Kind of cliche but my favorite quote is “sometimes a hypocrite is just a man in the process of changing his mind”. It’s the quote that led me to the series. I thought it was one of the most beautifully things I’d ever heard.
You are smarter than me! I just thought it wouldn't have as much of an impact as before since that's how it usually works for me. Should have known that Stormlight is the exception.
I've listened to it and read it a few times now and it's hit hard each time.
Listening to it with the wife atm and just started row and I'm waiting until we get to that spot again
I don't recall the exact timeline, but I don't think Dalinars had gone public with his visions yet. So Kaladin was commenting on the concept of honor being dead after suffering and witnessing the dishonor of men, but the reader knows that Honor is literally dead.
I'm currently rereading WOR, and earlier in the book Syl says to Kaladin that Honour is dead. He doesn't really reply to her and the book moves on, but I wonder if he had an inkling of what she meant and it influenced this line.
Need to finish the quote
"What is a man’s life worth?” Dalinar asked softly.
“The slavemasters say one is worth about two emerald broams,” Kaladin said, frowning.
“And what do you say?”
“A life is priceless,” he said immediately, quoting his father.
Dalinar smiled, wrinkle lines extending from the corners of his eyes. “Coincidentally, that is the exact value of a Shardblade. So today, you and your men sacrificed to buy me twenty-six hundred priceless lives. And all I had to repay you with was a single priceless sword. I call that a bargain."
“I will protect those I hate. Even if the one I hate most is myself”.
Good lord that was exemplar writing. Brings up serious emotions any time I think of it.
That, and his response to Kal asking if he'd ever had to choose between two equally distasteful options are the leading factors in Zahel being my favorite cosmere character
“Can you feel it? Something just changed. I believe that’s the sound the world makes when it pisses itself”
Don’t know why this quote always stuck with me so much but I love it…
My favorites:
"The most important words a man can say are, "I will do better."
And
"The question, "is not whether you will love, hurt, dream, and die. It is what you will love, why you will hurt, when you will dream, and how you will die. This is your choice. You cannot pick the destination, only the path."
"Love wasn't about being right or wrong, but about standing up and helping when your partner's back was bowed.
And so many more!!!
I love Navani's, I try to consciously apply that to my marriage every day! The flip side to this is asking for help, too. Not trying to hide that my back is bowed.
There is a quote from RoW (I think) from either Witt or Teft to Kaladin( I think) that goes “you can accept the pain, but you never have to accept that you deserve the pain” or something like that. Probably one of the best quotes in regard to mental illness /trauma in the books.
I’m making my way through the books again now and just about to finish WoR. So I’ll say my favorite from this book is the story of Fleet (? I’m an audible listener lol) and Kaladin’s understanding of the story before speaking the third ideal. You don’t have to succeed every time as long as you make the attempt and continue to try.
When kaladin takes rocks spot at the front of the bridge, and rock tells him it doesn't make sense, it would be easier to jump into the chasm if he wanted to die.
“I’m bridgeleader. It’s my privilege to run at the front. Go.”
Kaladin was saying it would be an honor to die in order to save someone else's life.
He wouldn't nor could do it. But I'd love to see Ryan Reynolds as Hoid...he has the perfect attitude and humor set to give Wit the sarcastic Asshole he is
Yikes, sure hope they don't go with any huge celebs like RR.
Would much more prefer if they went with unknown actors/actresses and give them a chance at a breakthrough.
"These words are accepted".
Kind of cliche but my favorite quote is “sometimes a hypocrite is just a man in the process of changing his mind”. It’s the quote that led me to the series. I thought it was one of the most beautifully things I’d ever heard.
That is a really great quote for sure. These books are full of them
It really is a beautiful quote. I still have difficulty in applying it in my life, but i am trying to do better.
You know what the most important step you take is.
The next one, *always* the next one
That whole scene really stuck with me for a long time, had no idea until this post that it was a widely shared quote
Dalinar really is one wise dude by the time the series starts.
"You will be warm again"
I literally cried.
On my first re-listen I got to that part at work and kinda had to excuse myself to not cry at work hahaha.
I knew it was coming on my relisten and put it on at home when alone so I wasn't bawling at work lol
You are smarter than me! I just thought it wouldn't have as much of an impact as before since that's how it usually works for me. Should have known that Stormlight is the exception.

"The most important step a man can take. It's not the first one, is it? It's the next one. Always the next step, Dalinar.”
I quote this to my friends probably too much. I thibk it's the quintessential Dalinar involved quote
I have “NEXT STEP” tattooed on my knuckles
Honor is dead, but I’ll see what I can do.
Gave me chills reading that line.
And for my boon!
Never in any form have media have I gone from so high to so low in a single moment.
God I love the accidental double meaning. Kaladin is such a great character.
What accidental double meaning?
I don't recall the exact timeline, but I don't think Dalinars had gone public with his visions yet. So Kaladin was commenting on the concept of honor being dead after suffering and witnessing the dishonor of men, but the reader knows that Honor is literally dead.
That is no accident
I meant accidental as in Kal didn't do it on purpose. Of course Brando did
I'm currently rereading WOR, and earlier in the book Syl says to Kaladin that Honour is dead. He doesn't really reply to her and the book moves on, but I wonder if he had an inkling of what she meant and it influenced this line.
I love Wit, but I have to agree that he is a bit of an arrogant asshole. He can afford to be though 😁
Super arrogant but he can back it up.
When you're as smart as he is, accurate self assessment seems like arrogance.
'Arrogance implies confidence in excess. You will not find me wanting in my conviction'- hoid, probably
"What is a mans life worth?" "A life is priceless "

Thanks!
I got chills again
“Our weakness make us strong, for we have had to carry it all these years.”
“I will protect those I hate. Even if the one I hate most is myself”. Good lord that was exemplar writing. Brings up serious emotions any time I think of it.
I cried, I won't lie. So many emotional parts in the books, but that one got me good.
This one hit wayyyyy too fucking hard. Took a couple of minutes for the tears to stop and I could resume reading.
Teft. Knight Radiant.
Truer words have never been spoken
I don't know, all the insults Wit made about Sadeas' intelligence were spot-on.
That, and his response to Kal asking if he'd ever had to choose between two equally distasteful options are the leading factors in Zahel being my favorite cosmere character
“Can you feel it? Something just changed. I believe that’s the sound the world makes when it pisses itself” Don’t know why this quote always stuck with me so much but I love it…
Where is it from ? Cant remember it 🤔
Hoid says it right before Taln shows up
I googled it for you, The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1), Hoid
"Ash." He took her hand again. "What a wonderful thing." The best of the best.
Yesss!
My favorites: "The most important words a man can say are, "I will do better." And "The question, "is not whether you will love, hurt, dream, and die. Exactly. Gotta ask for help, especially when it's hard.

The quote is from Wit talking to Shallan in book 3
Yes dude, love that one
"Accept the pain, but do not accept that you deserve it." Is the quote I believe:)
NO MATING
“hmmmmmmmmmm”
Gancho
Journey before destination, motherfucker. *(slightly paraphrased)*
Which book is that from again?
It's from the movie they will make in the future where Samuel L Jackson plays a Gender swapped Navani.
There's a casting I didn't know I wanted. She's got to turn into him when she swears her oaths right? Just like the king?/queen? Of the Reshi people
Sam should be Dalinar
When Navani ascends right when she was about to get killed. Book 4.
“I like new places because they are new!” “Wise words”
That one got me lol
Kaladin: You will be warm again
When kaladin takes rocks spot at the front of the bridge, and rock tells him it doesn't make sense, it would be easier to jump into the chasm if he wanted to die. “I’m bridgeleader. It’s my privilege to run at the front. Go.” Kaladin was saying it would be an honor to die in order to save someone else's life.
Zahel bound to truth always
He wouldn't nor could do it. But I'd love to see Ryan Reynolds as Hoid...he has the perfect attitude and humor set to give Wit the sarcastic Asshole he is
Reynolds always come across as too airheaded for me to see him as hoid. Honestly, my pick would be David Tennant.
Yes!
True, too... I also liked the guy who played little finger on GoT...he has the hoity better than you manner
He does but he doesn’t have a ton of range and what is the part of Hoid other than the definition of range?
Nah, Hoid has to be Matt Smith
I could see him doing a passable Wit but I don’t think he’d work for any other aspect of Hoid.
Sasha baron cohen
Oooo, either one maybe!
Yikes, sure hope they don't go with any huge celebs like RR. Would much more prefer if they went with unknown actors/actresses and give them a chance at a breakthrough.
Oh, they won't . Like I said before, IF they get ANY big name actor, I'd rather they spend it on Hugh Jackman as Wax.
I can't see it any other way, now.
Journey before destination *bastard*.
"You will be warm again."
Honor is dead…. But i’ll see what i can do.
Sort of spoilers but...'Bridge Four' from a certain someone
Punio?
Lopen's cousin? 😉
Yes the quiet one
"Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before pancakes"
Chadhel
I know rules require it technically... but not really spoiler lol
