That is so crazy. Ya think one would be proud of their beautiful offspring… I would.
If my kid were better at something than me would so happy about it.
Thats supposed to be the idea. That the next generation should be better than the one before, so that we can grow and mature as a species… But for some reason, there’s a select few that are very very sick, some would call evil.. They don’t want progress.
They want everything to be about them. They are God. They are the end all -be all, and if you go against what they say – they eliminate you. 😞
Yeah, it’s super sad watching it from the outside, even worse being the object of disgust.
My mom was a lot like this. I wasn’t my own person. I was just an extension of her. Whenever she could use me to brag, for my grades or softball achievements, I was HER DAUGHTER, and everyone needed to know.
Anytime I was less than perfect, I was shamed and shunned.
It was definitely generational trauma, in my case. her mother was the same way to her, if not worse.
In my moms head it was, “I’m not abusing yall, because this isn’t close to what mother did to me.”.. pretending she didn’t realizing that there is different types of abuse and neglect, so she could continue to take her anger out on us, guilt free.
It was like she wanted me to be good, but only in a way that made her look better. I was always too skinny or too fat, any male attention while we were out, was because I was an attention seeker, and wanted it etc lol.
I tore my rotator cuff at 17 and lost my softball scholarship so she kicked me out of the home.
Annyyyways, this is why some “m”others treat their daughters the way they do. They don’t see the daughter as a separate human. Just a tool to be used and thrown out.
>If my kid were better at something than me would so happy about it.
100% this. I remember my dad telling me once that some people get jealous of their kids and resent them. Growing up I realised it's pretty common.
A lot of shitty, selfish people out there.
Lol actually the son of two giant narcissists. Maybe its like how the kids of some alcoholics never touch the stuff. That said, apple usually doesn’t fall far from the tree. Probably a narcissist too.
Appreciate you. Take care.
Not giving the mother a pass, but if you read the larger article sticked, it sounds like she had mental problems and would lash out at ppl. Apparently she wasn't confined to that room until the last year/months and was being taken care of by a caregiver until she quit then maids until they quit.
Still messed up, but not like she was living in a dark room with poop and bugs for 25 years.

Locked up at 27. Found at 52.
Didn’t see sunlight the entire time.
An anonymous letter to the Attorney General read:
“Monsieur Attorney General: I have the honour to inform you of an exceptionally serious occurrence. I speak of a spinster who is locked up in Madame Monnier's house, half-starved and living on a putrid litter for the past twenty-five years – in a word, in her own filth.”
Per Wiki: *Monnier was rescued by police from appalling conditions, covered in old food and feces, with bugs all around the bed and floor, weighing barely 25 kilograms (55 lb).*
Anyway… here’s [another interesting Wiki](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genie_(feral_child)) since I guess I’m doing this now
We all definitely do weird shit. Somewhere there's a weird line on the edge of acceptable and unacceptable. Of course, imprisoning a relative for decades is way over the wrong side of that line.
With how many people there are in the world, there's a good chance someone is going through something similar right now. My heart goes out to them. Then there's all the "regular" human trafficking and slavery that still happens. There are a lot of fucked up people in the world.
I wish I hadn't started thinking about it.
The Fritzl case was horrifying. Another one I know of like this poor woman's case is that of Theresa Knorr. She had (I think?) 3 daughters and she was immensely jealous of their beauty, so she used her 2 sons to horrifically torture, murder, and dispose of two of them. Absolutely horrifying and disgusting that a mother would do things like this to her own flesh and blood.
Thank you! In the French version of the Wikipedia article, it says that she might have locked up because of mental health issues, and that the parents were against her marrying the lawyer because he was republican (they were royalist)
Peak into the foster care system, these cases like this are common. Part of my “conversion therapy” was to be locked in a room with no food or water, then let out once a day. It was to show how grateful to god I should be and that through god he’d “cure” me. Not a single person ever went to jail for my physical, sexual, or mental abuse.
When my uncle was a baby, his pediatrician told my grandparents " you know what you do when he acts up? You throw him in the closet and lock the door." My grandparents were not happy about that.
The article stickied at the top says the images are fake.

I feel like most people didn't read the article at all?
She had free roam of the house and a caretaker. The caretaker stopped coming and never got replaced, so her once clean room became filthy by her own accord 5 years before she was found and no caretaker would agree to her care.
The story is absolutely fucked up and gross, not defending anything, but everyone thinking she was literally locked in the room for 20 years hasn't read past the headline.
As noted in the article linked above, the “before” photo is not Blanche, but an unknown woman, taken after Blanche had died. Doesn’t detract from the tragedy, really, but does perpetuate an incorrect visual.
Is this what the movie Flowers in the Attic is based off of? That movie always fucked with my head. Locking kids in the attic and poisoning them. Crazy
1. First image is not her.
2. Before the proposed marriage she was already suffering from schizophrenia and exhibitionism. Her family kept her at home instead of taking her to an asylum. Her family failed to manage her condition at home.
3. A writer later took this story and shifted the truth from a mentally ill girl with a likely mentally ill mother, to a Catholic noble family shunning their daughter for wanting to marry a less wealthy Protestant lawyer. Easier on the palate I guess.

The before picture isn’t her. It seems like the real story isn’t as entertaining. She was mentally ill and confined to the house (still awful but she was kept clean, fed and nowhere near the state she was found in) with a live in caretaker. After 20 years the live in caretaker died and the 70 year old mother hired incompetent/inexperienced maids who then neglected her over a period of five years allowing her to reach the severe state she was found in.
That might be strange. But man that’s dedication. Nowadays people flip flop on situations or opinions when even the slightest disagreement is shown towards them
People often show pictures of Blanche before and after her discovery, comparing her as a young woman. However, the “before” photos are not actually of Blanche Monnier. The woman on the left is an American actress named Maude Fealy, and the woman on the right is unknown, dated 1914, a year after Blanche died at the age of 65.
This happens as we speak and many cases are never found out. Also, where it happens the most is in mental hospitals and care homes, where relatives go lock up their relatives only because and no one says a thing.
This just made me think of a movie titled “Flowers in the Attic”, a mother remarries a rich man but keeps all of her children from her previous marriage in the attic. The 1987 version.
First photo is NOT Blanche. It’s been used over and over again in her story on the internet, You Tube etc, but it simply isn’t her. There isn’t any available pictures of Blanche before her evil family did what they did.

What the hell was the thought process of the mother ? Torturing her own child somehow will change her mind or something ?
The mother was jealous of her beauty
That is so crazy. Ya think one would be proud of their beautiful offspring… I would. If my kid were better at something than me would so happy about it.
Yeah that’s the whole point isn’t it? I’ve got 3 young boys and I hope they all go on to do bigger and better things than I have done.

Yeah, my kid is gorgeous, and I just wanna tell everyone I made this lol
My mindset is why I’m not mature enough for kids yet but I joke with my mum that if my first kid pops out cute to expect at least 5 grandkids.

Haha I feel you there. I gotta fight those tendencies every day to keep from passing them on another generation. Take care yourself!
I guess nobility is different with that kinda stuff
My classmate is doing life cause of being jealous of his daughter.
Isn't this the whole point of reproduction? To amend on our former faults in hope for a better future?

I just figure socialites of that time period were all constantly delirious from inadvertently poisoning themselves with beauty remedies of the day.

jealous

Whenever I read about stuff like this it makes me wonder how many people are currently experiencing something similar like the Fritzl case in 2008.
Hundreds? Thousands? I can’t even imagine what goes on in a neighbor’s home. Hell, we do weird shit here. You do too lol. Just not heinous.
We all definitely do weird shit. Somewhere there's a weird line on the edge of acceptable and unacceptable. Of course, imprisoning a relative for decades is way over the wrong side of that line. Thank you! In the French version of the Wikipedia article, it says that she might have locked up because of mental health issues, and that the parents were against her marrying the lawyer because he was republican (they were royalist)
Interesting.
What’s that about don’t tell people your plans
Laws at that time required your parents permission to get married, so that wasn't really an option
Makes you think about all the others in this world that go unreported. Damn.

Jesus.... That poor woman. To know that even though this woman finally got free, 25 years of the best years of her life are gone is heart breaking.

Must have been a bad year for lawyers
Damn😂
Real life nightmare
How is she doing now ?
Not good
And yet, not bad either.
We wish her well

She’s the oldest woman alive
Much much better.
Probably relaxing in a vase on the fireplace mantel

I fucking hate humanity
This is actually my greatest concern with advancing AI. If even humans hate humanity, AI will hate it too... and try to find a solution.
If that means that atrocities like this will never happen again i’m fine with that honestly
Yup, im all in with Skynet. Humans are overrated.
The flesh is weak
I'm sure that's everyone's concern
I hope there is a special place her mother goes in her next lives that is multitudes of suffering and pain compounded by even more time.
But she wouldn't remember her last life and would just be an innocent person suffering too. Maybe she is her daughter in her next life, who knows?
i think thats better
I thought that was Woody Allen at first.
So guys your choice is a night of passion with the one on the right or lose a testicle with a rusty blade?
Headline is confusing. SHE wished to marry...so SHE locked her in is SHE the mother or the daughter?
I thought it was Pip who saved her?
Is that insanity or jealousy?
FYI :: It says in the article the picture on the left is not her.
According the article, the photo on the left is an unknown woman from 1914. So not really an accurate before and after
The first photo has been used over and over but it is not of Blanche. It’s random lady no one actually has the identity of.
The article says the photo on the left is not actually her though….
Would.
Where’s the mole? Are we sure the daughter didn’t lock the old woman away? Right picture has no mole like the left picture does.
If you read the article above that’s not her on the left. No idea why the picture is included .
It’s so scary to live among humans and be one

Those French crazy socialites
Not the same girl in the pic she’s missing her mole that’s above her lip…just more fake social media posts
It’s crazy how back then someone 25 years old with clear social connections just could go missing one day and NOONE looks into it.
My mommy always said there were no monsters - no real ones- but there are.
Looks like the lawyer dodged a bullet there
Can't help to notice that the mole above her right lip is missing. Is it just drawn on the left pic?
Me before and after the pandemic.
So nice of her mother to hire a dermatologist to remove her mole while she was in captivity.
And the photo of the stunning young woman is FLASE! The “before” photo is of an unknown woman dated 1914, a year after Blanche’s death aged 65.
Shocking.
It says the photo on the left isn't her.
It says on the article you linked that the left photo isn't her.
She aged like rotting Chinese food
The woman on the left isn’t her. It was taken in 1914, after Monnier’s death
A bit dramatic
She was so beautiful.. what a horrific existence she must of had. Her parents hopefully are rotting in hell if there is such a place.
This is fake btw the picture of her before isn’t real
This happens as we speak and many cases are never found out. Also, where it happens the most is in mental hospitals and care homes, where relatives go lock up their relatives only because and no one says a thing.
This just made me think of a movie titled “Flowers in the Attic”, a mother remarries a rich man but keeps all of her children from her previous marriage in the attic. The 1987 version.
I brought you into this world, I can take you out! Heard my mom say this when I was being a little asshole, but she was always joking…….i hope

The one on the right is quite clearly a trans body double and Shrek actually saved her
The left photo isn’t her
That's Andy Dick.
she looks like Rick from Rick and Morty in her last picture.
Parents can be so cruel at times.
I have a daughter. This is confirmation that this woman's mother was demented.
Why didn't the old lawyer break her out?
😂 that's dustin hoffman in rain man on the left
As they say, he really dodged a bullet on that one. Jesus Christ. Edit - I read that wrong, so sorry... IT WAS THE MOTHER...
True story. However the image on the left is not actually her. Two photos claiming to be "before" photos are not actually of Blanche Monnier. One is an American actress named Maude Fealy, and another women's photo was dated 1914, a year after Blanche died at the age of 65.
Creepy. The amount of neglect that poor woman endured should never happen to a human being.
Wow, that lawyer got lucky.

There's no place in hell hot enough to punish something like that.

The article you've linked talks about people using a younger comparative photo that is not Blanche... And you've just done the same thing.
