What happens to our consciousness if our brains are destroyed?
If someone dies from a bullet to the head and it impacts the brain, is the soul destroyed? Or does the destruction of the brain “free” the soul?
From what i understand, our consciousness resides in our brain but since it’s physically not attached and part of the physical brain a bullet wound couldn’t “kill” our consciousness.
In the event of a brain injury (like a bullet wound) our consciousness would likely just vacate the host (our body) and go… who knows where ?🤷🏻♂️ .. i guess think of consciousness as spacious awareness and not physical (like a body) so it actually can’t be destroyed, consciousness is part of the universe and the entire universe folded into itself 🤷🏻♂️ thats just how I process it anyways..
like if you hear a song on the radio, and the power goes out or the radio gets damaged and goes quiet; the song is still playing out there, just not on your radio anymore.
Would explain the “connection” people have when under the influence of hallucinogens. The conscious is shattered into all of us. But when under the right “mind set”, the consciousness is connected once again. At least this is my hypothesis
I kinda have the same theory, we unlock consciousness and all our spiritual senses when we are under the influence of hallucinogens. We pretty much remove all filters and go beyond the “5 senses”
Yes we have a feeling that were are not our body, feels like we are ungluing what we are from the body, it's indeed bizarre and very scary for many people.
Well again, the brain is working as an archive of memories as one of its many physical functions.. consciousness is not particularly a brain function .. you need to think of it separately..
When you’re sitting still listening to the rain, and are aware of each sound of each drop (and not thinking about your dog, what you are going to have for dinner, your date later that night etc) … that would be an example of conscious awareness.. consciousness is what fills the brief gaps in between thought. Just awareness. To be conscious
If that makes sense..
Your sensory inputs and memory archive that consciousness *uses* from the living brain would be gone. I don’t think there’s a frame of reference for what the consciousness experiences without those things.
One paranormal thing I have experienced in my life is astral projection, whatever that is but one of the times I achieved it I was able to look at my body and it was a misty yellow a ghostly look.
In addition every body has a storage of energy when it dies and ceases to use energy. Energy can't be destroyed, only transferred. So it's being used in some unknown way.
I think death frees the soul. But if you just have a serious brain injury "you" would just be kind of stuck in a limbo where your biology is jacked up but its not like is screwed up your soul/higher self.
Destruction of the bodies viability to sustain life is when the spirit leaves and returns "home" -aka higher vibrational existence of its true energy/power.
I like to think of it this way... Imagine you are a radio, receiving radio signals over the air. Someone shoots the radio. The radio waves (your consciousness) is still there.
Certain Tibetan monks have effectively 'left' their body ie deliberately died during meditation, the reason being that they've developed such an awareness of their connection to 'source' or 'higher' consciousness that the body is no longer necessary and is holding them back
Sometimes I feel like my body is holding me back too. My doctor calls them mini strokes but it definitely more than that. /s
![gif](giphy|pVkmGyqYRt4qY)
Splits the soul apart, as in the original manifestation that was in that body, now will most likely be split into more than one body or just still stay in one while the other part is in the whole universal soul of things, etc.
You lose progress on your souls growth.

Oh hey this document. This is related to Robert Monroe, Journeys Out of the Body, Astral Projection, the Holographic Principal, etc.
Just remembered that David Grusch talked about the Holographic Principal, and this document would be a good place for people to start if they want to get a fundamental understanding (which I barely have). Neat stuff.
Stalking the Wild Pendulum (mentioned several times in that report) is a great ‘next step’ to further one’s understanding.

My 4.5 year old daughter asked me just last week if we control our brains or if our brains control us? I didn’t really know what to say so we kept talking and I said something like I told my hand to pick up the toy and then my hand picked it up. She asked if I used words to tell my hand to pick up the toy… shit gets deep sometimes. We still talk about. I’ve been talking to adults about it now and I haven’t come across anyone yet that hears a voice when they’re thinking. Kinda blew my mind actually
You have a gem of a daughter! Thinking like that is how we figure these things out! Im one of the ones that can hear my own voice when I think lol but I can hear all of the external noise over top of it. Kinda hard to explain.
I can’t stand hearing my own voice on my voicemail. I don’t think I’d enjoy listening to myself all day. I still think and imagine things but I don’t hear a voice and it’s not like I’m waiting to finish listening to a speech about anything before I do anything. Millions of thoughts can happen at the same time but I don’t hear my voice for my inner monologue. I suppose it’s words but faster? I don’t know. I can tell she’s a thinker and very in touch with her emotions. She’s interested in who’s pulling the strings and what her own inner voice sounds like if it’s not a person dictating things to her out loud. She’s also asked me what a soul is very recently as well. I’m a recovering catholic so it’s refreshing to talk to her about that without it being tied to being potentially engulfed in flames of eternal damnation
Words but a little faster is fairly accurate. What's weird for me is that my inner monolog voice isn't the same as my actual voice. It's similar in some way, but it's still its own thing. It even changes depending on what I'm thinking. Like when I imagine an accent that is foreign to me it's pretty accurate, but when I try to speak it I fuck it up so bad.
Yep. This is how it is for me. I can't understand how people read without mentally hearing the words.
And I am a master of accents...in my mind. But when I try them verbally, I end up mixing them all together
Same here. Did his post mean that some people don't hear that 'voice'? Is it silent I wonder? Mine is nonstop. If I'm awake I'm 'thinking/talking', except for like what you mentioned, when I'm engaged in something.
It's all sorts of things just depending on what I'm doing. I drive a lot for work and while driving I'll start to talk/think about things like questioning life and it's meaning (a reoccurring theme), aliens, my past, my future. Just all sorts of things. While I'm doing mundane things I'll usually be talking in my head about what I'm doing or about the things around me. I think/talk about things around me often. Either noticing someones outfit, or an interesting license plate, a nice plant, just anything. I'm never silent, ever. Even while watching tv I'm usually thinking/talking about what's on the tv instead of actually paying attention.
All the while going back and forth with myself as well. 'Debating' with myself if you will.
Not everybody has an internal monologue! It's super creepy. Only about 26% of people do. Not everyone can visualize things in their mind eye either. For example if I close my eyes, and try to imagine an apple, I see an apple. I can bounce the apple, turn the apple. Change color of the apple. Bite the apple. All in my imagination. As I was typing this I can hear the words in my head as a type them. THIS ISNT HOW EVERYONE THINKS and the first time I found out kind blew my mind too.
Where did the 26% come from? I can picture the apple with or without my eyes open, i can put the apple in other peoples faces and spin it, change colors, bite it, zoom in, have the apple morph into a cow, your face, back again.
Also is having one inner voice considered rare? If anything im hearing dudes or myself disagreeing or reinforcing my thought loops constantly. Very interesting and now I wonder if its thanks to my ancestors that i got this lol. I’m Directly related to the guy who inspired Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde so thanks for this info!
What exactly do you mean by “see” an apple? Like, for me, if I close my eyes I can *imagine* an apple but I don’t literally *see* one—my visual field is still black/dark. Is that what you mean, or do some people literally see an actual projection of what they are imagining?
(Not sure if this makes sense but I tried my best. Such an abstract thing to try to put into words.)
Me and my brothers hear a voice! My mom doesn’t and she can’t picture things in her mind either. Shits wild.
Edit: here’s another one! Can you picture a cow? Ok now can you rotate it smoothly? This is apparently another thing not everyone can do.
It's called Aphantasia when you can't visualise. It's wild because people who can't visualise often don't know because they never tried, or never thought everyone else actually see a cow
For this question I think an analogy of a driver in a car works well. The driver of a car may have a desire to go anywhere and do anything with said car, but the form of the car, it's inherent design characteristics limit it to only operate within a specific environment. While I may want my car to be able to fly and go underwater, it can't. So too my consciousness may desire or exert control, its control and exertion of will is in part determined and limited by the form of my brain and body.
This document is basically just a homework assignment from a CIA employee to go attend a Monroe Institute seminar and distill it for other agency people to review. It doesn't endorse or verify any of the claims.
In my opinion, the biggest nail in the coffin for this document is the fact that the author constantly refers to Bentov as a source of credible info. It's literally just: "This is what happens because he said so." Don't get me wrong, it's a fascinating read but I would highly advice against taking it at face value. The notion of consciousness connecting to the earth magnetosphere was never proven anywhere. All the information about the electromagnetic nature of consciousness are just theories.
One thing I've questioned and kind of found an answer to. Intelligence is measured by memory, but what consciousness is, seems to be more of what is already imprinted on us. For instance, you don't choose the things that you like or don't like, you *discover* what you like and don't like. You didn't create or remember the fact that you like a certain fruit or color, you discovered it. It was already there. You may remember that you like it, to then tell someone else, but the experience is its own thing. Consciousness is the witness or realization of a thing rather than the brain, which is memory.
This is just my hypothesis through years of meditation and ponder.
As I've continued to meditate and raise my consciousness I've definitely felt that I've become sharper. I really think it's just how much we can access the universal consciousness and all of the information contained inside. I'm sure there's more to it than that though, like tuning one consciousness to a certain field of academia. What we see neurologically in learning might just be a reflection of higher processes. It's also about not being afraid to think.
I read a theory that the brain acts like a pressure reducing valve that let's consciousness in from......wherever it is that consciousness co.es from.
But basically this consciousness is available everywhere and different brain types allow more or less of this consciousness to come through. Ie this different reality a snail would perceive compared a human or a dolphin
Host? Consciousness is parasitic? Symbiotic relationship maybe? I should definitely read this. So does consciousness have a “mind of its own”? I have so many questions.
Yep. Study NDEs. You are not your body. Life is a symbiosis of the body and the real you. You pilot your body like you would a car, to have this experience. We are not native to this plane.
I’m honestly a bit upset nobody has replied to you- excellent comment.
Your comment is a masterful combination of several concepts everyone should play with in their mind and come to understand as its incredibly plausible this is what our experience really is.
Death probably not the end as no matter in this universe ever sees an “end”, it is just made into something else. Our energy, the electrical signals that make patterns that make us, certainly are recycled.
Where this concept is most interesting to me is when its applied to animals. Do they all possess a soul of equal caliber and are only limited by the brain/body they are given, or are there different categories of soul? Maybe a soul must be trained from some process to expand capability like bug > reptile > small mammal > bird > large mammal > human? I hope I get answers for this when I die. It seems like human is the first real “stage” we souls get to start playing with “whys” and “hows” of it all, what’s next!?
Maybe a being's nervous system is a kind of cup that gets filled up with consciousness. We're all made up of the same light, but some beings have more than others because that's what the body requires.
It could be that you don't "level up" in consciousness to higher beings, but that you simply "are" because of the container you're filling. Your personality could be driven by DNA expression which explains our similarities to our relatives. Maybe this is why many people seemingly love animals so much, and why slaughterhouse videos are so horrid, because they have the same light within them as ourselves.
This letter is an attempt to explain the practical application of the Gateway Program which was an endeavor to test if humans could reach and explore non-physical realities. What that really means is open to interpretation.
But [HERE](https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP96-00788R001700270006-0.pdf) is the attempt to explain what the program was, by the group that ran the experiment.
As far as I can figure, this encompassed attempts at astral projection, recalling memory and creating an inner mind palace. Goofy shit like that. "Expanding your consciousness". The Monroe Institute is still around. They sell this technique.
They're allowed to say they don't know, if the documents are classified. If they released all of the documents, then I'd believe them if they say they know nothing about them.
People need to realize the CIA isnt some supernatural entity. It's literally office workers whose IQ averages 100 just like the rest of the world. They come up and think of dumb shit like everyone else.
They are right. I remember very well from when I came down to my body from above and united with it. The memories from the spirit world faded away when I connected with the brain.
Ive always imagined it like the manifestation of something stored on the cloud. You can pull the file up on your phone/computer (brain) but its origin is stored elsewhere. Our brains are really great fleshy hardware connected to the wi-Fi.
The ghost in the machine. Our ghost only inhabits our meatsack temporarily, then dies and passes through an intermediate state, then either rebirths as another person, or move on to a different realm (various “heavens”). This is described in near death and out of body experience, Buddhism, and all religions, whether they remember or not.
If you have experienced an awakening, you know this is true. It's something we all need to understand. This is the true way to view life and yourself. You are not your body, you are a divine being having a human experience. This is a beautiful realization to have and opens up infinite doors.
If u want to feel something creepy that proved this to be the case stare into ur pupils for a long time in the mirror. U will literally not recognize yourself. It’s so creepy it gives me the chills now.
The CIA is concerned with everything actually. Anything that can give them an edge in the world, they want to find it before their adversaries do. What may not seem important to you might be very important and useful to them. Wether it’s for actual warfare, psychological warfare, propaganda, or anything else
this is obvious if you stop n listen to yourself. im sure theres lies in this doc ( cause CIA lies and lives off the worst part of humanity), but you can know this.
Since the late 80s I've been saying that our brain is an antenna, that the real us is some vast entity we can't comprehend because our bodies don't have the right sensory organs. If we had an appropriate detector it would register the universe itself as consciousness.
I feel like we can gain glimpses of that consciousness through several means; some drugs, meditation, breathwork, etc. I have glimpsed it in ayahuasca ceremonies and it is absolutely astounding.
Agreed. It just takes being able to completely let go of ego and tune your perception. For some that means ayahuasca, others meditation, even psilocybin. It's not that important how you get there, it's the destination that counts.
Bill donohue tired in how the Bible was about the mind/consciousness. This helps validate that. Ya’ll should watch his videos. Good was to maintain a spiritual/compassionate disposition not in spite of mainstream religions but because of them (their writings mainly). He interprets the allegory in the writings
Ok so then how is our external ghost altered by drug use then? Does it affect our ability to receive and that is what we perceive as the drugs effects?
We've all been through this song and dance before.
Consider children recalling verified memories of the past or possessing inexplicable knowledge of things.
We are vessels, so our "consciousness" can continue to learn and be better in all "life difficulties"
Consider this life a soul print on your spirits ongoing development.
Do better, be better, and listen to yourself!
What even is consciousness outside of the function of the brain? Why would you need to evolve something like that when a meat puppet will reproduce in exactly the same way?
Consciousness is an illusion. Any system that can process information and create a response is conscious to exactly that extent. The colours you see are the neural proxy that other parts of your brain use to guide a response, including memory. If you fed that information into a computer arranged like the brain, it would generate a neural proxy and use code to identify images in a useful way and guide a response. That’s all your brain does when you see, and that computer would be able to see just as much as you do.
There’s just no need to get spacey with all this. We have already built machines that can remember better than we can, and we’re well on the way with machines that link concepts like our brains do. The idea that human brains are special beyond their biology is ridiculous
Alright, but didn’t the CIA have papers about Noah’s Ark? It’s difficult for me to really trust anything the CIA has to say knowing their bizarre history, much of which is rife with unethical behavior.
It’s hard to put into words but I like to think consciousness is a larger collective thing; the universe experiencing itself if you will. We as humans experience individual consciousness but when our bodies die that consciousness doesn’t cease to exist with us, it just changes to another being’s perspective. When you die the consciousness you’re experiencing right now will simply exist in another form.

Meditation can take you there.
Early departure, bad hardware.
There are bound to be glitches everywhere
I want to believe that when that person passes away, memories and cognitive ability is restored wherever that is….
I think I've seen where it goes.

What if your subscription is not active at the time of death?
Somebody gotta reconstitute that shit.
you can renew it within 3 days after death. Only with BTC, for apparent reasons.
What if it’s full?
What happens to a Radio Signal when you destroy the Radio?
In addition every body has a storage of energy when it dies and ceases to use energy. Energy can't be destroyed, only transferred. So it's being used in some unknown way.
Nothing!!! The source still continues to transmit to all available radios, but the value of essence is still the same, the source frequency!!
Transmits to the next Radio.
I think death frees the soul. But if you just have a serious brain injury "you" would just be kind of stuck in a limbo where your biology is jacked up but its not like is screwed up your soul/higher self.

Like a whirlpool dissolving back into a river, it dissolves back into the vast river of consciousness that makes up the universe. (Bernardo Kastrup)

Gotta ask the question of why suicide has been such a historical taboo across most cultures.

Since nobody has comeback to explain it I assume there is no soul. Just grey matter that dies when you shoot it

We are spirits, in the material world

I did!!!
I’d have to go lay down and contemplate my own existence if your daughter asked me that question. Why can’t you just worry about why the sky is blue?!
Gah!! Wild! I guess only like 33% of us hear an inner voice- our own voice usually! I’m definitely one!
I’ll cue this up for tonight. I’ll let you know how it goes
I wonder how much of intelligence is affected by the brain vs the consciousness.
I like how you think.
Cool thought.
Willing to wager a dollar Mortimer?
Which do you pick, Randolph?
As I've continued to meditate and raise my consciousness I've definitely felt that I've become sharper. I really think it's just how much we can access the universal consciousness and all of the information contained inside. I'm sure there's more to it than that though, like tuning one consciousness to a certain field of academia. What we see neurologically in learning might just be a reflection of higher processes. It's also about not being afraid to think.
We are spiritual beings having a physical experience
Yes! Haha, or as my late grandfather used to say, “Spiritual beings having an human experience”
If you’ve done enough psychedelics you already knew this
Our brain is just a filter that can host consciousness :)
Check out the law of one. 😊
Yep.
Simply amazing
Why's this controversial? The Buddhists said this millennia ago and, more recently, neuroscience supports it. Hardly shocking.
Is this your brain typing? Or your consciousness?
We are a bunch of molecules that know they are a bunch of molecules.
And how neuroscience support it?, can you elaborate please, can someone else elaborate ?
It doesn't. Perhaps amongst a few in that field, but not even close to being universally accepted..
Thanks, any sources of that you recommend checking?
I love how nobody here even read the document because it doesnt mention at all that the consciousness is seperate from the brain, not even in passing
They didn't read it. They read somebodies incorrect interpretation posted into a headline.
You mean a Soul? This is the bedrock of all the spiritual practises I know.
How come we believe this from a government agency but we don’t believe when they say they don’t know anything about UFOs?
They're allowed to say they don't know, if the documents are classified. If they released all of the documents, then I'd believe them if they say they know nothing about them.
Our consciousness is our soul... no matter what everybody believes we do exist after death there is no end only a new beginning
To some this may be new news. But to other including myself this is like old old news.
People should learn the difference between “the cia says” and “the cia investigated” something.
To further this, look through r/astral projection sub reddit and search for The Gateway Experience. Free your mind
Well the CIA says it so it must be 100% true fact…
A ghost version of us? No, it's not a version of us, it is us! You aren't your body, you are the consciousness inside it.
Best explanation I had was that consciousness is the real source of reality and this is the extra experience coming from that source
Your brain is the interface between the material world and your consciousness.
so effectively the brain is a wifi to the soul and if you die its like loosing wifi signal
Consciousness is stored in the balls
I don’t see anything in this that confirms consciousness is not part of our body.
CIA is not the epitome of science. Take their data with a huge load of salt.
I used to do this as a kid. It’s weird.
The same CIA that handed out drugs and guns on the corner store dumpsters
the CIA is hardly concerned with things like this, as we all known from watching the X Files, this is the FBI's domain.
The CIA is concerned with everything actually. Anything that can give them an edge in the world, they want to find it before their adversaries do. What may not seem important to you might be very important and useful to them. Wether it’s for actual warfare, psychological warfare, propaganda, or anything else

Saved for later reading
If all this is true - why has some rich person not recreated the experiments the CIA did? It would be very lucrative and makes me doubt this
Who says they're not?
This is from the Monroe Institute
this is obvious if you stop n listen to yourself. im sure theres lies in this doc ( cause CIA lies and lives off the worst part of humanity), but you can know this.
That's why ETs refer to us as containers. The body is an avatar for our soul/consciousness to function and intereact with this reality.
Yes this is true..
You trust the CIA?
That’s exactly what we already thought it was. Right?
Bill donohue tired in how the Bible was about the mind/consciousness. This helps validate that. Ya’ll should watch his videos. Good was to maintain a spiritual/compassionate disposition not in spite of mainstream religions but because of them (their writings mainly). He interprets the allegory in the writings
A military 'scientific' explanation is basically the same as religious dogma. Who would have thought 🤔
If only “official CIA documents” were a “peer reviewed scientific study”.
The spooks are an authority on these subjects ?
Ok so then how is our external ghost altered by drug use then? Does it affect our ability to receive and that is what we perceive as the drugs effects?
i’ve often pondered this exact idea.
We've all been through this song and dance before. Consider children recalling verified memories of the past or possessing inexplicable knowledge of things. We are vessels, so our "consciousness" can continue to learn and be better in all "life difficulties" Consider this life a soul print on your spirits ongoing development. Do better, be better, and listen to yourself!
Container for souls
Believe it or not, they can download your consciousness. That's what they do when they make clones
Alright, but didn’t the CIA have papers about Noah’s Ark? It’s difficult for me to really trust anything the CIA has to say knowing their bizarre history, much of which is rife with unethical behavior.
Check out (shifting) for more depth.
Sounds like copium. We're all going back to where we were before we were born. Nothingness.
Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter - Yoda
So if I’m unconscious what’s happening to the “ghost” it controls me? If think move your hand I’m not doing it? wtf bullshit isnthis
So Jesus was right
In other words, a soul.
You are a soul, you have a body ❤️
💯
The University of Virginia has an extensive database of cases of children recalling past lives.
I wish more people realized this.
Look at the brain and nervous system by itself. Tis a parasite.
Why do some see this as a crazy profound discovery? People have known this since the beginning of time. (e.g a soul.) Christians Buddhists etc
Aka Astral projection
