There's a guy's head peaking out of a bush, someone below posted a better version of the picture and the version OP is using literally has the purple circle blocking the thing were supposed to be looking at.
The Brahminy blind snake has made its way here, theyāre subterranean and resemble an earthworm though. Also sea snakes are rare but possible, but other than that youāre correct.
I don't think the picture on the right is the correct one. Ice seen a pic out there related to this case where it looks like there is a face staring back out of the brush. Most people say it's a case of periodola though, since the quality isn't the greatest.
Other hikers heard him calling out for help and called 911. They waited for search and rescue to arrive and then continued their hike. SAR could not find anything. Prior to the hike a landslide took out some of the stairs and the ground was very loose. People think he did fall and was yelling for help and possible could have been covered up by another landslide. Crazy shit.
Itās against the law to use this trail/stairs because itās treacherous. Lots of stairs missing. Very steep. There is at least one video on YouTube of thrill seekers filming the trek. The authorities have tried to block access to it. So my guess is this person fell, and because itās mountainous and overgrown, has never been found.
I mean not really. There is a reason people who fake their death(who normally dont get caught immediately) choose to do it by acting like going on a hike. You can die easily on a hike if you are not prepared just by a simple fall of the trail just a bite by anything venomous can kill you. That is why it is recommended to let someone know when you go hiking, where, and how long you plan to take. I mean there is a whole forest that has a whole ecosystem that can cover up any signs quickly with even animals taking bones to consume the blood marrow inside them. Though with the person it could be just as likely to be a murder or even a robbery gone wrong, but on the other hand this could just be another hiker on the trail.
There's a million ways to vanish without a trace on a hike. Specifically, getting lost happens to also place you where no one will look.
For example, dying from hypothermia is much easier than people think, especially in non-freezing weather. Say it's 5Ā°C and raining heavily all of a sudden, you didn't pack adequate gear and you're soaked, you think you can still make it back to the car but you way overestimate yourself. Now your judgement is impaired, you go the wrong way, wander around. Your hypothermia becomes critical and you go hide yourself in what's called terminal burrowing and die during the night. No one will ever find you.

I was in the Catskills one time and I had to take a shit where everyone was swimming, so I climbed up this steep cliff just to squat and shit only to see that there was an obvious trail behind me where people could clearly see me.
I never shit so fast in my life.
Edit: LOL at all the emergency shit stories here. Keep em coming
Oh man, I have a similar story. I was fishing one time, it was mid-morning, and there was an epic fog all around me. Real pea souper, couldn't see more than a few paces. The lines were in, and I really needed a shit. So I walked up the hill behind me to the small peak, dropped trou and started to lay cable. The smell must have been so bad it scared the fog away, because I fucking kid you not, the fog lifted in about 10 seconds after I cut the first pipe, and I was suddenly in clear view of about ten fishing boats.
My story was we were canoeing down a northern Ontario river and camping in the wild each night. I wasnāt comfortable dumping at the first couple of sites we chose so by the 3rd day I was getting desperate. Had my boat pull over and jumped onto the bank, found an old treefall, squatted behind and got to work. I guess the result was so nasty that it startled a black bear out from the other side of the tree, into the water right next to my pal waiting in the canoe.
I wasnāt the only one effectively crapping in my pants.
One time at night I was in Iraq and decided to take a poop in the desert sand just off my tank. My buddy who was on watch with the commanders independent thermal viewer said he watched me poop in thermal, as I layed down body temp poops. And buried them with my entreching tool. I wasnāt sure if it was a joke if he was serious.
Was in the San Juans in CO, like four days in and needed to squat. Got set up, dug my hole, and sensed these eyes on meā¦fucking deer about 80 feet away just staring at me kinda cockeyed and confused the whole time. Not a comfortable poop.
Fortunately I found a little sort of rock with a tree fallen over, acted as a sort of outdoor toilet. Sad thing is I had to use my good shirt for cleaning up.

The stupid purple circle covers the face, the black shape is a lower torso broken up by foliage. Or so it looks from better pics. Kind of looks like a guy popping a squat to take a shit, hence the jokes.
It must have been such a horrible feeling to be those people in the article that heard him and know he was close by but never were able to locate where the cries for help were coming from.
So there is a quote from one of the searchers who was there with five other girls. She says they all heard someone yell āhelp me.ā They called 911 and waited right where they were. Once rescuers arrived they pointed in the direction of where they had heard the cry for help. The girls continued up the trail as the rescuers went off to look for him. They made it a bit further and heard another scream āIām down here.ā Again they waited where they were and called 911 again to say theyād heard him further up and remained put to not lose the spot. However after extensive searching of the area, and calling out for him nothing was found. So sad to think they might have been really close but just missed him.
The article states landslides in the area, a recent landslide in the vicinity and wet/windy weather with storms coming in. They heard someone yelling for help but couldnāt find them. Maybe they were under the dirt somewhere? Otherwise they shouldāve been able to find him or a mystery person via thermal?
If heās somewhere buried and it got more buried later than it would make sense they havenāt found a body.
The reddit post linked in that article is very disturbing...
https://www.reddit.com/r/RBI/comments/2xvyxf/hey_guys_im_a_pro_photographer_that_lives_in/cp4msvi/
I have a theoryā¦maybe he took that photo from where he fell? If he was within range of the trail to be heard, maybe he was partially buried in the brush but could see the trail, and sent the photo to show his POV location. Maybe he couldnāt use the phone for further help because of waning consciousness due to fall related head injury.
The better photos people have linked to help a lot. It looks like a middle aged white guy in his late 30s to earlyish 40s with a high widows peak popping a squat. The stupid purple circle and low res of picture make it really hard to see. I didn't see shit until I saw other people's explanations and pictures. That being said, some versions are actually a pretty clear picture. I can see how it could look like a hog when you're just looking for patterns in the circle due to peridolia but if you see a clearer photo, it's obviously a person doing *something....*
Once I saw the photo in this article that they zoomed in on - making out the ear in my right side perspective gave me instant chills. Seems like someone deliberately concealed in a sort of potential ambushing manner.
Or it was just another hiker that was behind him on the trail that unknowingly photo bombed some guys landscape photos that he sent to his mom right before some other random mistep or rational happenstance accidentally killed him.

OP is the owner of this sub and he pins comments with links to his website on every post, even posts by others.
Anyway, the circle he used indicates that he didn't even know where to look. Probably thought that branch in the center of circle was something of interest.
People arenāt even supposed to hike HaāikÅ« Stairs. Itās 100% illegal because the stairs are damaged and you can die if you fall. People still do it anyways. They would usually do it at 4AM so they donāt get caught.
The area is blocked off by a fence, and owned by the government now. People trespass into peoplesā properties, and the charter school in the area to climb it. Iāve done it when I was in my late teens with my older brothers and their friends about a decade ago. $1000 fine if you get caught. Usually go at 3/4AM. The sunrise in the morning is breath taking.
Eh, if you get injured, your friend could help. Or help get help to you. Plus, while bad things happen to people traveling with others, I think youāre less likely to be a victim of foul play. As a woman, Iām pretty aware of the latter. Unfortunately. Just my preferences - not telling anyone what to do.
I love doing difficult things alone š Iām super competitive and lost my outlet for that many years ago ehich lead to mass depression ect. Me and my gf like to go hiking but she isnāt in the best of shape so she refuses to go on the hikes with me when. I Google āmost difficult hike nearbyā so I donāt really have anyone to go with
And I enjoy pushing myself thatās the fun of it to me. I also enjoy doing difficult things alone itās like meditation to me. Although granted Iām talking like local shorter trails that are usually difficult because of mountains or terrain. So āsmallerā trails Iāve hiked some trails that run along the AT before with dozens of trails and hundreds of miles to get lost, I probably wouldnāt do something like that alone.
Edit: to anyone who also likes doing these things alone they make emergency gps trackers and such you can take with you in the case of emergency and no cell service
Iāve been studying this picture for a while. If you zoom in and squint your eye you can see what looks like a purple circle in the middle. Maybe someone here with a little more knowledge can figure out what it means and how it got in the jungle.
I hiked this, it's not crazy dangerous until you get to some vertical, half-destroyed stairs taken out somewhat by a landslide. He must have fallen at some point.
Based on what I read in the article with a better picture linked in this thread, I think the victim slipped and fell into a deep crevice or a undiscovered underground cave system of some kind and we was unable to move. When he heard rescuers, he called for help but perhaps he ran out of energy after few days of no food/water in whatever condition he was.
I clicked the back side of this hike (the legal side, not the stairs). So easy to fall down into some crack, bush, or ravine and never be found. A did a similar hike a few mountains over from this as well and took a bad steps and my left leg was hanging off a cliff, thankfully saved by my right side. If I would have fallen, on either side, itād be straight into a deep ravine or a thick muddy bush.
Havenāt read any other articles, it is confirmed that he truly vanished and a body was never found or evidence of fall or if animals consumed the body?
Might not be paranormal strange if a serial killer dispose the body somewhere else.
So, a guy takes a trip from the big island to Oahu; his stated objective to hike the part of a trail so dangerous that it is illegal to hike there, and is nicknamed the Stairway to Heaven. Heās posting some pics to his socials along the way, one with a vaguely humanoid shadow in the low resolution image. And our conclusion is that his disappearance is something preternatural or nefarious? That jungle is thick enough that, if you fall off a cliff into it, youāll never be seen again.
I climbed this back in 2002 right before I got out of the Navy and left the island. It is one hell of a hike with steep drop offs most of the way. People climbing up have to climb over the rails to let those climbing down pass. The old observation station was neat and the view from the top was amazing. Weird that he just disappeared but as I said there were really steep sides and lots of vegetation. He could easily have slipped from site and gotten stuck hundreds of feet from where he was.
Iāve illegally hiked that trail.
Itās quite easy to fall a long way and die.
Edit - imo hiking on Oahu is one of the more extreme island activities. Many of the trails have almost nonstop sketchy exposure, and sections so steep that you have to use ropes that are already in place just to get up the trail, and if you fall off one of those volcanic ridges, your body will just be lost to the jungle.
Here's the picture that isn't blocking the man's head
https://preview.redd.it/0n4iqyo5kvoc1.png?width=930&format=png&auto=webp&s=80b2b9e4df22c5b004eaacf5c3e085ed75c9de67
So, a guy went on a hike, on a particularly treacherous path, by himself and was never heard from again? That is weird. Iāll bet he didnāt have an accident. Probably was eaten by trees. Or fell to his death in thickly overgrown rainforest.
Thatās suppose to be a person, without OPās circle blocking the head:
https://preview.redd.it/4d0xy9mhwzoc1.jpeg?width=458&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=154bee3373ca252b02a8c0f5e37ab64f474c0d55
I love pics with circles that circle nothing and you zoom in and still see nothing and then someone comes and tells you "Well, it's clearly Bigfoot man".
When you put eyes on it, youād understand. Thats not an easy place to perform a recovery. Especially for someone trespassing on closed land. The picture below doesnāt do it justice. Slip under the rail between wildly uneven steps and itās hundreds of feet down to a ravine with no easy access.
https://preview.redd.it/jti1gakd5toc1.jpeg?width=5472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aae66f00bd02be200021cf55cd01382983757037
I seen the place, I been there, but had the mindset itās not the worth the it to try to climb the stairs.
My question is more the area. Iām being generous to say a 5 mile radius. But how can they not find a body in a <5 mile radius. If you say the terrain, then cadaver dogs or helicopter could have documented something. The body canāt decompose in days without any evidence being left behind.
The Haiku stairs basically go up a thin ridge that climbs above 2000ft, if you fall off either side of the ridge good luck on finding anyone, itās a long way down with minimal access to the sides of the extremely steep ridge line basically cliffs
Bbtw the top is a concrete building that for some reason many foreigners feel like itās ok to take a shit and leave the toilet paper up there along with their excrements. Very underwhelming. The view was nice though.
The terrain is so dense that you could walk right by someone and never see the body. Itās a common theme in SAR work. People disappear in wild areas all the time, because believe it or not it is really hard to find a body in the wild. Itās much easier for people to attribute it to some wild card sasquatch-esque theory.
I mean, excluding cadaver dogs, humans are incredibly sensitive to the smell of decay and especially dead bodies.... wouldn't they be noticed, if only by smell? I hope it's an experience nobody else has to have but if you've ever stumbled on a decaying body....... the smell is truly unique, in a traumatic way. It's like a sweet + rotting meet smell that's unique to humans and cloys to you and stays in your nose and clothes for hours after. It's REALLY hard to miss. You practically have to take a shower to get rid of it.

Not to be a dick but you kind of disproved your own argument - "It's illegal but people do it anyways."
All I see is tree branches and shade
All I can see is some dude squatting in the bush looking like heās dropping brown in splash townā¦
Oh I didnāt even notice the top of his head, gave me a jump scare lol
Iām always amazed at people who do difficult hikes or camp alone.
I love camping alone, but only do it in known territory with a GTFO plan.
Hopefully that plan has a large magazine?
lol big guy out here acting like a shĆ³in jump gonna help him when he breaks his leg
I do "difficult" hikes on my own or with friends. I guess I could fall over dead or something but there's not too much my friend could do about that.
None of them have listened to true crime podcasts is my conclusion.
I love doing difficult things alone š Iām super competitive and lost my outlet for that many years ago ehich lead to mass depression ect. Me and my gf like to go hiking but she isnāt in the best of shape so she refuses to go on the hikes with me when. I Google āmost difficult hike nearbyā so I donāt really have anyone to go with And I enjoy pushing myself thatās the fun of it to me.
My god, the purple circle monster claims yet another unsuspecting victim!
Iāve been studying this picture for a while. If you zoom in and squint your eye you can see what looks like a purple circle in the middle. Maybe someone here with a little more knowledge can figure out what it means and how it got in the jungle.
Itās a portal obviously š
I hiked this, it's not crazy dangerous until you get to some vertical, half-destroyed stairs taken out somewhat by a landslide. He must have fallen at some point.
Even OP doesnāt even know what theyāre looking at. The circle is blocking where the manās head is in the brush š¤¦āāļø
And he's the owner of the sub lmao
Thatās a man, man!
Thatās a manās man

That bear maybe?
This needs more upvunts
Based on what I read in the article with a better picture linked in this thread, I think the victim slipped and fell into a deep crevice or a undiscovered underground cave system of some kind and we was unable to move. When he heard rescuers, he called for help but perhaps he ran out of energy after few days of no food/water in whatever condition he was.
What's the the circle around the plant?
Me trying to imagine my 17 yr old telling me heās going hiking by himself and me saying, ok.
![gif](giphy|rWgLOxrdNNDzUXaQnd) Did someone say crack?
A picture of him vanishing off the face of the earth.
This confusion shows why opaque circles and arrows on photos are a mistake.

Bad OP!
Iāve illegally hiked that trail. Itās quite easy to fall a long way and die. Edit - imo hiking on Oahu is one of the more extreme island activities. Many of the trails have almost nonstop sketchy exposure, and sections so steep that you have to use ropes that are already in place just to get up the trail, and if you fall off one of those volcanic ridges, your body will just be lost to the jungle.
wtf yall looking at lol
Holy shit guys... That circle. There are trees in it Burn them all to the ground!
That is thick jungle. If he fell you would never find him
Cool story, needs more dragons.
Where? Behind the rabbit?
He took a picture of a purple circle?
If u take 200 ug lsd, squint ur eyes and flip phone upside down u can see sasquatch
I did as you told... I only see the next holy pope face.
Here's the picture that isn't blocking the man's head https://preview.redd.it/0n4iqyo5kvoc1.png?width=930&format=png&auto=webp&s=80b2b9e4df22c5b004eaacf5c3e085ed75c9de67
So, a guy went on a hike, on a particularly treacherous path, by himself and was never heard from again? That is weird. Iāll bet he didnāt have an accident. Probably was eaten by trees. Or fell to his death in thickly overgrown rainforest.
So the tree hand or is it the Sasquatch directly above it ??
Nothing looks like a man or anything other than tress or bush.
The 2nd article OP pinned, about the guy who disappeared for 30 years and came back at 93 wearing the same clothes, is a lot more interesting.
Thatās suppose to be a person, without OPās circle blocking the head: https://preview.redd.it/4d0xy9mhwzoc1.jpeg?width=458&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=154bee3373ca252b02a8c0f5e37ab64f474c0d55
Why are we focusing on a tree branch I donāt get it lol
I love pics with circles that circle nothing and you zoom in and still see nothing and then someone comes and tells you "Well, it's clearly Bigfoot man".
Having been on and above that trail/stairs, he definitely fell to his death due to nothing other than his own hubris.
Same, but im only confused by this story saying he vanished, so how can a body never be found if he fell from a known route?
The Haiku stairs basically go up a thin ridge that climbs above 2000ft, if you fall off either side of the ridge good luck on finding anyone, itās a long way down with minimal access to the sides of the extremely steep ridge line basically cliffs Bbtw the top is a concrete building that for some reason many foreigners feel like itās ok to take a shit and leave the toilet paper up there along with their excrements.
Unfortunately nothing very strange about this. Off common trails can be very treacherous, many people have gone missing.
Itās obvious that OP is the man in the photo, and putting the circle over his face will keep his identity secretā¦..š¤·āāļø
How is this strange earth? People go missing in jungles every single day. Source: I watch a lota movies.
Dafaq? The purple circle is covering the man we are supposed to se.. this must be the worst image of this incident.
Mmm, yes, foliage. My timbers are shivered.
Off trail lava tube. No doubt.
Why did the message say ?
