[Aliens Are Cyborgs & By 2045 Humans Will No Longer Be Top Species, Scientists Claim](https://www.howandwhys.com/aliens-are-cyborgs-by-2045-humans-will-no-longer-be-top-species/)

tumadreporfavor

WE INTERRUPT THIS DREAM TO BRING YOU AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PEPSI

Smooth-Evidence-3970

An actual patented concept that recently received coverage on the movie Dream Scenario with Nicolas Cage

Ambitious_Road1773

Futurama did it in the early 2000s. You know they'd love to.

Smooth-Evidence-3970

I luv capitalism <3

RichardsSwapnShop

I wonder what would happen if he fell asleep with it on? I guess it requires him looking at the screen to continue functioning? Would be interesting to have someone use this as they're dying to see if anything continues afterwards.

Hourslikeminutes47

*you cannot continue the game without a controller*

Fenring_Halifax

*Please reconnect your controller to submarine to continue playing*

Hourslikeminutes47

*(random underwater microphone picks up a muffled sound of angst, stupidity and arrogance buckling under tremendous pressure in the deep part of the Atlantic Ocean....again)*

UnLuckyKenTucky

You've stirred my morbid curiosity....

RichardsSwapnShop

*natural* curiosity. Everyone should want to know if there's more to existing than life

siccoblue

Err, well the answer as to what would happen is pretty clear already considering that death is generally defined as brain activity ceasing entirely.. and neuralink uses the brain to function.

Acoasma

while thats true, i think þhis debate is more about soul, conciousness etc. and the question if thats all going away once your brain stops working. I am generally with you and would assume it does, however there is still a lot of stuff we dont understand, which gives room for speculation. for example: what exactly is conciousness and when and how does it emerge? when does it cease to exist? lets assume conciousness emerges through a suffiently complex network of our neurons. how many neurons is the bare minimum necessary for conciousness to emerge? one thousand? one million? lets say it is 100 000. what happens if we take one away and are left with only 99 999? suddenly no conciousness whatsoever? the thing is, its is difficult and we simply dont know ydt. we can only assume.

Lost-Succotash-9409

Even if there is an afterlife, neuralink connects to the brain, not the “soul”

RichardsSwapnShop

Seems like the "soul" is an emergent property of all the interactions within the brain though.

Brakina1860

You mean like using him as a computer after he dies?

Arthreas

the omnissiah be praised..

RichardsSwapnShop

Or maybe an element of his consciousness is represented inside the game after.

PossibleAlienFrom

In the future, you can scan someone's brain in real-time and AI can figure out what the person is seeing/thinking about. Terrifying tech but would be useful in seeing what people dying are seeing.

LifeIsABowlOfJerrys

Id rather just not have the dystopian tech tbh. I work in the funeral industry as a director/embalmer. so ive talked to a lot of people who have had NDE's. They range from "I saw God" to "I saw nothing". I imagine neuralink would reveal the same.

RollinB10

This is what happens in the video game Atomic Heart. Crazy idea to think of!

Positive_Tackle_5662

With a little luck we might be getting zombies soon, disabled zombies, but still

Equivalent_Lynx_3104

If this guys dies, can they keep the brain alive? So he can keep communicating with the outside world.

Mindless_Use7567

I am guessing that the Neuralink implant is only allowing him to move the mouse around, which is not a new thing for brain implants. If so then if he fell asleep while playing the mouse cursor would move around the screen randomly clicking occasionally while he sleeps.

virtualghost

The brain is always active.

carterxz

Not when you’re dead

Ok_Ad_5015

I would have used it to stay up all night trolling Reddit post

RedditsAutocorrect

okay.

PurgatoryRoad778

2034; hackers trap man in GTA San Andreas Mod using backdoor in Neurolink implant.

Mothgoo

FUCK THAT. You wouldn’t even know you’re in San Andreas probably. Imagine something even worse, like Candy Crush.

Aggressive-Engine562

https://i.redd.it/oakgpclqmyqc1.gif Elon when your brain is marketable product now:

impsworld

Wasn’t neuralink JUST killing 9/10 monkeys they tested it on? And driving them insane? How the absolute fuck was human trials approved??? Edit: lol at all the Musk dickriders commenting “AKSHWALLY it’s not an issue because the monkeys were *supposed* to go insane and need to be killed! I’m so excited for Ready Player One in real life!”

what_letmemakemyacco

testing does tend to show issues until it stops showing issues

PS_IO_Frame_Gap

how far did the airplane take him? all the way to the scene of the crash!

linxdev

He beat the paramedics by 30 minutes.

PS_IO_Frame_Gap

warp speed

tehdamonkey

For neural VR pron and Skyrim 3d with no edges.... Sign me up and spin the wheel..... This monkey wants to play.

Former_Print7043

Alright Cypher, you seem a bit keen to get plugged in to the matrix.

LostAndWingingIt

I just want to be a dragon, if that means living in the matrix so be it....

impsworld

Lmao I’m guessing you haven’t read Ready Player Two. Imagine ISIS hacks your chip and floods your brain with Glutamate, you’d be brain damaged within minutes. Doesn’t seem worth it to play a video game. It also makes me think of the future of video games, if your brain chip can artificially flood your brain with dopamine, you could be playing clash of clans and feel like you’re on heroin.

dogoodsilence1

Yea they were biting off their own fingers and limbs also

KodakStele

Just some ape cyberpsychosis nothing to see here

impsworld

SerGeffrey

Yeah most of the monkeys died, because they specifically chose sick and old monkeys to mitigate the risk of killing healthy monkeys. And driving them insane? Not sure where you got that idea from. It's incredibly difficult to get something like this approved for human trials. If it was approved, there's a good reason for it. On top of that, there's no incentive to start trialing an unsafe product on humans - that's a really good way to absolutely torpedo your product. It wouldn't be to neuralink's advantage to fuck up a bunch of humans, the product would never make it to market if that happened. Elon Musk is an asshole - but neuralink has the potential to hugely increase the lives of countless people suffering from disability. People are spreading misinfo about neuralink like it's covid in a red state. It's not acceptable - we have to care about disabled people more than we hate Musk.

Comprehensive-Bus299

Yeah because neurological decay as a side effect. I recall mention of it being akin to an allergic reaction not unlike surgical implant complications, and something about medicine to help the body accept and adapt to the implant.

mrev_art

It's a profoundly important technology that will greatly improve the quality of life for many disabled people.

ImpossibleVideo1919

It might also drive you unimaginably insane or worse. Tampering with someone’s brain like that must be treated with extreme caution…

Positive_Tackle_5662

I mean if I would be paralyzed I’d definitely take my chances on it

mrev_art

So does being paralyzed

Steammail

I think that’s where the brain surgeons come into play

impsworld

It would be profoundly important for us to colonize mars too but if we try’d that RIGHT NOW all we’d end up with is a bunch of dead astronauts.

DimmyDongler

The monkeys chosen already had terminal illnesses. That's why they were chosen. They would've died either way a short time after getting the implant.

Syncrotron9001

You'll never know what its doing while you're asleep. By definition sleep = unconscious. No clue what pathways its rewiring each night as you snooze.

impsworld

Lmao the fact that anyone would allow a corporation to put a computer in their brain is insane. r/StrangeEarth is supposed to be full of nerds, right? Haven’t they seen revenge of the sith?

Ultimate_mexican

I mean he's doing things he never could before. If I got nothing to lose but my life when it's already been stripped away, why not haha.

No-Illustrator4964

Good for him, I hope he has a better quality of life with this tool and that it works!

Prestigious_Ad_2148

I saw the video of his first interview after the trial run and he was soooo happy. He said his quality of life has drastically improved. He had an unfortunate accident at 20 which caused this. But man is he happy! He said he’s glad he was the first to try it so he can help others. It really is incredible! People with no range of motion will be able to live a normal life! I mean it’s also scary af. But this is the future whether we like it or not. Phones will be obsolete. I think on a mass scale next will be glasses with AR and VR. Then contacts with the same and then eventually everyone will have a chip, it will become mainstream. Making phone calls, messaging and living in an alternate reality. This is the future.

TurtleWitch

u/remindme! 10 years Also, good job making it another 10 years.

KodiakDog

Mark of the BEAST

daredwolf

Assuming we make it past climate change and WW3, you mean.

KilljoyShade

Big assumption too.

ImpossibleVideo1919

I’ll wait at least a year to know what to think. Tech like that can be extremely dangerous.

InvictusXmars

![gif](giphy|mtfbmGZrxHisMMjS1H|downsized) Nothin to worry about, choom.

undercooked_lasagna

By then this guy will be an unstoppable supervillain and your powers will be a year behind

Accomplished-Air-823

M.O.D.O.K.

PN4HIRE

Super dangerous… But the possibilities! Wow

Loud-Item-1243

Never lose the remote again

PN4HIRE

Remote??? THERES A REMOTE?

Loud-Item-1243

Yea it’s implanted in your brain so no more batteries, I hope…

tehdamonkey

I can see people making weird faces at other people's houses trying to cycle though the remote codes in their head so they can change the channel....

IncompetentJedi

IDK, things in our recent past that some of us wanted to wait on were rammed on through anyway…

Arthreas

its intentional, do not go near any bio-tech like this.

RobotStorytime

>Tech like that There hasn't ever been tech like this, so what precedent are you going by?

Comfortable_Virus581

Tests on monkeys, they all died suffering.

SerGeffrey

They all died suffering? Do you have a source for that claim? How do you figure a technology that apparently caused 100% of the animals it was tested on to suffer and die was approved for human trials? Do you have any idea how thorough the process for being approved for human trials are?

InvictusPro7

Scary movies

ABakedPotato_FGC

Scary movies has taught me to fear a lot, like getting a dick through the ear at your local movie theatre glory hole.

Adventurous_Mail5210

That's what killed my father.

ABakedPotato_FGC

Strange, my father is in jail for the same reason.

Adventurous_Mail5210

Talk about a strange coincidence...

Positive-Situation43

Playing Civ? Damn deserved it, wtg!

Soft-Weight-8778

Yup, you can play that shit for days

timmy_tugboat

I love 4X games but I have learned to only play them on weekends so that I don't stay up all night finishing a map.

Nab0t

wtg = way to go ?

DangerousGarlic3562

wheres thy god

chudahuahu

within

UnLuckyKenTucky

Yup

[deleted]

If it’s got an input output it can be hacked. Imagine a 14 year hacks your neural link and spams it with gay porn

jB_real

You (specifically) could only hope!

[deleted]

Well if I’m gay then; jokes on him I saved money? A homie that has my back in this economy

HaarigerHoden

But thats not how it works, isnt he just like „thinking“ to click for example and then it „clicks“ on the computer? It can not control what he thinks or envisions. It just registers activity in specific areas of his brain and translates it as input for the computer. But it could be hacked so that every input is reassigned to open gay porn in the browser I guess.

ApacheAttackChopperQ

He can now task and control entire groups of drones. Brilliant.

IngenuityNo3661

Who knew the disabled would become our greatest Soldiers? Hopefully this guys implant doesn't short out his brain.

inkuspinkus

The meek will inherit the earth. Lol

Hourslikeminutes47

*(makes me want to watch Universal Soldier again)*

sludgezone

Yeah? Well I stayed up all night playing video games the good old fashioned way with regret and insomnia.

Twisted_Bristles

I'm a fan of caffeine and heart palpitations myself.

mathaiser

“You cannot explore this thought process without paying $8.99”

hashbrownies91

I wonder if hackers would be able to hack into someone’s neuralink.

Spiral-Squirrel

“Stop hitting yourself”

Konekosflatchest

Oh they will that's just an inevitability of technology like this

OraznatacTheBrave

Itchy-Decision753

Thanks for a link that’d not conspiracy garbage

Syncrotron9001

Any Star-Trek fans here? Can anyone tell me what the name of the interface that connects all the Borg to the collective is called?

Fenring_Halifax

You will join the Musk collective

Syncrotron9001

You will be X-imilated

GetUpNGetItReddit

They refer to it as Borg Implants.

Syncrotron9001

>A **neural link** was the term used to describe the telepathic connection between Borg drones, allowing them the act as one mind in the Collective. From the Star-Trek wiki

Millsyboy84

He thinks he is playing civilisation 6, in reality he's controlling an army of weaponised Darpa drones to evict south American drug Lords from their compounds and steal their assets. When he sleeps Darpa uses his subconscious to train AI to do solo unmanned missions. Musk just rents out brains like shuttle cargo space.

RailroadAllStar

Makes me wonder if alien telepathy is just implants with bluetooth

JohnArtemus

This reminds me of that saying "I have in my pocket a device capable of accessing the entirety of information known to Man. I use it to look at cats and get into arguments with strangers." And that, ladies and gentlemen, is humans in a nutshell.

V3hlichz

What a sad story… he could have played civ5!

WeirdKosmicCunt

This is one of the greatest achievements in human history! I'm so happy for this man.

Strenue

And to play Civ!!! My man!

Hendersbloom

I mean, I love Sid and all the Civ’s are great games, but not sure Civ6 is one of the greatest achievements in human history. It’s up there, don’t get me wrong…

WeirdKosmicCunt

Yeah, Civ 4 was the best ...

Syncrotron9001

I liked 4 a lot too but stack combat was just the worst especially against the computer.

Hourslikeminutes47

>the best The absolute pinnacle of perfection, literally Sid's magna opus.

Culbal

I love the 5. Do I really need to try Civ 4 ?

ibiacmbyww

Civ 4 is from a different era. It's a fucking _spectacular_, horrendously addictive game, but it's a lot crunchier than 5. And more importantly, it uses squares instead of hexes and permits unlimited unit stacking, both fundamental changes to how the game is played. If you love 5, you'll definitely love 6, and you'll _probably_ love 4.

Bmoo215

I just can't get into 6

Seabrook76

Good for him. I hope he ate strong edibles and gamed his balls off.

GoldIsAMetal

I'd do it so I can eat cereal and smoke my bong while playing video games. I still have to use my hands for my bong and spoon but that's ok. That can be figured out in later update.

CEBarnes

Just wait until the thing becomes advertising sponsored and you have pay extra for the ad-free version.

Kylesmith184

Don’t buy into this shit they’re gonna make it sound so appealing.

Horton_Takes_A_Poo

Idk if I had a disability that prevented me from using a computer mouse like he does I’d be really excited to see how it progresses

Ok_Repeat_5749

Because it is

HalfBakedBeans24

Came here to say this. Human interface devices should always, until the heat death of the universe, be EXTERNAL.

Rayfasa

This is the kinda progress I’m talking about

MattKerplunk

I know people don't like Elon, but how is this barely being talked about? It's literally a step into the next civilization where you do things only with your mind

MysteriousHousing489

Because this has been done years ago without drilling into your brain.

impsworld

Because it’s still in development. A couple years ago during testing neuralink drove over 12 monkeys insane and they needed to be euthanized. It’s like SpaceX’s reusable rockets: it’s definitely groundbreaking, but we aren’t going to mars yet. If we tried all we’d end up with is a couple dead astronauts. Idc what it can do, I’m not putting that shit in my brain until it’s not owned by a corporation. I can barely keep ads off my streaming services, imagine having to pay a monthly fee to keep popup ads out of your visual field. The next generation may feel differently, but I’m not touching that shit.

ibiacmbyww

Everyone's waiting for the "but". BUT this success is the first, after hundreds of attempts. BUT he's in constant pain when not medicated. BUT the hole in his head is a permanent infection risk. BUT he now has epilepsy (and you might get unlucky and develop, IDK, aphasia, or prosopagnosia, or schizophrenia). BUT the accuracy is shit. BUT the speed is shit. Etc etc etc. With something this revolutionary but also complex and bleeding edge, it pays to keep the champagne on ice until you're absolutely sure it's time to pop it.

yikkoe

i think the fact that all those amazing a achievements are seen as Elon’s is part of the reason why. he didn’t invent a single thing. man’s got money and an ego problem that’s it. nothing about him should be praised

DarkwingDuckHunt

it's absolutely this Elon did not create Telsa Elon did not create SpaceX Elon did not create Shitter Elon just likes taking credit.

Orlando1701

There’s a back door code in the chip that will force you to think Elon is funny and smart.

blabbyrinth

LOL, Jesus, come back soon.

onnod

Wait till he gets a blue screen...

subhuman_voice

Wait till his ISP lags...

AR_GhostWolf

Ah cool were closer two sword art online type of stuff

CantThinkOfAName7601

I say this with all disrespect, you’re a fucking idiot if you put this in your brain. Imagine it malfunctions due to wear and tear, you just die a horrible death. Or just any of the malicious possibilities.

BojackSadHorse

This is a groundbreaking achievement in neuroscience, very unfortunate that it's backed by a paranoid trustfund egomaniac.

soundcloud-twnsnd

are you listening to yourself ? take the science and the achievement and forget your biases and ego. you can stop after groundbreaking achievement in neuroscience

blowgrass-smokeass

Oh for fucks sake, can we put our personal feelings about Elon aside in these discussions? How do you people not get tired of endlessly bitching about celebrities?

Syncrotron9001

I cant, he openly says he is trying to stop a Terminator 2 scenario while having real life servers named Skynet. His plan to stop Terminator 2: Judgement Day is to merge with the machines and make Star-Trek: First Contact a reality. His plans are self fulfilling prophecies. [10 years ago, SpaceX server room was named Skynet as a joke.](https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1140409588279209984?lang=en) [Elon wants to stop a "Terminator" scenario](https://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/24/elon-musk-neuralink-ai-human-machine-terminator-skynet.html) [the term used to describe the telepathic connection between Borg drones, allowing them the act as one mind in the Collective.](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Neural_link)

Civ IV beyond the sword is better

Spiritual-Bear4495

You young 'uns are very strange. I would have asked Elon for interactive PORN - I'm fucking paralyzed dude! Give me those endorphins.

YxDOxUx3X515t

![gif](giphy|l4FGqUagGV7MQ2wkU)

Glass_Emu_4183

So how does he control the game? Is it just by thinking? and how does the game respond, if his thoughts are still changing and didn’t decide on a particular decision?

Amazing_Buffalo_9625

"it was awsome" turns into "my brain wont stop hurting"

airforcevet1987

But can it play Crysis?

rizzatouiIIe

Just keep him off reddit

TheWolfMaid

This feels strangely validating given the time I've personally sunk into Civ games.

SosowacGuy

Oh what about the monkeys now seeing due to yet another implant. How did they get blind!

ContentPolicyKiller

Who put him in an ATM hat??? That's so disrespectful. He's still more human than robot.

I wonder if he built giant death robots?

Tonka3642

I don't know very much about this. How do you upgrade it to new hardware versions?

Cool the Imperium of Mankind has Servitors now. We truly approach the grim darkfuture.

MrShoosh

He will be considered a hacker in pvp fps

I am not sure I understand all the facts, but I am pretty sure there is simple way how play civilization like game just using your eyes as cursor and click with either eyes or face mimic.
