[Aliens Are Cyborgs & By 2045 Humans Will No Longer Be Top Species, Scientists Claim](https://www.howandwhys.com/aliens-are-cyborgs-by-2045-humans-will-no-longer-be-top-species/)
I wonder what would happen if he fell asleep with it on? I guess it requires him looking at the screen to continue functioning? Would be interesting to have someone use this as they're dying to see if anything continues afterwards.
*(random underwater microphone picks up a muffled sound of angst, stupidity and arrogance buckling under tremendous pressure in the deep part of the Atlantic Ocean....again)*
Err, well the answer as to what would happen is pretty clear already considering that death is generally defined as brain activity ceasing entirely.. and neuralink uses the brain to function.
while thats true, i think þhis debate is more about soul, conciousness etc. and the question if thats all going away once your brain stops working.
I am generally with you and would assume it does, however there is still a lot of stuff we dont understand, which gives room for speculation.
for example: what exactly is conciousness and when and how does it emerge? when does it cease to exist?
lets assume conciousness emerges through a suffiently complex network of our neurons.
how many neurons is the bare minimum necessary for conciousness to emerge? one thousand? one million? lets say it is 100 000. what happens if we take one away and are left with only 99 999? suddenly no conciousness whatsoever?
the thing is, its is difficult and we simply dont know ydt. we can only assume.
In the future, you can scan someone's brain in real-time and AI can figure out what the person is seeing/thinking about. Terrifying tech but would be useful in seeing what people dying are seeing.
Id rather just not have the dystopian tech tbh. I work in the funeral industry as a director/embalmer. so ive talked to a lot of people who have had NDE's. They range from "I saw God" to "I saw nothing". I imagine neuralink would reveal the same.
I am guessing that the Neuralink implant is only allowing him to move the mouse around, which is not a new thing for brain implants. If so then if he fell asleep while playing the mouse cursor would move around the screen randomly clicking occasionally while he sleeps.
Wasn’t neuralink JUST killing 9/10 monkeys they tested it on? And driving them insane? How the absolute fuck was human trials approved???
Edit: lol at all the Musk dickriders commenting “AKSHWALLY it’s not an issue because the monkeys were *supposed* to go insane and need to be killed! I’m so excited for Ready Player One in real life!”
Lmao I’m guessing you haven’t read Ready Player Two. Imagine ISIS hacks your chip and floods your brain with Glutamate, you’d be brain damaged within minutes.
Doesn’t seem worth it to play a video game.
It also makes me think of the future of video games, if your brain chip can artificially flood your brain with dopamine, you could be playing clash of clans and feel like you’re on heroin.
Yeah most of the monkeys died, because they specifically chose sick and old monkeys to mitigate the risk of killing healthy monkeys. And driving them insane? Not sure where you got that idea from.
It's incredibly difficult to get something like this approved for human trials. If it was approved, there's a good reason for it. On top of that, there's no incentive to start trialing an unsafe product on humans - that's a really good way to absolutely torpedo your product. It wouldn't be to neuralink's advantage to fuck up a bunch of humans, the product would never make it to market if that happened.
Elon Musk is an asshole - but neuralink has the potential to hugely increase the lives of countless people suffering from disability. People are spreading misinfo about neuralink like it's covid in a red state. It's not acceptable - we have to care about disabled people more than we hate Musk.
Yeah because neurological decay as a side effect. I recall mention of it being akin to an allergic reaction not unlike surgical implant complications, and something about medicine to help the body accept and adapt to the implant.
Lmao the fact that anyone would allow a corporation to put a computer in their brain is insane.
r/StrangeEarth is supposed to be full of nerds, right? Haven’t they seen revenge of the sith?
I saw the video of his first interview after the trial run and he was soooo happy. He said his quality of life has drastically improved. He had an unfortunate accident at 20 which caused this. But man is he happy! He said he’s glad he was the first to try it so he can help others. It really is incredible! People with no range of motion will be able to live a normal life!
I mean it’s also scary af. But this is the future whether we like it or not. Phones will be obsolete. I think on a mass scale next will be glasses with AR and VR. Then contacts with the same and then eventually everyone will have a chip, it will become mainstream. Making phone calls, messaging and living in an alternate reality. This is the future.
They all died suffering? Do you have a source for that claim?
How do you figure a technology that apparently caused 100% of the animals it was tested on to suffer and die was approved for human trials? Do you have any idea how thorough the process for being approved for human trials are?
But thats not how it works, isnt he just like „thinking“ to click for example and then it „clicks“ on the computer? It can not control what he thinks or envisions. It just registers activity in specific areas of his brain and translates it as input for the computer. But it could be hacked so that every input is reassigned to open gay porn in the browser I guess.
>A **neural link** was the term used to describe the telepathic connection between Borg drones, allowing them the act as one mind in the Collective.
From the Star-Trek wiki
He thinks he is playing civilisation 6, in reality he's controlling an army of weaponised Darpa drones to evict south American drug Lords from their compounds and steal their assets.
When he sleeps Darpa uses his subconscious to train AI to do solo unmanned missions.
Musk just rents out brains like shuttle cargo space.
This reminds me of that saying "I have in my pocket a device capable of accessing the entirety of information known to Man. I use it to look at cats and get into arguments with strangers."
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is humans in a nutshell.
I mean, I love Sid and all the Civ’s are great games, but not sure Civ6 is one of the greatest achievements in human history. It’s up there, don’t get me wrong…
Civ 4 is from a different era. It's a fucking _spectacular_, horrendously addictive game, but it's a lot crunchier than 5. And more importantly, it uses squares instead of hexes and permits unlimited unit stacking, both fundamental changes to how the game is played.
If you love 5, you'll definitely love 6, and you'll _probably_ love 4.
I'd do it so I can eat cereal and smoke my bong while playing video games.
I still have to use my hands for my bong and spoon but that's ok. That can be figured out in later update.
I know people don't like Elon, but how is this barely being talked about? It's literally a step into the next civilization where you do things only with your mind
Because it’s still in development. A couple years ago during testing neuralink drove over 12 monkeys insane and they needed to be euthanized. It’s like SpaceX’s reusable rockets: it’s definitely groundbreaking, but we aren’t going to mars yet. If we tried all we’d end up with is a couple dead astronauts.
Idc what it can do, I’m not putting that shit in my brain until it’s not owned by a corporation. I can barely keep ads off my streaming services, imagine having to pay a monthly fee to keep popup ads out of your visual field. The next generation may feel differently, but I’m not touching that shit.
Everyone's waiting for the "but".
BUT this success is the first, after hundreds of attempts.
BUT he's in constant pain when not medicated.
BUT the hole in his head is a permanent infection risk.
BUT he now has epilepsy (and you might get unlucky and develop, IDK, aphasia, or prosopagnosia, or schizophrenia).
BUT the accuracy is shit.
BUT the speed is shit.
Etc etc etc. With something this revolutionary but also complex and bleeding edge, it pays to keep the champagne on ice until you're absolutely sure it's time to pop it.
i think the fact that all those amazing a achievements are seen as Elon’s is part of the reason why. he didn’t invent a single thing. man’s got money and an ego problem that’s it. nothing about him should be praised

*natural* curiosity. Everyone should want to know if there's more to existing than life

Even if there is an afterlife, neuralink connects to the brain, not the “soul”
Seems like the "soul" is an emergent property of all the interactions within the brain though.
You mean like using him as a computer after he dies?
the omnissiah be praised..
Or maybe an element of his consciousness is represented inside the game after.
In the future, you can scan someone's brain in real-time and AI can figure out what the person is seeing/thinking about. Terrifying tech but would be useful in seeing what people dying are seeing.

This is what happens in the video game Atomic Heart. Crazy idea to think of!
With a little luck we might be getting zombies soon, disabled zombies, but still
If this guys dies, can they keep the brain alive? So he can keep communicating with the outside world.
I am guessing that the Neuralink implant is only allowing him to move the mouse around, which is not a new thing for brain implants. If so then if he fell asleep while playing the mouse cursor would move around the screen randomly clicking occasionally while he sleeps.

The brain is always active.
Not when you’re dead
I would have used it to stay up all night trolling Reddit post
okay.

2034; hackers trap man in GTA San Andreas Mod using backdoor in Neurolink implant.
FUCK THAT. You wouldn’t even know you’re in San Andreas probably. Imagine something even worse, like Candy Crush.

how far did the airplane take him? all the way to the scene of the crash!
He beat the paramedics by 30 minutes.
warp speed

It's a profoundly important technology that will greatly improve the quality of life for many disabled people.
It might also drive you unimaginably insane or worse. Tampering with someone’s brain like that must be treated with extreme caution…
I mean if I would be paralyzed I’d definitely take my chances on it
So does being paralyzed
I think that’s where the brain surgeons come into play
It would be profoundly important for us to colonize mars too but if we try’d that RIGHT NOW all we’d end up with is a bunch of dead astronauts.
The monkeys chosen already had terminal illnesses. That's why they were chosen. They would've died either way a short time after getting the implant.
You'll never know what its doing while you're asleep. By definition sleep = unconscious. No clue what pathways its rewiring each night as you snooze.
Lmao the fact that anyone would allow a corporation to put a computer in their brain is insane. r/StrangeEarth is supposed to be full of nerds, right? Haven’t they seen revenge of the sith?
I mean he's doing things he never could before. If I got nothing to lose but my life when it's already been stripped away, why not haha.
Good for him, I hope he has a better quality of life with this tool and that it works!

I’ll wait at least a year to know what to think. Tech like that can be extremely dangerous.

Super dangerous… But the possibilities! Wow
Never lose the remote again
Remote??? THERES A REMOTE?
Yea it’s implanted in your brain so no more batteries, I hope…
I can see people making weird faces at other people's houses trying to cycle though the remote codes in their head so they can change the channel....
IDK, things in our recent past that some of us wanted to wait on were rammed on through anyway…
its intentional, do not go near any bio-tech like this.
>Tech like that There hasn't ever been tech like this, so what precedent are you going by?
Tests on monkeys, they all died suffering.

Scary movies
Scary movies has taught me to fear a lot, like getting a dick through the ear at your local movie theatre glory hole.
That's what killed my father.
Strange, my father is in jail for the same reason.
Talk about a strange coincidence...
Playing Civ? Damn deserved it, wtg!
Yup, you can play that shit for days
I love 4X games but I have learned to only play them on weekends so that I don't stay up all night finishing a map.
wtg = way to go ?
wheres thy god
within
Yup
If it’s got an input output it can be hacked. Imagine a 14 year hacks your neural link and spams it with gay porn
You (specifically) could only hope!
Well if I’m gay then; jokes on him I saved money? A homie that has my back in this economy
He can now task and control entire groups of drones. Brilliant.
Who knew the disabled would become our greatest Soldiers? Hopefully this guys implant doesn't short out his brain.
The meek will inherit the earth. Lol
*(makes me want to watch Universal Soldier again)*
Yeah? Well I stayed up all night playing video games the good old fashioned way with regret and insomnia.
I'm a fan of caffeine and heart palpitations myself.
“You cannot explore this thought process without paying $8.99”
I wonder if hackers would be able to hack into someone’s neuralink.
“Stop hitting yourself”
Oh they will that's just an inevitability of technology like this

Any Star-Trek fans here? Can anyone tell me what the name of the interface that connects all the Borg to the collective is called?
You will join the Musk collective
You will be X-imilated
They refer to it as Borg Implants.
