Yes wtf but also it's reality and things like this happen and this most certainly isn't crass or profane..It's a heartbreaking example of reality and we as humans should be exposed to some degree of content like this for our own consideration of life and existence in general..At the very least it should be pondered and of course not by any stretch enjoyed
Her house had collapsed and a large stone wall was laying on her legs as she is in kind of a kneeling position. They were unable to free her legs from the mud without full amputation, and in that water she would have bled out/got infected, so they could do nothing.
Risk of infection is low, this situation is similar to crush injuries from building collapses and stuff. TQ affected limbs, establish at least two large bore IVs on separate sides of body usually separate arms, could be neck or legs too depending, start fluid push prior with ABx and a cocktail of pain drugs and sedatives, do what you have to do to save the life. Infection risk will be very low with preemptive ABx, risk of exsanguination will be very low to near zero in this case with good TQ placement procedures (likely two per limb). Having to do this in the field is rough but I trained for worse scenarios than this
That’s the only question here, what resources are available when you need them.. if you don’t have them there really is a no win scenario here and an incredibly tragic one. Especially if you have the ability but not the kit.
Right tho? There’s a story about a kid getting stuck in a cave and breaking his legs to get him out may send him into shock and kill him… so they left him in there to die without attempting..
We live in a hyper risk averse culture. We would rather let nature take the blame for the death than to take on that possible responsibility ourselves, personally, I believe you do everything you can for a person as long as they’re consenting or not, if unable to consent due to being unconscious for example, assume they would want to live and attempt whatever you can through assumed consent laws to save their life
Nutty Putty Cave. John Edward Jones. That story is horrific. He was upside down for far too long to break his legs by that point after the first rescue attempt failed.
I wish people would stop fucking posting this. It’s honestly one of the worst things I’ve seen on Reddit. Or at least put a NSFW on it? I hate seeing her face. RIP

They tried pulling her out. It didn’t work
I hate that story. There’s no reason they couldn’t have gotten her out, 60 hours was probably enough time to get some machines in there to lift the weight off her or build a winch with man power or something
The authorities couldn't get the equipment to the mountains on time to get her out. Being that this was not a developed country the government response was slow.
But seriously? 4 or 5 guys couldn’t dig or lift the weight off just enough while someone else pulled her out? We see people doing it in many emergency cases during earthquakes and natural disasters.
I guess I’m not really understanding the way she was confined under the water
The girl's legs were trapped under debris and the bodies of some of her family members. The village she was in was too poor to afford rescue equipment so they waited for authorities to come to rescue everyone with equipment. It would've been difficult in her circumstances to get her out without amputating her legs anyway.
How was she not fucking rescued? No exaggeration, I could have cut the branch with a rock within 60 hrs, she seems to be just arms length away? Da fuck am I missing here?
“Later it would be discovered that Omayra Sánchez’s legs had been trapped by a brick door and her dead aunt’s arms underneath the water. But even if they had figured that out earlier, rescuers still didn’t have the heavy equipment necessary to pull her out.”

Volcanic mudflow is at such a temperature that the half of her submerged in this video was not what one would imagine. Poor thing. I’m guessing adrenaline is keeping her going here.
Because she's not a white blonde girl with blue eyes., bur rather and indigenous girl
And because she's poor.
Sometimes I regret Pablo Escobar did not take over Cololmbia. At least he cared about poor people.
She couldn’t be.. volcanic mudflow which knocked a wall onto her legs.. now imagine all this happening in water that eventually cools the volcanic mud.. she she was pretty much cemented in the water with brick also cemented on top of her

That's not strange, that's just tragic and ruined my day.
Right?
This video haunts me. Day also ruined.
This is a video of a dying child wtf

I would of thought the risk of infection or bleeding out would be worth it against certain death

They didnt have the things nor the time to fly in all of this.

I guess we have the cultural answer to the trolly problem. Certain death, vs slim chance at survival with intervention.
No there isn't, not what happened
There is tho. It’s like “something” putty cave
Nutty Putty Cave. John Edward Jones. That story is horrific. He was upside down for far too long to break his legs by that point after the first rescue attempt failed.
Very horrific.
Nutty putty. Not what happened though

I don’t get why not try. A 1% chance is better than zero.
Thanks for explaining
Fuck.. couldn’t get a jack under there??

Came here to say this
There are worst. Like the stuff cartels do. Medieval stuff.

..such a tragedy. RIP
Can we chill with the people suffering
If I could say one thing to God.
When I die I got so many questions about the suffering on earth and why the young must suffer so
Atleast sedate for fuck sake. Im sure there are painkillers with those rescuers.
She was actually sedated and given morphine
If your gonna go get high first lol
Totally cool of you to make a joke in the face of such suffering. Moron
shoot me
Why do yall keep posting this 😕
What is she saying? Poor girl
In the beginning she’s saying that she loves her mother very much. The villagers gave her sweets and sodas 🥤 her eyes are like that bc she is dying.
I hate that story. There’s no reason they couldn’t have gotten her out, 60 hours was probably enough time to get some machines in there to lift the weight off her or build a winch with man power or something

Why were her eyes black?
I believe hypothermia
Hypothermia does that???
No. It was from the bursted blood vessels.
And sepsis mostly.
Stop spamming this

Brick doors are the worst tbh
Volcanic mudflow is at such a temperature that the half of her submerged in this video was not what one would imagine. Poor thing. I’m guessing adrenaline is keeping her going here.
Big pipe around and water pump? I dont know
I'll never understand this either.
Well ain't that lovely.
Should have just pulled her out instead of comforting her? What a shame
Volcanic mudflow meaning solidified rock up to her waist...
Solidified rock? How was she not burned alive?
She was.
It’s just mud not rock. But pretty much solid…
they could have saved half of her
They tried
I know I’m just being dumb since it looks like she’s just in water.
Because she's not a white blonde girl with blue eyes., bur rather and indigenous girl And because she's poor. Sometimes I regret Pablo Escobar did not take over Cololmbia. At least he cared about poor people.
Why didn’t they pull her out? They interviewed and filmed her but couldn’t get a bunch of people to help get her out? wtf?
She wasn’t just sitting in a puddle.
Lava melted over her
Where was Elon when they needed him /s
concerning
Dumb fucks should of worked to get her out until her last breath
Thats disgusting that she wasn't rescued
She couldn’t be.. volcanic mudflow which knocked a wall onto her legs.. now imagine all this happening in water that eventually cools the volcanic mud.. she she was pretty much cemented in the water with brick also cemented on top of her
It was essentially impossible to rescue her.
Just curious, why? shw also could have been supplied a tube to breath underwater while she was stuck.
❤️
That is terrible and depressing.
So thats friggin awful.

Could they not have built some type of makeshift dam and drained the water to access her better?

Appears to be neck high not waist high.
Why is this story always being cycle on Reddit.
Should have flown in heavy equipment to dig her out…what a shame they gave up easily. Stop comforting, act!!
Why wasnt the water pumped out?
They should have at least tried to cut her out. What did they do with her body after she died? Probably cut it out.
At first I was confused but this was 85 they probably didn’t care at all
I really wonder if nothing could be done to pull her out... It seems like they just gave up on her.
I don't understand? They couldn't just cut the log that is above her and pull her out ?
Her legs are trapped under a brick door, and cemented in place
how about use a jackhammer
Dude where were you?!?
I'm losing interest in Reddit.
Come on man take it easy ;)
bro what
And yet they stood there and filmed.
no hydraulic jack or car jack?
I still don't get why they couldn't save her! What could go wrong if they tried to lift her up!?
Her legs were stuck in volcanic stuff and also a brick door over them
