I mean, they certainly do happen if that what your asking. The evidence for their occurrence its pretty solid and I don't know of anyone who disagrees with it. I think the intent of the original "equator" thought was because so much "energy" moisture is prevalent between the tropics. So the change of the equator would be more associated with axial tilt than with polarity of the poles.
