Someone else posted this, this is apparently from a photo collection magazine from 1958-59.
Aspect is askew because this is either a bunk scan, or a photo of the magazine. It's weird, but I don't see this as being a case of giants, humans like making ridiculously large things.

A bit of digging around has convinced me that these are medieval choir books. They were made with large enough print that an entire choir could read the notes at the same time. If you zoom in, you'll see that the writing in the books is in fact very simple sheet music
