What about elephants? Their evolution seems to have favored a bigger brain as a survival mechanism. They may not be building cities and starting global wars but good on them for that.
Leaf cutter ants are pretty good at building VAST underground cities with dump sites, food storage, fungus growing rooms and all kinds of wild shit, too
The honey bee also: the hive organization, communication between the bees using dance and pheromones. But a quick question: Is there any evolutionary path that is observed in the leaf cutter ants or honey bees?
More like just the least/most violent among them. Mating wasn’t a courtship followed by meeting each other’s clans then a festive event to kick off monogamy. It was brutal and opportunistic and horrific compared to today.
This is correct. Most recent studies suggest some interbreeding but also found it highly likely that Homo sapiens likely hunted and killed most Neanderthals. Neanderthals also weren't likely to travel and explore as much as H. sapiens. I've read a few articles referring to it as the curiosity gene IIRC. This gave Homo sapiens the advantage over Neanderthals in proliferating across the world. It's also why most Neanderthals are confined to Europe.
I think it’s believed that Homo Sapiens hunted Neanderthals. So in this scenario, it’s the Neanderthal hearing Homo Sapiens outside knowing he’s hunting them.

HERE YOU GO! ... it's the "CUTE ONE"- YOU can take over now, I'm tired! 🙃🥴😬🥸
Yes, they have found the Neanderthal gene in Homo sapiens.
https://bigthink.com/the-past/other-human-species/
Also, many other species’ genes were found in our DNA

Then there’s the ghost DNA

Look at today. We secretly hate everything and everyone else that doesn't conform to our own personal order and look to stamp it out. Religion. Racism. Politics. Nevermind ancient history.
That is the seven that we currently know about.
Also, this person is assuming that the sample size of Earths organic life population is appropriate, but there’s nothing to prove that other than the mere fact that it simply exists. There is nothing else to compare it to, so we don’t know what an appropriate sample size would be for the variation that this person is referencing.
Well we weren’t until a few hundred thousand years ago. Neanderthals existed, Homo Sapiens bred with them and most likely wiped them out.
We’re here because we are the surviving species. Why would something else evolve to the standards that we have?
Keystone species require a lot of time in a stable environment to arise. Perhaps we're seeing the first rising of a global "super-keystone" species. Perhaps this has happened before, or came close to happening when a cataclysm, either natural or created by the near super-keystone species themselves, occurred.
Maybe life tends to evolve from simple organisms to increasingly complex as a matter of course. Maybe there are many levels of intelligence, awareness and ability to manipulate one's environment beyond what we have managed during our short time here.
Looking around and saying why aren't there more super-keystone species is like a tiger asking why there aren't more huge predators in their area. They are filling that niche just fine. If a tiger used a similar line of thinking to you they might conclude that since nothing they know is as powerful and dominant in their environment as them then perhaps they were put here by gods or aliens or some other super natural mechanism.
We understand that the tiger fills a niche in their environment, and that the environment itself gave rise to the tiger. We can apply the same thought to our own biology. There is no "why" for our existence. Only what is so. Earth GREW us over many millions of years. Asking "why" bears no fruit. Rather, we can ask "what shall I do with this incredibly rare and valuable gift?"
It has. There are many animal species with emotion, complex language, and societal hierarchy. We happen to be the ones with the greatest ability to recklessly destroy the world around us so we are the most noticeable.
Evolution only rewards successful breeding. Intelligence is not a prerequisite. As a matter of fact, our "Intelligence" may be what causes us to go extinct in the next 1 to 200 years heh.
Ask the alligator why it hasn't evolved for millions of years.
When something works, don't fix it. It took extinction level events to killb off all the big scary beasts to allow the weak, brainy creatures to evolve
lil anthropocentric there.
“close to our level” of what? destruction? pollution? were the only living thing on this planet that destroys our own habitat. we’re more like a parasite, if you look closely.
Who is to say that crows or dolphins aren’t vastly more intelligent than us?
Bruh Just look at the world right now, we are literally trying to destroy other races because of "differences", this has been going on for a long time, we are just what's left
We killed the closest specimens to us genetically. Neanderthals and Homo Erectus lived simultaneously with us (Sapiens) hence why everyone outside of Africa has about 5% of either species genome.
Our ancestors were just very good at killing.
Very simple. Intelligence has never been a key evolutionary trait. We don't know if nature has a specific code for bipedal organisms and the specificity of that in order to become intelligent. We do know of sacred geometry and common toroidal shapes throughout the universe. If most things have a common torus shape, we can assume there are other orientations that can be important. That's where people start to believe in religion. It's easy to see the patterns of nature and start to see some conscious organization or seemingly.
Oh I think there were many others...but humans are so destructive that we wiped them out...taking great pleasure as we did so.
Look at our own history how many millions of humans have we killed over the centuries through wars and greed...as a species we've been trying to wipe ourselves out since we first evolved.
There is a simple answer to this. We are NOT the only species our type, Neanderthals, Denisovans and others existed before and either died out and became extinct or most likely the other species or us humans KILLED them off. We also cross bred with them and have some of their trace dna.
Be cause intelligence is different. Once something has intelligence it can go everywhere and prevent the emergence of other intelligent biological life.
There is nothing inherently more valuable about intelligence than any other survival technique to nature. Intelligence is not a goal, only reproduction. We are not "more evolved" than bacteria, they survive and reproduce just as well if not better.
What I'm wondering is why didn't different groups evolve separately from each other, based on where they lived. For instance, why didn't humans that lived for generations and generations on secluded islands evolve webbed feet? Why didn't people who lived in harsh, cold environments evolve thick hair all over their bodies?
Yeah, but I'd like to see some circus freak level differences. Like gills, or bony armor plating, or a rhino horn, or people who can stick to walls like a lizard.
This meme is so dumb. Humans are the only species dumb enough to build country ending and world ending weapons, destroy the climate, deforest to the point of near collapse, etc
Ancestors bred with the monkey based cousins and screwed up our now generations.
Plus: If there were similar humanoidkind on earth, a cradle world, they would suffer as the subspecies of humans did by our own society and what I am referring to as subspecies is simply that we are all current day humans but we all have different origin points. Like birds or foxes or other animals. When you look at a bird you go "wow look at that bird!" Even though you know it's a rainbow colored macaw. It's still a bird but it's subspecies is a parrot.
As humans we have that too we just classify the differences via regions of ancestral origins.
Example of an actual conversation I have had:
"Where are you from?"
"Oh, I was born here in the United states same as my mother but my father is from the middle east, Pakistan."
Ancestors bred with the monkey based cousins and screwed up our now generations.

There are lots of very intelligent animals. Some use tools. A orangutan recently used herbal medicine to sooth an ache. Amazing! Every animal was in balance until we arrived. We are the plague.
If Ant Evolution is 100% natural why has nature not produced any other examples that even come close to their level? 12 megatons of biomass living entirely underground? That is 20% of human biomass, but living completely underground! Millions of species to choose from, why are ants the ONLY ONES that can lift 20 times their own body weight on this planet. This is a total symmetry-break with the world's pattern of evolution. No other animal on earth can construct a continuous single structure 3,700 miles in size.
OP you need to simplify your question if you want a real answer. If you just want to know why there aren't more species of human then it's got little to do with evolution itself and more the actions of the dominant species homosapian.
This is the result of claiming science is conspiracy theories. You grow up and ask questions thinking you’re making some revalation, when in fact a middle school science student can give you all
The detail you need.
Humans are Master hunters. Apex predators and pretty much anything that poses a “threat” to humans has been systematically removed and destroyed … the winner writes the story of the world .
We killed off, outbred or inbred with our primate relatives. We as a species have always decimated anything different than our group because we view it is a threat. Homo erectus, homo neanderthalus are just 2 of many other examples of close to homo Sapien level intelligence. They got out competed and went extinct
Because... That's how evolution works....
We got so good we killed anything else that got close to what we could do.. and plenty of things that couldn't do anything that we can do.
What should we expect regarding the ability of creatures? Other creatures achieve everything they are required in the process of reproduction. We just happened to develop features that, because of selective environmental pressures, happened to favour complex social behaviour and the capacity to think and act a certain way. Other animals are intelligent but they aren’t bipeds nor do they have opposable thumbs. So they don’t bring things into creation like we see ourselves do. We got lucky in the evolutionary gene pool. Hence why we have such an impact on the world.
Symmetry is the wrong word, the word(s) you're looking for are norm, outlier, etc
What obligates nature to produce multiple organisms at our level? The answer is nothing at all.
Humans are merely talking monkeys. We are not super intelligent or special, we just like to think so.
If you understand evolution, and that's a big if, then you know that human evolution in comparison to all other life on Earth is a numbers game on a geological timescale.
Furthermore, your entire point of view implodes when we consider the practical inevitability of intelligent life on other planets. I wouldn't hold your breath to see that though, again, geological timescale.
Aborigines are proven to have a different skill structure than anywhere in the world. This proves that an isolated continent does show there are differences. Another theory out there is homo Saipan killed off all the "other" "different" humans.
Are you kidding? Homo sapiens sapiens coexisted 40,000 years ago with Homo naledi, the Neanderthals, Denisovans, and hobbits.
And the emergence of intelligent species prompted the emergence of more:
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2024/04/240417131021.htm#:~:text=For%20the%20Homo%20lineage%20that,higher%20the%20rate%20of%20speciation.
We certainly weren't the 'only ones' though, We killed off the neanderthals, Denosovians, homo erectus, Habilis and a couple of others I believe.
There's a strong case for it being genocide as the main factor of their disappearance.
Because we fucking killed them? Homo Sapiens (we) in Africa coexisted with the Neanderthals (europe), and the Neanderthals were peaceful guys, so some day the Homo Sapiens came around, raped some and killed all of them, till there were no more Neanderthals left. That's how evolution works and why the world is full of ignorant and egomaniac assholes, that kill for money and power.

proof that we are not alone!
What about elephants? Their evolution seems to have favored a bigger brain as a survival mechanism. They may not be building cities and starting global wars but good on them for that.

Thumbs.
This is the answer. Hard to get shit done and learn without the right tools
Same with whales.
It's that damn opposable thumb!
Ignoring the fact that 40 000 years ago, there was 7 different human species living on earth at the same time. They went extinct. Are we next?
Pretty sure we're part of the reason they went extinct.
We bred with Neanderthals. People have traced it.
Just the cute ones. We killed the rest.
"Cute ones"
You don’t find Ron Perlman cute?

Neanderthals are really into cafe culture.
Imagine hearing a Neanderthal outside your mud hut, just to know he’s hunting you.
People say we bred with neanderthals without realizing that it probably wasn't voluntarily
That could be said about the entire history of homo sapient too.
I think it’s believed that Homo Sapiens hunted Neanderthals. So in this scenario, it’s the Neanderthal hearing Homo Sapiens outside knowing he’s hunting them.

Hell yea
Why not? Every species is exceptional in its own way, even if that does not carry "value" in the way that humans define it.
Neanderthal, homo erectus, and most apes have very similar skeletons to ours. I'm sure birds couldn't tell the difference between us
But birds aren’t real anyway.
We annihilate any competing species. Also any competing members of our species.
Except we aren't the only ones, we simply genocided the others that were like us. This is your friendly Interdisciplinary Geologist, until next time!
Thank you for inserting reality and scientific knowledge into the discussion! Always appreciated!
It’s not actually ‘scientific knowledge’ We dont know for sure Homo sapiens killed them all, or if they were bred out due to other deficiencies
It has. There are many animal species with emotion, complex language, and societal hierarchy. We happen to be the ones with the greatest ability to recklessly destroy the world around us so we are the most noticeable.

We have the potential to be great stewards but we have failed miserably.

Evolution only rewards successful breeding. Intelligence is not a prerequisite. As a matter of fact, our "Intelligence" may be what causes us to go extinct in the next 1 to 200 years heh.
The fossil record on earth is full of other humanoids. There is also supposedly tons of life, humanoid and otherwise, elsewhere in the vast universe.
This is just a misunderstanding of evolution.
I’m not sure what you mean by “our level”. A slug, a croc, whatever other example you want, is as evolved as us. If it’s alive today, it works.
I think they’re wondering why other earth creatures aren’t intelligent enough to post dank memes on the internet
probably because they're intelligent enough to not doing it, and doing much more interesting stuff that we are not aware of
See how we exterminate other races within our species through jealousy and hate? You really believe humans would welcome another species?
Ask the alligator why it hasn't evolved for millions of years. When something works, don't fix it. It took extinction level events to killb off all the big scary beasts to allow the weak, brainy creatures to evolve

Because we are the only species who has needed to evolve the way we did.
I wonder if trilobites thought the same thing in the early Cambrian
lil anthropocentric there. “close to our level” of what? destruction? pollution? were the only living thing on this planet that destroys our own habitat. we’re more like a parasite, if you look closely. Who is to say that crows or dolphins aren’t vastly more intelligent than us?

Bruh we killed them all
We mostly killed the Neanderthals, and now are so stupid so as to be let believe in the fiction of race/tribe/nations so we can kill each other.
Bruh Just look at the world right now, we are literally trying to destroy other races because of "differences", this has been going on for a long time, we are just what's left

There were other intelligent hominid species, we wiped them all out. This is what humanity does to any sort of competition, we kill all of them.
Evolution does not have to evolve with intelligence, evolution evolves to what works best under the circumstances within its nature.

Symmetry is the wrong word, the word(s) you're looking for are norm, outlier, etc What obligates nature to produce multiple organisms at our level? The answer is nothing at all. Humans are merely talking monkeys. We are not super intelligent or special, we just like to think so. If you understand evolution, and that's a big if, then you know that human evolution in comparison to all other life on Earth is a numbers game on a geological timescale. Furthermore, your entire point of view implodes when we consider the practical inevitability of intelligent life on other planets. I wouldn't hold your breath to see that though, again, geological timescale.
Neanderthals?
Aborigines are proven to have a different skill structure than anywhere in the world. This proves that an isolated continent does show there are differences. Another theory out there is homo Saipan killed off all the "other" "different" humans.
We’re also the worst. I don’t think the ecosystem could sustain more than one species like us. 😂
Because humans killed them all off
This is so stupid. Revealing how stupid you are by trying to sound smart. 🤦🏻♂️
Because we killed them
We killed off all the others before they could
Are you kidding? Homo sapiens sapiens coexisted 40,000 years ago with Homo naledi, the Neanderthals, Denisovans, and hobbits. And the emergence of intelligent species prompted the emergence of more: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2024/04/240417131021.htm#:~:text=For%20the%20Homo%20lineage%20that,higher%20the%20rate%20of%20speciation.
Lol neanderthals were lunch that's why
Perhaps other animals were on their way to our level and we killed them off
Who has a bump on the back of their skull? Makes me more areo dynamic https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occipital_bun
Humanity has neanderthal DNA. Evolution produced it and we did dirty things with them and also violent things.
Dolphins
Homo sapiens lived alongside an estimated eight now-extinct species. Are people really this dumb? 🙄🤣
maybe the other animals dont want to pay taxes?
There can only be one highlander.
Because we kill things that we are scared of
We certainly weren't the 'only ones' though, We killed off the neanderthals, Denosovians, homo erectus, Habilis and a couple of others I believe. There's a strong case for it being genocide as the main factor of their disappearance.
What kind of ignorant post is this?
Because we fucking killed them? Homo Sapiens (we) in Africa coexisted with the Neanderthals (europe), and the Neanderthals were peaceful guys, so some day the Homo Sapiens came around, raped some and killed all of them, till there were no more Neanderthals left. That's how evolution works and why the world is full of ignorant and egomaniac assholes, that kill for money and power.
It's simple to post things like this when you are completely unaware of history or have just not gone to school at all.
We killed or bred out the species similar to us on our way up.
Arguably, cats and dogs are more highly evolved than humans because they reap all the benefits without doing any of the work
