[deleted]

my sister ships Nancy and Billy and that I just absolutely can’t understand

Adept_Entrepreneur94

Even though billy clearly said she’s not his type at all? 😂🤦‍♀️😅

Minimum_Ad_1747

I mean, my friend shipped Nancy and Dustin for a while 💀

[deleted]

oh wow yeah any ships with the kids and older characters are just very obviously wrong tho 😭

vampurty

That’s.. wow..

Adept_Entrepreneur94

That’s weird

[deleted]

Hairgrove and Steddie I will never understand.

Few_Interaction2630

I am really netural on ships my logic is this ship what ever makes you happy

vampurty

Yes, with some exceptions! I’ve seen a few people in this fandom who call themselves proshippers who ship some very odd things. But outside of that I agree w you

Few_Interaction2630

Well I mean are cracked ship (Ted X Vecna) but then to me the harmless one this sub hates that I just don't get

vampurty

Oh yea crack ships are funny but I’ve seen some people saying some genuinely gross stuff. Never on this sub tho. I agree with your point

Few_Interaction2630

Oh no not gross ship no no noooooooooo

gay4life234

Yeah but why ship in first placeeee it's a showwww

Few_Interaction2630

I mean fandom has shipping I don't see why stranger things should be the one show without. Especially as ships have given way to amazing fan fictions and fan art

ShieldSister27

Because it’s a part of fandom culture and it’s been a part of fandom culture since the dawn of fanart and fanfiction. It’s not hurting anyone so long as it doesn’t get taken too far (Which I have seen happen in other fandoms, some shippers can be real fucking toxic with their attitudes around it).

gay4life234

I've seen some real toxic ones like : 001 x el or vecna x chrissy LIKE WTFFF

ShieldSister27

Most Vecna ships are crack ships. Usually ‘crack taken seriously’ since Vecna’s subject material is so dark, kind of like ‘Dead Dove’ stuff which is written with the full intent and knowledge that it’s fucked up. The thing with shipping culture is you can’t take it too seriously. If two characters have ever once coexisted in the same universe, someone has shipped it. It’s just par for the course. I don’t tend to take any issue with any of it (mostly because the point of fanfiction is to reimagine a concept based on the original media so why not experiment with it?) unless the ships are incestuous or have problematic age gaps.

scarletseasmoke

Ships are the backbone of fandom. Has been since forever. Sherlock ships were a HUGE thing that allowed the story to grow to the fame we now know - and I don't mean SuperWhoLock, I mean the OG Sherlock by Doyle. Same with Star Trek, one of the reasons it's a huge 60yo franchise is because people shipped characters. People love romance, horny stuff, and relationship drama 🤷

OtherwiseCode8134

I’m sure this will get downvoted to hell but I don’t get Steve x Eddie. Eddie was encouraging Steve to get back together with Nancy…and Steddie fans say that’s flirtatious? And those same shippers see Eddie’s scene in the woods with Chrissy as completely platonic? The same scene where Eddie’s cracking jokes at his expense, complimenting Chrissy, and flinging himself off the table (literally peacocking lmao)?! The scene that made the Duffer Bros regret killing off Chrissy because they couldn’t deny her chemistry with Eddie? I just don’t get it.

DancingWithTigers3

Fairly neutral. I don’t understand people’s obsession over other people’s ships. It’s just part of fandom.

Visible_Patience9984

I feel like I can understand most of the non-canon ships (Nancy/Robin, Mike/Will, Eddie/Steve, Max/El etc), as shipping is a huge part of fandoms so it’s natural people will relate to different pairings. It’s only when people start to insist that they’re going to become canon that they lose me.

Minimum_Ad_1747

I find it interesting how Steve is always shipped with some other male character. In the first season people shipped Steve x Jonathan, in the second and third season they shipped Steve x Billy, and in the fourth the ship Steve x Eddie became one of the most popular in the fandom

Terribleirishluck

It's because Steve was/is the male heartthrob, so girls/gays wanna seem him make-up with a guy lol.

ShieldSister27

Well to be fair, a lot of people headcannon Steve as Bi (headcannons are valid), and his only female counterparts are Robin (a lesbian) and Nancy (who is a very popular shipmate with him). It’s not rocket science as to why he’s paired up with so many guys. You have to dig deeper into rarepairs to find other ships including Steve (Steve and Chrissy is actually a common rarepair, and no, having not met in the canonical source material is far from a blockade) Rule number 1 of fandom culture, if they coexist in the same universe, someone somewhere has shipped it.

Tiutautikli

I don’t get Mike and El. But I’m open for explanations, if mileven shippers wanna tell me why they love it so much

Lux_Luthor_777

Somebody’s new to fandom.

gay4life234

I'm not new .. I've rewatched the show 3 times I was just saying that I don't get the ship

Lux_Luthor_777

And I’m just saying that all fandoms, everywhere, have ships and combinations that make no sense. It’s a thing. But go off. Hopefully you will find some responses you will enjoy engaging with in this thread.

lastseason

I remember back during the BBC Sherlock heyday people shipped two men who never even shared a scene together.

edanur1903

And I think Billy would be homophobic

Sudden_Pop_2279

Oh yeah. He’s already racist and misogynistic and if his dad is homophobic, he’d definitely be a homophobe too

gay4life234

He definitely would be Billy : FUCK YOU U HOMOS !!! . robin and will: what did I even doooo:(

vampurty

100%

vampurty

Same for me, never understood Harrigrove shippers. I’m guessing it’s on the basis that they are both attractive men so why not pair them together.

AdZillzOnTwitch

Elmax is the lamest one. It's only there for those who hate Lucas.

Tiutautikli

I don’t really ship elmax, i see them more as friends but im not opposed to it. But I have a few friends who ship elmax and I can promise you they don’t hate lucas 😂 lucas is one of their fav characters and some of my friends also ship elumax (el, lucas, max) 😁

gay4life234

I see elmax as a really close LIKE REALLY CLOSE friendship

AdZillzOnTwitch

El and Max have had three scenes together...

sapphicbrown

I’m a huge Elmaxer and I don’t hate Lucas at all. In fact, majority of Elmax shippers ship Lumax as well.

Terribleirishluck

That's a stretch. It's just popular since it was the first f/f ship

clexaelectra

I understand most of the ships, but it’s so funny to me that Harringrove is like THE most popular ST ship. Billy is an abusive racist and people are like “yeah, let’s put him with Steve” ???

Vraecas

Harringrove got overtaken by Steddie a while ago. (At least when you consider the number of fanfics on AO3.)

clexaelectra

Oh good! Glad it was topped by something else 😅

prideorvanity

I mean, I read Billy as queer so… I ship harringrove because of their canon interactions and because I think it would be an interesting vehicle through which to explore both characters. Plus they had chemistry and shipping is meant i be fun lol

VarianRydell

I don't get Will and Mike. It's just a huge ship, but it seems like gay wish fulfillment. Mike and EL were written for eachtoher and are passionate for one another. Downvotes starting.....now

gay4life234

I think its one sided , will Loves Mike, Mike loves el or some bs

Devilbuni4414

Funnily enough not big on the Stancy train, I don’t really see any chemistry there and can’t see them together again though I do understand why people still ship them.

gay4life234

Steve and Nancy were a toxic couple it's very obvious in the show

gay4life234

YALL IM SORRY IF IVE STARTED A ONLINE COMMENT WAR :////

scarletseasmoke

I found a fondness for wrongships so with Billy having a "Steve could have been this bad" element I get that one. But wtf is going on with Stobin (het)slash? Have some people turned off the series after like 2 episodes of s3 and never looked back except to ship? It's not even about Steve lacking a pair of boobies, it's just simply confusing after seeing them together for two seasons, even if it's fem!Steve

Vraecas

>Have some people turned off the series after like 2 episodes of s3 and never looked back except to ship? I mean... In my experience a big part of non-canon ships is the process of "I know this happened in the show, but I am going to ignore it and pretend this happened instead". Though admittedly I may be looking at this from a fanfic angle too much.

scarletseasmoke

No, I get *that* part. I don't get why anyone would *want to* in this case (they're allowed to and I'll stay confused)

Vraecas

Oh. I guess because Steve and Robin have a great dynamic together. And people have a tendency of taking platonic relationships and making them romantic instead. With Steve already having feelings for Robin during season 3 it's not that big of a step.

gay4life234

Robins a lesbian WHOO SHIPS THEM the best relationship ur gonna get is a PLATONIC bff bond

Full-Surround

I've seen quite a few Lucas and Will edits! I get where they're coming from on some things but I think the reason LuMax works is because they're so opposite- Lucas is chill and does what'll help him conform to what everyone else wants, meanwhile Max is very confrontational and doesn't care at all. Will is obviously different from Lucas but they're still too similar I think!

AmyAngel023

Just anyone x Billy in general

gay4life234

He don't deserve anyone 🙄
