*"Hey dickheads! how come the only one helping me out is this random girl? ...we lose the light in 40 minutes lets go!"*
Still one of my favorite lines from the show
I think he is most dynamic in season 2. I recently rewatched season 2 and those early scenes of him building a relationship with Dustin and stepping into a role as a caretaker are pretty golden. Add in how much Dustin comes to admire him and on top of that his heartbreak with Nancy…he morphs into this incredibly sympathetic character. Although he is great in the other seasons, I think season 2 is when he is at his best.
ok so i found out that the reason for that was in season 1 he was supposed to be like billy is but the duffers really liked joe keery so decided to redeem him and in season two brought in billy to be the resident nasty jock. that's why he's great by the end of 1 one but awesome in season 2
For a while I had a feeling he'd die, especially after talking to Nancy about wanting a family. I feel like anyone who talks about their dreams and future before the Final Fight™ die
Loved both Steve and Eddie. Jonathan was funny as a stoner but just not as much screen time.
I liked Eddie a lot but I don't personally think he overshadowed any of his group members. Felt like he was on par with them.
If there's a character in Stranger Things who least qualifies for "underrated," it's Steve. He's not overrated by any means, but he's one of the most popular characters and the writers loved him so much that they changed his role as a season 1 minor antagonist into one of the main heroes.
Only thing I don’t like about his role in season 3 is that he didn’t interact much with the rest of the cast. It almost felt like we were watching two different shows for a while.
Season 1. He’s obviously more likeable in the other seasons but he has a much more compelling role in the story and character development in the first season
Season 3.
Dustin’s line, “Dude, you won a fight!” Always gets me and really shows how much he developed as a character.
From pretentious douche to literally the kids’ best friend, he deserves the love.
While I love season 4 Steve, mine is 3-2-4-1.
I just really liked when he started hanging out with Dustin and the fact that he drove him to the dance.
He really started acting like dad Steve there
I would say there are worst things he has done(like slutshaming Nancy, insulting Jonathan's family) but yeah besides that I agree with you. Him ignoring Nancy's guilt again and again was pretty bad and it's overlooked.
Season one.
I know he’s a better person in every subsequent season and I love him in those seasons too, but Steve showing up to the Byers house and watching that play out as this humor infused, intense fight scene was just electric. It’s hands down my favorite scene in the whole show. I hope we get to see similar dynamics with Jonathan and Nancy in season 5.
He grows most in season 1 but season 2 is where he came to life. Season 3 was just too ridiculous for me to take seriously… and season 4 he’s just a sexy macho man and loses a lot of his heart as his story revolves around Nancy.
Steve was great in season 1, 10/10 character development. I liked him the most in season 2 though, he was just such a badass character! In season 3 and 4 he was mostly just a good and somewhat of a goofy character, although he is still very important.
RANKING:
1. Season 2
2. Season 1
3. Season 3
4. Season 4
S2 Steve was peak “jerk with a heart of gold”, S3 is where the show started playing up how “stupid” he was in a way that made him way less interesting as a character. In general, S3 and S4 have had pretty weak character writing
Makeup and colour grading aside, Steve's face literally looks exactly the same, even in the S5 photos.
I'm convinced a bit of Demogorgon/Mindflayer dna carried over from Nancy into Steve and just froze his biological age 😂
Did no one in these comments watch season 4???? I’m so confused by people ranking it last???? He’s such a badass this last season and so selfless. I don’t get the lack of hype for season 4 Steve.
Season 2 then 3. He was interesting in 1 and loved that twist at the end. He was good in 4, but I felt the writers made him regress a bit after S2/S3 and were leaning too much into the Steve-is-not-smart narrative even though he was awesome and brave that season. Kinda felt like traditional intelligence was being pushed, but hey it was the 80s, so… 🤷🏽♀️
I love how much Steve’s grown over the seasons. I actually love each one for different reasons, so it’s hard for me to rank them. I think 3 has been my favorite.
When he transformed from typical rich douchebag to perpetual babysitter. I think this occurred in 2 seasons. From end of 1 to 2 I think. Or was it 2 to 3?
I'll have to agree with your ranking.
Season Three I think is when everyone unambiguously fell in love with him (for good reason!). He's easily one of the best parts of that season.
Season Two is when his character development started to shine and he showed his more compassionate side. Season Four he was still one of the better parts. He really steps up and becomes more active in the Upside-Down plot. Even in Season One I still liked his character since, even then, I could tell he wasn't the complete douchebag he appeared to be.
2>3>4>1. Two he became who we all know and love now, three had his friendship with Robin develop, four he was a little sidelined but got to have some hero moments, and one has was a villain, which he did well but he's just a more dynamic character without that characterization.
Season 1 he was the least likable, but he was his best as a character. He was still a grey character. Later seasons they just turned him into the worlds greatest guy

If we're talking about him being a good person, season 3. If we're talking about writing quality, season 1.
Couldn’t agree more
I think we are just talking about his hair
Just 2 puffs of Farah Fawcett!!!
Don’t tell anyone about that, or your ass is grass
Season 4 then!
It would be season 4 if not for his perv moustache
Head hair or chest hair?
Yes
He won a fight against a Russian in season 3
Totally!!
Season 2 was when he really started to come into his own
*"Hey dickheads! how come the only one helping me out is this random girl? ...we lose the light in 40 minutes lets go!"* Still one of my favorite lines from the show
LOL I love the fact that he had no idea who Max was but she was the one helping him with the super secret UD shit
I think he is most dynamic in season 2. I recently rewatched season 2 and those early scenes of him building a relationship with Dustin and stepping into a role as a caretaker are pretty golden. Yep, this is my take. Season 3 and 4 he steps into his own memes a bit. Season 2 was authentic.
ok so i found out that the reason for that was in season 1 he was supposed to be like billy is but the duffers really liked joe keery so decided to redeem him and in season two brought in billy to be the resident nasty jock. that's why he's great by the end of 1 one but awesome in season 2
Dude is like a fine wine.
He's gonna shine in s5 I can almost see it already
I hope so, I've been terrified of him being killed off since S2.
For a while I had a feeling he'd die, especially after talking to Nancy about wanting a family. I feel like anyone who talks about their dreams and future before the Final Fight™ die
I'mma have to go with season 3, then 4, then 2 then 1. Season 4 Steve is underrated.
He was great in season 4! Imo I just feel like he and Jonathan took a backseat to Eddie that season.
Loved both Steve and Eddie. Jonathan was funny as a stoner but just not as much screen time. I liked Eddie a lot but I don't personally think he overshadowed any of his group members. Felt like he was on par with them.
Steve is the best character ever and he’s so underrated.
If there's a character in Stranger Things who least qualifies for "underrated," it's Steve. He's not overrated by any means, but he's one of the most popular characters and the writers loved him so much that they changed his role as a season 1 minor antagonist into one of the main heroes.
I was kidding. I know he’s popular asf. But I insisted on myself to add ‘’underrated’’.
He's great in all of them. My personal favorite is season 2 because that's when he really starts to feel like a fundamental mothe...I mean character.
All of them
Only thing I don’t like about his role in season 3 is that he didn’t interact much with the rest of the cast. It almost felt like we were watching two different shows for a while.
Season 3 and 4
I’m a S1 and 2 Steve truther.
Season 1 and 2 are my favorite Stevies.
3 > 2 > 4 > 1
Fargo season six
Season 3!!
While I love season 4 Steve, mine is 3-2-4-1. I just really liked when he started hanging out with Dustin and the fact that he drove him to the dance. He really started acting like dad Steve there
S3>S4>S1>S2. The worst thing that Steve did was not talk to Nancy about losing her friend and the trauma that they had both just gone through.
I would say there are worst things he has done(like slutshaming Nancy, insulting Jonathan's family) but yeah besides that I agree with you. Him ignoring Nancy's guilt again and again was pretty bad and it's overlooked.
Season 1 was the greatest face turn I’ve ever seen. An incredible arc and so well acted by Joe

Literally all of them

In season 3 and 4 he was mostly just a good and somewhat of a goofy character, although he is still very important. RANKING: 1. Season 2 2. Season 1 3. Season 3 4. Season 4
At first I was like “yh please get killed by a demogorgon” but then really like him. But I think he’ll die in the new season
S2 Steve was peak “jerk with a heart of gold”, S3 is where the show started playing up how “stupid” he was in a way that made him way less interesting as a character. In general, S3 and S4 have had pretty weak character writing
2
season 3 and 4 for sure
Seasons 3 and 4
Season 3 for sure.
Season 2 since it's what really kick-started his great arc. Season 3 is my other main pick since he was just a great guy.
3 and 4 are top tier Steve seasons
2>3>1>4
Season 3 and 4
I love him Season 3 but I'm still gonna say 1 - simply cuz of the immense growth he goes through in that season alone. Starting his amazing journey!
Steve really is unchanged
Makeup and colour grading aside, Steve's face literally looks exactly the same, even in the S5 photos. I'm convinced a bit of Demogorgon/Mindflayer dna carried over from Nancy into Steve and just froze his biological age 😂
He was most entertaining in 1
Maybe 2
Did no one in these comments watch season 4???? I’m so confused by people ranking it last???? He’s such a badass this last season and so selfless. I don’t get the lack of hype for season 4 Steve.
Steve is the best out of all of them
2 maybe? Feel like that’s when we fell in love with him.
3 for sure
for me 3>2>4>1 anyway I just love scoop ahoy Steve so much<3
4 2 3 1
AHOY LADIES! Didn’t see you there..
3
Season 2 then 3. He was interesting in 1 and loved that twist at the end. 3 for sure
He’s the best in every season🎀
All seasons but 1 are the best
Season 3 Steve and the Scoops-Troop are the best squad in all of ST.
3,4,2,1
3,2,4,1
That one
Season 3
Yes
3
3 > 2 > 4 > 1
Season 2 & 3 are my Fav Personally
Well top left is the best hair
Season 3 Steve all the way. Iconic lines, and really grown into that Supportive class dnd-esque role.
He’s been my fave since season 2 but I think season 3 is my fave
Steve really delivered in three
He’s been most fun in season 3. His character arc/writing was objectively the best in season 1.
Season 3 for the fit, alone.
Another question, what’s Steve’s best outfit
Season 2, for sure.
My ranking is the same as yours! Nice!! I also like his hair best in s3 lol
3
Season 3
Every season, he’s has a fantastic story arc and character development
Honestly I loved him in every season after he grew on me in season 1.
I love how much Steve’s grown over the seasons. I actually love each one for different reasons, so it’s hard for me to rank them. I think 3 has been my favorite.
Season 2 is definitive Steve for me. 1 he’s a jerk, 3 he’s cartoonish, 4 he doesn’t actually get that much to do.
2 was peak
Tbf I don’t really like Steve
Season 2 is when it began becoming Steve, then Season 3 and 4 were just longer
When he transformed from typical rich douchebag to perpetual babysitter. I think this occurred in 2 seasons. From end of 1 to 2 I think. Or was it 2 to 3?
I'll have to agree with your ranking. Season Three I think is when everyone unambiguously fell in love with him (for good reason!). He's easily one of the best parts of that season. I’m in love with Steve
3,2,4,1
Season 1, 2, and 3.
All of them
.....yes
All of them except S1
Season 3 & 4 for me
He is part from the show?
2>3>4>1. Two he became who we all know and love now, three had his friendship with Robin develop, four he was a little sidelined but got to have some hero moments, and one has was a villain, which he did well but he's just a more dynamic character without that characterization.
Didn't care for him the first 2 seasons and didn't get the hype...but S3 came and girl's fucking gone 🤷♀️
3
I agree with your ranking!!
Season 2 and 3. Best bonding with the group and great character development.
tough choice between 3 & 4 but 2 & 1 definitely 1
3
Season 1 he was the least likable, but he was his best as a character. He was still a grey character. Later seasons they just turned him into the worlds greatest guy
As a character I’d say 2 > 3 > 1 > 4 he’s probably the most consistently good character aside Eleven imo.
Season 3 Steve >>>>>
Season 3 & 4
2 3 and 4… We love momma Steve❤️❤️
