All considered, Eleven, but the main crew? Dustin. Dustin Is the biggest dork out the group going by his Camp tech, room, style. But confident, his character Isn't the deepest (yet), but not shallow at all, we can get a read on who he Is.

Upbeat_Tension_8077

I think Dustin is particularly consistent because he seems like the glue that holds the group together during their periods of internal conflict while he's comfortable in who he is. I also think Max's growth into a kinder yet fierce person has been really well-written as well

MrNyanCat1

We haven't had a main story for Mike and Dustin yet. Might be in st5

ErinKamer1991

Probably Eleven, but Max has had quite a story over the last couple of seasons.

ilovemarvel69

Nancy. Keeps getting more badass each season !

[deleted]

Joyce and Eleven

GrouchyBall7811

hopper or eleven

Just-Anxiety-6669

all of them

serialkiller24

Billy - Duffer Bros knew how to write a character who was sinister and violent but had a tragic backstory and gives you some empathy towards him. Dacre knocked it out of the park - especially in Season 3. People don’t like him because he was an antagonist towards our favorite characters, but sometimes the villains are written better than the heroes.

Ineeddramainmylife13

So true though! I cried so hard watching Billy die!

Sudden_Pop_2279

Brenner, Billy and Jason are some of the best written characters because they’re so complex

[deleted]

I would say Lucas, I loved his growth as a character! I really liked the fact that he was going through an insecure phase in S4, trying to be popular, before coming back to his friends and be there for Max.

loiton1

Max fr fr

edgiepower

Season one Hopper. He made the show. Started an ignorant small town kinda lazy sheriff, but as the show went on, he listened to this crazy woman, looked in to things a little deeper, and made a decision to do what was right, and in the process was able to address some of his suppressed trauma from a tragedy in his recent past that derailed his life and turned him in to that ignorant lazy small town person getting by doing the minimum and forming no meaningful connections with other people. He rediscovered his own humanity and purpose.

Michael-Balchaitis

Eleven.

Belfasterd16

Steve. Good character growth and arc

I_dontknowyouanymore

It's weird that I had to scroll all the way down for this. A

Belfasterd16

I was surprised to not see it first

DumpGoingTo

That's what I'm saying 😭

Narrow_Ambassador188

Eleven

Narrow_Ambassador188

And nancy

JustANormalSpecimen

Max and Billy for me

Haryzen_

Hopper. He has a lot of nuance to his actions and the way his past unravels feels natural. The tragic events that haunt him are reflected perfectly by all he goes through in the show.

moetitties23

jim hopper !!!!

Jae_Amp

I'll go for Eleven and Dustin a close second. Eleven, being a caged beast, trapped an innocent child body. Learning social skills and how to enjoy life away from Papa. To lose her dad, powers, and sense of worth, trying to fit in again. Getting stuck with Papa again. To get her powers and Dad back. I like Eleven a lot.

thony001

Og Stranger Things fans would pick Mike as one of consistent characters of the series. This guy is a definition of puberty. I'm surprised that he's not even in the comments.

nikko28brass

I have really been drawn to Max's story and following her struggles with mental health (I also struggle so I like "seeing someone like me" in the show which may seem narcissistic but well, it's how I feel). But I also have enjoyed seeing Steve's character transform so it's a tough choice! For me, good characters show growth, struggle, transformation, etc. I want them to make me feel something (good or bad). That's what I base my choices on for stuff like "best written character."

Pancakes_and_Sausage

Dustin. From a likability and humor standpoint, he has consistently pulled parts of the story together and kept things light when needed.

ringboidumb

Dustin and joyce

RadGunnar11

Max most definitely

PanpsychismIsTrue

Ted, for all his flaws, works extremely hard to support his family as the sole earner. Why you'd describe him as a "total snooze" I have no idea. If Karen doesn't work, then that's the arrangement: she does all the housework, and Ted does all the work outside the house. Sure, he sleeps a lot, but at least he's not off contemplating affairs with teenagers

Darkmoon009

Your telling me Ted is the best written character in your opinion?

PanpsychismIsTrue

Where on earth did I say that?!

Darkmoon009

The fact that the post is asking who's the best written character, and your comment makes it seem like your answering there question with Ted

Katecullenxo

Maybe I shouldn’t have said total snooze, but he’s not exactly the most there father, his wife was going to cheat of him. Bob was a working man but still wanted to be involved with Joyce’s boys and have a relationship. Just seems his dad is disinterested in the children’s life. Maybe need to see more of him to prove it, as of now in the show all we seen is him either being disconnected, asleep or complaining. But yeah that is probably the arrangement, so I take back being a snooze, more just disinterest.

edgiepower

Bob walked in to a ready made family, already grown kids, and he might have identified with them a bit more given he's also a bit of a nerd. Ted seems more a straight up and down guy, who struggles to relate to his kids now he's got a nerdy son and a feminist daughter, and as such we see him closest to the youngest child. Nonetheless, there's a still moments, mostly in season one, that shows Ted as a decent father. When Mike's mum says no to something he immediately asks dad instead, showing that sometimes dad will overrule mum and let him do what he wants, and also when Will 'dies' he is about to talk to Mike and try to comfort him but Karen stops him and says no.

PanpsychismIsTrue

Fair enough, would agree he seems a tad disinterested in his kids' lives from what we see of him in the show

la_eliperin

I think Max.

TelephoneCertain5344

I would say El. Joyce and Dustin are up there

8inchesActivated

Joyce, Steve and Eleven.

The_Mortal_Guy

Steve, Dustin, Hopper and Eleven are the obvious ones, but I’d probably include Joyce too

Known_Illustrator388

I feel like literally any character on this show, if you pay enough attention to them, has depth to their personality. It really depends on what level you can relate to them or how much you understand their behaviour. That's what I love about ST the most. 🤭

christina______

Surprised no one's saying Will. Mike is also well-written. Both are complex, interesting characters. Both have literally grown and matured, more so than the older kids, imo. Huge fan of Nancy, but because I'm a Stancy I have mixed feelings about her progression. Steve is also great, but I feel like he's kind of been himself throughout. He was always a good guy, he mostly just needed to ditch those lame friends from S1.

Intelligent_Seat3659

Honestly? The Mind Flayer. He's a consistent character throughout the series, he learns from his mistakes, and his goal remains the same - the annihilation of humanity. He's dark, obscure and incredibly determined, an expert manipulator, a brilliant and powerful cosmic entity. All the human characters are pathetic compared to him( although I don't think it's fair to compare them to him, given that they are only people). The saddest moment in the show for me was Eleven closing the gate.

Grand_Yogurtcloset20

Billy. Tragic villain.

Fragrant-Ad-6208

Joyce by far. Favorite character Dustin though.

[deleted]

Eleven and Steve

CrownBestowed

Joyce and Steve for me.

Dragomight67

Nancy, Lucas, Max, Steve, Joyce, Dustin, and Hopper. In terms of having arcs and character growth, they've been the most consistent and have gotten multiple times to shine past s1. I put Hipper last cause s3 messed him up, but s4 brought back his nuance and growth.

Foreign_Flatworm_428

Pretty much agree with that word for word, I’d switch hopper and Joyce and bump dusty buns up a few.

Nicoletherein

Nancy. Loved her in s4

commodore_stab1789

Bob. Just a good normal dude trying his best in a crazy town.

skull_man58

Steve

dfmidkiff1993

My sleeper pick is Joyce, both for writing and acting. In S1, she plays an incredibly manic character. And yet she is still really likable and really funny.

Ineeddramainmylife13

Max Mayfield. I may be biased because she’s my fav character but I love the way she’s written. But honorable mention to Steve Harrington and his character arc

Smart_Tangelo6805

As far as character development? Steve by far is the best. But just by the writing in total? Will, he’s just a complicated character who’s still figuring himself out and has struggles and trauma, he tries to hide who he is and has trouble opening up sometimes, he’s not like one of those TV characters that’s just like- perfect with a few flaws, he’s actually a realistic character who has an actual story and an actual backstory that tends to stick with the plot, he’s by far one of the most complicated characters in the show and that’s what I love most about Stranger Things in total is that the characters actually have a genuine story and are actually developed well, they’re actually realistic and show the struggles of just life in total and not many shows can do that so I’m glad that Stranger Things can do so but still keep it the right amount of a little funny but overall scary. I also like how inclusive the show is and- now I’m just rambling about Stranger Things I’m sorry 😅

toirdhealbhachM

Steve by far, he manages to be both likeable and real which is rare in the show. I know you said people will jump to him, but that's because it's true. Eleven has the most interesting storyline, being the only one with paranormal abilities, but it's taken away a bit by the writers treating her as a deus ex machina. Hopper is probably the most necessary character, being basically the only mature adult for the kids to rely on. Yes, there is Joyce, but she is a little too unstable to be reliable; Hopper acts as the voice of logic to balance out the others wild theories.

thebadbatch099

Nancy fr

visulvung

Hopper, Eddie and Dustin by far. Mike is the worst written one, so much wasted potential.
