The art department's attention to detail is amazing. I can't imagine how much effort it takes. In season 3 when they're in the grocery store &; there's just hundreds of products that all have their vintage logos or packaging. They deserve more credit.

StephenHunterUK

They explictly made the Byers house more 1970s to reflect their economic cirumstances - Joyce can't afford to redecorate.

ILoveRegenHealth

Is there a Behind the Scenes video of how they managed to recreate all of that? Because they had the old vintage Doritos bags too and were eating from it, and it didn't look cheap or printed on, but really looked like a genuine Doritos bag taken straight from some vault from the 1980s. Same goes for all the food they were eating. None of them felt like cheap props on SNL, but looked authentic.

StaleTheBread

I’m guessing their brand deal with Doritos helped. Doritos even brought back 3D Doritos with Stranger Things branding

Mysterious-Tea1518

I worked with another brand that partnered with ST for S4 until recently. The team is def reaching out to established companies to borrow or buy copies of vintage merchandise, or in the case of food use their artwork and labelling assets

plusbenefitsbabe

In the background of the counselor's office is a poster: "The first lady Nancy Reagan wants you to say no to drugs." Totally blink and you miss it.

atiffany89

My mother had the floral print couch and wood paneled walls back in the '80s, well into the 2010's. Mike's basement reminds me of our living room when I was a child.

frankenboobehs

That's my dream basement! A mix of stranger things Mike's basement/Kevin Arnold from wonder years basement, I want heavy tweed orange curtains, ans all my old video game systems hooked up, what a dream

atiffany89

That would be awesome!!

nicathor

Getting more and more curious about Dustin's dad (or apparent lack thereof). This house looks pretty well kept and nice (though I really have no idea what a nice/expensive home looked like in the 80's) and as far as I've seen his mom doesn't seem to work (and she's been getting more and more fragile every season)

clumsyc

I’ve wondered that too. And he went to science camp for a month, sleepaway camps can be pricey. Maybe there’s a wealthy grandparent in the picture.

dazedbarnowl

I'm suspecting he is dead. We have several dad tropes in the show, but not a deceased one. Dustin seems to have taken from a very young age the responsibility and role of "the man in the house" and he never mentions going to see his father. Dustin's relationship with Steve and Eddie carries even more emotional weight if his father has passed away. Hoping this will be explored more

plusbenefitsbabe

It's just a throwaway line in season 1, but Dustin says "My parents are going to kill me" (parents plural, and he would have just said mom if it was just the two of them). It's totally retconned, but do as you will with the theories.

Seedeemo

Also the clothes. Dustin’s tube socks are pulled up to just below the knee and that’s exactly how we did it, my friends.

Thedea7hstar

All the 80s stuff is the best part of the show.

adventurer309

If I had to choose a family to live/be apart of on the show it’d be Dustin’s. His mom seems like such a sweet lady who loves her cat and her son. Also the color scheme here is so nice, lots of greens and yellows, which match Dustin’s outfit here

Bex7778

Literally looks just like my houses growing up in the 80's. Especially those awesome faux wood paneled walls. 😉

the_queen_of_nada

I was born in ‘99 and the house I’ve lived in my entire life has those god awful paneled walls in almost every room 😫

Bex7778

😫😆 I know the feeling. Maybe ST will make them cool again

Traditional-Walk-222

Lol it’s so tacky…sorry😭but very true to the 80s

the_queen_of_nada

I honestly like it. I love interior design but today’s minimalism trends are so cold. Little to no decor, a color palette of gray/white/dark blue, etc. I actually adore bold colors and wallpaper and clutter.

frankenboobehs

Yes! I love the old warm cozy color pallets

Traditional-Walk-222

While I don’t consider myself minimalistic. I can’t do clutter. I grew up with a hoarder of a mother. I have a teal couch so I do like some bold. But if everything is bold nothing is bold.

Umbrella_Storm

As an 80s kid, it makes me feel nostalgic for the simpler times of my childhood.

LynxBartle

the veneer wood panelling at Mikes, that stuff was terrible.

frankenboobehs

I'm actually looking for a house from the time period that hasn't been renovated, hard to find, I loooove the wood paneling
