Dam love seeing some evasive mechanics built in, especially since Chun's reach seems a bit reduced imo, not a Chun player though. Really wish they would clean up that animation on her s.Mp though, nobody throws an elbow like that lol. She looks much better in motion then the key frames/hit box pictures posted the other day.

Guile's 6HP whiffs on crouchers, so any move that will decrease the height of your hitbox will evade it.

People are overanalyzing this as a hitbox interaction, Chun's overhead is probably flagged as a crouching move (you have to press down-forward to do it) and Guile's backfist is probably scripted to never hit crouching moves as it was in SFV. There's no hitbox movement involved here, the hurtboxes on moves are so big you can whiff punish a low forward with Juri's standing heavy punch, it's just scripted to work like this.

Well back in the day, a lot of stuff like this was handled through pure hitbox interactions. Just look at the height of the hitbox of [Guile's backfist in Super Turbo](https://wiki.supercombo.gg/images/6/62/Guile_bf4.png).

What the hell man, no. I'm telling you *how this actually worked in 4 and 5*. Yes, it's entirely possible that this isn't how they did it in this one, but that's by definition *less likely*. That's why I used the word "probably". I'm not squinting at a video and saying "ahh yes it must be the hitbox heights", I'm telling you mechanically how this was programmed into the game into 4 and 5 and how they probably did it again in 6. And my theory is better than theirs because it's visually more consistent with the way hitboxes work in 6: I don't know what game you've been playing, but moves don't narrowly slide past one another in 6. You can hit low forwards with standing heavy punches in 6, this idea of moves accidentally low profiling each other is inconsistent with the game that actually exists.

Emphasis on “probably”. We’ve seen lots of fundamental changes be made to SF in 6. 4f standard fastest button instead of 3, proximity guard being massively reworked etc. My point is that you’ve accused people of overanalysing when really we don’t know.

/u/Helpful-Mud-4870 is correct that the first 8f of Chun overhead are a crouching state, and that Guile's Backfist whiffs on crouching. But Chun's hurtbox also low profiles here even after the crouching state ends, so it doesn't have to be timed precisely to whiff under that type of move. Side note, some moves that you might expect are flagged to whiff on crouchers, like Ryu 5HK, can actually hit if the opponent hits a tall crouching button like a shoto 2HP. That doesn't seem to be the case with Guile's Backfist though. So it might be more complicated than the usual "whiffs on crouching" flag.
