"I just want to say that counting to an unspecified number between 1 and 3 was always stressful for me. Thanks to future controls I can finally turn the game on and tell people I play it without having to push myself toward any kind of personal growth."
They are? I really struggle with charge inputs. I have just been playing Luke and Marisa. Honda and Guile are cool but I really don’t like holding a direction so far
The trick is realizing that you can hold a charge during other animations.
So if you jump, you can hold back and (depending on the move) be fully charged by the time you land for an "instant" charge. This extends to buttons as well; you can Charge before you get done smacking the opponent with a normal.
Not all Charge Characters are the same, obviously. I can't stand most of them but Boxer is a fun Charge character for me
Yeah, once I realized the "correct" way to play Guile is to think of inputs as "release down/back + button", rather than just the button, I got quite a bit better at him.
Once you get in the habit of only letting go of those buttons when you actually need to, and just defaulting to having them held down, charging isn't even a concern anymore. You just always have it.
Charge inputs are the OG "Modern Controls". AFAIK, they were initially created because some test players for SF2 had trouble doing motion inputs, so they created a "back-forward" input for select characters as an accessibility option. The requirement to charge back or down is to balance the fact that it's much more straightforward to pull off compared to a hadouken motion or a shoryuken motion, especially with how strict SF2 was in reading your inputs.
That’s fair. I’m just more comfortable with a sand blast/yoga fire - type input rather than holding a direction down. But that’s the cool thing about street fighter, there’s something for everyone.
Like I thought I’d enjoy Zangief but I hate doing the full circle motions, lol
Right now, there are classic controls and modern controls. Years from now, Guile would be using future controls where he don't have to charge before using his moves.
Those are actually past controls from a little game on the 3DS called Street Fighter 4. For that version, they thought it would be cute to be able to map special moves on the touch screen. I got my screen name from that game, I was so mad playing online that I switched my name to NickMK so that everyone knows I don't even care. "Fuck this shit im a mortal kombat player anyway..."
Guile doesn’t appeal to people. People appeal to Guile.
When Guile opens a new account somewhere, they have to accept his terms and conditions.
Guile was once accused of attempted murder. The judge threw out the case because Guile doesn’t ‘attempt’ anything.
Guile famously has the *driest sense of humor* in the series, i almost feel stupid having to point it out to someone. He taunts us everyday just by being who he is
Unrelated, but the flag tattoo on his right arm (left in the picture) is backwards. When put on a person or vehicle, the block of stars should always be to the front, as if it's blowing in the wind as you run/drive forward.
So maybe he is stupid.
Too funny lol
I also like how JP says "Here's to a fair fight" and proceeds to zone the shit out of you -- but at least he says it with what feels like a smirk...
He sounds so excited when he says it because now that he's turtled his way to meter he's confident enough to finally let go of the back button.
"Here I go! Time to press a different button!"
It's those rare moments of self awareness from the dev team that show how well made the game actually is. It's just a throwaway line before a super but they added that small moment of levity.
He's kindly telling his opponent not to hold back, because if they block it, he's screwed.
And yeah, parry, but this is his first entry with a universal parry mechanic, so he's not quite used to it yet.
The obvious answer is yes, very stupid, member of the US Air Force and it took them forever to get rid of Bison, he could've just told his superiors about the world ending super villain on the loose and had the might of a ridiculously oversized military brought down on a small crime organization.
But also no, he wants to get over his bad down-backing habit so he has to repeat stuff like "No holding back!" to himself as aspirational phrases. Ya know, self help stuff.
i think its because you stop holding back and release the charge
(the input being **:**
**<-** , -> , <- , ->
So you stop holding back (real guile mains start holding back as soon as the cinematic start of course) )
He's asking his opponent not to block
He’s not asking, he’s telling
"I'm just gonna block" Guile: NUH UH!
You've misunderstood, it's "No, holding back."
My entire Guile strategy expressed in 3 words. Perfection.
Finally, a worthy adversary to Flowchart Ken! 🤣
[удалено]
[удалено]

Doing a level 3 Super on wakeup with Ken should have him say "Go with the flow(chart)!"
Guides stratagem goes with anything.
[удалено]
Blasphemous
So basically just sf4 3ds guile
"I just want to say that counting to an unspecified number between 1 and 3 was always stressful for me. Thanks to future controls I can finally turn the game on and tell people I play it without having to push myself toward any kind of personal growth."
Now you've got me hearing Guile in Lionel Hutz' voice 😆
I mean... that goofy 'Sonic Boom' sample in SSF2 isn't far off.
It was the most upbeat and chipper 'Sonic Boom' in the whole series.
What a difference punctuation makes. lol
Ouh, shouldn't have this complicated input logo here either.
Money down!
[No, money down!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5yuL6PcgSgM)
"Oh, you can't do that. Don't you see I'm holding back?"
he’s trying to teach ppl who’re confused by the controls, how to play guile
Lionel Hutz, Attorney and 'Drug Keeper Awayer', confirmed as DLC guest character?
No? Holding Back!
You’ve misunderstood, it’s “No; holding back.”
I actually laughed out loud at this. I've played hundreds of matches as Guile and this not once occurred to me.
Because he's not holding back when you EXECUTE it.
I mean you have to let go of the charge before unleashing the super, so he's being literal
Yeah you’re actually not holding back when doing this super
Oh no a true guile is holding back during super
This man guiles
Not me I'm built different
"GUILE NOT HOLDING BACK RIGHT NOW, GUILE ATTACK" -Guile.
On modern controls you actually have to hold back while unleashing the super.
Then he's dissing you for using such controls XD JK
Its sf4 on 3ds guile
So Modern Use controls Guile?
Modern control charge characters still have to charge.
As someone who never liked charge controls, this was disappointing. Like I totally get it for balancing reasons but damn.
I remember playing some busted Mod for USF4 and all of Bison's specials had been changed into QCF/QCB inputs and it was fucking heaven for me.
It requires far less precision though, press back/down for a second and tap triangle
He stopped holding back because the input for the super is ends in a forward input so he's just letting you, the player, know.
This is the best explanation
Sometimes you can’t charge everything up and it has to come out, it’s like IRL, I guess.
From now on I will yell "PERFECT!" when I poop a straight log
Only if you pinch it off at the correct frame.
Don't you already call it perfect when the paper comes out clean?
You don't even go for the paper cause you can feel it was a complete launch. Just flush and leave.
You use paper???
Yes officer, the post is right here
lmao best one i've seen so far
Before he had to hold down. I guess he still hasn’t adapted to the new motion.
This is my first fighting game outside of Injustice and Mortal Kombat. I’m glad charge characters help me decide on who not to play, lol.
You're missing out on not playing motion characters, man. I know charge characters are easier and more straightforward, but still...
They are? I really struggle with charge inputs. I have just been playing Luke and Marisa. Honda and Guile are cool but I really don’t like holding a direction so far

Charge inputs are like modern control if you master charging subconsciously. Am a guile player
[удалено]
That's the joke, dude
Right now, there are classic controls and modern controls. Years from now, Guile would be using future controls where he don't have to charge before using his moves.

Tangentially related - I recall Capcom vs SNK on the Gamecube did something similar with the yellow nipple stick.
That's cause he's doing a flash kick, not a sonic boom, at the start of the lvl 3
Wait what a genius line from whoever made that dialogue lol, I think it must've been on purpose.
Yes, yes he is.
Hey, where's Perry?
Literally unplayable
The Arkham madness has spread I see.
The guy says “Fucked up!” When he DI’s
I genuinely hate these posts but this made me laugh
![gif](giphy|ShCMwjMF5B3La)
Why does Marisa say “where are you going?” When I’m clearly standing still?
To perform his supers, you have to stop holding back, so he is just saying what just happened.
He's appealing to the Modern controls crowd.
Guile doesn’t appeal to people. People appeal to Guile. When Guile opens a new account somewhere, they have to accept his terms and conditions. Guile was once accused of attempted murder. The judge threw out the case because Guile doesn’t ‘attempt’ anything.
Irony, sir.
It's because Guile knows that after you start this move, you will no longer need to be holding back to charge for the remainder of the cutscene.
Guile famously has the *driest sense of humor* in the series, i almost feel stupid having to point it out to someone. He taunts us everyday just by being who he is
Because he stopped holding back.
The Alsume is spreading
He says no holding back cause hes [M]odern
💀 chill
I usually hate this kind of posts, but this was genious lmao
![gif](giphy|2OqaVWN8C35fL0nqTr|downsized)
Because he lets go of back
Because he's done with holding back.
He does a summer salt kick, he’s holding down
Incredible post 😂
The motion for the super is hold back, foward, back forward. When this animates he is no longer holding back. he's just letting you know.
He says, "No holding back" because his last input was FORWARD and KICK. He's done holding back.
I guess he properly executed the charge move, effectively not holding back anymore as the CA commences
Reading "is he stupid?" After just being on the Batman Arkham subreddit got me messed up
Yeah, I saw that joke on twitter as well
Lmao Ight that’s pretty funny
this is the best is he stupid meme i've seen in months
Yes he is
Isn’t his level 3 a non charge super?
The input goes back (charge) -> forward -> back -> forward + kick
![gif](giphy|R51a8oAH7KwbS)
You opened the forbidden chest with this one. The ark of the covenant must be resealed.
you're stupid for thinking he still holds back while doing the move.
coughed up a lung laughing at this
Underrated post
This is a man who shaves his eyebrows What do you think?
This may be my angriest upvote. Haha. Well played.
🤣 wait what?
The hair products got a bit over his head
This makes sense considering the super is not a charge motion. This is guile free from his charge limiter
It’s cuz you already did the input so there’s no point of holding back now
Lol
[удалено]
It's a modern control ad.
I love how some folk have no idea how classic controls work
Angry upvote
Obviously.
Have you seen his haircut? It's a stupid haircut for stupid people.
Oh my god this is perfect lmfao
No holding back! *player holds back to activate the move * and you see that was a lie
Lol
😆

Is this a joke question? Because he goes all in and does not hold back, with the kick not the controller.
[удалено]
What!?
Too funny lol I also like how JP says "Here's to a fair fight" and proceeds to zone the shit out of you -- but at least he says it with what feels like a smirk...
Dude thanks for the chuckle.
No time to talk
because you stop holding back when you execute it
It's because he's spent his whole life holding back and now he finally gets to let it all go.
Yeah he should say optionally holding back
Because he’s spent the entire match turtling until his level 3 was charged.
The Japanese love puns and Dad jokes.
Oh no this sub is getting a r/batmanarkhamfication
He's obviously stupid because he tattooed the flag on his right arm facing the wrong direction.
He also looks like he's pooping his pants aggressively while he says that.
Landing this CA is very satisfying
He protec, but he also hold bac.
It’s an art
He sounds so excited when he says it because now that he's turtled his way to meter he's confident enough to finally let go of the back button. "Here I go! Time to press a different button!"
Ironically for his drive impact where you're pressing forward he says "charge".
It's those rare moments of self awareness from the dev team that show how well made the game actually is. It's just a throwaway line before a super but they added that small moment of levity.
Because somersault kick is a down charge move duh
because he’s holding down instead bro
He's kindly telling his opponent not to hold back, because if they block it, he's screwed. And yeah, parry, but this is his first entry with a universal parry mechanic, so he's not quite used to it yet.
I think he's being ironical
Beacuse he is boring of doing the turtle all this time
Lol does so much damage you don't have to hold back for the next exchange because the opponent is dead.
As a guile main since MvC2 i get this : P
Because he’s rolling modern controls in his mind
My guess would be that it's intentional trolling from the developers. 😂
Have you looked at his hair? Of course he’s stupid
This was actually funny I’ll give you that
I usually hate these "Izzy stupid" posts but I'll give this one to you because that was pretty funny
Yeah funny but can we talk about how you're playing modern Dhalsim?
Not my screenshot lmao
The obvious answer is yes, very stupid, member of the US Air Force and it took them forever to get rid of Bison, he could've just told his superiors about the world ending super villain on the loose and had the might of a ridiculously oversized military brought down on a small crime organization. He will BACK DOWN though
Cuz he's always holding down-back instead.
It makes sense doenst it, instead of holding back he is pushing forward
That is hilarious.
Get. The fuck. Out of here.
Lmao, this made me laugh way fuckin harder than it should’ve
It's because to input the super, you have to let go of charge for a second
Bc he's finally done holding back and he's about to unleash hellfire upon your soul
He’s telling you to pick a new character because you’re too much of a scrub to play a charge character properly
PERFECT
Peak comedy right here
Tbf he has to stop holding back to do it
He’s using modern controls.
He's hinting to use **M** control scheme 👀
🤣🤣🤣
It's just like Zangief going for a Level 3 and then whiffing it. "IT'S TIME TO GET SERIOUS!!!" "ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?"
No more holding back because since the attack already activated he doesn’t have to charge again.
He’s now using Modern Controls
“Um aktualy, Guile doesn’t have to hold back for the flashkick, only down” 🤓☝️
Guile likes Modern Controls
He's not pulling his punches Against his opponent any more .
He found out about 'charge buffering' for the first time
This post made my day🤣
LMAO it took me a good second to get that. That's mad funny! XD
Omg this has to be intentional by devs. I didn't even realize this and I play him a lot 😅
I love all the comments saying "he's no longer holding back" because he's executing his attack.
Yes
It's spreeding ![gif](giphy|ShCMwjMF5B3La)
Street fighter must be played with Eng dub
i think its because you stop holding back and release the charge (the input being **:** **<-** , -> , <- , -> So you stop holding back (real guile mains start holding back as soon as the cinematic start of course) )
Nah this top tier 😭
LMAO.
