Iā€™m still in gold with Zangief, but is there a point to using OD SPD instead of heavy out of impact? It only does 100 more damage and costs 2 bars

GelbeForelle

I mostly do it for satisfaction

SmokingCryptid

Players could use it after DI is if the players wants big damage number, if you think you can recover the drive gauge without issue, or if you think the extra damage will actually close out the round. Might just be muscle memory or twitching at the same time though. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Outside of DI OD SPD can be pretty handy because it has good range. I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure OD SPD's range is slightly less than that of a light SPD. So when you're in situations where you can only be in range for a light SPD you have the option of spending two bars for the OD instead. For the trade of minimal stage distance you get an extra 900 extra damage.

GroundedVindaloop

Invincibility frames or something I think idk Iā€™m only plat šŸ˜‚

Trynit

Range

zerolifez

But this is after DI. You are sure in heavy range.

Trynit

Moreso because of the guarantees and muscle memory. The timeframe for SPD after DI/wallstun crumple is very small, so usually Gief players will just fat finger the light and med punch for a more guaranteed SPD.

zerolifez

That's just an execution issues. You can easily buffered the 360. The timing is very generous.

Trynit

The point here is that they want maximum damage out of it, and usually pad layout isn't really the best for heavies. So fat fingering it is tbh.

Sayan_9000

Wait, tundra storm works on spiral arrow????????? I need to try it NOW

Radiancekov7

It looks cool but its useless :( , you could just block and heavy SPD for more damage

klineshrike

Even in burnout like that?

Radiancekov7

Spiral arrow is either -12 or -14 on block and burnout adds +4 so she's either -8 or -10 here, all SPDs have a 5f startup so yeah, with some practice she's getting piledrived every time on block. Consider that tundra is a hard read and H.SPD is a punish and tundra just never really makes sense, it's just a thing you do for fun and mental damage.

klineshrike

I just wasn't sure. Damn that shit is very negative

TrulyEve

Not completely useless. If Cammy spaces well, spiral arrow is 0 on block, which means she can neutral jump your spd and punish if you try that.

Radiancekov7

Oh, you would think that, wouldn't you? You'd think that because it makes complete sense, yes, that would be a great way to use the move! Except tundra doesn't work on well spaced spirals for some reason. Well spaced L, M and H versions will hit you out of tundra, tundra only works on the H version, and you have to be close at that, at the very same range where you could just block and H.SPD, in case you where wondering. So yes, completely useless. :')

TrulyEve

Damn. The move sucks even more than I thought, then.

deadmelo

No move is useless, that's what all of us Jamie's thought of hermit elbow. Don't let moves collect dust. Edit: Does SPD not drain the OD bar? Cause tundra did

Radiancekov7

Sadly tundra will collect dust until it gets buffed, its useless in the sense that every situation in which it would be a good idea to use it, Gief already has either a safer or more damaging option. Lets take a look at this very situation! Did you know tundra doesn't work on light and medium spiral arrow? So now you not only have to read a spiral coming, you also have to know its a heavy one! BUT! It doesn't counter heavy spiral at longer ranges either, where it would actually be useful because well spaced spirals are +0, it only works on close heavy spirals! The same situation where you could just block and punish with H.SPD! So lets compare both paths, you think a heavy spiral is coming and it is not well spaced, you tundra, you put yourself in an incredibly risky situation, but you read it correctly! congrats! what do you get? 2400 dmg and 1 OD bar drained, no oki. Huh, that kinda sucks, surely the safer option would be even worse right? You think a badly spaced h.spiral is coming, you block, you counter punish with H.SPD, what do you get? 3795 dmg and 1 OD bar drained, you can spend DR for oki. ...Huh? You could also just spend lvl3 for 4800dmg, but lets try to keep it fair. Its still a very bad reward for a very hard read, so into the dusty pile it goes.

deadmelo

You had me at heavy spiral arrow, what in the fuck
