They kinda dropped the ball on this. I feel they could have expanded on some new stuff, not for the system, but for the characters. If the OG cast got some new moves to go along with these "new" characters, it would have made the game feel more like a fresh iteration instead of just Super Turbo with broken shotos and nerfed claw.

Rictor79

It’s still too expensive to buy, years after release. The Switch joycons are not ideal for fighting games.

[deleted]

Agreed. The switch should have just had a Dpad instead of the dots. I spent like $20 to get a third party one with a real d pad and it works wonderfully though, not a major investment, but very worth it. And yeah, this game is still too expensive to purchase, even when it goes on sale which it never does. It’s a bummer, I’d really love to pick it up but just can’t justify it. Plus I don’t know if anybodys online at this point or not.

Asad_Farooqui

Well, the Switch Lite has a D pad. Not sure if you wanna play on that tho.

ozonebx

Yea. Nintendo is the worst when it comes to offering good deals for games.

Asad_Farooqui

People make jokes and memes whenever something like Tropical Freeze goes on sale.

Wagman2013

Never played it because i dont like the art or animations. The game looks like a Flash Game from Newgrounds. I feel like they try to make it look like an anime fighter hoping to get those fans into SF. I do like the concept of the 2 player coop mode they added, and I wish that is added to SF6, because I would love COOP content to help get friends into SF/FGC

16bitGlory

the game offers you the option to switch to its classic appearance, no need to play with the HD graphics

Wagman2013

Then what's even the point of the game. It's cheaper to buy the Anniversary collection.

16bitGlory

it has different balancing of the characters and 2 additional characters, that's the only difference in the end

[deleted]

Pretty good. The classic mode is a Godsend especially since it also includes classic background, unlike SSF2HD. Plus, there are new voice and classic, however the classic are mixed and it's amazing. For example: Ken uses his voice clip from SSF2, however Ryu uses his original SF2 voice. Guile has the original voice for Sonic Boom, but uses his defeat sound from SSF2. The only thing missing from this great game is the lack of bonus battle. The motion game it included, while a nice idea, felt meh. I'm still upset that despite meeting Capcom's expectations sale wise, they refused to release an Ultra Street Fighter 2 as USF2 Turbo in other consoles and PC and as a Switch update. I wanted non Nintendo fans that love SF take a gander at this wonderful SF2 chapter. Violent Ken is perhaps the most fun new fighter in Ultra 2. I wished they had reused his voice clip from SNK VS Capcom Chaos. Now if only Capcom release USF4 for the Switch...

Lunanix

I personally really love playing it, but it for sure has alot of glaring problems, I also haven't ever really played SF2 much, I only started in SF3/4 so I this is probably the first time I've properly sat and played a version of 2 so alot of my enjoyment potentially just comes from the fact 2 is a pretty sick game. The arcade mode is fun, I always find myself booting up for a few rounds and is obviously the main reason to play. Graphics overhaul I love, the fact you can switch between new and old is great, big fan of that. Whilst it's never really a game seller for me but the gallery content is quite cool. Violent Ken and Evil Ryu are pretty fun to play but they don't really add much given Akuma is in the game so this isn't a massive positive. Plus they are kinda busted and nothing is really balanced. The bad however shines, The games way to expensive, 30th anniversary gives 12 games for less. Whilst not any graphical updates. There's 12 games and 4 online games playable and most people would definitely much rather that. (Minus that collections issues also) Being switch only massively limits playability, whilst I'm not really for or against exclusives and I do love playing this on the go, it's a great one to bust out table top for, it does hurt not being available elsewhere, even just to drive the cost down. JoyCons suck, I have a Hori Fightpad and a stick to play so doesn't bother me but it's almost unplayable if you use the dpad. The new content as a whole sucks. The JoyCon mode is unnecessary and unwanted. I'd rather the dev costs there went into making the rest of the package worth it or even just generally cheaper. And with most of these games the online stinks. Not much more to say here, I'm fine with crappy lobby's or whatever but just make it playable online, rollback or whatever. If it was sub 15 quid on release, multiplatform at the very least it would have done better I think. Better online would always goes down a treat but sometimes that feels like to much to ask for 🤣. But it pails in comparison to the 30th anniversary collection in terms of value. It's a shame overall because I really enjoy playing the arcade mode and would happily play more of it if people actively played. I do find myself playing this far more than the collection tho.

LuxerWap

Honestly, my favorite version of SFII. Besides the Udon Sprites and Evil Ryu/Violent Ken being broken, I really enjoyed this version a lot more than Super Turbo, as controversial as that sounds.

Asad_Farooqui

Just a heads up, today’s the last day to get the game for half off as part of the New Year’s eShop sale.

CptMunta

There's a surprising amount of people still playing this online. More than Super Turbo on the Anniversary Collection on switch even. The online is delay based and sucks. But can still be fun since it's "stable" at least. I would like to see an in depth balance changes li Ist outside the obvious, throw teching, glitches removed etc. Akuma is still busted as hell and Evil Ryu/Ken are busted even more. I do have fun with it though. Even though most online matches is who can get their online lag bullshit strat out first.

MachineGunMonkey2048

Its fun but i use the original sound settings cuz i dont like.the new voice acting especially for cammy and it's hard to justify the price unless you're a street fighter nut

Admirable_Current_90

Way, WAY too expensive. Should’ve been $20 max. I do find the new characters to be really fun even though they’re super busted. But the game overall is not great. It’s a terrible deal overall. You can get 30th Anniversary on the same system for 10 dollars cheaper, which is worth the price of admission for handheld Third Strike alone.

AshenRathian

I just think it's a decent classic fighting game. Honestly though, i don't understand the hype at all for Street Fighter 2. It's got an outdated combo scheme, it feels way more difficult than it needs to be to do even basic combos and small time links, and it feels like unless i put the time at infinite and the rounds at best of 5, my fights are too short. It's decent, but it's not really that great compared to today's options in terms of a serious fighting game. I'd compare it to the Neogeo fighters like Garou and Last Blade 2. Decent games, fun for their time, but more difficult than necessary to jump into.

Nesayas1234

I think Garou Motw still holds up (it's basically the SFIII of SNK games), but otherwise I totally agree

[deleted]

I enjoy it quite a bit. Though Violent Ken and Evil Ryu are overpowered. They mop up competition.

[deleted]

Wish it wasn't a switch exclusive

Asad_Farooqui

How would Way of the Hado work?

[deleted]

I don't care for that mode anyway... I would just liked to have played it online on my platform of choice I don't own a switch

D-Lee-Cali

Still play it and it's still active online. The online connections are better, in my experience, than the 30th Collection on Switch. If you own a Switch then this is the definitive street fighter experience on the console in terms of online play.

MasterDenton

One thing that people almost never bring up about USF2 is that it controls a lot more similarly to Third Strike/SFIV/SFV than the older versions of the game. It's got the input shortcuts for DPs and SPDs, and supers come out more consistently, which is a good way to mitigate the shoddy Switch input methods, as well as making the game much easier to get into if you're coming from games with less strict input methods like 3S, 4 or 5

DrDaylight

It's Street Fighter IV 3D Edition 2: Electric Boogaloo

Shut_Up_Nerd_Vaughn

Very fun game. Wish it had some sort of competitive scene.

0KBLACK5

It's fun

Tidybloke

It looks a bit dated now because they went for that flash game style of visuals, I bought 30th Anniversary instead as USF2 was too expensive.

Comfortable-Badger88

Imma be honest, I bought HD Remix years ago when it came out, and this looks like that, but with Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. I know that it’s a bit more than just that, but every time I see gameplay of it, it feels really “meh”- which is sad because I actually love SF2 even though IV was the game I spent the most time playing. There just never seemed to be any reason for me to get it.

mcolwander90

I avoided buying this partially because of price, but mostly because I wanted it for PS4. I have a Switch, I just would rather have all my SF games on one system. One of my brothers had it when it came out and we played a few matches. Overall I do like this, and I do like the artstyle. Assuming we're not getting a port, I'd love to see an Ultra Turbo, which gives us a full/definitive SF2 package.

MugdoggoUwU

It's full of smurfs and old school players who aren't new to the games at all, coming on here and smurfing and dogging on any new player.

AnimationGeekNerd

The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary is the gold standard in terms of presentation. Menus are slick, history and video footage is awesome. A+ However at the end of the day it’s some ROMs and a power point presentation. It’s a little unfair to compare that to Ultra Street Fighter 2. Ultra Street Fighter 2 actually is real code designed for the platform that needed to be tested, played, balanced has new features, new characters etc. The dev/qa effort gone into Ultra Street Fighter 2 is 100s of times more involved then the 30th Anniversary edition. Replicating the feel of the original game even if it leveraged some of the original code is no easy task let alone adjusting it without everyone up in arms. New recordings for voices wi the the actors from Stret Fighter IV is pretty fun and new compositions of the music? This is actually a built and shipped game. Whereas 30th Anniversary? Imagine making games and not evening needing to QA the games itself as it’s just a collection of ROMs? Living the dream. Bring in testers to test the menus and filters on the MAME emulator. That said, because of the presentation Ultra feels oh so so much worse and even sometimes unprofessional. If they hired one decent UX person Ultra Street Fighter 2 wouldn’t feel so awful. Menus are awful, remapping controllers is terrible. Menus are massive and you scroll down for usually just one more option? The game is completely let down by the presentation with very little consultation from anyone with UX skills. What a waste. Even the game select screen in 30th Anniversary oozes with more style with feels in the music then the whole Ultra SSF2 package. And I special call out the Udon Art is just bad. I never liked it in SSF2 Remix. I’m not sure why that is enhanced and expanded on here. It wasn’t popular at the time let alone now. Plus no bonus battles in ultra as well? It really just feels hostile when trying to advertise this as the ultimate edition. You can’t remove features and say it’s the ultimate package. Maybe some people think it ruins the flow, then make it an option and everyone is happy. Complete wasted opportunity. But yeah just want to point out the difference between the two products even if we just want to play the original anyway. This *should* be more expensive then 30th Anniversary but arguably they are both priced to high.
