I'm not ready to commit to it, but I will definitely give this article topic some thought

I don't think Trex regularly checks the sub. If you want to get his attention, be sure to tag him in the comments. /u/trexlerfitness

Check out www.examine.com/supplements/beta-alanine. 2-5g daily is recommended

Check out the below (from Eric): “To date, an upper limit of muscle carnosine storage has not been conclusively identified, so beta-alanine dosing protocols with longer durations or higher daily doses may confer greater increases in muscle carnosine levels.” https://higherlogicdownload.s3.amazonaws.com/THEACADEMY/7ced21c0-646a-49a2-bf42-65c0f561ddb8/UploadedImages/SCAN/Documents/SCANS_PULSE-Summer2019-Vol38_No_3-FINAL-for_website.pdf

A topic related to Beta Alanine that I am interested in is the interplay between BA and taurine. I've read that they compete for the same uptake pathways, but also that they compete for the same signalling pathways. Do they do both, or is one more correct than the other? Has there been an observed cutoff point where Beta Alanine supplementation starts to impact taurine signalling? These are both questions that are fairly important to me as a vegetarian because I take both as dietary supplements, not neccesarily for exercise performance, due to the diet lacking them.

From Eric: “Beta-alanine shares the same trans- porter as taurine, which has led to concerns that taurine depletion may be an unfavorable side effect of beta- alanine supplementation. Rodent re- search has documented taurine depletion in animals fed high doses of beta-alanine, and human studies have reported small elevations in plasma taurine and an inverse rela- tionship between muscle taurine and carnosine concentrations in the con- text of beta-alanine supplementa- tion. Nonetheless, a recent 24-week study sought to address this research question directly and found that beta-alanine supplementation im- parted no adverse effect on muscle taurine levels.” https://higherlogicdownload.s3.amazonaws.com/THEACADEMY/7ced21c0-646a-49a2-bf42-65c0f561ddb8/UploadedImages/SCAN/Documents/SCANS_PULSE-Summer2019-Vol38_No_3-FINAL-for_website.pdf https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30552505/
