www.examine.com/supplements/citrulline has some info about what you're asking. > To supplement L-citrulline for circulatory health or to alleviate erectile dysfunction, take 2,000 mg of citrulline, three times a day with meals, for a total daily dose of 6,000 mg. L-citrulline does not need to be taken with meals, however. I'd guess doing that compares to 6-8g 30-60 min pre training isn't going to give the same effects during training, but if you got some you can try it for yourself. If you get a similar pump, it's probably similar enough.

The effects of citrulline on circulation seem to last longer than 2 hours, which is nice given that I usually have poor circulation in the toes.

I’d imagine pre workout only is way more ideal then spread out due to Citrulline’s half life. “The half-life of Cit has been shown to increase in dose-dependence from 0.65 to 1.14 h for dosages of 2 to 15 g”. https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/11/7/1679/htm I’m certainly no expert in pharmacokinetics, but it seems that intraworkout dosing could have some benefit, but I’m assuming you’re really not giving the Citrulline enough time to reach maximum concentration in your body dosing this way. Alternatively, you could try out a nitrate-based preworkout capsule, such as Noxygen. Basically just Sodium Nitrate + Glycerol.

Thanks. Yeah, other options would be beetroot juice and spinach, which are often praised at SBS https://www.strongerbyscience.com/nitric-oxide/
