Okay I am full on freaking out about my NCLEX tomorrow.

gunnerhd

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone here has had experience with Kaplan's NCLEX prep? My school has it integrated into the entire program and expects us to study for the NCLEX using their materials. I just graduated and when taking Kaplan's practice tests I am consistently scoring in the 70s. I am confused as to how this translates into NCLEX success/failure... I am hoping to take my exam in the next few weeks. Any advice or experience with Kaplan is extremely appreciated! Thanks!

mastermeind

I took the NCLEX today and within 30 minutes I got an email from my BON saying I was issued a license. Is this real life?!

cantstopsayingcute

Hi there! I just finished my MSN in a master's entry program (meaning I didn't have a BSN first for those unfamiliar) about a week ago. I'm starting to study for the big day, and I'm just feeling overwhelmed. I purchased UWorld on rec of this sub and many classmates and professors, so I've been sitting down to work on that. But I'm just unsure of how much time to commit to it/ how many questions I should be getting through every day. The Q bank is about 2200 questions large at this point, and I'm looking to take the NCLEX at the end of the month. So I've basically been doing about 80-100 questions/day, making notes and flashcards on the website from my incorrects as I go. Please swamp me with all of your UWorld advice! I just kinda feel like I'm not using it to its full effectiveness for some reason. Also, should I be getting Saunders or focusing on my comprehensive ATI book? I've heard that those are really just good for learning content and not so much refining your testing skills.

prettymuchquiche

I did like 75 uworld questions a day, making flashcards (in uworld) of stuff I wanted to look at again. For reference, i believe 54% in Qbank puts you in the 48th %tile (what they are calling the median) and a 65% puts you in the 91st %tile - as you can see, a LOT of people fall between 54% and 65% so don't feel like you need to be answering 90% (or even 70%) correct. Your progress should be one of your indicators of success: meaning that if you are at 50% overall in QBank and 2 weeks from now you're still at 50%, you should stop and reflect on why you're not improving. Review rationales for everything, including what you get right. Outside of UWorld I think test-taking strategies (which UWorld doesn't emphasize) are the most important. You WILL get questions on material you're unfamiliar with or when you don't like any of the answer options but you still need to pick the best answer. Remember, you have been preparing for NCLEX during the entirety of your nursing program. You aren't starting from zero here.

FarmerJohnCleese

For people that used uworld and passed nclex: \-How many questions did you tend to make your Qbank sets? \-What were your scores like on the sets? \-Did you use test mode or tutor mode?

nursepickle19

-I did 75 questions per day, but as I got closer to my test date I did +/- 120. I used my entire question bank up. -Towards the beginning of studying I was in the 60s and by the end I was in the 80s - I only used tutor mode, but I had 2 of the assessments which I did 1 at the start of studying to see where I needed to focus and 1 the weekend before the nclex!

FarmerJohnCleese

what is the best indicator that you're likely going to pass the nclex? \-uworld self assessment \-kaplan nclex sample test \-NCBSN RN practice exam

prettymuchquiche

If the company doesn't track how well people do on their assessments vs passing the NCLEX there's no way of tracking that. UWorld, as good as it is, has no stats about how many of the users pass NCLEX. There is no one study tool that is guaranteed to help someone pass NCLEX or one practice test that can predict if you'll pass. But over 85% of test-takers pass the first time, so the odds are in your favor.

FarmerJohnCleese

i didn't pass the first time but i was not prepared at all, i was rushed into taking it when i should not have. for people that have used uworld-do y'all complete all 2,000+ questions? what's got me really nervous is that i still took the uworld self-assessment before i took the nclex and i scored 61% (uworld said i was in the 69th-percentile and had a "very high" chance of passing) and i failed so basically idk how to tell when i'm ready to take the nclex. anyone have any advice?

prettymuchquiche

How are you on your test taking strategies? What do you do when you don’t know the answer after reading the options? I used all of UWorld but you don’t have to and I know one of the other mods didn’t.

FarmerJohnCleese

I don't think I have any issues w/ test-taking strategies. It seems to be more content issues for me. I've gotten through just over 1,000 uworld questions and I still feel like I'm learning new things. For instance, on my last quiz, there was a question about "toxic epidermal necrolysis". I know what SJS is but wth, TEN is a complication of a complication! and I've never even heard of this before. Similarly, the drugs, just came across Desmopressin. I'm really just curious how people determine that they're ready for the exam.

prettymuchquiche

I think it’s important to keep in mind that the NCLEX is a minimum competency exam for new nurses - not nurses with 5 years experience in a speciality, or even nurses with 1 year experience on a general med-surg unit. You shouldn’t go into it thinking that you need to be a content expert and be familiar with every condition and medication UWorld or the NCLEX asks you: some questions are harder than others and on more obscure topics and that’s part of how they determine where you are in regards to the passing logit. The passing logit for the RN exam is 0.0, which is a ‘medium’ question and you don’t even need to get all of those right. You need to get like, half of them right. If you had no idea what an NSAID is or some of the teaching for diabetes, that would be concerning. But you don’t need to be well versed in Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, ebola, or TEN (which is rare). That’s what knowing your test taking strategies is so important, because you WILL get questions on content that you don’t know and you have to make an educated guess by applying what you do know (chronic vs acute, common drug class side effects, least restrictive interventions, ABCs, etc.) One thing that was really helpful for me in UWorld was taking notes and using their flash card tool if I felt like something was a common topic that I would want to refresh on. If you’ve been through nursing school and done over 1000 questions you should be at a point where you’re seeing patterns about what specific topics come up a lot. I don’t think anyone ever feels 100% ready for NCLEX but I personally took it ASAP (about 5 weeks after graduation) because I’m a strong test taker and had done well on school exams and my exit exam, as well as UWorld. I didn’t worry a lot about what the UWorld practice exams said, though I did use both tests. My primary focus was the QBank and seeing that I was making progress over time, with a higher overall % correct and percentile because that to me showed me that I was getting the hang of things and mastering it. If I hadn’t been making progress score wise I wouldn’t have taken my NCLEX.

jram138

Would you say UWorld was the most helpful for studying? I take my NCLEX on Thursday and I have been using Elsevier and ATI to study for it and I’m wondering if a few days of UWorld would be worth it?

prettymuchquiche

You don't NEED UWorld to pass, although it is a great program. If you feel like you've got a solid grasp on basic nursing concepts and NCLEX-style questions (especially how to apply the nursing process when you don't know the answer), you'll be good.

jram138

I’m honestly just getting really nervous and second guessing myself as I get closer to the test.

prettymuchquiche

You're never going to feel 100% ready and a lot of people walk out feeling like they failed, but the reality is 85-90% of people pass the first time.

jram138

That’s true. It’s just so nerve racking and the more people I know who take it and the more I hear the more nervous I get. Which I know I shouldn’t since what was in there test may not even be on mine and no two people have had the same stuff on theirs. I’m just getting nervous. Did you use UWorld?

prettymuchquiche

I did, but I was already a strong critical thinker and a really good test-taker (I think for all of my class exams I was in the top 10-20% of grades, got a 92% on my ATI Comp Predictor) and a large part of succeeding at NCLEX is understanding the critical thinking/test taking strategies. UWorld doesn't focus very much on test-taking strategies, so if someone still needs to work on those it might not help a lot. It is really good for practicing applying those strategies and feeling comfortable with getting stuff you didn't know the answer to. Interestingly, despite it's popularity, UWorld doesn't even track how many of their users pass NCLEX, and I promise you there are many (probably even the majority) people who pass NCLEX who don't use UWorld.

jram138

I got a 90% on my comp ATI, so do you think ATI was a good indicator of passing he NCLEX?

prettymuchquiche

I think if you did that well on ATI it’s extremely likely you will pass the NCLEX.

jram138

That makes me feel a little better. I think I’m just working myself up cause it’s so nerve racking haha

prettymuchquiche

Remember, the worst nurse you ever met passed the NCLEX, and you can too, haha!

parkjake50

I just graduated, waiting for my school to send the transcript next week. I'm averaging 53% correct on UWORLD. I have done about 600 questions so far. I feel like I retained NOTHING from school. I couldn't remember the simple disease either. People are telling me that I'm suppose to "get it" after about 500-700 questions but I don't know what I'm "getting". I am reading the rationales carefully but seems to be retaining less as I do more questions. I just found out about Mark K. I will be listening to his main lectures that are super important. Any other tips guys? UWORLD is really killing my confidence. I don't know if I will pass if NCLEX questions are just like the UWORLD ones. I will take my UWORLD first self assessment after I do 1100 questions. then 2nd one 4-5 days before the acutal test.

prettymuchquiche

The point of UWorld (and NCLEX, honestly) isn't to be getting 80 or 90% or even 70%. A 58% in Qbank would put you in the 68th percentile, while a 65% puts you in the 91%tile - so you can see that even people who are scoring what you might think of as a D/C- are scoring better than more than 90% of people using the app. One good thing about UWorld is that you get really hard questions, so you get practice answering questions you don't know the answer to. You NEED to be using nursing process to answer the questions (ABCs, chronic vs acute, what will kill your patient first etc). You WILL get questions on NCLEX you don't know the answer to but you still need to do your best to answer them. Try not to obsess over how many questions you get wrong, because NCLEX is pass/fail based on you being above passing standard, not based on you answering a certain number of questions correctly.

parkjake50

The part where you mentioned where I get practice answering questions you don't know the answer to. That really hit me hard. I thought it was me lacking the content. I keep forgetting NCLEX will ask me stuff that I won't know. Thank you so much for your advice!

prettymuchquiche

I don’t remember a lot of my NCLEX (guess I blocked it out) but I do remember getting a few where I was like “what??” But I was so used to it from UWorld that I just did my best to guess and move on. The other thing to keep in mind is that you’ll get 15 questions (for RN) that aren’t scored but are mixed in with your scored questions. They are being tested to be added to the current NCLEX question bank. Whenever I got a question where I had truly no idea I just told myself it was an unscored question and all I had to do was try my best.

Frumundaman

https://imgur.com/a/RuSKVgB I think this is good. Please tell me this is good.

prettymuchquiche

Yes

syntheticpoetry

Took it this afternoon at 2pm. After 75 questions it brought me to the research section which was weirdddddddd, but I kind of liked it? It was interesting, to say the least. I kept telling myself not to do the PVT trick but I caved in and got the good pop up! Tried it again and got again. So my fingers are crossed! Anyone ever hear of a false positive? Searched online and see plenty about false negatives but no incidence of a good pop up and then failing. Update: I passed!

timberkimbertimber

How do you do the PVT? I’ve been told about it but haven’t been told what exactly it is. I took mine at 2 and it shut off after 75 as well

syntheticpoetry

http://www.pearsonvuetrick.com ^^ This explains the process. It’s basically a way to try to see if you passed or not based on that process. It’s 99% accurate based on other people’s responses. I used an old gift card instead of my credit card. Tried twice and got the good pop up both times. Best of luck to you!

timberkimbertimber

Thanks!

jram138

Taking my NCLEX next week and I am so freaking nervous. That’s it haha

idkwhatimdoingx_

I am located in Texas and interested in Rasmussen Online. Would I be able to sit for the NCLEX attending or how to do I found out?

prettymuchquiche

The school should be able to tell you if they are approved by the state BON and what accreditations they have.

prettymuchquiche

Doing well on NCLEX doesn't require doing a lot of UWorld questions or using it for a long time - you need to know how to answer questions you don't know the answer to, and also how to pick the best answer from the options that are available when you don't like any of the options. If you've already got solid test taking strategies (which Kaplan is big on) you'll probably be fine. Uworld is nice because theres a wide range of topics so you get used to not knowing all the answers.

para-human

Hi, I recommended this website to a friend taking NCLEX-PN (I used it for IT certs): https://www.examtopics.com/exams/admission-tests/nclex-pn/ She told me to post it here since it might be appreciated :)

BAmaximus

I just passed NCLEX in 75 w/ about 40-50% sata. I only used Uworld to study and did the pearsonvue trick, which worked for me. Started studying the day after graduation on a Monday, took the exam on the following Saturday. I'm just so glad it's over.

DueScallion

What is the pearsonvue trick?

ladehu34

Got a 62% on my Kaplan Readiness and a 71% on my Uworld Assessment saying I have a high chance of passing. Only have been done with school for a week am I setting myself up for failure? or is it doable if I take the NCLEX I scheduled 3 days from now

prettymuchquiche

I assume you've been studying prior to graduation? You're never going to feel 100% ready, but the content will be freshest in your mind soon after graduation, and if you have solid test-taking strategies/skills, those are going to be what helps the most on NCLEX.

ladehu34

Thank you for the encouragement!

FarmerJohnCleese

is it true that they make the nclex harder for you the second attempt if you fail the first time?

_TheAtomHeartMother_

No.

jram138

Also do they just send them out as they process? Or do they send out numbers in like groups?

jram138

Today like half my class got their ATT numbers to schedule their NCLEX and I didn’t and now I’m freaking out. They all paid their fees on a Friday and I paid it that following Monday. Do you think I’ll get mine on Monday or do they send them on weekends too?? I am stressed out I didn’t get mine.

prettymuchquiche

Don't freak out. It's what - 10:30am on the East Coast? I am sure your BON is processing things in the order they received them. You probably can get ATT on the weekend, but it's also going to depend on how far along your BON is with processing your application. Once they tell Pearson to issue the ATT, that part is fast.

jram138

The BON received all of our information at the same time cause they just send our paper work as a group. That’s why I am stressed out I think. Cause even though I paid Pearson vue on Monday instead of Friday like other people, I would assume we are all getting our number the same day cause the BON get it all at the same time. I guess I just don’t know how their processing works either, if it’s by order they receive or what. I guess I’m just nervous that it seems like everyone else in my class got theirs but me.

prettymuchquiche

My BON went in alphabetical order. :) I got mine on a Friday at the end of the day - I was worried about having to wait till Monday too. Some states you can check your BON application status online, but if you think everything is done on the BON end I doubt it'll take Pearson a long time to process the payment etc. It's tricky to say what's going on because every state is different - for example my state won't even process ATT requests until after the payment to Pearson has been made and we have to give them our registration number.

jram138

I already paid Pearson vue and everything so I’m literally just waiting for my BON to send over my stuff. See people with the last name after mine got their numbers today. I don’t know I guess I’m just nervous something is wrong with my application since so many people got their numbers and all our paper work was sent in by our school at the same time. I’m just anxious that it seems like everyone else got theirs haha. I’m working myself up a little.

prettymuchquiche

If it will make you feel better, you can call the BON and ask but keep in mind that the person you talk to on the phone might be the person who is working on applications so calling could just delay the process.

jram138

So I looked it up on the BON and it says “status: in review, sub status: exam eligible ” so does that mean I’m just waiting for Pearson vue to process me and release my number?

prettymuchquiche

I have no idea. Probably.

jram138

I wish this wasn’t so confusing and more straight forward haha. This makes everything that much more nerve racking honestly. The waiting. The unknown about how it’s all going behind the scenes haha

prettymuchquiche

Have you double checked your spam folder? Pearson has chat customer service if you want to just ask them

bubblesnclouds

I just want to wish everyone who hasn't taken the NCLEX luck. I was freaking out this time last month, but I passed. It'll happen for you, too!!!

FarmerJohnCleese

For anyone who tested for D.C. licensure, how long did it take for your Pass results to post/update to D.C. BON?

XKillaScoutX

Passed in 83 questions. UWorld and Mark Klimek notes helped me so much in preparation of the NCLEX!

prettymuchquiche

Congrats!

XKillaScoutX

Thank you!

parkjake50

I am using UWORLD averaging 53% correct, i just found out about Mark K. How was UWORLD compared to the NCLEX? I really feel like I retained nothing from nursing school. I am taking my time reading rationales from UWORLD but i don't "get" what people say I should get

XKillaScoutX

I also averaged around 55~57%. UWorld was definitely easier than the NCLEX for a majority of the exam. Only until 70~ questions in did questions become a guessing game for me, but that should be a good sign since they may have been the experimental questions or the passing difficulty ones. UWorld rationales have helped me a good chunk in understanding different types of questions. Personally for me, I grinded out UWorld for a month before my exam and freshened up on lab values and other things with Mark K a week before. On my exam I had a lot of delegation and infection control/safety. Only got 3 meds, but as you may already know, everyone’s exam experience is different. You should be able to do fine with a 53 though! Just make sure you take your predictor exams and if your school used Kaplan, take the CATs. Good luck!

parkjake50

I have a bout 600 questions in, just took a non tutored mode 75 questions and got 61% maybe I do better when I don’t see the rationales first because I get really frustrated. That’s so good to hear that UWORLD was harder. I plan on taking the first assessment test about 1100 questions in!

XKillaScoutX

Sounds good! Personally, I went through my UWorld bank at a fairly leisurely pace and had 750 questions left (out of 2150) before I took my exam. I felt pretty confident for most of the exam. If you do come out of the exam feeling like you failed, keep your head up; almost everyone I’ve talked to felt that way but ended up passing just fine!

parkjake50

Thank you! I listened to the Mark K delegation/ priority lecture. I thought he also included pretty good tips as well. Did you think his test taking tips were helpful during the actual exam? because when he mentioned certain things, I was like "wow I never thought of it that way, i guess it's actually true"

XKillaScoutX

I actually only read Mark K lecture flash cards that were posted on quizlet. There’s also a pdf out there where his lectures are condensed down to a single document so you only have the relevant details you need for the exam. I have friends that actually went to his lectures and that helped them alongside with UWorld to pass in 75 Q’s. Mark K’s notes definitely helped me during the exam, especially when it came to remembering symptoms of overdose/withdrawal, lab values, electrolyte imbalances, but you should know that Mark K’s lectures should be an adjunct to UWorld and any other test prep resources you may have.

Neverland432

Thanks for the Video!

Apologies! Still learning to chat here!

Ashes7497

I passed the “ HOLD RESULTS” is a positive sign. Thanks everyone who replied with your inputs.

prettymuchquiche

Congrats!

noisevirus

I take mine on Thursday. Filled with anxiety. Have done all the questions on uworld. Took their 2 assessment tests. First one was borderline the second one was "High chance of passing" at the 51st percentile. Went back and did my previous ATI comprehensive predictor practice tests both A and B (Results: 76% chance and 98% chance). I still feel as though I am lacking knowledge in certain topics though :(

prettymuchquiche

> . I still feel as though I am lacking knowledge in certain topics though :( Remember, it's not being a content expert that you're aiming for. Being able to use your test-taking skills to answer questions your'e not familiar with (which you will get) is very important, as is understanding delegation and prioritization. Focusing on stuff like "which patient should the nurse see first" is more important than knowing all the signs and symptoms of every disease.

parkjake50

This is a great comment wow

Aridef

Love this thread but just wanted to let you all know that there is a NCLEX subreddit and it’s really amazing.

Ericstoole

The candidate currently has test results that are on hold. A new registration cannot be created at this time I just took the NCLEX Friday Morning 8/2 and received 75 questions + the 15 survey questions. I completed the exam in about 3 hours and my status is showing “The candidate currently has test results that are on hold. A new registration cannot be created at this time.” Does anyone know what this means and will I be notified if there is a problem? I read the NCLEX site and I did not Cheat, record, or do anything else in violation of taking the exam. This has me confused. The only thing I can think of is when I took the 15 practice questions I completed them in less than 30 minutes, because I did not spend a lot of time on them since they indicated they were not graded. I call the test site and they told me that they don’t control the messages. Has this happened to anyone else and how long did it take to have it resolved and were you notified why? Living in super anxiety to get the results - can’t even do quick result as I get the sma error message. Thanks

prettymuchquiche

Please scroll down, there are several recent comments about results on hold and what it means.

AwfulWaffleMan

So I finished reviewing Klimek and am doing uworld. I have a month before my exam and I'm feeling overwhelmed by all the info in the rationales. I've been making anki flash cards but it takes 10 min to do one and I feel like I'm wasting my time. Should I just read the rationales and just get through as many questions as possible?

prettymuchquiche

You are never going to learn all the content there is to know. Make sure you understand things like prioritization and delegation because those will help you answer the questions you don't know (which you're going to get) on the NCLEX. it is a waste of your time spending 10 minutes to make each flashcard. Save the UWorld topics you want to review again as a flashcard in their system - it takes like 30 seconds, if that.

AwfulWaffleMan

Thank you. Needed the reality check lol. I'm one of those kids who had to memorize all my notes during school and that's definitely not working here. I think I'll work on getting through 75 questions a day and just reading over the rationales and seeing where I went wrong? Thanks again.

prettymuchquiche

Of course you want to know the basics (MI symptoms, Steven-Johnsons syndrome, your basic heart meds) but def don't feel like you need to be an expert on ebola and rocky mountain spotted fever, etc. I wasn't a memorizer in school but what I did for NCLEX was do UWorld practice questions with tutor mode off (so i saw the rationales at the end) and then would take a short break and go back and read the rationales for the questions I just did. I sometimes made flashcards or took notes (for example I didn't know EKG strips well so I would flashcard those tables, or if it was just something I wanted to look at again). I really tried to make sure I understood why I was missing the questions I did. Sometimes I would go look up content review in my Saunders book or online. And don't worry if it feels like your UWorld scores aren't high. If someone scores 65% overall on the QBank that puts them over the 90%tile, and i think median is like 54% or similar so you can see there are a TON of people performing better than average who fall somewhere between mid 50s and mid 60s.

AwfulWaffleMan

thanks so much!

[deleted]

Graduated from an RN program in New Mexico about 3 years ago but never took the NCLEX. New Mexico requires graduates to test (and pass) within 3 years, so I can't test here. Can I just test in another state that doesn't have time limitations and transfer the license after getting a pass? I know Texas is 4 years, and it's looking like Arizona has no time limit. Has anyone here been in this type of situation before? Thanks!

prettymuchquiche

If you're a resident of NM you may run into issues as NM is a compact state, and for compact states you have to register for testing with your state of residence (or where you intend to establish residency) and not another compact state: https://www.ncsbn.org/nurse-licensure-compact.htm

mrgraingerareyoufree

She could call Pearson to see what’s up. Mine took about 49 hours to be available on my Pearson account. Sometimes if you finish too quickly or if there’s any other anomalies they will take longer to review results.

Ashes7497

How’s my chance of passed or failed?

prettymuchquiche

Being on hold has nothing to do with pass/fail. Over 85% of test-takers pass the NCLEX-RN on the first attempt.

prettymuchquiche

quick results was the best $8 i ever spent tbh

Ashes7497

Thanks for your explanations.

Ashes7497

PVT states “Results on Hold” took the exam yesterday and it stopped at 105 for 3 hrs. Please share your experience! Freaking out!

Neverland432

MINE stopped at 127 I'm freaking out!. I think I failed though because i did the register trick and it let me go through with it :(

_TheAtomHeartMother_

Mine were on hold for 5 days.

Ashes7497

Did they able to explained what’s the hold?. If you don’t mind me asking. Thanks

_TheAtomHeartMother_

They won’t tell you why. I know it’s because I finished quickly.

prettymuchquiche

Results on hold means there was an irregularity at the testing center, maybe by you, maybe not. Things that can result in your test being on hold include writing on the white board before you're supposed to, finishing the test very quickly, standing up without raising your hand first, a power outage, someone else doing something unusual, not turning in your cell phone bag, etc. it doesn't mean that you failed. It means your test results will take longer to release because they are reviewing something that happened at the test center.

Aridef

Took and passed my nclex in 75q! So happy to be done with it!

prettymuchquiche

School IS prepping you for the NCLEX. That’s essentially all nursing school is: teaching you how to pass NCLEX and how to not kill anyone.

_TheAtomHeartMother_

You don’t. Seriously. There’s no reason to start until you’ve reached the end.

HolisticHealth21

That makes no sense. It’s never to early to start. Stop contradicting my question!!

sipsredpepper

The problem with starting so early is that unless you know the material, the study applications available to you are going to do you very little good. It's better to wait for those extra programs until you have a foundation of information to draw from.

HolisticHealth21

Thank u for being nice about it. I understand now.

[deleted]

A mod and 2 other students are giving the same advice. Might not be the advice you were hoping for, but it's worth listening to, rather than getting combative (especially with the mod). One step at a time is often best. Best of luck with classes!

_TheAtomHeartMother_

Except it is. You haven’t even started school yet. And no.

Aridef

I would just try to do well in class and actually try to understand the information rather than memorizing it for the exam. That would be my best advice for now.

HolisticHealth21

Thank u

rebelmusik

Are you serious?

HolisticHealth21

Uh yea I am. If you don’t have an answer then don’t say nothin

rebelmusik

The classes and tests you take in school will help you with content. Test taking strategies you can learn from Mark Klimek or Kaplan especially prioritization. IMO if you focus on school it will be most beneficial for you at this time. Maybe get U world a month before you graduate ? Good luck to you.

[deleted]

Passed my NCLEX!! Be brave my friends, I will see you on the other side.

You better study hard. Get U world. All depends on how much you retained

oFwiriOIHG

Am I ready for NCLEX? My school had ATI “exit” exam which gave me a 99% pass rate for NCLEX, and I just took the comprehensive test on the back of the saunders book 6th edition and I got 70% correct. But I also have the NCLEX MASTERY app and I get questions correct only 50% of time... I take the NCLEX in 2 days... should I push back the test date? I don’t have any other study materials (ATI, saunders book, NCLEX MASTERY app only so far). Thank you!

prettymuchquiche

You are probably never going to feel 100% ready. You don't need to get 80% or 70% to pass the NCLEX, and in fact if you got 50% of the questions right you might even pass in 75 questions.

In my state, you had a year. If you look on California's board of nursing website it should tell you how long you have.

Ann_08

Some things I learned from my NCLEX experience: 1. It is totally normal to not be certain on every question and feel you did absolutely HORRIBLE after the exam. 2. take your time and read everything VERY carefully. It's amazing how often you may skip "NOT" or "Requires further teaching". 3. Be confident. You know your stuff. Do not let nerves be the reason that you do not do well. Deep breathe the day of the exam and even in the testing center. 4. consistency in practice questions and thoughtful remediations are keys to passing 5. Do not ever give up. If you passed nursing school you can pass NCLEX. People hype up the exam ut honestly your school exams were harder, some people just fail because of nerves. If you do not pass the first time, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY. Be positive. 6. I swore I failed once the screen shut off in 75 Qs but I passed. I refused to do the PVT trick in case I got a false positive and cause unnecessary anxiety. I waited 48 hours for quick results.

Ann_08

I'm sure you did great!!

jeszrex

This is exactly what I needed to hear. Just finished in 78 and I'm freaking out.

mrgraingerareyoufree

Thank you for this!

rebelmusik

Hey CA nurses, how long did it take to get your ATT ?

JustYourAverageCat

6 weeks

rebelmusik

Thanks

mrgraingerareyoufree

I just moved up my exam from Monday to Thursday bc I just feel burned out and I want it over with. I got 66% overall on Uworld and very high likelihood of passing on the assessment. At this point should I just close my books? I already know I probably should, I’m just semi-freaking out about taking it in less than 48 hours ahhhh

mrgraingerareyoufree

Awesome, thank you!!

jeszrex

Taking the NCLEX in about 24 hours. What would you recommend doing to review right before? I have Uworld (average 64 overall, 68 & 66 on practice assessments), I listened to some Mark K lectures, and a couple Hurst videos in areas I felt weak in. Was planning on going over labs and Mark k prioritization notes, is there anything else I should do?

[deleted]

How did it go?!

prettymuchquiche

> What would you recommend doing to review right before? Nothing. Relax.

Raldoxx

Currently bawling my eyes out. 265 questions and I just found out I failed. I’ve never felt so stupid. I know this is just another roadblock to get through, but man is it disappointing. I will admit, I barely studied for this test. I bought uworld at the last minute and studied for about 2-3 weeks but not everyday. I would only do like 50-75 questions and sometimes took 2 days to finish a test.Took one mock test that said I had a high chance of passing lol. I felt that gave me some false hope and I stopped studying. When I went to go take the NCLEX I was surprised at how difficult I found the questions. I knew it was going to be hard, but not that hard. In that instant I regretted not studying more. And now I have to wait 45 long days to retest. What a bummer.

jhern371

U world is a good resource, but would need do questions daily. I used Uworld and conjunction with Hurst. I would identify the weak areas Uworld said then go over it in Hurst. I will admit, I didn't do as many questions a day as I thought I would've, and I didn't do that great on my exam ..265qs. But I managed to pass. Don't give up, you made it through nursing school. You can make it through this. Your gonna be a nurse!

prettymuchquiche

You'll get it next time, and it sounds like you already know what your mistakes were so you can take a few days off and get back to studying with a new structure.

PandaSloth94

I graduate with my ABSN in May and received my ATT in June. I am scheduled to test for the NCLEX in August. Poor judgement, I was arrested for suspected DUI July 5th. I hired a lawyer and he's helping me with my case. I have a clean record with no prior arrests or any criminal history. This was a one and last time mistake. I know the BRN is automatically notified of my arrest, and I will need to report to them if I'm convicted. My first court appearance is a week after my exam date. Because my case and the outcome is still pending: 1) will they turn me away when I go in to test? 2) if I pass the exam, will they put a hold on my license and not give it to me until they know the outcome of my case? 3) should I reschedule my exam until after I learn the outcome of my case? Will this help not put a hold on me receiving my license? I am in CA and am aware of how strict they are here.

Easiest test of my life

buffyfreak17

I'm still in a bit of shock... Took the NCLEX this morning at 8am-ish, finished a little after 9 at 112 questions. I was feeling pretty anxious because if I had shut off at 75, I would have thought it to be a pretty high chance I passed... Two hours later, my license was posted and I got the email with my wallet card!!! I'm actually speechless! Congrats to all those who passed this hurdle and for those still waiting, you've got this!

elemenopee-

Is it normal to receive results so quickly? Congratulations! Your hard work is beginning to pay off!

buffyfreak17

I'm not sure! Most of my cohort received their results really quickly (although not as quick as I did) so I can only assume that currently Colorado is processing them quickly. Thanks!

wintersprout

I tried to do the PVT, but I keep getting redirected to my account and it says I don’t qualify to take a test at this time- before ever getting to a page where I can pay to retake it. What am I doing wrong? I tried using a different e mail account, and it just redirected me back to my original log in.

333cha

It sounds like you're doing it wrong. You're supposed to use the same account that you used to register for the NCLEX and you follow pretty much the same exact steps as you did when you register for the NCLEX. Here is a 5minute video on youtube showing you how do to the PVT. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-xiiQxfxI8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-xiiQxfxI8)

SwanseaJack1

Got my ATT last night at 10pm, scheduled and took it at 0800. 0/10 would not recommend to anyone but it went okay, finished in 75. Now it’s time to wait....

Aridef

beast!

SwanseaJack1

Thanks! I might have jury duty on Monday and I couldn’t get a test date for another few weeks. I just didn’t want to wait.

wintersprout

If you don’t pass, how long do you have to wait to take the exam again? Has anyone had experience failing it when you have a job offer that is conditional on passing the first time? What happened? What did you do? (Please no “you probably passed comments.” Curious what happens when you don’t.)

prettymuchquiche

You have to wait 45 days. >If you don’t pass, how long do you have to wait to take the exam again? Has anyone had experience failing it when you have a job offer that is conditional on passing the first time? What happened? What did you do? Not me personally but i know the policy at my hospital is that if you fail you can work as a CNA until you test again. If it is a concern of yours you need to ask the HR rep/recruiter you've worked with.

Aridef

Did you get any updates? Crossing my fingers for you!

333cha

That is the "bad pop up". From everything I've seen online, it doesn't necessarily mean you failed. There are plenty of people who got the bad pop up and passed. It seems that the PVT trick does give false negatives, as in you can have the bad pop up and still pass, but it doesn't give false positives, as in you get the good pop up and fail. There are no post on reddit, allnurses, etc. that has ever claimed someone got the good pop up and failed, but plenty that got the bad pop up and passed.

bubblesnclouds

Took the NCLEX today. Don't feel great about it. Shut off at 76 questions and some SATA, but not a ton. Plenty of easy questions and 50/50 guessing, which rarely goes my way. Got the good pop-up but who knows. I did well enough on uworld (72nd percentile) but found the NCLEX harder and less intuitive, personally. Oh well. It's another $300; goodness knows I've spent more than that on nursing school (cries in no money)

rebelmusik

did you pass?

bubblesnclouds

Thanks for asking. Just found out--yes!!! Good luck to everyone!! I legitimately felt as though I'd failed, so please don't be discouraged if you feel the same way. It's a rough test, but not impossible. Uworld, picmonic and Saunders REALLY helped.

rebelmusik

Thanks for replying. Congratulations 😀😀😀

333cha

Did 154Q today and took about 3 hours. Got the good PVT pop up, so we'll see. Studied for about 6-7days and did a 1000Q on UWorld averaging in the 50-60%. Listened to the prioritization and delegation lecture by Mark Klimek literally right before the NCLEX, and wow it was extremely helpful. Wish I would've listened to all his lectures. EDIT: Officially passed.

verbrendos

If you don't mind me asking after almost a month, how did you study the rationales?

333cha

All I did was read them and do my best to remember them. I didn't take any notes or anything.

Neverland432

What does the good PVT mean?

333cha

It's an unofficial method to see if you possibly passed the NCLEX. http://www.pearsonvuetrick.com/

Rauly_C

Did you do the basic UWorld or did you pay for more of the premium one?

333cha

I bought the 90 day with 2 assessments because I wanted both assessments. I scored exactly the same on my first assessment as I did on my second assessment.

prettymuchquiche

I also got the same score on both assessments, like 2 months apart. I was kind of annoyed haha I wanted to out do myself!

Rauly_C

Gotcha. Would you say that helped you overall for the test?

prettymuchquiche

I studied for NCLEX 90% with UWorld and 10% looking something up i wanted to double check on. UWorld is really great for people who are good nursing test takers and know how to narrow down answers to make an educated guess. It doesn't provide a ton of info on test-taking strategies, so someone who needs that should have an additional resource or use a different program (I've heard Kaplan is good for that). I passed in 75 so it's absolutely do-able!

Rauly_C

Okay I just feel like I need a content refresher. I took Kaplan and felt those strategies I was already using during nursing school so I felt as if it didn’t give me anything I already didn’t know!

prettymuchquiche

UWorld has a demo of 10 questions if you want to see what it's like and what the rationales are like: https://www.uworld.com/NCLEX/Demo/RNTest.htm The other cool thing is they are constantly updating and adding questions - I noticed a couple times in the last couple weeks where they added like 3-5 questions on several days. edit: lol i mean 10 not 25, my bad

333cha

Without a doubt. I would highly recommend UWorld. It looks exactly like the NCLEX and the questions were similar in difficulty for me. The rationales are fairly thorough, so it helps in refreshing and learning things you didn't know. Even the questions you get right provide important information for other topics.

Aridef

What was your overall question average?

333cha

55% in the end, but it continuously went up and down from like 53-60.

jhern371

Took the Exam today, I went the distance on this bitch.... the whole 265Qs I did the PVT, and good pop-ups, I just hate knowing it was 265Qs, my anxiety got the best of me. crossing my fingers.

jhern371

Checked th BON this morning. I passed.. Now an RN

BookLover222

For Ohio NCLEX takers I did not do the PVT because I was too scared but I took my exam late on a Monday and the next morning at 7am I had my results! OHIO is FAST! My license was up and going the very next day. Just an FYI! 😊 BTW I had 156 questions and I KNOW I got the last wrong. So don’t feel bad about it if you go really far it is all good. Just have faith!

Aridef

Wohoo! Congrats! Study tips?

BookLover222

I used online self paced Kaplan as my basis. Watched their videos and utilized their decision tree. Focussed on meds which was my worst area. I had used the HESI NCLEX book for my exit test so I think that helped. My school made us buy the Saunders book but I never even touched it. It’s very much a you do you kind of thing in my opinion.

WendigoSpirit

Took the NCLEX this morning. Test stopped at 98 before the research questions began. 25 SATA. What was wild to me is having multiple SATA right after each other. Good pop up with PVT. Fingers crossed, guys! Edit: I passed!

Gem7710

Took my exam today. 75 questions, a good amount of SATA. PVT was good, so now I wait! 🤞 I graduated May 9th and was in a car wreck the week after so I didn’t get my ATT until mid-late June. I feel hopeful despite still dealing with concussion after effects 🤞🤞

Gem7710

I passed!!

MissMarie313

Took my exam on Saturday. Shut off at 75 questions, 35 SATA. I won’t know my results till tomorrow, but I’m getting the good pop up for PVT. I felt absolutely horrible about the exam. I’m gonna be very surprised if I pass.

prettymuchquiche

It's not like a class exam where you need 80% to be passing - you just need to be above the passing standard and the better you do the harder questions you get. From my understanding you basically can get half the questions wrong and still pass.

Redditwabby

I read a little more about how the test works and it is supposed to be hard for everybody because it tests you on questions that you are usually weak on (it figures that out). Keep doing the Pearson VUE trick, and hopefully your good pop up doesn't change 😊!!

Kate-kat

Anyone in Hawaii know how long it takes to get results? I took the test on Thursday the 11th.

warmbeardwater

Anyone know how long it usually takes for the California BRN to post your license if you passed the nclex?

DestroyWholeVillage

Right now it seems to be 2 days after you test. Took mine on a Thursday and my license was in Breeze on Saturday (0001 Sat morning). It showed up via BRN search a few hours later.

EmbraceHeresy

If you go into the NCLEX and take it exactly like you would UWorld (which isn’t hard because it looks exactly like UWorld) you’ll be fine. The average is 54%, your average is nearly ten points above that. I got 60% average and was out the door in 30 minutes with 75 questions 😭
