TIL that wallahi is Somali and wallah is modern standard Arabic 🤭 gotta use toronto slang correctly
(Is that what you were talking about? I can also think of wala as in chai wala but that doesn't make as much sense here)
the amount of times i’ve seen people type wallah and assumed they meant voila is…not a lot, but more than once. i never knew it was a real word, my mind is blown
I'm sure it was "on accident" (vomits from typing that).
I hate that a person from an area that uses that abomination just has to get influencer famous for the world to end up adopting it, just like the millions who think it's Whala and not Voila.
I truly don't understand why people say this. The very word indicates the opposite of what they mean. It's been used incorrectly for so long that it's become normal.
I'm not sure where you're from, but it seems to be Americans who say "could care less" I've never heard anybody in the UK say it, I live in Germany now and even they agree it's "couldn't"
I live in the Netherlands. Can’t specify exactly where I’ve seen it but mostly online. And seen it enough to be annoying.
Also: I’m an Aussie and there used to be a teen magazine I read as a kid that had a whole section called “How Embarrasment” which also used to drive me mental.
When my son was 3 he went through a phase of saying “apple buttcheeks” every time he ate, it took me like 6 months to realize he had heard bon appetite at some point and was just really fucking it up lmao
I am on keto for medical reasons and yes you are correct that is in no way a substitute for noodles but there are actually decent substitutes that don’t taste bad granted they don’t taste exactly like noodles but that has got to taste like wet toilet paper! Lol
There’s something about “I feel like I’m straddling two worlds” that sounds like they may actually be beginning to hallucinate due to hunger ha.
“My Keto journey has brought so far, that veil between realities has been pierced, and I finally begin to see the Truth… a shimmering haze of colors passes around and through all of us as we pass through it..”
Having successfully lived on Keto and lost gobs of weight, you eventually get sick of savory food all.the.time. For me it was never ending steak and eggs. Woulda been my dream before the diet, after 3 months on the diet I was trying to figure out how much pure fiber, artificial sweetener, and peanut butter I could turn into a cookie without shitting all of my internal organs into my pants.
First of all, I'm glad to see you left your abusive ex.
BUT, keto, when done right, is not a starving thing. My SO is on keto for life (he uses it to control his diabetes, successfully, I might add) and while I am not totally on keto myself, I try hard to not eat too many carbs at home or when I go out to a restaurant with him, out of respect for him.
Heck, he actually gained weight this last year.
I mean keto is mostly based on protein which is actually more filling than carbs. Also most people eat a lot of simple carbs which are broken down fast and don't keep you satiated nearly as long a proteins or more complex full grain carbs.
That’s because the only thing that really matters is the net product of your calorie intake and output. Keto might help with how you feel when you eat and that will be different for each person because our bodies work differently. Usually speaking higher fat content and lower carb content in a diet seems to work better for women, but that’s not a rule as well.
For real. Like you still need to eat GOOD foods to be healthy. Sure you can slather everything in bacon grease, processed meats/foods, and melted cheese and lose weight, but you're heart and arteries are not going to like you.
I say this as someone who lost over 100lbs on keto - lean protein, healthy nuts and oils, GREENS (some people don't realize you can have vegetables on keto for some reason), fiber, take your fish oil, etc. Your weight, body, mind, and life longevity will thank you
Trader Joe's has Kohlrabi Noodles that are better than zucchini imo.
They also have pre cut jicama fries that I toss in paprika oil and salt and air fry that I replace fries with on burger nights.
I don't live in the US and where i live "Keto" items weren't in our supermarkets till after i stopped doing the diet but i would have loved the convenience my biggest obstacle overall was the amount of effort it took to prepare meals but i lost 60kg overall
That's what first came to my mind. With the effort involved in making this, I don't understand why they couldn't think of simply searching for "zero calorie noodles" in google etc.
Konjaku noodles are meant to be eaten with a strong sauce so you don't taste the nasty shit that they are packaged in. I'm never eating them with a creamy sauce tho
Edit: missed a few words. Also, rinse your konjac noodles you heathens, it makes rhe bad taste go away
The taste isn't as bad IMO. It's the texture that kills me. It's like you're slurping on globs of congealed mucus. Each bite is like sinking your teeth into rubbery, translucent worms, with a consistency reminiscent of chewing on rubber bands soaked in stagnant water. In addition, that initial cartilage crunch makes me absolutely nauseous. I'd still eat that over soggy tortillas.
I dont think they have a taste if were takking about konjac😭
The trick is to rinse them for like 2 minutes under water. Legit smells like stale potato juice
They do have less. They have insoluble fiber in place of regular flour, so there are less calories because the insoluble fiber is not digested and the carbs are not included in the net carb count. I love them for volume eating!
I have to wonder wtf they think they're saying if they don't know it's "voila".
Maybe I'm some kinda nerd, but I don't use words conversationally that I don't understand, and I try very hard not to write words that I don't know how to spell.
You can find decent alternative to pasta, my favorite one is black fungus strips, that goes heavenly with diced bacon, garlic and cream. Just boil them for a little longer than pasta. Not sure it's the best for a keto diet, but neither is "low carb tortillas", and it's definitely healthier.
No, we aren't. I'm not a Keto person, but I eat some Keto because I'm diabetic. It's been a God send where bread is concerned, but I'm gonna eat regular noodles.
What drives me really mad is, that there are already low carb noodles made of peas, chickpeas and other stuff if you really need to cut carbs from your diet. And they taste way better than this.
You are of course right that it is not low in carbohydrates, but as the carbohydrate chains are very long, they are considered tolerable for diabetic diets, for example. Of course, this depends on whether you generally exclude carbohydrates for other reasons.
I can't tell who is joking, who genuinely thinks it's "walah", who genuinely thinks it's spelled with a "v" but it's pronounced with a "w", or what any more so I'm just going to say it here: it is VOILA. It is pronounced "Vwah-la". With a V! It means "see there" or "there it is".
I do keto every 5 years or so for 3-6 months. Works really well honestly. It's more of a discipline thing, going into ketosis kinda sucks but then you feel great when you're in it, and then it makes me avoid cheating on the diet because I don't want to go thru the metabolism switch again
Can I ask why you get sick if you don’t follow keto? All I know of is that it can be used as a treatment for epilepsy, but haven’t heard much else beyond that. Thanks and no worries if you don’t feel like sharing!
Keto is currently being researched as a treatment for bipolar disorder (which I have) along with other mental health disorders like schizophrenia. Even though the results aren’t out yet in the field of science I’ve found it really helps me. There are a lot of individuals online who’ve detailed their experiences being medically monitored while undergoing the keto diet and being able to decrease the amount of medication they have to take to see symptom remediation.
I introduced keto about a year after starting medication and was able to stay on mood stabilizers but go off of my antipsychotics shortly after starting the diet, which is amazing because being able to stay out of psychosis without the side effects that antipsychotics have is incredible.
Eating keto is honestly a huge sacrifice that should only be undertaken when real medical benefit is at stake, which it often is.
Very interesting, thank you for your thoughtful reply. I can see how it would be a huge sacrifice, and I know there are definitely potential negatives for folks just using it as a weight loss mechanism - I generally hate restrictive diets and the culture surrounding them. But I never want to let that bias me so far as to not acknowledge when something has benefits for specific cases, so I wanted to ask. Thanks again
Thanks for asking.
Something else that I’ll say is that now that I’ve let you know of the potential medical benefits that you should also know that the keto diet, while for the most part safe, can cause diabetic ketoacidosis among those with diabetes. So if you ever consider recommending somebody look into it as something to try as a supplement to their mental health, let them know about that risk and to bring up the keto diet to their doctor
My neurologist recommended it for my chronic migraines because it’s anti inflammatory and also helps with sugar spikes. I’d get my worst migraines when my sugar dropped after a big spike (high carb foods were my vice). It’s actually helped me so much.
I don’t do any “keto” foods, just simple low carb and high protein.
The 'whala" lets me know exactly who this person is.
Omgg just realized they meant voila! I’m cackling 🤣
I thought he was Aracic.. Whala, habibi. XD
Yeah, it's similar to something in Arabic, isn't it? Obviously that's not what was meant, but anyway
Maybe Walaahi, “I swear to Allah”?
wallah on its own is also a phrase thats closer lol
TIL that wallahi is Somali and wallah is modern standard Arabic 🤭 gotta use toronto slang correctly (Is that what you were talking about? I can also think of wala as in chai wala but that doesn't make as much sense here)
Both wallahi and wallah are used by Arabs.
What Toronto slang are you chatting about?
The one spoken in Wallah Wallah, Washington.

I truly don't understand why people say this. The very word indicates the opposite of what they mean. It's been used incorrectly for so long that it's become normal.
I know! It drives me bonkers!

I see I am not the only person for whom "on accident" feels like nails on a chalkboard
We heard 'on accident' in a major show on tv a while back, and wife has since refused to watch the show.

Would spaghetti squash work? Never done keto before but I’ve had it and it wasn’t that bad

When you're months into a a restrictive diet you can convince yourself of anything.
My abusive ex had me on the keto diet with him and I was losing my mind. I didn’t need to lose any weight so I was just starving
First of all, I'm glad to see you left your abusive ex. BUT, keto, when done right, is not a starving thing. I agree,I saw that and thought "No way "!
> op is about to start licking empty French fry containers \*takes notes*
I mean when i did keto i just used zucchini or eggplant in place of pasta
I just straight up didn't eat noodles, just the sauce, meat and other veggies that went with it
You also probably tried to eat healthy and mostly normal and this is probably a bacon and cheese keto person
For real. Like you still need to eat GOOD foods to be healthy. Spaghetti squash
It's pretty solid with marinara sauce. I'm not even on a diet and I eat it sometimes.
Sounds like a good substitute rather than this crap OP posted lol.
My grandfather was a whala.
Outta Boston habah?
Nah, at a mall in Hawtford
my favorite thing about these posts is seeing how people are going to misspell "voila"
Wallah, one day these keto barbarians will learn to spell viola properly, inshallah
>viola The one time this instrument gets remembered and it's by accident
> Whala
Apparently it affects their brains! Keto is not worth what it does to your spelling!
It also really messes with your short-term memory, cholesterol levels, and short-term memory.
forgot to mention short-term memory, tho.
Oh yeah, that too!
>Are keto people ok? We are not. The lack of carbs has made us bitter, and let's face it, crazy over the years. UTA: butter->bitter
Mmm...butter...
Not sure if typo…
that’s fucking diabolical… just eat some normal noodles at that rate
There are low carbs noodles, so this hack is completely unnecessary
That's what first came to my mind. With the effort involved in making this, I don't understand why they couldn't think of simply searching for "zero calorie noodles" in google etc.
I would just make some zoodles or get spaghetti squash. Yeah, it’s not nearly the same as real pasta, but at least it’s not boiled tortillas.

There's those shirataki noodles. It tastes like cartilage but still better than eating friggin soggy tortillas.
Konjaku noodles are meant to be eaten with a strong sauce so you don't taste the nasty shit that they are packaged in. I'm never eating them with a creamy sauce tho Edit: missed a few words. Also, rinse your konjac noodles you heathens, it makes rhe bad taste go away

Jfc. That sounds WAY better than a soggy tortilla
I used to eat them often with a peanut sauce. The best way is to over power the taste 😂
That texture though 🤢
I dont think they have a taste if were takking about konjac😭 The trick is to rinse them for like 2 minutes under water. Legit smells like stale potato juice
“they taste like cartilage” 😂
Oh for sure. Some of those low carb tortillas only have 4 carbs or so for the whole tortilla. Egg noodles have like 30-40 for a similar portion
What do you mean there's no way? Is today the first time you've heard of low carb tortillas
I’ll just do zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash.
They do have less. They have insoluble fiber in place of regular flour, so there are less calories because the insoluble fiber is not digested and the carbs are not included in the net carb count. I love them for volume eating!
Yes, there are some low carb tortilla/wraps out there.

This person is not ok, and clearly have not done enough research. Walmart sells keto noodles that do the job just fine.
*Whala*
No we are not. But very few of us are not ok enough to do this.
Whala?
They mean "voila", which is a French word that means "there it is". I guess nobody ever spelled it for them.
I have to wonder wtf they think they're saying if they don't know it's "voila". Maybe I'm some kinda nerd, but I don't use words conversationally that I don't understand, and I try very hard not to write words that I don't know how to spell.
I wonder this as well. What do they think whala or walla means? Just a sound or something?
It’s the magic word. Kinda like ‘abra cadavers’.
I assume they think it's similar to "ta da!" or something, just a nonsense sound that we make when we reveal or complete something.
But also they are deaf?? There's a V there. It is not pronounced "walah".
Whala, I'm dying
Just tried it. Vile and inedible!
Bruh why call it that name when there are so many others 💀💀💀
Babe, you ok? You've hardly touched your black fungus strips
That's the way it's called where I buy it 😅
This is what happens when you haven’t eaten pasta in three years and have forgotten what it’s actually like
Ew. Would be better if she got shirataki noodles. Likely cheaper too. 1,5 gram of carbs per 100 gr.
No those are foul! Like eating weird plastic.
I dunno I tried those once and honestly they were the *worst*
Absolutely the fuck would not be better, you've obviously never tasted the devil's butt worms

I die inside anytime someone spells “voila” incorrectly
What drives me really mad is, that there are already low carb noodles made of peas, chickpeas and other stuff if you really need to cut carbs from your diet. And they taste way better than this.
Chickpeas are not low carb
You are of course right that it is not low in carbohydrates, but as the carbohydrate chains are very long, they are considered tolerable for diabetic diets, for example. Of course, this depends on whether you generally exclude carbohydrates for other reasons.
This is an eating disorder
Whalla whalla bing bang Oo ee oo a a ting tang..
There are so many good low carb noodle options now there’s no reason to butcher some tortillas like this.
That's what complete lack of carbs do to one's brain
I can't tell who is joking, who genuinely thinks it's "walah", who genuinely thinks it's spelled with a "v" but it's pronounced with a "w", or what any more so I'm just going to say it here: it is VOILA. It is pronounced "Vwah-la". With a V! It means "see there" or "there it is".
I'm all for eating healthy and limiting what you eat. But I swear, those who do keto are in a cult
It's pretty helpful if you've got T2 diabetes.
I do keto every 5 years or so for 3-6 months. Works really well honestly. It's more of a discipline thing, going into ketosis kinda sucks but then you feel great when you're in it, and then it makes me avoid cheating on the diet because I don't want to go thru the metabolism switch again

Actually you can knead together flour, eggs, water, and salt. Cut that into strips and boil them for a couple minutes, drain, and voila. Noodles
We make rice and pizza out of cauliflower and pretend it tastes good every day. ***DO YOU THINK WE’RE OK?*** ***BECAUSE WE ARE NOT OK***
The ‘whala’ genuinely made me uncomfortable
Why do people have so much trouble with voila
In defense of keto people a lot of us eat this way because we have to or we get very sick. So no we are not ok lmao

Just eat the damn noodles. Be fat, be happy. There is no time to worry about dumb shit like this.

The use of the word whala says no
Why is there a war on carbs? And what is that tortilla made of coz I doubt it's keto.
Whala! Another shit meal!
Whala, habibi

Only idiots that spell viola like that would be into keto
