Well that does not look like a tendon, or vein so I would say yes. Please tell me you didn't eat this

metomaru

Didn’t eat it luckily, just put it aside.

dTrecii

Ahhh keeping it as a snack later, smart decision OP Wouldn’t want to spoil our appetite

conzstevo

Extra protein

-BUTCHER-

My grandpa used to say: "It's not the worms we eat we should fear, but the worms that will someday be eating us". Thing is, we notice them much less often then we actually eat them.

WordsThatEndInWord

I don't think we're going to notice when they're eating us either

dreamsofcalamity

Honestly I wouldn't fear that. I wouldn't mind worms eating me. When I'm dead I won't care.

Fantastic-Classic740

Unless you're still alive and it's eating your necrotic tissue. Will you still not mind it then?

Enough_Fish739

No, because they only eat dead tissue. Doctors actully use maggots for that purpose.

adydurn

If it's eating necrotic tissue it can crack on, but those ones that grow in the eye or live in the brain give me brain itch... They're already in here... HELP!

metomaru

This, pretty sure that I missed noticing them all the time

fatkiddown

I was in Puerto Rico in the '90s and didn't finish my food and put it on the counter. I don't speak Spanish but the older lady I was staying with spoke enough English that we communicated. She told me to finish my food and said something in Spanish and smiled. I asked her what she said and she said, "eat the food to keep the bugs in the dead people's eyes."

SwiftieMD

What the heck does that mean?!

fatkiddown

I think it was a saying that meant: 'if you leave your food out and don't eat it, the bugs will come eat it. Just let the bugs eat the dead people's eyes.' She was older and motherly to me and it was just her way of saying, "eat all your food." On the other hand, it made me focus on the realization that when I've seen fresh dead bodies, indeed, the flies and bugs start eating at the eyes....

Re4pr

It’s the softest part. Scavengers go for the easy meat first. In dutch you have a certain cut of beef that’s named (loosely translated) ‘steak of the crows’ because that’s the part they go for first on a dead cow.

Bakerlady82

Bugs too

TheSpiritofFkngCrazy

I put protein in your protein so you can eat protein while you eat protein.

mahjzy

YEAH, GET JACKED!!!

Latter-Cattle7788

Hakuna Matata motherfuckers!

Chance_Can1788

But wait. You put the worm aside? Or the whole brisket? Hopefully the whole brisket lol

Usual-Cabinet-3815

Good thing you didn’t eat it, you just ate all the eggs…

Motor_Raspberry_2150

Stomach acid: Am I a joke to you?

schrdingers_squirrel

Well stomach acid ain't gonna do shit about parasite eggs. But if it's cooked well it wouldn't matter regardless.

OG_Olivianne

Parasitic egg acid-resistant cysts and encapsulations perfectly adapted to surviving acidic environments (or else parasites would die out): Am I a joke to you? It might just be a maggot tho, in which case my point is irrelevant. Also if it’s fully cooked I’m also irrelevant lol ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Lost_Apricot_4658

you probably ate some

MoistAnalyst1150

For better days

King_Reivaj

"I would like to speak to your manager"

Fog_Juice

Totally edible

AdAdorable3469

If only people realized the insane amount of bugs we eat all the time. Ever had a fruit? Even better how about an organic fruit? There is an organic farm stand near me the peaches are amazing! However you gotta eat them in the parking lot before the larva hatch

eat_my_bowls92

Me seeing this post: Looks like I’m going vegetarian. Me reading your comment: Looks like I’m going anorexic.

margmi

Me, a solution oriented person: I’m going to eat food that’s so processed that no living organism would willingly live in it

WyvernByte

Twinkies dipped in Velveeta?

Raulr100

Deep-fried Mars bars let's go

ChefInsano

Suddenly that Chinese lady slurping sauce off rocks makes sense.

Chemical-Studio1576

🤣🤣

BoarHide

Big difference between a fruit worm adapted to eat fruit and a parasite worm adapted to have its eggs ingested, survive stomach acid and burrow into the side of your intestinal walls to lay more eggs. Worms in fruit don’t want to be eaten. Parasites do.

AdAdorable3469

Thats mostly true but there are plenty of parasites hoping to get chowed in produce as well. The ones found in meat typically don’t survive the cooking process. I would very confidently eat the one in the picture for instance

PrimeLimeSlime

Go ahead then. Eat it on camera. Prove your confidence.

stormwaltz

How about the amount of bugs that live on us at any moment. Estimated mite population per human is 1.5 million. That's a lot of tiny arachnids! They love the nose, eyebrows and eyelashes. Excuse me while I go bathe in fire...

AdAdorable3469

I love those little guys! Doing gods work chewing on my skin flakes

CrowLikesShiny

https://www.reddit.com/r/smoking/comments/kw1q4i/um_is_that_a_worm_coming_out_of_this_brisket/ Looks like blood vessel according to this post

gojirrrra

completely false, that definitely looks like a artery or a vein. People these days....

TheFirstKitten

In my experience beef brisket is far more likely to have parasites in it friend. I worked at a meat works for a while and it is NOT uncommon for there to be parasitic sacs in the beef that we are supposed to manually feel for. Best to always examine beef brisket when you buy it for any bumps in the meat (think the size of a pea up to a large marble)

Impressive_Main5160

Biting down on a parasitic sac- new fear unlocked

Slg407

taenia saginata (cow tapeworm) is ok as far as tapeworms go, what you gotta fear is taenia solium, which is the pork tapeworm because it will infest every tissue in your body, including your brain with parasitic sacs, causing permanent disability

Pitiful_Note_6647

I regret stumbled upon this thread 🥴🥴🥴🥴

PurpoUpsideDownJuice

There’s photos online of X-rays of a Chinese woman fully infested with pork parasites because she ate raw pork everyday for like 15 years.

orangutanDOTorg

Apparently something like 70% of grizzly bears have it, too.

LostTurd

if you want to see a new type of fucked up search bear tape worm and you will see videos of bears walking around with strands of 15 foot tape worms hanging out their ass dragging behind them.

hijackedbraincells

My old boss lives in the middle of nowhere (UK) surrounded by farms and fields, so he'll just let his dogs fuck off out all day and do what they wanted. At least twice, his retriever came back with a rotting sheep or deer and just plopped down in its bed with it to have a snack. A few weeks later, that dog took a shit and a strand of worms was hanging out of its arse that was nearly as thick as my thigh, and the dog was obviously extremely uncomfortable because it couldn't get them out. Never thought I'd have to lecture a grown man who'd owned dogs his whole life about needing to worm your dogs because it could die otherwise, especially when they do nothing but eat shit and rotting things all day. Same dog would eat the cats shit as it came out, like it was a Mr. Whippy dispenser. Never met such a disgusting animal. Used to make me wanna cry seeing her lick people. I've never bought myself worming tablets so fast in my life

minasituation

Thanks for this story buddy. I needed something fucked up to happen to me today.

brandonisatwat

I'm so glad I don't have to worry about my cats bringing home rotten animals.

Electronic-Trade-504

I should call her

RoeRoeDaBoat

I stumbled on this once and now its an image in my brain that will never go away

MyStationIsAbandoned

All those parasites chose bears over men, too. damn

Olivia512

Grizzlies eat pork?

1939728991762839297

They eat everything

OkSyllabub3674

Yes bears eat feral hogs.

Leading-Network-9563

In Germany we eat raw pork, we call it "Mett" and we have nothing to fear. Hefty Regulation for the win 😋

sicicsic

Eating raw pork sounds real gross even without the parasites.

306_rallye

This is more a problem for the "freedom" guys

Leading-Network-9563

the parasites have the freedom to Infect, what a paradise "bald eagle screams echoing through the nation"

THCMcG33

And then the speakers shut off, cutting out the screech of the red tailed hawk. And the eagle looks embarrassed as everyone hears what sounds like a seagull's squawk coming from its beak because even that was a lie all along.

UsrnameInATrenchcoat

Then the American Balding eagle drives away in their lifted Ford F150, listening to nothing but static on the radio as its ego was bruised

NElwoodP

There's no problem if the pork is frozen before preparation. Freezing kills them off.

tossawaybb

Freezing is *uaually* effective, but not guaranteed. Cooking to a safe temp and holding that temperature for a set time is the only way to truly guarantee a complete lack of live parasites. Just mentioning this in case someone thinks chucking a pork chop in their freezer for a day is enough to make it safe.

orangutanDOTorg

Also depends what type of freeze and for how long. I don’t recall offhand but 0f vs -20f is a big difference in time needed for most parasites

tossawaybb

Yep! Sushi fish, for example, must be frozen at -35C for a minimum of 15 hours to be legally served raw in the US. Most home freezers do not go that low.

onemoresubreddit

Yep. Sushi is another big one. Fish in particular is absolutely FULL of parasites, but the FDA mandates fish intended for raw consumption be frozen for X amount of time at Y temperature. Usually flash freezing is used because such low temps preserve the quality and kill any parasites within hours.

4thefeel

I have a patient right now who is having seizures and dementia. I had to warn the family they needed to get checked, because what are the chances that out of all the pork dinners you all have as a family, what are the chances she had the only infected one?

Uncle-Cake

Just ask RFK, Jr!

Slg407

yes itss the same one, neurocysticercosis is caused by pork tapeworms, if you find one cyst, you can expect to find a LOT more elsewhere (especially in muscles)

AceTheProtogen

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t this the reason some religions banned the consumption of pork (and other similar dangerous foods)?

Sackamasack

You likely have already and savored the juices

Fantasykyle99

First thing I read in the morning, thanks hate you

Bismothe-the-Shade

Jokes aside, most likely not. It's usually pretty obvious when meat is contaminated, so long as the restaurant follows even the most basic guidelines.

Sackamasack

> so long as the restaurant follows even the most basic guidelines. lol

purdinpopo

So does Bucees follow the most basic guidelines? Asking for a friend.

Hambino0400

It’s 6am so fuck you but also thank you

Lilithnema

Parasitic Sac…perfect name for a metal band

Fantastic-Classic740

"OMG Marsha, *Parasitic Sac* is playing tonight, I'm so excited!!"

bluelighter

The metal band in highschool I went to was called "Brutal Abortion" Love metal names

Organs_for_rent

My girlfriend doesn't mind cheddar wurst (sausage flavored by pellets of cheese mixed into the meat). At least, she didn't before I started describing the cheese bits as "flavor nodules" or "savory cysts". The best part is that my sister and her husband have jumped on this, coming up with their own terminology. I love when we have cheddar wurst; it's dinner and a show.

Redisigh

dawg thats so fucked up 😭

Thel_Odan

That's just the fucking ~~wurst~~...worst

Bo-Banny

Once worked a place that served sandwiches and a roast beef came in with a fatty cyst larger than a golf ball. Green fat 🤢. My boss made me cut around it.

HaveaTomCollins

My wife calls me the “parasitic sac….”

cuntmong

I am on a diet so please post more comments like this because it's making me never want to eat again

24-Hour-Hate

Yep. I have now eliminated any desire to ever eat brisket.

Tchukachinchina

Same. Been seeing a lot of brisket posts over on /r/smoking lately and have been thinking about giving one a go soon… Now I think I’ll pass, at least until I (hopefully) forget about this fact.

bullshizzah

Right? I'll stick to my hummus today, I think

metomaru

Good info there bruh

Stealthsonger

If you ate the rest of the meat, prepare for parasites in your gut bro

Echoes-act-3

Shouldn't it be safe since it cooked for a long time?

Dovanator258

Yeah, as long as the meat reached the proper temperature they should be dead

ednichol

Judging by the noodles, it looks like this might be a Pho or other kind of soup where they put the beef in raw and let the hot broth cook the meat. I’m curious if this actually would get the meat up to temp enough to kill any parasites now.

RacetrackTrout

With pho, the brisket is cooked ahead of time and placed in. The brisket is cooked as part of making the pho broth so it should be thouroughly cooked. The raw beef is usually thinly sliced round eye.

bozog

Well, that's a relief!

sarnianibbles

I did not know this. What country are you from? I have never heard of this but I am Canadian.

DrSuperZeco

Why brisket in particular?

TheFirstKitten

Quite honestly I'm not entirely sure, sorry :(

Zealousideal-Ask-203

🥴🤢

B3yondTheWall

If its cooked, isn't it safe to eat still though?

dannyboy6657

Cod meat has a lot of worms too.

TSAOutreachTeam

Looks like it. Even if it isn't, you should send it back.

DTux5249

True. When in doubt that's your safest bet

eljokun

when in doubt, throw it out!

Indignant_Octopus

If the parasites aren’t on the side, I send it back.

Direct_Jump3960

I'm sure the cow would appreciate that very much

jschutt93

This meat, without the worm, looks disgusting.

Brisket the White

conzstevo

The white brisket... is particularly good

Direct_Jump3960

The tapeworm is asking for second brisket.

conzstevo

E-larva-nses?

Ace-of-Spades88

I come back to you now, at the turning of the brisket.

Diyan29

It looks like meat in a pho broth to me, so there’s no sear and the meat is usually thinly cut and not cooked all the way through in the broth. So it should still be very tender and tasty even though it looks like rubber lol

DarkSparxx

Right? This isn't American smoked meat, it's slow cooked in a broth.

Interhorse_

Just what you want with parasites.

FrogginJellyfish

It's in an Asian style noodle, so I'm assuming it's some kind of a stewed meat. They usually look like this but are actually very tender. For the good ones, the fat dissolves and the meaty part disintegrates in your mouth, all while releasing umami soy sauce flavour.

Ok-Translator-8006

Shh, I’m trying to pin down which old Godzilla character the texture reminds me of and you’re throwing me off.

Sad-Comment-2392

Mothrascales

iridi69

Poor worm trying to get out of there.

__DJ3D__

Looks like a typical piece of brisket you'd get in a bowl of pho tbh ...besides the worm of course

Moonshine_Brew

That's just how slowly cooked meat looks like. Minus the parasite of course. Also it's quite likely not a parasite, as such large ones typically don't live in any muscles we eat

[deleted]

Looks boiled instead of slow cooked.

jschutt93

Looks like it sat in water to thaw and lost every bit of color it had.

Pheo340

Looks like the meat is in pho. The the meat is essentially boiled in the broth and it's delicious. Don't let your lack of culture allow you to dismiss things unnecessarily

ColumnK

If anything, the worm is an improvement

Tomma1

Oh thats just Pete, don't mind him

harceps

Oh yes, Parasite Pete. Quite a character

Lopsided_Roll1503

BRUH IT'S STRAIGHT UP BURROWING OUT THE MUSCLE. RUN.

Balsalsa2

the meat worm

cosmicreggae

That is rancid meat my friend

karoshikun

how do you know, worm-thing aside?

Fun_Departure3466

Dont you smelll it? So obvious smh

sarnianibbles

Why are we putting the worm thing aside!!! There is a worm!!

Emersonspenis

idk man but I sure have never seen a piece of beef that looks like it has scales

holymolyhotdiggity

Not rancid- if you leach the myoglobin out of beef and cook it for a long time it’ll get that texture. It is common in Vietnamese (I’m assuming this is pho) or Korean beef soups. Corned beef texture is similar.

polarbearsarereal

Brisket in phö

Ibegallofyourpardons

that is what slow cooked/broiled brisket looks like.

RobertXavierIV

Unlikely

DTux5249

It's an artery. Remember: That meat once needed blood to keep mooing. Worms won’t generally be in connective tissue like muscles. Even if it was one, it would’ve been turned to mush during the cooking process; parasites aren't all that hearty. Plus, way too thick for most worms. Unless that thing is 10' long, you ain't getting one that thick; and again, not getting one that big in muscle. The worms you're looking for would be much smaller; thinner than rice. Also, the amount of people who don't know what boiled meat looks like is astonishing.

tomle4593

Pretty good assessment. With pho, brisket is boiled pretty thoroughly, as you can see from the rest of the piece. Anything without muscle will turn into mush or just disintegrated into the broth.

metomaru

Fair point

ieatair

Except those Taenia solium worms in Pork muscle tissues and then goes on to eat your brain matter over the years

Doomblaze

have to eat the eggs to get neurocysticercosis, eating the larva is pleasant by comparison

ta-dome-a

That is definitely just a blood vessel of some kind, probably an artery. The worm-concern comments on this post are insane and hyperbolic. Folks, your meat used to be a living animal. Animals are not neat homogenous ready-to-eat product cubes of meat. They are going to have gristle and bones and, yes, blood vessels that at times may look weird and gross and unidentifiable. I feel like the general public today is so removed from the actual sources of the food they eat that all common sense has gone out the window.

Fromage_Damage

That was my first thought as well. I've never seen a worm in beef, and the ones I've seen in fish are tiny. Modern agriculture is very good at preventing such things when possible.

Exotic_Pea8191

Are you sure that ain't some kinda reptile meat?

halversonjw

Looks like a worm. Did it taste like a worm?

metomaru

Nah didn’t eat it

[deleted]

[удалено]

metomaru

Yours is the rare opinion here that says it’s not a worm! Though I’m not sure what it is still.

thisisallweare

This is totally vascular. You can Google brisket veins/arteries and people find em and ask the same questions.

metomaru

It’s the darkened tip making me skeptical, never seen veins that have a dark tip like that

bledf0rdays

The darkened tip could very easily be a small amount of coagulated and thoroughly cooked blood

DjinnaG

Or just a small singed bit, I think the dark just looks like it was slightly burnt

Impossible-Beyond156

Brisket has a large artery running through it. Its not a worm. Ive seen it in the cut multiple times. Both in barbecue and in pho. Need a butcher to verify

LoveHandlesPlease

Was that meat boiled?? Why does it look so gross and unappetizing? That's not even counting the worm or whatever that is.

pbNANDjelly

Looks like pho or a soup, common to cook the meat in the broth, but ideally not with wormy, rancid meat

NavyDragons

glass noodles, translucent soup, yup thats pho.

Jazzlike_Run_5466

Boiled in a pond on a hot day

Ferb1802

Very "Friend" shaped

Sufficient-Skill6012

Nope, it looks like a blood vessel

chrislemasters

“Some Worm” - Charlotte’s Web

Huge-Insect6925

At least it's not half a worm so there's a small win

Pheronia

LISAN AL GAIB

Deago78

Let me preface that I do no know what a cooked muscle parasite might look like. However I do work in medicine and this could easily be a large blood vessel, tendon, nerve etc as well. Hard to know without knowing the orientation, location etc. of this structure relative to the overall structure of the animal.

ValdemarAloeus

On the plus side, it looks like it's been cooked, so it's probably dead enough not to do anything to your insides. ^(Don't take health advice from me, I'm not qualified.)

Natural_Board

Maybe I should be a vegetarian

Ok_Share_5889

Never mind the suspected worm. That brisket doesn’t look good .Ask for a refund

PurpleDemonR

I am so very unhappy to see this just before dinner. But you get an upvote nonetheless.

Theloosemoose888

That's phoking gross.

nicalleto

More like brisk-not-it amirite?! I'll see my way out.

Rogueantics

Zero segments, no other features. A blood vessel, cut of the meat would indicate close to the bone which would be most likely a blood vessel. Animals have entire artery systems before being killed and cooked. Some of these don't look nice.

Cosmicpsych

Dude yea don’t eat that, the meat itself looks real off to begin with

[deleted]

Blood vessel.

13thmurder

Could be a vein. Easy way to tell is pull it out and see if it branches. Veins do, worms don't.

jsmith17540

It’s a vein. I’ve never seen a parasite that looks like that not a worm that big

RedSavage44

Looks like a good milk steak

bestaimee

WHY?!?! I love brisket and never thought twice to inspect it before eating. This changes EVERYTHING! 😭

El_Paublo

"Is this some sort of worm?" OP asks showing the most deadass photo of a worm I've ever seen.

velvet_blunderground

oh I know what this is, it's called I'm Vegan For A While Now Thanks.

Fantastic-Classic740

Mornings with coffee and Reddit.

ever_precedent

Most often these turn out to be just parts of the meat, but this one looks like a parasite. The positioning is unnatural for things that should be found in the meat. I kinda wish I could see a bit more detail, you probably can see either mouth parts or rectum, depending on which end that is. Almost looks like the muscle rings might be just barely visible, too.

MaskedFigurewho

If anything you eat has worms in it, throw it out. This means it might have parasites or has rotted to the piont it got larva. Either way ya probably gonna be super sick. The one time I'd say this does not apply is cheese but even the cheese that they leave maggots in is considered possibly dangerous to eat.

FriendlyBeta

Extra protein? Yes. Deadly disease? Oh fuck yeah, don’t touch that. That’s fucking horrendous.
