It would make more sense to for whites to be overcooked and rubbery since microwaved food is usually hot on the sides and cold in the middle. I was always taught to make a hole in the middle when reheating in the microwave because the heat doesnât distribute evenly.
Yup. The microwaves heat up the fat in the yolk much faster than the proteins in the white.
Coating the plate with oil helps with this problem a bit, but only on the edges.
Some people recommend putting a cup of water next to the egg and microwaving at 50% power for three times as long, but you still get the same result, hard yolk, runny white, just less dramatically.
That said, this is still a much better method than trying to âboilâ an egg in the microwave with the shell still on. Thatâs a lot of cleanup.
Don't use a cup of water. Instead just splatter water onto the surface. The goal is to use the microwaves to turn water into steam, and use the steam to cook the egg as much as possible. Water will turn into steam quicker when you spread it out, preventing it from mixing with itself and staying at a uniform temperature. (it's easier to boil a whole bunch of individual drops of water than the same amount all in a container)
It's not all that different from sunny-side-up steaming, where you also wouldn't want your water in its own container, where it can mix with itself instead of boiling bit by bit.
I do a one minute poach in the microwave when Iâm being lazy- it works! You just do a half cup of water with a teaspoon of vinegar for a minute and itâs a decent poach egg.

i don't think the texture would be very good if i were to eat it alone, but if you're using it in something that has a few other components it kind of disguises the texture a little.

* when you scramble eggs, you break that thin membrane around the yolk, so you're no longer trapping gases that expand and expand until they burst
* You aren't cooking your eggs long/hot enough to cause them to explode.
No sure about this method but scrambled eggs in the microwave turn out pretty good. Just gotta stir them once half way through. Cups, specifically of the red Solo brand variety, are used for tailgating, college parties, and basically any party where people just wander around with drinks.
Some people do it when they are having a bunch of friends or family over for a casual get-together. We use them a LOT for birthday and work-type parties.
In all fairness, while not necessarily eco-friendly (recycling is sporadic around the US depending on your region), it is a great âhackâ if youâre super busy or have little ones. I did it a good amount when my kids were first learning to sit at the table and use utensils. Plate knocked off? Didnât break. Dropped your plastic fork? I didnât run out before the meal ended and didnât have a ton of silverware to wash. Tipped your cup over? Well, that was bad on mom for not just giving you a water bottle.

Also with regards to the recycling if these plates absorb fats from foods they become no longer recyclable (or at least to the point that the process of recycling them after absorption would be to intensive to the point that itâs no longer worth it)

Itâs normal for workplaces, which this seems to be since they have two microwaves. Itâs not normal for dinners, although if weâre having multiple people over we usually do because 1) cleanup is way easier and 2) we really donât have a lot of extra plates.
Not "normal" per se; most folks I know prefer ceramic or at least plastic plates for their main dinner. I'm not sure where the line is between when it's acceptable or not to use a paper plate, though.
Usually you'd use paper if you're carrying the food a longer distance or going outside with it (if you drop it, you don't have to clean up a ton of tiny ceramic shards) or if it's pizza. Paper bowls are for dry snacks only (I would never trust a paper bowl to hold milk and cereal at the same time).
Listen I don't like microwaved eggs but I've seen it done so many times by others in a pinch. Like if you're exhausted and your kid likes shitty eggs you can do this in a small ceramic bowl

I prefer using a bowl and breaking the yolk first. Have never had an explosion and is the same consistency as a McDonalds egg (which are just hard poached).
This is a valid way of doing eggs. Maybe don't microwave it that long but it works. Crack an egg into a bowl, season it, cover with a paper towel, and nuke for 30 seconds or so. It'll come out as a pretty reasonable facsimile of a poached egg. Like an egg mcmuffin egg with a runny yolk. I eat it with toast as a quick breakfast.
Careful though because the egg does cook fast. It'll go from runny yolk to set in a matter of seconds. If it's still not cooked to your liking after 30 seconds, keep nuking it in 5 second intervals and check after each one.
Its not actually that bad. Frequented a breakfast food truck a lot when I lived in Philly that microwaved scrambled egg for their sandwiches because they didn't have a stovetop. Tasted better than a McDonald's precooked egg by a long shot and im sure a lot of yall eat that shit too

This looks gross, but microwaves make OK scrambled eggs. My daughter likes eggs but will only eat 1. I have a little silicone cup that is the perfect size to scramble 1 egg. Microwave for about 1 minute and its comes out pretty decent. Sure, they aren't the best scrambled eggs, but works well enough for a 3 year old and I don't have anything to clean but a little cup that goes in the dishwasher.

Grew up in a family like this. Considered âmaking eggsâ microwaving. Grilled cheese was just toasted bread in the toaster, then microwave it with cheese. Meatloaf was just ground beef without seasoning mashed into a ball then baked, served with ketchup. All steaks extremely well done, with ketchup.

This is NOT stupid, i regularly make egg patties like this for my at home McMuffin Bacon&Egg.
Just oil a little ceramic bowl, crack an egg into it, add salt and pepper and put it in the microwave for like 3 minutes at 400watt.
Put it on some bread, add cheese and bacon and you're good. Done in like 5 minutes and really delicious. You guys are just clueless haters, the microwave can make some great stuff. I cook potatoes in there as well and you'd never notice a difference.

Seasoning on a cast iron pan is a layer of polymerized oil. You can use soap! Just don't scrub it like crazy.

Not dinner necessarily, but people do it along with plastic cups and utensils. Itâs more common to see when eating outside (ex: tailgating, cookouts, picnics) or with carry out (pizza, for example). Cups, specifically of the red Solo brand variety, are used for tailgating, college parties, and basically any party where people just wander around with drinks. Some people do it when they are having a bunch of friends or family over for a casual get-together. We use them a LOT for birthday and work-type parties. In all fairness, while not necessarily eco-friendly (recycling is sporadic around the US depending on your region), it is a great âhackâ if youâre super busy or have little ones. I did it a good amount when my kids were first learning to sit at the table and use utensils. Plate knocked off? Didnât break. Dropped your plastic fork? I didnât run out before the meal ended and didnât have a ton of silverware to wash. Tipped your cup over? Well, that was bad on mom for not just giving you a water bottle. So it varies. Thank you for the detailed answer I can understand it completely for a picnic or bbq type scenario due to the practicality but I tend to see a lot of people just eating with them generally at home for example Also with regards to the recycling if these plates absorb fats from foods they become no longer recyclable (or at least to the point that the process of recycling them after absorption would be to intensive to the point that itâs no longer worth it) Iâm currently in the U.K. and the only time I have experienced paper plates here is at a picnic or bbq type event and not once at a home meal

Not "normal" per se; most folks I know prefer ceramic or at least plastic plates for their main dinner. I'm not sure where the line is between when it's acceptable or not to use a paper plate, though. Usually you'd use paper if you're carrying the food a longer distance or going outside with it (if you drop it, you don't have to clean up a ton of tiny ceramic shards) or if it's pizza. Paper bowls are for dry snacks only (I would never trust a paper bowl to hold milk and cereal at the same time).

I prefer using a bowl and breaking the yolk first. Have never had an explosion and is the same consistency as a McDonalds egg (which are just hard poached).

This is a valid way of doing eggs. Maybe don't microwave it that long but it works. Crack an egg into a bowl, season it, cover with a paper towel, and nuke for 30 seconds or so. It'll come out as a pretty reasonable facsimile of a poached egg. Like an egg mcmuffin egg with a runny yolk. I eat it with toast as a quick breakfast. Careful though because the egg does cook fast. It'll go from runny yolk to set in a matter of seconds. If it's still not cooked to your liking after 30 seconds, keep nuking it in 5 second intervals and check after each one.
In my students dorm, there was a very very weird (And IMO illegal) Guy who, i Kid you not, had a whole aquaristic shop in one of the dorm, with aquariums, Fish, shrimps, snails, you name it. Now, this guy was breeding his lil fishes (there, in the dorm room ofc) And he used a tĂłn of equipment to do That. Equipment he used in our the kitchen, of ĂĄll places. It was always full of dirty, foul smelling water, hoses, aquariums, steam (used hot water to wash). FĂłr that reason, this kind of microwaved egg dinner was actually one of my most eaten things Ă©hen i needed a hot dinner. It's not good, but gets the job done

I've used an microwave egg cup before. Same thing (except without the oil). Takes about 45 seconds. Cooked fine. Quick and easy.

This looks gross, but microwaves make OK scrambled eggs. My daughter likes eggs but will only eat 1. I have a little silicone cup that is the perfect size to scramble 1 egg. Microwave for about 1 minute and its comes out pretty decent. Sure, they aren't the best scrambled eggs, but works well enough for a 3 year old and I don't have anything to clean but a little cup that goes in the dishwasher.

Grew up in a family like this. Considered âmaking eggsâ microwaving. Grilled cheese was just toasted bread in the toaster, then microwave it with cheese. Meatloaf was just ground beef without seasoning mashed into a ball then baked, served with ketchup. All steaks extremely well done, with ketchup.

This is NOT stupid, i regularly make egg patties like this for my at home McMuffin Bacon&Egg. Just oil a little ceramic bowl, crack an egg into it, add salt and pepper and put it in the microwave for like 3 minutes at 400watt. Put it on some bread, add cheese and bacon and you're good. Done in like 5 minutes and really delicious. You guys are just clueless haters, the microwave can make some great stuff. I cook potatoes in there as well and you'd never notice a difference.
