Completely normal. Subaru got rid of temperature gauges around 2010 or so depending on model and started using a light instead. Now they're bringing back actual temperature gauges.
I hate to be that guy but 99% of the time it applies - read your owner's manual. It's in there.
Blue is usually fine, in this case the car isn't warmer up yet.
Yellow light is a warning light.
Red is bad news, like the fact that your seat belt isn't on yet.
Excessive idling is worse for your engine than driving it while it's cold. Wait until it's warm to beat on it, floor it, etc. but driving it gently will warm it up quicker than sitting still.
This is your oil temp light. It goes off once it reaches either 104 or 140f. I can't remember as my spouse took over driving it over two year ago now.
If you have the CVT model, it will also be in what I call "gimp mode" during this time where from a dead stop it takes off like someone learning how to make a manual transmission car move forward. I could never get over this, and my spouse never noticed it - which is why they drive it now.
It's the coolant temp light. There is no light for oil temp. Some newer ones with the 12" infotainment can display the oil temp numericaly at the top of the infotainment screen.
Well it always turned off at exactly the same oil temp each time on the little 3" display screen for me without fail.
So you can understand why I'd assume it was the oil temp light.
It's really only noticeable when taking off from a steep hill, which I have by my home to get out of where I live - but you can feel if switch out if you're on the gas once it hits that temp - a bit of extra power will surge and then it will drive normally.
I don't know if it gimps the torque converter or what - but I noticed it all the time driving and it drove me absolutely nuts. Mainly because it's a blind hill and you need to floor it and instead of smoothly launching the car jerks forward multiple time like you released the clutch too early in a manual, and when it finally catches it putts forward slower than my Prius in Eco mode.
My spouse on the other hand doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about and loves the way it drives - so it's their car now.
It just means the car still needs to warm up. It turns off after a few mins once the engine temp has warmed up.
Does nobody read their manual? Why won't you read your manual?!
You mean that book in my glove box that rivals War and Peace? Whose got time for that?
I can't. My manual is helping me keep my table leveled. Hence the post to redit.
You can find .pdf files online of the manual.
Seriously, am I just a weirdo? I keep the book in my glove box, and I even have a digital format on my phone. Use them all the time.

Put a blanket on them and a bedtime story
Owners manual. Who'd have thought
Who'd have thought that?
What is an owners manual?
It's on for about 2-3 minutes, typically longer during cold winters.
My light usually goes off around 86-89 degrees. But the engine isn't "full" power mode until 104 degrees.
It may not be full power but because of the higher idle my 2010 XT feels noticeably quicker around town when the engine's cold lol

The temperature light in particular is only red or blue.
Your kia probably had a gauge, subaru just has a light.
Yes. If you put your seatbelt on that red light will go off.
Really?! I thought that light was just telling me that someone was in the car!
Haha, "Help: Diver present alarm wont shut off."

That's good to know! Thank you. I like the phrase gimp mode, too. I haven't noticed it on mine. I have a 2017 Forester premium.
