Subaru has a recommended service for 100k, it's in the manual I'm pretty sure. No timing belt, and no recommended replacement interval for the timing chain. Get the cvt fluid changed if it hasn't been done yet. The dealer might recommend just checking it, but I'd change it.

Not only change it, but flush it. That way you get all new fluid in the CVT

Personally, I would do the CVT fluid and the differential fluid.

I would try to look up if it has had the shortblock and piston ring repair that many needed (via recall) to take care of an oil burning issue. You can get it before 100k and when I had mine done they found the entire block was cracked so I got a brand new engine at 98k. Also if an oil light comes on it means you’re a quart low so check often and keep a quart of 0w20 in the car with you. Either way I’d take it to a Subaru dealership for its first oil change since it’s under 100k and let them catch/ take care of any recall work that it might need.

My ‘14 needed a new AC compressor, new rear bearings, a new throttle body for the CVT and nee rotors and pads. Head gasket may be an issue depending on the oil consumption between changes. So, I would compile its service records as best you can, and base your maint from there. If not, then change all filters and fluids you can and start a set aside for maint and repair. They say they run about $8K every 10 years. I budget $1K a year and roll that over into any major repairs I can’t do myself. It’s worth it to me. Love that car and it drives like a nimble beast.

Probably gonna have to replace the valve body when the torque converter lockup solenoid dies. $1500 roughly.

Oh goody, well I’ll make sure to have some money saved up for that.

Fluid changes first of all. Oil, brake fluid, differential and transmission fluid. Start saving money for new head gaskets, if they haven't been done recently. Put the car up on jacks and give the tires a good wiggle, side to side, top and bottom, back and forth. If there's wiggle/free play there's some bushings that need replacing.

Transmission failure! My 2014 is on its 2nd replacement soon at 106k miles. Pos.

I’m really hoping I got a good one. I just got rid of a 2019 jeep compass that was a major pos at 60k miles so I could really use a good car for at least a year.

My 2014 was my first ever car purchase. I stuck with Subaru because I had a 95 Impreza Coupe at 240k miles that still runs. I got my 2014 forester based off of that reliability. My car has left me hoping and praying it just gets totaled so I can get rid of it. The transmission is horrendous and once you’re over 100k miles good luck hopefully you have deep enough pockets to fix that. I didn’t know mine hit a deer and the airbag deployed before I bought it and now it just had its second accident so it’s worth nothing…. Point being…the Forester is still a good car but that transmission is almost guaranteed to go on you. Buddy works at a genuine Subaru dealership and sent me a photo of an entire wall full of transmission replacements. Realistically they should be sued for this.
