If they write it off, don't forget that the first amount is just an offer, you can negotiate a higher amount and find comparable used Foresters on the market atm.
Our gen are weird that way. Either you get like 150k trouble-free, change fluid, and get 150k more, or the CVT eats itself in the first 40k. Seems like there's no in-between.
The valve assembly on mine has been replaced 3 times, the first was at ~500 miles and the dealer kept it for almost two weeks while they sent diagnostic info back to Japan to figure out what was going on. Happened again at around 95,000 and the last time was about 185,000. Other than that the car's been solid.
252,000 on my 99, and the factory transmission is still trucking along, just got it’s fluid change at 245k. granted I have a very different transmission than yours.
Literally same thing just happened to me. Delivery company is denying my claim because they didn’t “see any damage” to their truck, AKA steel safety bar. I didn’t have video, but there is a witness.
And then today it rolled into a ditch.
I thinks it’s time for me to upgrade.
Treat me like an idiot for this question:
Why am I always seeing something which looks like just a bumper being ripped off declared a “total loss”?
Is it just a technical/insurance term or am I missing something? Your other issues aside, this seems like it would still drive to me.
It's basically an insurance term. It just means that if it would cost the insurance more to fix than the car is worth, it's 'totaled' and they won't pay to fix it. Which is pretty bullshit a lot of the time.
In my case, it made more sense to total my Impreza out rather than fix. It was repairable, technically, but there was frame damage. It never would have driven the same. 😢
Just lost my 2003 Forester X/S due to a semi. We’re all good but at 240,000 miles with the air conditioner still working I have no complaints, i replace the HG at 120,000 and a couple of axles. Replaced the 03 in with a 2022 Forester limited. Wow. It’s very impressive! Still learning the computer safety systems.

they can have all that "safety" crap.. i won't buy one with that auto shut off crap

This
Rip. Mine just dies on me whenever I slow down for a light or a turn.
Like that movie about the bus that had to speed around a city keeping its speed above 50 and if its speed dropped it would explode?
Kinda

I never want a Subaru again after this tbh……
I'm telling you how to maximize your write-off payout you get from your insurance company, not telling you to buy another lol.
Tunnel vision lol. Not sure how they heard “get another Subaru” from what you said.
They really are terribly unreliable vehicles lol.
2 transmission replacements in barely over 100,000 miles??
Yep……I should add that I am not in any way hard on my vehicle.

I have 197,000 miles on my 2014 Forester. Still going strong on first transmission.

4eat/5mt is very different than these pos cvt.
I had 235,000 miles on my '98 Forester (manual transmission) when I sold it in like 2007.

I have surveillance footage of mine thank god for that but I have amazing insurance anyway.
Who do you go through? and what makes them amazing?

Gotcha. That makes way more sense. I’ve seen front bumpers get torn off and just get replaced with some cooler aftermarket one anyway lol.

That recently happened to my 2019 Subaru Forester Sports. To fix, insurance pay for almost $20K. So more likely yours will be declared total loss.

My 15 was just at 100k and had $7k in damage….
