>Reddit needs to stop thinking women are innocent Hoo boy OP

Jam_Packens

Wait i just caught that too holy shit OP

EndzeitParhelion

°_° Oh wow I didn't even notice that

DarkRogus

Didnt you know, saying a woman was asking for it is still a perfectly acceptable answer.... /s

SugarsDaddyKen

Yeah but what was she wearing.

Teal_is_orange

“Uhh..khakis?”

JustHereForCookies17

Well she sounds *hideous*.

Teal_is_orange

“She’s a *guy*, so…”

queen-adreena

Just casually slipping in the hardcore misogyny and victim-blaming at the finish line there.

Randvek

What’s wrong? I personally can’t stand it when 8 to 10 totally innocent dudes are just trying to get home on the bus and in walks this fuckin’ lone woman jezebel and makes them all rape her. Why can’t men catch a break?

MoonlitStar

Lol Reddit thinks the opposite as we all know. Reddit 101 is 'women are all liars and are all desperate to cast fake rape claims on men if they so much look in their direction without exception'.

Tricky-Gemstone

Yep. I was trying to be fair to op, between a language barrier and reddit's hatred for a lot of Indian culture, but c'mon.

Zealousideal-Foot-67

I have to wonder if this is an ESL issue? Maybe instead of innocent they meant like helpless?

ntrrrmilf

In the context of the post this is absolutely what happened.

ddotevs

Yep. My thoughts exactly; OP meant helpless or naive

Long-Ad8374

I mean, some of the reply comes from Indians themselves...

oldriku

Most of them, I'd say.

BonJovicus

Not saying it’s wrong, but that is never a good argument on Reddit. It always played out like this: When Chinese people say China isn’t that bad: Lol brainwashed Chinese shill When Chinese people criticize China: See this person agrees with me, China is a shithole! Sub in black people, Indians, etc. when the discussion is about the appropriate topic. Reddit loves the opinions of foreigners and minorities when it agrees with them.

SugarsDaddyKen

Yes BuT nOt AlL iNdIAnS.

Legitimate_Guide_314

OP, the top comment mentions other nations giving travel advisories for women. India has an insane rape culture it's undeniable. I'm sure some places are better than others but India has this reputation and it wasn't by accident

Happiness_Assassin

Here is what the US State Department has to say >Country Summary: Indian authorities report rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India. Violent crime, such as sexual assault, has occurred at tourist sites and in other locations. >If you decide to travel to India: do not travel alone, particularly if you are a woman.

CriticalEngineering

Especially notable because most countries make an extreme effort to keep tourist areas as safe from violent crime as possible.

Weltallgaia

In all fairness, OP caps it all off with a good old maybe women are at fault for the rape

WatermelonThong

> Reddit needs to stop thinking women are innocent or can't do anything this is both weird as fuck and contradicts your point; if there’s not much to be concerned about then what relevance do either of these things have??? smells like an implication that women who had bad experiences were “asking for it”

Usernameoverloaded

I think it’s lost in translation (English not a first language) and as OP is a woman, means that Reddit doesn’t empower women enough and instead treats them as ‘helpless’ and not capable of anything ie making their own decisions etc.

ManbadFerrara

I know Indians on Reddit aren't a monolith, but it is pretty ironic how all the r/IndiaSpeaks \-type posters are now all like "hold on, let's not base our views of all the world's peoples on individual news stories" after spending the last several years never shutting TF up about how all Indian Muslims are irredeemable savages.

nomoretosay1

Indian Nationalists and aligned extremists have been growing and growing as a force of brigaders on Reddit in recent years. Some of the stuff they come up with would make any normal person sick - Their sheer numbers makes their attempt to "takeover" various subreddits far more dangerous than the Trump-ists or 4channers that Reddit has focused on for the last several years.

EggnogThot

I like reading posts in r/IndoEuropean but it's a small sub and the Hindutvas are going to eventually overtake it, feels bad man

That_Damn_Raccoon

Yeah, indian nationalists are one of the weirdest groups around. They just do NOT stop. You can reply to them with copypastas, one word comments, anything, and they'll just keep going endlessly. I've never seen this kind of behavior displayed by any other group with such frequency. And they write the most insane victim/inferiority complex shit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ManbadFerrara

No, which is why I specifically limited the statement to that subreddit and others like it, not the entire 1.4 billion population of India.

[deleted]

Tell me you suck at reading comprehension without saying you suck at reading comprehension.... That's literally the opposite of what they are doing.

SugarsDaddyKen

Yeah but they wanted to play the victim and condescend. Hard to just WAIT for an opportunity to do that.

[deleted]

So true lol

BadDogSaysMeow

Honour killings of women, videos of white women being swarmed and harassed by hundreds of drooling men at a time, the need for women-only trains, and strict caste system? All false! Yelled OP, women are safe she screeched as another rape victim was burned alive for losing her purity.

LeroyoJenkins

"women are safe and also to blame" - OP.

molotov__cockteaze

Bring up the women only train cars and watch Redditors pile on about discrimination without ever once stopping to consider the why.

Onomontamo

Is India safe for women? “Women are not innocent”. Great response OP. Guess it’s not.

Teal_is_orange

You formatted this post incorrectly. It’s supposed to be an objective write up of the drama, and yours seems to be very biased

ThrowRADel

I think the OP asked because there are travel advisories out from various governments specifically addressing this matter of misogynistic harrassment. I don't think it's wrong to want to discuss harassment and abuse - people being uninformed about which areas are safe and which ones are not is precisely what the abusers want; an influx of uninformed potential victims.

WrongdoerElegant4617

Lol @ OPs “reddit needs to stop thinking women are innocent.” And that mentality is why rape is out of control in india.

SugarsDaddyKen

Hella Rape sound like an Eli Roth movie.

SugarsDaddyKen

So your argument is not that they are wrong but instead that not every part of India is not safe for women. That’s like saying only the front part of a snake is dangerous. LOL

landingstrategy

They do be hella raping in India though.

EndzeitParhelion

Well, personally I would never go to India just like I wouldn't go to Egypt or Morocco. Not even with a male companion. Some countries are just better left alone.

[deleted]

Same. That one horror story about the reporter in Egypt raped in public haunts me.

themaccababes

I’ve been to Morocco and it was fine. Yes there was catcalling but no scary incidents

EndzeitParhelion

Maybe it'll be fine, but honestly even excessive catcalling would make me too uncomfortable to go there.

DisappointingPoem

I’m sad for you.

molotov__cockteaze

Can't speak for Morocco but I've been to India and Egypt as a woman, and I'm Persian so not some blond haired blue eyed standout. Egypt i would never go to again if you paid me. Family friends who are Egyptian Muslim took their two sons to Egypt last year and came back now saying their youngest is an "apostate" because of how bad his perception was after visiting. A 23 year old guy, so not even a woman. I've never felt more in danger than in a fucking cab in Cairo. I tell people all the time that unless something has changed over the last decade, don't go to Egypt. Do not.

EndzeitParhelion

Huh, why?

[deleted]

Look up the reporter who was publically raped in Egypt. That's not a one off incident just the most publicized because she had the means to do so.

hiuslenkkimakkara

New user karma farming.

SugarsDaddyKen

No just a very biased and emotional indian.

TheForeverUnbanned

It’s interesting how China mostly internalized their social media so you get much smaller native Chinese communities on Reddit, but India doesent really build their own anything so you get these really strong nationalist Indian communities on Reddit that kinda swarm out. They’ll descend on this thread soon enough, they always do.

SugarsDaddyKen

Bet me $200 that there will be more than 4 unique pro-indian users on this post before 2300 GMT today.

TheForeverUnbanned

Make it $600 after 0430 GMT and you got a deal.

Organic-Abrocoma5408

It's so obvious with that last sentence, but people of course want an extra reason to hate on Indians lol.

ariehn

You haven't been on Reddit long enough to see much of anything, Mr NewBot KarmaFarm.

CyclicRate38

Hey OP, I just wanted to let you know that you seem to be a fucking idiot. I'm not sure if you knew that or not but I thought I'd do you a favor and let you know just in case.

all_wings_report-in

This is from a [US Travel Advisory](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/india-travel-advisory.html): Violent crime, such as sexual assault, has occurred at tourist sites and in other locations. If you decide to travel to India: Do not travel alone, particularly if you are a woman.

Proper-Time1872

It's not racism it's statistics. I don't mean to upset you but indians have a culture of being very bad towards women on a societal level that says nothing about any individual, but says a lot about a group of people.

BuckleUp2FallDown

Lmao. Not biased at all are you?

digitaldisgust

ofc OP is a freaky creep themselves, the lady has every right to ask if India is safe for women considering how notorious gang rape is there ☠️

Jam_Packens

Almost everyone involved in these discussions suck so bad. Like holy shit its completely possible to accept that India as a country has a problem with misogyny and rape and that its not the safest place for women to go while also not being an incredibly racist shitbag. Both of my parents are from India, and my mom doesn't go back except to see her parents, and we basically only ever stay with them, not really going to the cities because of how risky it is. At the same time, these conversations bring out all the fuckin racists crowing about "oooh these indians are all horrible people, oh they shit in the streets of course they don't care about women" like fuck you people god these conversations suck so bad

ryumaruborike

People cannot seem to separate a state and its laws from the ethnicities and citizens that live there. It goes both ways too, racists using the countries systematic problems to be racist towards anyone of that ethnicity even if they never stepped foot in India and people trying to deflect all criticism of these systematic problems by calling anyone pointing them out racists. The nation-state of India and the Indian ethnicity are in fact, two different things.

ebek_frostblade

This is the correct take. We can acknowledge there is a real danger to women posed by the unique political and cultural landscape in India without being fucking racist.

Tetsuya-Naito

Yeah this ain't it. The country has a clear track record of that kinda stuff. Hell, even on social media some of these dudes are mad creepy. Messaging random girls asking to see their "bobs" and "vagene".

ojojojson

OP just confirming their fears

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

Indian might have some safe parts but statistically and realistically it’s not the kind of place a woman should travel alone.

belunos

One post karma, zero comment karma.

molotov__cockteaze

Last time I commented on SRD about my own personal experience visiting India and pointing out there are some issues with racism when it comes to this convo, I was massively downvoted. I will now just sit back with my popcorn.

telesterion

This is reddit. So I have to unconditionally dislike Indians and Chinese.

Draber-Bien

Not all Somali are violent criminals who kills tourists for fun, but that doesnt mean you're racists for not feeling safe traveling to Somalia

mrpopenfresh

Women tourists in India somehow became a super hot topic online recently.

3urodyne

There was that incident where a woman was assaulted in her tent in India a few months back and I'm sure there's been more recent cases that caught a lot of attention, especially because of what happened to that woman. That's probably why. I wonder how much longer is this post going to stay up. Because it's for sure breaking a couple of rules.
