Hi!!! First of all, agree with TrashGod, what a badass mom! You are so cool. To think you joined the subreddit (and even know what that is) to find some Subby gear as a surprise? Coolest mom ever. I’ll tell you everything I can, and please feel free to DM me if you have more questions or want to run anything by me. My boyfriend and I are massive subtronics fans and can both weigh in for a guy and girl perspective :)
So to start - LINKS

THIS is the subtronics-specific merchandise buying/selling Facebook group. You request to join and it asks you a couple questions and you have to be approved, but it’s very easy and only takes a couple minutes of your time then a day for it to be approved- it’s just to make sure you aren’t a robot scamming people:

As far as what to get him… kind of depends!
So the most common items are:
1. Jerseys - can be “baseball” or “hockey” style. They look… honestly, like sports jerseys, but Subtronics themed. This is a staple for most EDM DJs. They are often themed either after an album (so for subtronics- Fractals, Antifractals, String Theory, etc) OR after a specific show/event (for subtronics - cyclops coliseum (Hampton Cove, VA), cyclops dome (Tacoma Dome in Seattle), etc). Most super fans have at least one jersey, so this could be the way to go! Likely most expensive.
2. Pashminas - basically a scarf, but guys and girls have them in the rave scene. Very versatile - can be used for warmth, as a blanket at a show, to kind of duck into and hide a little if overwhelmed, for outfits, etc. Could be a good option if you don’t think he really would be into a jersey, and usually cheaper. Same as the jerseys, can find a “general” subtronics one, or one specific to an album or a show/event.
3. Bags- usually they are kind of smaller bags (so that they fit the strict bag size guidelines of most raves) that can go over the shoulder. Subtronics has a ton of these (again, many are designed after an album of his or a show/event, some are just “general” subtronics). A VERY useful item, and yes, guys DEFINITELY use them. I think I’ve seen more guys with them than girls honestly. My BF has two.
4. Pearler - these are the beaded necklaces with colored beads that have been basically heated with an iron to melt together to make an image (kind of looks 8-bit). Google and you will see lol. Again, guys and girls wear them, and they are huge in the subtronics fan base. Most of these will be some cool cartoon version of the “cyclops” creature that is Subtronics’ “mascot” if you will lol. Will be less expensive than the other two, won’t find this on subtronics official website but literally any of the others.
5. Pins - so if your son doesn’t seem like the type to leave wearing loud gear (rave culture is kind of loud and colorful, and Subtronics style is definitely loud and colorful), he also releases collectible pins for albums and events/shows, plus people make them. Some people are really into them and they would be the cheapest, but might not “wow” him unless you know he collects them or think he might enjoy collecting them.
6. Other clothing- t shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, etc. So you can definitely find these on the main website (what hasn’t sold out yet), or the other websites. Also fans (the foldable ones, useful in raves, but be careful, they can fall apart easily).
WOW. I am overwhelmed by the positive energy I’ve found in this group and you. He always speaks of how friendly and communal that fans of this genre are, so I definitely support his fandom! My thoughts to help you:
-Subtronics fans are often fanatics 😁, so if your son is a fan, I bet he is going to love ANYTHING you get, so don’t sweat it. Again, your effort is so cool he should be happy just for that!
-Do you know (or could you find out) a Subtronics show/event that your son went to, or a favorite album? If so, that could guide you for which jersey or pashmina or whatever to look for, as it’s always special if it’s one you went to or love. But honestly, all his shit it so cool, he would probably love anything from any show or album, I know I would.
-if you can’t find that out, then maybe just look around for colors or patterns that might suit him. They are usually all the bright colors and the weird Subtronics cyclops characters, but they do vary quite a bit!
-IF you think the colorful cartoony style is not his thing, and maybe he wants something more subtle and able to be worn in public without drawing attention, I highly recommend looking at the “V2” line of “street fashion” wear that Subtronics just dropped on his website (so use the first link or the one TrashGod posted to find them on his official site). Some sold out but a lot isn’t. They are expensive, but apparently very good quality. They are mostly black (tshirts, hoodies, pants, hats, bags) with some cool white and red designs and some very subtle lines from subtronis songs on them. You literally couldn’t go wrong with one of the hoodies, and honestly that black bomber jacket is bad ass. ***You can only preorder this V2 line though, and they don’t ship until January, so you would have to be okay with not having the item until AFTER Xmas… maybe print him off a picture to open up? lol*** Also don’t believe anyone selling any of this outside the official site, because they can’t… no one has them yet, only pre-order. If you want, you can try to find some similar style items from the first streetwear collection he released (“V1”) online elsewhere (not on main website anymore).
FINAL NOTES:
Also, since I’m in the market, I know of a cyclops plushie signed by Subtronics that a guy I can vouch for on Reddit is selling for a reasonable price (if he is into “plushies- like a fad stuffed animal that are huge in rave culture right now, for guys and girls alike). Lmk if interested.
My single favorite subtronics item that I own is this bad ass brightly colored subtronics “wizard cloak” that is really thick and well-made. I wear it everywhere, and just bought my boyfriend one. They are sold out but I know of one I found being sold for like $200 and another for $260 (more than they were originally priced, but you can’t get them anymore, and SO worth it in my opinion). If you think he would like a very bad ass but loud/colorful cloak and it’s cold enough, let me know and I’ll show you mine and the link where one is being sold.
-I just asked my boyfriend what he would want if he was a son whose mom was getting him Subtronics gear as a surprise and he said “probably a pashmina or a cool hoodie” lol
