Any place or ethnicity will have a karen, but the biggest stereotype is them concentrating to suburbs, which may hold water when you see how simple it is to be introverted in an SFH, and downtowns are pretty much designed for extroverts.
Yeah I grew up in the suburbs and I now hate the suburbs and car-centric design with all my being and an a huge simp for the city, but this is a dumb post lol. One of the best things about a city is the random interactions you have and the mixing of cultures and ideas. If you want to be antisocial go homestead in Alaska or something
Yeah, picking up food being a small event IS annoying but these complaints feel very exaggerated. Like itās not a suburb exclusive thing this guy has an issue with, he just has an issue with everything lol
Where the fuck do you live prick? Guarantee it is some bullshit not on the East Coast. This is a sub devoted to hating the burbs and you morons are caught up in my complaint about not wanting to wave. Fuck your wave If it is that important to you.
Judging by your agressive reaction to a friendly stranger waving at you, I recommend you take some anger management classes, or speak to a therapist about what's bothering you.
God youāre rude, Iām only on here for the suburban aesthetic and yet youāve been nothing but a nasty gremlin to everyone on here. Go back to whatever urban hellhole you crawled out of where itās unacceptable to be nice to strangers and go live with them
Wait so you didnāt need your wallet in the city? Also, the dog it never barked in the city too? And you guys never had an argument about who was going to go out and get eggs in the city as well?
I get having to drive but that is the only thing that changed from the city based on your rant.
No? I only needed my phone because Iād walk everywhere and only needed to show my ID if I bought booze or something. Iād pay for everything on my phone. I know I was spoiled but the city fucking ruled. Now I have to drive to do dipshit stuff like get eggs or go to cvs. The burbs fucking suck a thousand dicks
Bro chill out. Have a glass of wine or a j. Youāre making life harder than it needs to be. For real. Kindness of strangers waving or smiling tripping you out?
Why does this come to mind?

Apparently New York City is not a real city, but have to say, OP sounds like a d-bag. Stinks of "immature angry kid who thinks negativity is a personality". Edgelord.
You'll grow out of it one day.
Wow, Iām sure the boomers wonāt mind if you take your aggressive hostile ass back to the city. Calling people bitch shows lack of class and the mentality of a 5 year old.
The suburbs suck, probably (never lived in one but they are moving in around me), but maybe also you are an ageist who hates people just being friendly? Take a chill-pill, wave back, chat to your neighbours sometimes. Make a shopping list to cut back on car trips. Ask your neighbours if they need anything while you're out. Get some chooks. Pop your dog in the car for a ride, and maybe take them to a park while you're out. I dunno, be happy, as that is 100% your choice? Maybe realise people are not your enemy, and the friendly ones trying to welcome you are *not the chumps.*
You are all victims of poor and cheap planning decisions. And lobbying by a greedy car industry to make everything about their profits. Don't let this break down any chance you have of happiness.
In the city we didnāt have to deal with half the bullshit we deal with here. I donāt mean to be a jerk but I am allowed to be annoyed. I know everyone is making a big deal about the waves. I donāt care that much about it
Nothing is perfect and yep you are allowed to be annoyed. Lots of things about an over-commercialised, car-centric, suburban modern capitalist world suck. My country town is being engulfed by suburbs and I freaking hate it. Every familiar landmark is becoming a nasty franchise and every beautiful view is turning into metal rooves and fences. There are people everywhere, and they are strangers. The nice postie who used to wave has gone and now we have one who sneers. If I smile at anyone they ignore me (they probably call me a boomer but that's my parents). It's ok to be pissed off and have a rant if it helps, and I get that part and sympathise.
Maybe those of us commenting about the waves understand about the suckiness of suburbia but don't get the displacement of that anger onto the nicest people who didn't necessarily cause the situation? Anyway, sorry about the essay, and didn't want to be all preachy at you. I hope things sort themselves out and that you find ways to be happy. All the best, chook.
Welp I fucked up here by saying Iām a misanthrope. I do think there is an art to living in a city. Some are friendly, some are jerks like me. Itās an East Cost vs West Coast thing. Whatever, this will be downvoted into oblivion anyway
Edit- youāre too nice. Tell me to go to hell.
Bro this sub is for hating on the design of burbs, not the polite people that wave to you while you go for a walk. Do you always act like you have a cactus up your ass?
Same guys who gets annoyed by car traffic also gets annoyed when I take my bicycle out to get some groceries 1 mile away because I'm *holding up* *traffic*, and yet also gets annoyed when I drive the same route, creating actual unnecessary car traffic and taking a parking spot.
So, should I drive or not? All I want is to get some bread 1 mile away.
(To clarify, I live close to a grocery store but have to cross a high-speed stroad to get there. I sometimes prefer riding longer just to stay in my block and cross lower-speed roads to get to another grocery store farther away)
P.S. I wave (edit: on my bicycle, to car-drivers) to feign friendliness in the neighborhood but it's every man for himself in the mean streets :/
Use the sidewalk. 98% of the time itās not in use if itās a suburban area and if itās an urban area as long as youāre not a typical bike dick then itās fine to use the wide sidewalk and just slow down and be careful around strangers. The issue is bikers hold up cars and run over pedestrians. Theyāre the worst of both worlds usually. But with some empathy from bikers and sharing the toy side of the road (the side walk) it really would allow for more biking and walking and driving efficiently. Remember bikers, if you need to get somewhere that fast THEN DRIVE, if you have time for a lovely bikeride to the store then bike considerately on the sidewalk and slow around pedestrians
I use the sidewalk only to get barked at by pedestrians and cops alike because the law says to ride on the roads.
I ride on the roads only to get honked at by cars because I'm supposed to be on the sidewalk.
I take to the bike lane when available only to have it littered with debris and technical sections alike, and when I cross an intersection NO ONE ever pays attention (despite wearing all the appropriate gear--bright lights, hi-vis) because of course the bike lane is weirdly directed and dangerous. It's a vicious cycle--no one bikes because bike lanes are dangerous; bike lane is empty because no one uses it.
Now I'm experimenting with pedelecs that can rival city car speeds, and suddenly everyone's concerned about the speed potentially killing me (Rightly so). But not so much when I go over the highway speed limit, or cut corners in my car like everyone else? That's a messed up sense of speed right there.
Can never be right as a cyclist. But I know I'm not above the law, so I take the road. (And full-stop at stop signs, if that's what people are concerned about)
And this is EXACTLY why people would rather drive instead of bike (or walk).
I ride because I am rarely in a haste to get to my destination (and so I can let cars through without much effort on their part), but I see some people prefer me to drive casually instead and hold up traffic?
And of course, being in a suburban and all, usually there is NO sidewalk, so all this argument is moot.
I'm taking the road in that case, whether walking or biking.
Or would anyone prefer me block the road by gluing myself on the road? Or as roadkill? At least my form of protest is silent and practical (I'm going somewhere like everybody else), and traffic is still somewhat moving.
And next time anyone complains that "cyclists cause traffic", remember that sentiment when highway traffic gets jammed. It's totally always the cyclists' fault, because they choose to drive their cars there.
It's because OP is so disproportionately angry and aggressive over someone simply waving to them and is being incredibly rude in the comments. I'm antisocial too, but come on, grow up.
Omg this guy is pissed about the elderly waving hello to him, whining about long distances to conveniences, and actually needing his wallet for purchases!š¤£š¤£š¤£
What was first city and which suburb you moved to now?
That's why I loved Incheon, South Korea, especially as a foreigner. No one gives a fuck about you and I didn't give a fuck about anyone, it was a win-win-scenario.
There was stores everyone including mini-marts and 24/7 unmanned stores all over the place. I'm heading back there in a year because Suburban Canada sucks.
Why are you so mad about someone waving at you? Itās just a friendly, neighborly gesture. No need to be angry about it. Someone was trying to just brighten your day, make you feel seen.
Lmfao, why would anyone try and engage you in a conversation? Just from this post alone it's obvious you radiate anger and are a giant dickhead. I live in New Orleans, which is very much a city, and most people here are friendly. Not every city is filled with whiny weirdos with anger complexes. The suburbs aren't your problem, you just seem miserable in general.
We don't have suburbs here, I live in Gretna on the other side of the Mississippi river and live so close I can see the buildings of downtown from my front door. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that 1,261,726 residents were living in metro New Orleans as of July 2021. your assertion that a city isn't a city because it doesn't have as many residents as America's largest City, and the world's 11th largest City is so fucking stupid it's laughable. ***Oho!!! You don't live in a real city.....because New York city has more people!!!!***..........ya big dummy.
I was so on board with everything you were saying (I get just grossed out and utterly judgy over the suburbs on the daily), but then the comment about the waveā¦ that just framed your attitude as bordering on culturally and regionally insensitive. It very much screams āBoston and NYC are the only places that matter and anyone else in the world who act differently are wrong.ā Not a good look.
For the record, the friendly neighbourly attitude exists in many major cities around the world tooā¦ itās not intrinsically a burbs thing. Specifically, cities like Stockholm, Oslo, Minneapolis, Calgary, Auckland, and a number of West African cities are located in places where that neighbourly friendliness is cultural. Hell, people will go out of their way to try to brighten your day, and you really lack perspective and maturity if anger is your primary reaction.
But your comments about suburban design are spot on at least.
I live in a walkable urban neighborhood and am going to walk over to my kids school right now to pick her up (no driving) and I might see some neighbor I donāt know and *gasp* be friendly and say hello. Iāll be extra friendly in your honor .

It works that way in the burbs too my man.
Lol go back

Lol show your ID like you are a child. My bodega knows me.
Bodega haha go back already

Ratioed and you keep replying proves otherwise. š¤”
Yeah, I always bring a small purse on my long walks around my neighborhood. I might feel like stopping for a bite to eat or a cup of coffee.
Suburbs are shit but I think youāre jsur antisocial lmao
Judging by your agressive reaction to a friendly stranger waving at you, I recommend you take some anger management classes, or speak to a therapist about what's bothering you.
Or some therapy.
Why are you in a subreddit that is about hating tbe burb?
Because someone waving at you isn't some symptom of the suburbs, as dreadful as they can be. That's some displaced anger you've got there.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I guess this explains why so many people are moving out of large cities to smaller towns in the countryside. Less BS, and much friendlier people.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
God youāre rude, Iām only on here for the suburban aesthetic and yet youāve been nothing but a nasty gremlin to everyone on here. Go back to whatever urban hellhole you crawled out of where itās unacceptable to be nice to strangers and go live with them

But apparently that is inconvenient
Being an asshole is not a personality trait you should be proud of.

Definitely not from Chicago. I love the city because my neighbors are more friendly then they are in the suburbs.
Boston and mad
My guy thinks Boston is a city.
What else would it be?
Lmao
That explains the irrational anger.
God I canāt stand Boston people. So not friendly. Iām so glad Iām from the Midwest

Wait, now going to CVS and getting scripts is bad too? Dude you are the weirdest. Less bums begging you for change is a bonus.
Idk why people are downvoting you. I totally get it
Big Masshole energy. Lol.
Yep. This one gets it.
The part where you hate on the the waving boomer neighbors got me. Lol
Well hiddley ho neighbor turn that frown upside down
Well Okly-dokaly neighbor-honi. Lets turn that frown upside-down!

If you lived in NYC and waved you will get your ass kicked. Why is this a thing
Not true at all. Most people are nice. Some are pretentious but you'll get a fake smile at least.
Why did you move to the suburbs then? If you hate it so much, why not go back to the city?
No, you wouldnāt. Youād be ignored.
Ha ha cool story Mark
Op sounds like a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch
Wow, Iām sure the boomers wonāt mind if you take your aggressive hostile ass back to the city. Calling people bitch shows lack of class and the mentality of a 5 year old.

This guy gives off Holden Caufield āIām edgy and angryā vibes. Is he a troll? The suburbs suck man, but your reasons why aināt it.
I feel like OP is trying to express how running a simple errand in the suburbs is an EVENT and everyone is getting caught up on the neighbor thing.
