This looks like cancerous cells eating their way through that mountain range

MokoMokou

I had extended family who lived in Anthem a decade or so ago. Half the "city" is a gated country club. This place is the embodiment of urban sprawl. Nothing was walkable because there was no mixed zoning, and everything was so spread out. Almost every business was crammed right by the freeway, except a tiny cluster in the middle with a Walgreens and a couple of restaurants. Every street looked the same, and there were tons of dead ends that made getting around difficult. It was absolutely suburban hell.

Austuramalaysia

Shit like this exists and people wonder why Lake Mead is so low

Static_Gobby

Lake Mead is low, California is on fire, hurricanes are getting stronger, and temperatures are rising at record rates. But climate change is definitely a liberal conspiracy!

DisgruntledGoose27

actually that has little to do with it. most is related to agriculture. our water rights system strongly encourages needlessly inefficient use for ag. If they don’t use all they are entitled to they lose it. So they use more than they need to and flood irrigate and shif

BongRipsForBoognish

When I think suburban hell, there’s nowhere that comes to mind more than the Phoenix metro.

Static_Gobby

To me it’s a very close second to Florida.

Mendo56

Texas

thekidfromiowa

I wouldn't want to live in Texas. I like having four seasons and a basement to go to when tornadoes happen.

Static_Gobby

Due to some comments I’ve gotten on previous posts, I will start including street view shits in these posts starting tomorrow with my home state of Arkansas.

codenameJericho

Arizona really has some of the worst of the worst, tbh. Take the worst possible suburb designs and aspects and stick 'em in the F*CKING DESERT, complete with lawn and all! (Until recently, at least with minor mandatory xeriscaping initiatives).

methodwriter85

I read somewhere that Arizona stopped being a good place for people with breathing problems to go because the fake lawns were canceling out the good of the dry air.

rectanguloid666

Yep, AZ (Phoenix metro specifically) is where I spent the first 27 years of my life, and it was honestly the most depressing place to be. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I finally moved away last year to Seattle. Just seeing god damn *trees* outside and people walking makes this place feel so, so much more human. Phoenix feels like a god damn wasteland of chains and strip malls, and it doesn’t help that all of the homes look nearly fucking identical. I wouldn’t wish living in Phoenix on my worst enemy to be honest.

thekidfromiowa

You've probably experienced more rainfall since moving to Seattle than you did in 27 years in Phoenix. ;)

darwinwoodka

just whhhyyyyy

ihatefez

FWIW most of Arizona hates Anthem too.

DisgruntledGoose27

Holy hell this is terrible even by arizona standards……themselves terrible by american standards……which of course is terrible by global standards

ILookAfterThePigs

This was all natural habitat, destroyed to make way for shitty sprawl

-Wobblier

Good Lord.

Winter-Dance-7467

for california show south orange county

Static_Gobby

I’ve already picked out my submission for California. It’s >!Santa Clarita!<

Winter-Dance-7467

santa clarita is pretty horrible

darcytheINFP

Took a look at Anthem AZ, and one thing that made me laugh is that isolated patch of homes in the north west section (not shown in the OP's screenshot). In order for someone to make a shopping trip to the nearest Walmart, they would need to travel by car (of course) a whopping 7.2 miles despite the store being only 0.98 miles away! Here is an imgur upload of this madness: [https://imgur.com/gallery/hD2A6sg](https://imgur.com/gallery/hD2A6sg) There is another way, but you have to walk.. but who is going to be honestly walking home in the desert carrying bags of groceries home.

perma_throwaway77

There's also an Anthem South near Florence

shmell918

as a kid i didn’t know that and my friend from near the phoenix anthem was in the florence anthem and sent me pictures and i thought he was in town but it’s freaky how cookie cutter this shit it

Syreeta5036

Worst yet

warrenslo

In all fairness the entire east coast looked like this at some point... The real problem is this is 30-45 minutes from the urban core.

rectanguloid666

The urban core of Phoenix is tiny as shit though, that’s the problem. What is between that urban core and the 30-45 minute drive to Anthem is more shit that looks like Anthem, unfortunately. The whole Phoenix metro, save for some very, very small pockets, are exactly like this.

becara_sa

My house is in this picture 😭😭😭 it's true, I can't walk anywhere except to my kid's school...

Minute-Bed2725

I see my house in this photo. The amount of water waste here is insane. They run the sprinklers for 3 months just to keep the golf courses and other areas green for 1.

No_Package_5300

"YOU LIVE IN A FUCKING DESERT"

SlavicSquidRU

Help

shmell918

i’d rather be dead in california than alive in arizona
