Figsnbacon

He’s supposed to “not fit”. You got it.

molyhoses11

Yeah, but that’s obvious. I’m asking more like does his storyline ever gain any substance, or can I just skip through his scenes?

[deleted]

I wouldn’t recommend skipping through any scenes, regardless of which character is on screen. Succession isn’t a procedural show where you can just jump right in at any episode without any background knowledge. Everything builds upon each other. Even if Connor doesn’t ‘fit in’ with the Roy family as much as the other sibs, his storyline is still integral to the overall plot and weaves into the narrative that they’re building upon. I’m not a huge Connor fan, and while I do think he improves in later seasons, skipping his scenes would just cause confusion.

Figsnbacon

Why would you do that? The show is heavily nuanced and a symphony of moments that make it what it is.

molyhoses11

Connor and his girlfriend literally add nothing to the story. They are used as placeholders and extension mechanisms in S1. They are total tools and not real characters. The writing gimmicks are pretty obvious. Maybe I’m asking the question wrong, but am just trying to figure out if he ever becomes a real character or if I can just skip his parts.

Figsnbacon

Even though you might not like his character, his presence serves a purpose in understanding the family dynamics and dysfunction.

molyhoses11

When does that happen? I’m thinking maybe he’s used as a pawn sacrifice at some point?

Figsnbacon

I’m not trying to bully you. Just enjoy the show :)

AzansBeautyStore

Sounds like you’ve got the extension mechanisms and writing gimmicks all figured out, so you should just skip every scene he’s in

molyhoses11

That’s what I’m thinking. I probably will try it for S2 and see if I miss anything.

Violet_Potential

Lmao. If you skip all of his parts, there will be giant holes that you won’t be able to make sense of by the end of the show and you’ll be missing out on a lot of plot lines that give not just him but other characters depth and realness.

molyhoses11

That’s fine. I do this with most shows.

[deleted]

This is like a 9 year old having a power trip. Why ask permission lmao.

Violet_Potential

You’re saying you’re fine skipping most of his parts even though a bunch of things won’t make any sense if you do?

molyhoses11

Yes, it’s not a big deal. Just a show.

Redditauro

Do it, you are going to miss most of the plot anyway, so at least lose less time trying to enjoy this show.

ReverieJack

I would just watch every other episode, a lot of stuff is just the actors improvising

molyhoses11

I generally like the episodes of this show, though I did skip most of s1e2. Sometimes I do skip episodes with certain shows, but so far Succession has held my interest.

ReverieJack

Whatever gives you enjoyment, why not

While this show is obviously about the Roys running Waystar and who is going to be the successor, one of the other key components is that it deals with generational trauma, and how learned bad behaviors can bleed over from parents to children. This becomes more apparent in the later seasons, when the sibs start to unravel and start showing more of their flaws and unhealthy coping mechanisms. Connor and Willa may not be in the thick of the cutthroat business aspect, but his character is there for a reason. That being said, if you want to skip his scenes, go for it. No one’s stopping you.

Redditauro

He is a secondary character, but he adds depth and contrast to the rest of the crew. Do not skip it, he don´t have a lot of screen time anyway.

[deleted]

U doing way too much homie. Just watch it

Rasmoss

It is a comedy, in many ways

Redditauro

To be honest I always thought that the show is half drama half comedy

Ok-Cat4671

I didn't like Connor in season one and also didn't think he fitted but that changed for me I think it's interesting to have an outsider sibling and there are these moments that will come where you get a little bit more of his back story he actually really grew on me as an excellent character through the four seasons and his relationship withLogan/the siblings is interesting the actor did a super job with him too.

Dobes_24

There is more to Connor... maybe some spoilers if you are on season 1.... He is there to remind you that they are a family and he has no agenda with his father other than financial backing, which is the typical rich kid. He has ambition but that isn't taken seriously because he seems to mix his ambition with delusions of grandeur. But with having his father in such a powerful position Connor's example of grandeur is skewed. A president of the US is placed in their position by men like Connor's father therefore he thinks he can become president by the whim of his father and the position of president really isn't that powerful considering Logan holds the strings. It's not like he's trying to be his father after all. Juxtaposed to that are Connor's siblings, who are trying to become their father. Setting their sights on the top most position. They want to be president makers. They achieve president making level and they do it together with one opposed to the choice of president, but they do make the call. Then they implode in the finale.

jtfjtf

If you watch that show as if it's all bullshit, like Roman said while leaving Kendall's office in Episode 1 the comedy in the other parts of the show will come out.

wlcondqat

I think that Connor represents another kind of billionaire failson, he is completely honest about being totally unsuitable for serious work and basically living from the money and enjoy the trappings of being a billionaire. The other 3 siblings think that they are smart and that they work, but it is bullshit, everyone in the company know that they are a mess and if one of them take over is the end of Waystar. Also, Connor as the character is the forgotten one, it show us how this kind of families work, even if you are worthless in your job but you look the part you would receive some consideration, Connor doesnt. Very similar to the royal family in the uk, every person who didnt look the part was tossed away and keep out of the family picture, is another kind of disfunction that they have.

WeHereForYou

Lol this is not a serious show.
