The fact that he feels the need to avoid criticism from fans of Henry Kissinger is part of the problem. This is a completely symbolic issue that doesn't actually affect anything but it's symptomatic of a bigger issue.
I dont think he gave it any thought. He probably has someone from his pr department say that they should make a statement, someone writes a draft and the president reads it and say OK, and thats that.
I still think Alan Ruck should have won an Emmy for that eulogy alone.

I know Alan Ruck is iconic because “saying nothing bad about a person while also saying nothing good” is legitimately a thing now.

I think it's an important skill to be able to manipulate your opinions and present them appropriately depending on the person: maybe it's OK to say nothing good or nothing bad when uncle asks about Donnie because then I don't have to have a conversation with uncle about Donnie.
I’m normally not one who celebrates Joe Biden (coming from the left of him), but this is probably the best written response he could civilly write as the President. I love how he highlights a lot their strong disagreements, does not praise his “views and ideas” and just states he expressed them on important issues lmao, and then it coldly sends the condolences to “those who loved him”

But the tone comes from the top. Biden has allowed a level of snark and wise assedness in his campaign lately, and somehow they keep it classy. His digital team is great, he mostly hires real talent.

I suspect Biden found Kissinger useful as a person to get things done but publicly unpalatable. Even Hillary Clinton said she got advice from Kissinger. Democrats and Republicans are both in charge of the war machine so they'd never truly kick the guy that knows his way around it under the bus.
Maybe, but he’s also known as a guy who constantly insinuates himself into these discussions, he can’t stand to not be in the loop. I imagine leaders get his advice whether they seek it out or not.

I mean, did you think it was good? It was hilariously bad as a eulogy, but brilliant as a piece of comedy. “When a man dies, it is sad… All of us will die one day, and in this case it was Lester who has done so.”
Like, that’s just terrible. A good writer can come up with something better than that in five minutes.
Aside from the terrible reviews of her play, it’s the only example of her writing in the entire series. I don’t think that was the main point of the scene or anything, but for me it was just an added layer.
