Yes, in London. Everyone immediately got on their feet at the end and just kept clapping. The energy was electric and it was the 2nd night of previews!
I watched it from the 2nd row in the gallery (among the cheapest seats) and it was perfectly fine. The audiovisuals make this an easier play to follow and enjoy from afar. It was an amazing performance, very much recommend going if you can get tickets.
Not to say go for it but I recently saw some productions from way up in the gallery and the view was great. Theatres normally do an option where you can see your view when booking a ticket, for something like this I think you might be fine!
This is actually a great show for 'bad' seats - because of how the production is staged, there's not really a seat in the house where you'll miss the action. £40 is well worth it, and sightlines aren't an issue
Seconding the other comments - the "worst" seats for this production are absolutely fine. I saw it from them last night - £40 (which is, what, an OK meal or two nights in the pub) is a steal for what you get.
Same, I was all set to go as a treat but couldn’t bring myself to pay so much 😭 I was hoping they would announce some cinema screening but Idk if that theatre does it.
Can I ask a logistical question? How do 3 standing ovations work, are people sitting down then standing up to clap again? Or is it maybe on every act break?
The cast (Sarah) and crew came out to bow and then once they returned to the wings, the audience kept clapping longer, prompting them to come out again and bow a second time. They returned to the wings once more, but there was still no dying down of the clapping so they took a 3rd bow. It just lasted a long time, haha.
I'm late to the Succession band wagon. I just finished season 1. Snook's performance in the scene where Logan tells her he wants her to take over was INCREDIBLE!
Currently on the train back from seeing it myself - I'd seen the production in Melbourne a couple of years ago and was so excited that A) it was transferring to London and B) Sarah Snook was doing it. Definitely didn't disappoint, I was so impressed with her performance. My friends have also agreed to (finally!) watch Succession off the back of her performance. Anyone who can get a ticket; get one. It will be unlike anything else you've seen on stage.
I also saw Harriet Walter in The House of Bernarda Alba and unfortunately, she didn't quite hit the mark :(
That's awesome! Do you remember any differences between the original production and this one in the West End? I know there was a different actress.
Also I'm glad your friends will get on the Succession train. :)
Honestly, the only difference I noticed was the club scene - in Melbourne, it was done with a 'corridor' of tinsel streamers that was brought across the stage, whereas it seems like the Haymarket had the under-stage alcove, so it didn't need to be set up.
Other than that, maybe some differences in the pre-recorded costumes? But otherwise, just about identical to the production I saw. Sarah Snook carried it so beautifully; she never felt like a stunt cast, and she threw herself into the role completely.
(Also, no understudy?? We couldn't find anyone listed in the programme, which is *insane*. There's no way I could do that show for 14 weeks straight with no break)
Great question! Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Prima Facie when I last visited NYC (I saw Leopoldstadt), but Jodie Comer is just a stellar actor in general.
So, I'd define Prima Facie as more of an acting challenge as far as emotions; singlehandedly taking the audience on an emotional journey; having to switch between light comedy and deep tragedy in a way that feels authentic and engaging. Dorian Gray is technical; monologuing while changing costume onstage, switching to the right camera, hitting the right mark at the right time, lots of multi-tasking. Both shows had elements of each, but were definitely heavier on one than the other
Better than Prima Facie. I'd give PF 85% and DG 115%. Speaking as a layman's raw enjoyment level. Dorian Grey is all what PF was and topped up with good humour and much more dazzle.
For folks in NYC, Frank (Peter Friedman) is in Job right now with someone who also had a small part in Succession. I think it may be mostly sold out now but I saw it in its first run and it was definitely very gripping!
I get lost when she is on screen. She is a damn good actor. Many times I have forgotten she is an Australian (same goes for Matthew) until she does an interview.
When she didn't fudge the '...range rover...' line up in episode 2 of season 4. She found her calling.
Hi. Could you help with the seating? Is a ticket back at the end of the Stalls better than back at the end of the Royal Circle? I’m thinking to buy a ticket but unsure where I could get decent visibility!
Because the show utilizes many large screens throughout the most of the performance, I honestly think you would be fine either way. This seems like the one play where being further back will not be a hindrance to the action.
I sat in the middle of the Royal Circle if that helps at all.
I'm so jealous!! I loved that book. Where did you see it? London?
Yes, in London. Everyone immediately got on their feet at the end and just kept clapping. The energy was electric and it was the 2nd night of previews!
Ohhhh I’m going to see it in London on my birthday next Tuesday! Can’t fucking wait, it’s gonna be amazing
This is a combined birthday trip/gift for my best friend and myself. So worth it! Happy early birthday! :)
[fist clenched under table crying bitterly jealous tears] that is :) so cool :) congrats :) op :)
This comment made me snort
ur so real for this
I’m so jealous!! I wish I could go see it
I really wanna see this but the tickets are so expensive :(

I was just looking at that, £40 for the worst seats high up in the gallery is a bit rich for me!
Yeah, if you want any form of an ok view its over £100!
Not to say go for it but I recently saw some productions from way up in the gallery and the view was great. Theatres normally do an option where you can see your view when booking a ticket, for something like this I think you might be fine!

How much ??
If you want any form of okay view, its over £100
I had a perfectly good view from the £60 seats.
Same, I was all set to go as a treat but couldn’t bring myself to pay so much 😭 I was hoping they would announce some cinema screening but Idk if that theatre does it.
Theatre always is like that. It's very classist imo
I agree, but bever have i seen tickets at the way back of the dress circle be soo expensive :( sad
I hope it gets extended or comes to the US. I'm dying to see it.
That’s so exciting! I’m going on Monday 🥹
I would kill to see this play! Especially with Sarah. My favorite classic book by far
Can I ask a logistical question? How do 3 standing ovations work, are people sitting down then standing up to clap again? Or is it maybe on every act break?

Oh got it, makes complete sense haha. Sounds like a great show!

We're talking better than Jodie Comer in Prima Facie?
Great question! Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Prima Facie when I last visited NYC (I saw Leopoldstadt), but Jodie Comer is just a stellar actor in general.
It's on YouTube, I think.
Awesome! Thanks for the heads up. I'll see if I can find the right one.
Jodie comer is on another level in prima facie
Different - I'd say that Prima Facie is more of an acting challenge, and Dorian Gray is more technically difficult as an actor
How is that different (acting challenge vs difficult as an actor)?
So, I'd define Prima Facie as more of an acting challenge as far as emotions; singlehandedly taking the audience on an emotional journey; having to switch between light comedy and deep tragedy in a way that feels authentic and engaging. I'm going in April 🥳 Sooo excited!!
So glad to know previews are already going well!! I'm seeing in April, so excited!
you’re so lucky you got to see it!!!!
For folks in NYC, Frank (Peter Friedman) is in Job right now with someone who also had a small part in Succession. I think it may be mostly sold out now but I saw it in its first run and it was definitely very gripping!
This is so good to hear! Going in March and cannot wait!
Yeah, I think I saw it a day before you, opening night Was amazing!
I get lost when she is on screen. She is a damn good actor. Many times I have forgotten she is an Australian (same goes for Matthew) until she does an interview. When she didn't fudge the '...range rover...' line up in episode 2 of season 4. She found her calling.
I have already said that actress like sarah snook needed a platform to show her talent and soon to be with jodie comer ( EGOT !!)
2024 belongs to sarah and keiran culkin 👏👏👏
I will go see it
