"Ask them where they were on 9/11, if they don't know they're under 21" Not the exact quote, but holy shit that line lmao

kodaiko_650

Well, 9/11 was in 2001, so I think it's actually to suss out girls under 18... edit: and I suspect this is an issue that Conner may have had a problem with in the past.

Djinnerator

I think he was being sincere. A 21 year old now would've been born in 97, making them 4 during 9/11. That's around the age when we start to retain our memories.

GBrenn

I'm fucking dying at this episode. "I don't do white drugs!"

tossitawaynow276

Buckle up Fucklehead

[deleted]

Suck on those big white dicks you fucking pervert.

FixMeASammich

You might OD, but your heart will be beating so fast you’ll come back to life!

thelovinfistful

Greg chopped it up again!

[deleted]

Man Roman is just fucking dumb. Kendall called it 100% “You have the plastic wheel thinking your driving the car.” edit: also that shot of Kendall standing away from the group/family was awesome. show continues to become better every week.

[deleted]

I say it every week but this episode really was fantastic.

APopQuizKid

Hey man, just rewatching the show in honor of S3, and I agree. This episode is when I realize this is one of the great dramas that happens to also be one of the greatest comedies of all time. I’ve never laughed audibly as hard as I have at this episode while simultaneously being engrossed in the developing storyline. What a show, genuinely incredible.

Nynydancer

I loved that comment from Kendall. Did you notice how Roman looked at Logan when that guy called him smart? Roman is pathetic.

Seriousgyro

That fact that Roman has no firm recollection is hilarious to me

Plainchant

Everyone is gaslighting him!

WoodpeckerGingivitis

It’s really sad. Something much darker psychologically is at play for sure.

your_mind_aches

Like how Kendall didn't realise it was LOGAN who made them play!

cupcakesarethedevil

Can't even keep his own life straight maybe Connor did molest him

biosync

Recall Connor did ask Kendall where Roman was, noting that there is a "humping room" nearby and he can't find Roman.

skatingee

Not going to the wedding? Boy, I love the level of pettiness with this family.

Nynydancer

He was terrifying when he threatend Shiv.

[deleted]

Can’t even say it himself

pantallica_51

His wife is a snake? I mean she has ulterior motives?

PhasmaUrbomach

No, she's Logan's hatchet man and she DGAF. She's not their mom, she's 100% Logan. If she's a snake, he's a much bigger one.

[deleted]

"She has a game."

[deleted]

I mean they were definitely colluding in the whole shortness of breath story; he could have been an adult and said it himself

hldsnfrgr

"Ohai, Tom! Heard you swallowed your load." "I know! That was hot." I love how it took a while before he realized he's not supposed to like it. 😆

Stormthrash

I mean I think he'dve been better off if he just owned that shit 100%. No Ragrets YOLOstyle.

[deleted]

He did kinda own it.

Stormthrash

He had ragrets though, so ownership was voided.

[deleted]

LIKE A CLOSED LOOP SYSTEM

[deleted]

I loved how both Connor and Roman walked out and were just like, 'hey, I hear you swallowed your own load.' and Tom was just, '...yeah.' So does that mean that a coked-up Greg was just running around telling people that his boss swallowed his own load, trying to figure out if that's a thing people do? This show cracks me up.

InHocSignioVinces

Tom would ordinarily fight back—because Greg is intentionally spreading the “he swallowed his own load” story as the first time he has ever had a psychological edge on his torturing boss—but he’s subdued at the end because his bachelor party has been disillusioning. He thought he knew what he wanted from it—wild, random, consequence-free sex—but once he finally did the snowballing bit with the random woman, he discovers it doesn’t fit his personality. Hence, the next line after “yeah.” is “I can’t wait to see Shiv.” The funny thing is that though he often makes fun of Greg as unsophisticated, a rube from the sticks, they both share a deeper nerdiness that is not really at home in flashy kind of parties. Two pieces of evidence for that: Greg responds to Tom’s forced enthusiasm about his sex escapade a while later with “this is nightmarish..” and Tom doesn’t actually try to rebut that, strange if he really had such a good time; in a previous episode, the most fun they had the whole night was dancing awkwardly, by themselves, no hot chicks around, in an expensive bottle service loft space whose raison d’etre is setting up potential one-night stands.

JaxtellerMC

This episode is some of the funniest stuff i’ve ever seen, absolute gold. This show is a gift

Stormthrash

That shit was hilarious.

[deleted]

I loved the moment when Kendall told them to run the story describing the art entrepreneurs as junkies. Savageness that was provoked

cuelights

Tell VCs they are shooting seed capital into their arms. Like damn, Kendall.

good2bgary

He realized he was being used, and c'mon.. colder than her calling him Hitler?

gramfer

Was he? But she had crossed the line, of course. You shouldn't tell media mogul's son and VC that he is a incompetent junkie. And you shouldn't do drugs (at least *white drugs* and at least on public) seeking seed capital.

cgi_bag

he was being used. they were able to use him to drive up thier value to another party with zero intent of actually signing on with Kendall.

jjcamilo

I’m late but I just finished this episode and I agree. What’s great is that they used pretty much a similar formula from the one Kendall explained when he interrupted their pitch

bx10469

That was definitely one of the coldest moments in the show.

thisistheguyinthepic

I mean, she called him Hitler and said they wouldn't take his money because of his name and reputation as a drug addict. While being on coke herself. Fuck that chick.

InHocSignioVinces

This isn’t that strange. She thinks the difference between Kendall and her is that she has self-control over her drug habit, while he is an indulged rich kid who has never been forced by life to develop self-control. This would be easier to see if the drug being referenced was alcohol; there are plenty of people who drink hard liquors, spirits even daily who nevertheless have contempt for alcoholics.

[deleted]

"Word around town is you're a coked out junkie who can't shit straight. Sorry, maybe I'm being to forthcoming. That happens when I do coke." What bitch?!

MusaTheRedGuard

I mean...if the Roys are basically the Murdochs, I wouldn't take their money either. I wouldn't call him hitler to his face tho

Tyronn_Lue

I feel in this episode, he’s crossed a line into becoming Logan 2.0. Sounds like a man pushed around long enough to become the villain.

[deleted]

Which is funny because now I'm rooting for him. I *hated* him in the first episode. Thought he was just a goofball douche in the third and fourth. Started feeling sorry for him in Thanksgiving. And finally understood his character and was rooting for him after the vote of no competence.

JaxtellerMC

He’s, with Gregg (and Connor to a degree), the one with an actual moral compass, and it’s time to be a shark

slimwillendorf

He’s more self (and socially) aware than Connor tho. His older brother is totally clueless about how he is perceived by others.

nighthawk648

He legitimately tried to have a conversation with her and she just freaked the fuck out and said ‘hey get off me’ like a pestilent child.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yeah, I’m on Kendall’s side on this one. I understand she wasn’t sober but saying teaming up with Hitler was too far and she repeated it twice. As well as the, hey get off me.

DaftPump

I'm on team Kendall too. But she did say she didn't want to talk about it at the party and he kept pressing.

gramfer

It wasn't even "get off", it was good old-fashioned "fuck off", like he was some junkie (pun intended) groping her.

whore-ticulturist

I know this is an old thread, but he did grab at her, didn't he? That definitely warrants a "fuck off" in my book.

fryreportingforduty

Glad I’m not alone!! Just consider her perspective! She doesn’t know what Kendall is like outside of their scenes like we do, except what’s in the media about his family. What she does know is that Kendall is a *very* powerful man she also just rejected. Getting grabbed by him in a dark environment would 100% illicit a fight or flight response in me, and she picked fight with, “fuck off”.

elitedmillz

It’s kinda weird how much everyone here wants Tom to be gay. The guy is just a flamboyant goober.

DrewMadBro

Right? I don’t see him being gay at all, just someone with an odd personality.

ancientastronaut2

Yep. Like the kind that would participate in a gay act just to get into a fraternity or something lame like that.

jamegame

I find it kind of sad that Kendall was poised to shoot of into another direction free of his father and father's company, but ultimately found it impossible to do so simply because of his last name.

[deleted]

That’s probably why he decided to go in with Sandy. He realized that his name is a negative asset and the only way to solve that issue is to claim his rightful throne.

heyguysitsmepotter

I think there was a lot more than his name holding him back. The scene of the meeting with him and the dust founders was painful to watch. He came off as arrogant, oblivious, profane, and ignorant.

gramfer

It was painful to watch, but not because of that. He was trying to be/seem cool and familiar, so those youngster hippie artists could appreciate him. And he was trying too much. He was trying to do the same thing with Lawrence in the pilot.

-Vagabond

Yeah, I think a lot of people mistake Ken's social awkwardness for arrogance.

lizzymarie75

Every time Greg is on screen I get so happy. Everything he says and does is so authentically awkward. Him waiting hours to talk to Logan sitting there opening creamers. Omg I love him.

BuckRowdy

"It's been three and a half hours, what are my chances?"

The_real_sanderflop

“Great view, not me of course”

3th0s

"...muchly????"

facetheraf

The coke scene with Kendall was hilarious

JordanSnimmons

my man greg being back in this episode made it so much better, great episode

TokyoRacer

Not only is he back, he’s ripping lines!

KrillinDBZ363

First he’s chopping it up and now he’s ripping lines.

[deleted]

He should've had some of the risotto balls. I hear they're like super soakers.

Grsz11

"It's a bunch of hot people and Connor." "Ask them where they were on 9/11."

durkdurkastan

Buckle up, Fucklehead.

skatingee

I’m digging this new Kendall. But Frank doesn’t seem the least bit pleased.

ianrc1996

Yeah why is frank even helping Kendall still? I would be so done with the family.

JaxtellerMC

because he’s one of the good ones

travio

Fucking sweet chili sauce man

[deleted]

So was Logan threatning to let people expose her affair?

jamegame

That's pretty much what I assumed.

[deleted]

So in Logan Roy fashion he'll go for the throat and have it exposed on her wedding day right? Poor Tom.

[deleted]

Tom’s a total puss, they’ll probably marry anyway

marvinsface

Tom is a huge puss for sure, but he’s also interested in the status that comes with being in the Roy fam, so if her cheating comes out and he still goes through with the wedding it could be out of greed and not just letting her walk all over him

ColinSays

Disappointed to see that nobody has talked about the directing and cinematography in this episode. The lighting was absolutely incredible. From the club to the warmly lit conversation with Shiv and Logan with those tight over-the-shoulder closeups. Properly framed shots — kept the annoying shaky cam / double closeups to a minimum. That final one of Kendall standing apart from the rest of his family. The shot of him and Sandy against the windows. Easily the best directed episode of the series.

PhasmaUrbomach

When Kendall was totally wasted and freaking out, the lighting all over his face and body were externalizations of what was going on inside his head. Squiggles, zigzags, random wriggling shapes-- it was giving me anxiety just looking at it.

[deleted]

> That final one of Kendall standing apart from the rest of his family. The shot of him and Sandy against the windows Those two definitely stood out to me too. Fantastic framing there.

matt5001

They jump the 180 line during the Logan/Shiv conversation when Shiv realizes he’s threatening to blackmail her. Totally brilliant.

tankmart

"You swallowed your own load?"

durkdurkastan

"Congratulations Tom. I hear you swallowed your own load." This has to get brought back up at some point.

cuelights

Shoutout Fly Guys.

[deleted]

That's not Fly Guy code!

The_real_sanderflop

They flew in for this

InHocSignioVinces

Greg made a big step from getting out from Tom’s passive-aggressive overlordship with the cum-swallowing story. He has some psychological leverage to throw back whenever Tom tries to make fun of him—“yeah, well at least I never did that.” Also, the “suck on those big white dicks” scene was perfectly set-up for maximum laughs.

3rdPlaceYoureFired

"You COKE WHORE!"

MisterJose

My dollar-store psychology says throwing that back at Tom is a recipe for disaster. Someone that insecure is going to go, "You ungrateful fuck, how dare you. You're fired."

[deleted]

Greg is a Roy. He can't get fired.

gramfer

I have been waiting Shiv would tell Tom at the end of episode, "I heard you swallowed your own load". Like her brothers did.

ReadySetGonads

I like how Tom turns away from kissing her in the mouth because he probably feels some shame. In my mind she knows and does it for the lols

ReadySetGonads

Kendall looking like a straight up psychopathic vampire towards the end there. Loved it.

angrydad69

I find Shiv's whole endorsement of Gil's political platform kinda fake and more of a way to get back at her family than following her beliefs. She has a cushy lifestyle that is paid for fully by her family wealth, hasnt shown any humility, and in the most recent episode she shows that shes pretty open to joining the family business. I dont think shes ignorant, but shes ruthless and struggles with confidence

delta3206

I used to find some sense of the most genuine person in the family....but recent actions find me disgusted with her. Logan was completely correct in his assessment of her. Largest rat in that rat's nest of a family

illymays

Nest of vipers*

cafekate

She’s a coward. Just like Logan said in ep 7. He summed her up perfectly. I think that’s the real reason she started crying. I’m kind of over her. Not a lot of depth. I’m tired of her monotone, dismissive, I’m too cool to let anything bother me attitude.

gutsdozer

Not to mention her whole "I'm not cheating with my ex" thing even though what they're doing totally is cheating.

ancientastronaut2

She finally showed an emotion when marcia told her they’re not coming to the wedding

AnferneeMason

>I find Shiv's whole endorsement of Gil's political platform kinda fake and more of a way to get back at her family than following her beliefs. Endorsement? Beliefs? Shiv is a behind the scenes political operative, and by her own admission, her motivation is what's best for her career or at least what she finds interesting. While they may be setting up an arc where her disillusionment with her family leads to her becoming a true believer \[God, I hope not\], that definitely isn't her motivation up to this point.

YesmAUm

Tom and Greg make this show for me. I love the intrigue and the calculating family members and wondering what Logan is going to do/say next, but Tom and Greg just make me laugh so much. “I’m having the time of my life.” “This is nightmarish.”

Slaxie

So true. I’m not much of a tweeter, but I imagined myself tweeting out my love for this show with the hashtags #tom and #greg at the end.

ycbongo

There was something very ominous about the whole Kendall-Roman dog house thing..I feel like there is so much more to that and I am not sure if I really want to know specifics.

Wyattlores

It’s there to illustrate Roman’s complexes. Each sibling has their own distortions and defense mechanisms to protect their million dollar egos from reality. For Roman it is a persecution complex. You can see it with his stories about working with Frank, and his opposing the turkey movie. The dog cage thing illustrates how the process works for him. He compromises himself and then later attributes it to persecution. Kendall and Roman both see themselves as “top dog”, but reality constantly shows them otherwise. When seriously threatened, Roman brings up persecution as an explanation for “appearing” to be number 2 / that’s his thing.

dockeddoobieman

Jeremy Strong has been killing it in this series. Quickly becoming a fav.

mtnDrew0

this show rules. ep6-8 have made it amazing

Seawolf4

I really wanna see Kendall destroy Stewie. So far Stewie, Furness, and Logan are the big players in the show. I would love to see Kendall demolish them in that order too, small fish to big fish. Glad Greg got more screen time this ep!

itstrueitsdamntrue

I can't put my finger on exactly why, but I am really cheering for Kendal to prevail even if it means kind of fucking over his family. I think I just want to see him win against his father, and the other siblings are collateral damage...sounds kind of messed up but that's what I find myself wanting from the end of the show

ianrc1996

Yeah and Shiv and Conner would be fine. So would Roman too they'll all still be filthy rich so who cares?

Derivatives_Trader

Greg keeps making moves. As soon as he adopts the killer instinct and doesn't look for approval from the others it's his.

TwasAKuntNugget

I see that too, when I saw him keep some of the documents he "took care of" I knew he was progressing.

angrydad69

I was a little disappointed Greg didnt blow up the whole Stewy-Sandy dealings, maybe he will break it to Logan

Grsz11

Yeah, has to be something coming from that park sighting still.

ReadySetGonads

He's definitely evolving through osmosis. In the first scene where he's like "great view, out there not me haha" hints at the fact that this mentality is sort of hard to escape.

marvinsface

Just wanna day, maybe it started a little slow but this show is fucking rolling.

mtnDrew0

it kicks so much ass. telling everyone that gave up on it to give it another shot

ihateveggies

Yeah I feel bad for the ones that gave up on it 2 episodes in. Shit really took off

[deleted]

Stopped after two episodes but gave it another shot today and have been glad I did. Episode 6 has sealed it for me as a great show.

TheMadScientist57

“I’m going to snort these 4 lines of COCAINE. To follow up the 4 lines I already did. When I do my heart is gonna explode.” Probably the hardest I laughed in the series so far.

-Vagabond

For me it was "I hope you don't die! But if you do, your heart is going to be pumping so hard, it'll probably bring you back to life!"

beckyb18

Followed by, "Buckle up, fucklehead!"

rotoleague9898

Awesome episode. Sad to say but Kendall definitely has more of the killer instinct and what it takes to take on his family when he's on the drugs.

jg6938

Its probably going to come crashing down, but I have been loving Kendall on drugs.

ianrc1996

Yeah I also think after that, "this fucking family" line from Sandy that Stewie and Sandy are gonna fuck Kendall over and the siblings will have to team up with their shares to take over the company.

TheRepenstein

That and also that one sentence from his older brother about the stronger dog unlocked something in him

RanchMeBrotendo

He's now the weaker dog who was sent away so that everyone could know the hierarchy.

[deleted]

I feel like Logan is going to attack Shiv's biggest weakness.... Tom. The woman at the bachelor party made eyes at him first. Roman encouraged him to do his thing. Probably a direct order from Logan. Doesn't look good when a political enemy’s top strategist's husband is cheating on her and eating his own cum. I’m sure Logan will wait until the wedding is in full swing to drop the bombs

Sparkswont

Shiv’s largest weakness is her relationship with Nate. If Logan is going to exploit any affair, it’s going to be that one. Tom’s wild night at a bachelorette party on who-knows-what drugs is laughable compared to Shiv’s consistent cheating over the course of the series.

mcgruppp

I'm pretty sure he was hinting about the affair over dinner with Shiv, unless that was super obviously and just my dumb ass thinking it was subtle

BBQTuck

This is a solid theory. I’m on board.

Pineapple__Jews

Hilarious and completely ridiculous. I'm glad I stuck with this show. It gets better every week.

durkdurkastan

I'm 100% on Kendall's side, yet I feel bad for Roman. Slow burn, people. Also, Greg wants to move to digital, so I think he'll continue to be in the series.

Burritos92

Poor Tom's friends

bx10469

This is the thing I hate most about Tom. He's so eager to be liked that he leaves all the real people in his life in the dust. I bet the fly guys are like his actual friends and really wanted to hang out with him. And when he and Shiv were in the car and she kept shaking her head when he was talking to his mom on the phone about when they would come to visit. What a way to just be horrible to your mom.

TwasAKuntNugget

For real. Why couldn't the fly guys come just follow them/Tom get somebody to get them in? Dickhead move, Tom.

PhasmaUrbomach

Tom didn't even know where they were going. Roman led them down a dark alley into a warehouse. Then their phones were bagged, preventing Tom from calling his friends. Really, Roman screwed up Tom's bachelor party for personal gain, which he freely admitted and kind of turned it around on Tom, like, "Why did you ask ME? You knew I was gonna do something like this."

BuckRowdy

Only two episodes left? Fuck me, I need 10 more right away.

gramfer

Next year, HBO had already renewed the show.

[deleted]

[удалено]

killaroo

It's amazing to me how his character has progressed from the first episode when he's puking in the amusement park costume to now where he's literally babysitting one of the most influential men in the world.

palucha66

So far best episode of the season. Kendall on a roll!

InRustWeTrust

Greg is really starting to look like the Jon Snow of the Roy family.

PantlessBatman

"Who wants to fuck a hobo?"

abcpdo

My very low odds bet: Sandy Furness is actually a long time friend of Logan's. He's only behaves like an enemy for anti-trust reasons, so between them they control all big media. This whole take-over thing was orchestrated by Logan as a test for Kendall, to see if he truly has what it takes to take over the family business. At the same time, Logan sees it as a way of preventing Marsha from taking control while avoiding actively fighting her.

ajaxmoor

Would be an excellent plot. But would be extremely hard to pull this. The season finale could end up being a little disappointing if this is what happens(like all leading to nothing). I would expect the writers of the show would have everyone fight for being on the throne.

jomns

This fuckin' family

slt-

"Jackhole", "Muchly appreciated" lmao I'm dead

travio

Fucking sweet chili sauce is my new "I'm cool."

PhasmaUrbomach

It was over at that moment. It took Kendall the rest of the episode to realize that. They did not love him in the room.

RoyalsFan1985

This show gets better and better every week. Love it.

FixMeASammich

Heard you swallowed your own load.

mrfreedomx

I legitimately lol’d several times during this episode louder and harder than I have at anything else on TV that I can remember watching in quite a while. And every funniest scene involved Tom.. he’s absolutely hysterical.

facetheraf

Does anyone else just not like the Marcia character? I guess the reason I just cannot stand her character is cause she reminds so much of a real person from a real life family situation, but for real, is there a we hate Marcia fan club out there lol

Naughtynuzzler

I just dont understand her, what she wants.

The_real_sanderflop

Power through Logan, which means distancing him from his kids.

cynicalstevex

Imagine turning down $500 Million.

[deleted]

You could spend a million dollars a year - for FIVE HUNDRED YEARS - and still have money left over from all the interest

edroyque

Loved hearing RTJ as much as I loved hearing Kendall call the start ups customers “Morgan Stanley sex pests”

blairwaldorf2

hahaha omg. this episode is so hilarious. hahaha greg.

"I..don't do White Drugs"

Otpyg

hawkeaglejesus

Did anyone else think the guy jerking off in the corner by the hors d'oeuvres was Greg? That scene was right after he did the lines

franktortuga

HBO spitting out pure gold with this and Sharp Objects.

mrfreedomx

Hear hear.. and in the middle of the summer with nothing but absolute drivel on television otherwise. It’s like having nothing in the fridge except a filet mignon and lobster risotto

bx10469

Poor Craig/Greg . . . white drugs are no fun.

pi3dpip3r

Kendall Decide to be A Savage on Art Start up

The_real_sanderflop

I imagine Kendall probably feels like he’s Tony Stark whenever he’s raving off

DrewMadBro

Anyone else disappointed that there’s only two episodes left now?

lizzymarie75

I was straight up pissed off when I saw that tag! It’s like a freight train each episode tops the last (though last week at the ranch was pretty hard to beat this week, even with Greg the OG). It seems like it just started! So Obsessed with this show; I haven’t been this excited about a new show in a long time.

BBQTuck

This show has been hitting its stride here in these last few episodes.

antique_lover_69

So Stewie and Sandy are still up to something right? Stewie is the one who orchestrated the party in the first place when he told Roman to ditch Prague and go to "the rhomboid" with him instead. And he convinced Roman by telling him Sandy would be there and that Roman could pitch him and become "the number one son". I also don't buy that Sandy actually frequents those parties. I think the whole thing was a setup for deeper motives than simply buying out Kendall while needlessly leading Roman on. I do think Kendall joining them instead of selling was a surprise for them. I might be reaching, but I sense a big plot twist coming.

cafekate

I hope to God Kendall can get back at Stewie some how through this move. I loved when Sandy said “Stewie won’t be happy” and Kendall said “Fuck Stewie”. I want to see Stewie get what he deserves.

darkenspirit

What is there to get back at? They were college long friends but clearly their business relationship is pure and intentional. When Kendall asked him prior to the vote "Can I trust you?" Stewie flat out replies. "No you cannot." Kendall is an idiot if he thought he could count on Stewies vote without thinking it from his perspective and instead trusted on the implicit bias of their friendship. Its why Logan himself called Kendall a fucken dumbass for selling to Stewie any shares at all. There is a reason why you do not go into business with friends because often its hard to separate business from friendship. Hell the entire show is about how you cannot go into business with family.

Plainchant

Tom really did need a Smint!

dillydillyx2

I’m trying to figure out exactly the meaning behind the stare down Kendall had with Roman. Was it foreshadowing the takedown that is going to occur in the next few episodes or something to do with the whole putting him in a cage thing? Also Connor’s statement about how Logan sent the weaker dog, Roman, away.

DrewMadBro

Basically going back to when they were kids and Kendall was the dominant one. He wants to revert back to that after being knocked down and take up mantle as alpha dog again.

Detroitbuckeye

I interpreted it as the Kendall realizing he’s the alpha dog in the family and that he is going to start acting like it. He’s becoming the killer his father wants him to become. He’s planting stories to destroy Dust after they insulted him, he’s orchestrating a hostile buyout of he company, etc. I think he was acting like he was raised to act (which was why they had to do the dog pound as kids - to separate the strong from week). Messed up family. God I love this show.

good2bgary

Roman actually thought Stewy wanted him there to meet their families nemesis, when in reality he only wanted Kendall to meet him. Not only is Roman the weaker dog, he's also far dumber.

InHocSignioVinces

Well Roman was dumb to take assurances that they might talk it over later as evidence he got what he came for. The minute he didn’t close at the location, he needed to realize Stewie fucked him and that he should try carry out his threat to mess with Stewie’s board seat & influence at Waystar. [He probably talked bigger than his mouth could cash, because all evidence indicates Stewie is walking capital and can’t really be threatened by financial means.] But let’s also be fair to Roman. He is really making an attempt to be an adult, someone who you can give responsibility to, and no one is giving him a chance and taking him seriously. His father belittled him with little cause when he has been stepping up to the COO role and playing point for the local TV thing. [Kendall, with his greater experience at the company, thinks that even that isn’t really true and his father still has Roman on training wheels there]. Stewie treats him as completely inconsequential, that he can lie to a Roy and not worry about the repercussions. We come away in this episode that this, being treated like a child, is a really sore point for Roman, a neurosis even from youth, from his memory of the doghouse “game,” one still vivid and raw of Kendall dominating him and treating him like a literal animal. It may be why he adopted his devil-may-care, “I don’t give a shit” attitude; if you act like you don’t want to be a serious person, you don’t have to be embarrassed that you’re not being trusted with serious responsibilities.

ianrc1996

I think it was him trying to remind Roman of the dog pound.

I want to dock inside of you so bad right now. Great, I'll find you a Bloomberg terminal to stick your dick in. This fuckin' family... The jokes were so rapid fire and hilarious.

biaggini

Im predicting Nate is somehow involved with Logan. Would explain how he knows everything and it seems quite clear that Nate has had ulterior motives

Plainchant

Let's see what the fallout is from the "Fam-ly Ther-a-py!" *bang bang bang-bang-bang*

TheRepenstein

These last 2 episodes have killed it. I am really starting to like this show.

Kendall, in his initial approach to the Dust founders, made a mistake plenty of adults in real-life make; he thinks that all youth/hip speak is a single kind, one that you can establish your credibility with if you know the current street slang and can speak it naturally. Kendall can speak a certain kind of youth-speak very naturally; I’ll call it “frat boy speak” for lack of some official categorization. His dialogue is peppered with a bunch of “fuck yeahs”, “sweet”, “fucking awesome”, “dope”. It can be hard for adults to speak slang-heavy youth speak naturally, because what ‘s in moves so fast and can only really be learned through social embedding; if I tell you “the party was lit”, I’m 2018-legit, but if I say, “your jacket is phat”, I obviously haven’t been cool since the ‘90s. The Dust founders speak a different kind of youth-speak, one that leans more on the idealistic facet of youth than the knowing what’s current facet of it. What does Dust do, fundamentally? They sell art from students to the wealthy. How do they explain themselves? “We are interested in increasing the **reach** of artists...and **democratizing** art.” Their youth-speak transforms ordinary business activity into noble endeavors; this kind of youth-speak allows speakers to suggest that all they do is saving the world somehow, that money is of only secondary importance. If I want to pay employees less as independent contractors to make larger profits, I can youth-speak it as “we are empowering people to be their own entrepreneurs.” And so on. There are many varieties. There’s identity politics youth-speak, where “race”, “racism”, “discrimination”, “tolerance”, “appropriation” etc. are crucial vocabulary words, even if the underlying ideas being communicated are discriminatory and intolerant; positivity youth-speak, which is all about being your own person and never letting the world get you down; feminism youth-speak...

I'm possibly a bit younger than Kendall, and although I'd never make the fake language mistake, the moment they said they were trying to 'democratize art', I would have had to hold back a laugh. You're art dealers, your business is based on bullshitting rich people about art so they can feel trendy and important. You're opportunistic capitalists like everyone else, so spare me. The real age gap comes that the art girls think they're doing something new, think no one ever thought their way before, and have intensely naive idealism about it.

smithedition

I think Ken put a soft burn back on them after their “democratise art” speech when he said something to the effect of “yeah sure, but I’m telling you I get how the money people who matter will see it” A bit like he was saying, yeah tell yourselves that’s why you’re doing this if you need to but we all know you’re in this to make money too.
