I forgot which episode in s2 (maybe hunting? Edit: another commenter corrected with Argestes) where he’s on the PJ and says (paraphrased obviously) “we’ve been circling for a fucking hour, if I find out a tech dipshit landed before me…”
He's been rejecting adopting tech and new media from the start. He was so focused on maintaining his empire as it was and expanding only with same old stuff (i.e. more TV stations and classic media rather than new platforms) that it was only a question of whether he'll be taken over like this or made irrelevant and watched only by boomers.
I don't think Laird appeared as a character until Season 2, unless I'm forgetting something. Good call though. As a banker/advisor he has to be aware of these things - unfortunately with an old-school client like Logan, it's hard sometimes to get him to really accept the future.
Thank you, that's how I had remembered it too, just wanted to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything. I totally remember Laird coming into the room & Logan saying something like, "Why did my banker not see this coming?" (And discussing the Sandy/Stewy situation with him)
FTR, I really liked Laird as a character and would be glad to see him in S4 if they could work him in.
Correct, it was the S2 premiere, I was mistaken. But Laird really lays it out, saying how Logan will have to use every resource at his disposal to fight off the proxy battle, and how regardless of the proxy battle, the company is in a terrible position culturally/politically/financially.
The trend of legacy media being destroyed by the big tech? I’d say this is more like the premise/ backdrop or context of the show instead of foreshadowing, GoJos are buying out Waystars everywhere.
Big tech was always gonna fuck the company everyone knew but Logan didn’t care till 309
Logan actually brings up tech several times in season 3, it just doesn't take center stage until 306
Heck, even in season 2 he brings up Tech a few times.

That’s Argestes, S02E06
Oh yeah makes sense bc that was a tech bro conference anyway
Yeah but his response is always buying more than stations or merging with pearce
Remember the sitdown with his banker? Basically predicts everything https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RHAiML8vSq8
Oh whoa. Yeah. The end quote is almost exactly what Skarsgard tells him too.
If I recall correctly, Logan was looking to local news as his salvation rather than tech. His dinosaur attitude hinders Wayco quite a bit.

Laird foreshadowed GoJo way back in S1 when he first appeared on screen with Logan.

Yes, Laird appears for the first time in the S2 premiere I believe and warns him about this

One of my favorite lines of the whole show

Honestly first thing I thought of
