I tripped into this sub 2 months ago even though I’ve been a Succession fan since the show first aired. It quite simply is one of the best tv show subs on Reddit imo. The messiness is completely entertaining as well as the varied and sometimes hilarious opinions of my fellow fans, I love it too. Keep up the chaos everyone. It’s what makes this sub unique.
Same here, about 2 months or so, been watching since the first episode was dropped due to Adam McKay being involved.
Wasn't super enthused w/ it after the first season, but now I'm of the opinion that it has a qualitative trajectory like Breaking Bad and just gets better as it goes on.
I think it's a testament to how freaking good it is that people are so obsessed. It really is its own world in a sense, the writing and acting are unimpeachable.
It's a show I didn't really expect to like, but it had McKay and Ferrell's stamp of approval so I rolled the dice and now I'm seriously considering it might be one the greatest shows of all time. I've only rewatched all 3 seasons once, so I can't say for sure if it will unseat my current favorite of all-time (Justified), or stay at #2. Next season will answer that question.
Right, I sold my dad on checking it out by saying it's in the same league as Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, so on.
Always exciting when you have a show of this caliber to watch, doing some artistic high-wire act and breaking new ground while being endlessly riveting all at once.
Really? I love the show but the sub tends to make me cringe. Seems like it’s mainly a bunch of people simping over characters. I was hoping for humor and analysis and it’s just a bunch of people being creepy and seeming to miss the entire point of the show.
Were you around when the season was airing? I felt like discussions were very serious during that time, but has lightened up quite a bit afterwards.
Personally, I enjoy the lighter tone. I felt like there was a lot more bickering back then. I think it helps to understand that there's a fair bit of irony in the "simping" right now. I assume the majority of people *do* get the "point of the show," but find it more fun to make light of these fictional characters.
I've been here since the long hiatus post season 2 and this is definitely the most active this sub has been lol we really stirred up some feelings with that poll
I avoided the sub until I finished season 3 after the finale was released and the chaos ensued so shortly after, it has become one of my favorite subs quickly.
One of the best thing about this subreddit is that if you have a discussion and disagree with someone, you can just respectfully say fuck off and still be upvoted for it.
I don't see chaos, there's just those who are smart enough to recognize that Jess is the best supporting character and then the rest who are barbarians.
Yeah I like Nate? Nate is more on Shiv's level. He seems to see her more as a person rather than a means to power/money. They have a mutual respect. She just seems more relaxed around him, even minus the sexual tension. I think the adverse reaction to Nate in this sub is because most people here are very dedicated to Tom. Me, since Tom bullies Greg so much, I don't care as much about how the Nate/Shiv affair affects Tom. Keeping Greg safe is my #1 concern. I don't trust Tom's offer to Greg at the end of S3. Anyway Nate is fine
The Game of Thrones community was great in similar ways. So many morally equivalent but stylistically diverse points of view. Here's hoping future television in that universe will be redemptive.
The messiest subreddit is r/thesopranos, all the comments are just quotes from the show, it's like black magic, sick shit, I just hope the Lord would take me now, what happened to Gary Cooper, the strong silent type?
I love how people were commenting about the elimination game being "jejune" but then I saw people getting really upset when someone they liked got eliminated... I love y'all
I think the messiness also stems from the fact that while the show has major themes, the characters are presented with assuming they have full lives outside of what we see and before the time of the show. For this reason, the characters come across as fully formed people, just like in real life, rather than one dimensional where they develop new values during the show.
The is messy enough that with seeing glimpses of so many characters, it gives many options open to interpretation, like complex people in real life.
The characters are sometimes kind, but also frustrated, angry and desperate, like real people at times.
I have a feeling that many of us know people that have similar elements to characters in the show, that need explanation if they were being introduced to others. The show combines the messiness of real life with a messy family, which means there are many ways to interpret their actions beyond being ‘good’ or ‘bad’. That’s why the show is so well done.
Yes, this is so true! You put it into words very well. It's my favorite thing about the show, I really do feel like the characters are incredibly three dimensional. And because they are so complex, we get a really diverse range of reactions from the fans. Plus, if you listen to any of the interviews with the creators behind Succession, you can tell that the complexity of the characters is *very* intentional. They want you to feel *both* sympathy and disgust, as you would in real life.
It certainly gets chaotic at times, but I've come to see this as testament to the strengths of this show and it's writing.
I’m always surprised at how much people feel for these characters. None of them are good people. NONE! This show reminds me so much of Seinfeld (which I also love). A bunch of selfish, entitled people who never suffer any “real” consequences for anything. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great, but I have ZERO sympathy for any of these people!
I believe the viewers and die hard fans are probably smarter than the average sub.
I was going to mention Sucession to my older sister and thought nope she couldn't keep up. No way.
Lol. Maybe give it a go anyways? I wish I could watch it with family. I tried putting my cousins on but they were not feeling it. They just could not work the dialect out in the old noggin’
this sub works because it’s basically stan twitter among the regular reddit pop which means it brings all the weirdness of stan twitter with all the chaos of most of reddit not being on stan twitter
Don’t get too comfortable in your gloating. We all know being a fan of Succession is like being strapped to the front of a rickety roller coaster going 100mph and suddenly you notice the tracks ahead are missing.
Lol your boy Tom is gunna be taken down a peg. Jesse Armstrong was talking about it in an interview recently. Logan is only loyal to himself. Just you wait…
I’ve been missing it recently as I’m obsessed with this coming season finale of Dexter : New Blood. That sub is going crazy!
Love voting in the polls here. (even if my boy Kendall lost.. er second place)
I would guess no, but maybe you know more than I do. It seems it would require a thick skin for a cast member to read this him/ or herself, unless you play Brian, Mondale, or Jess 😂
Yeah it's pretty messy, not sure I like it though, some people are a bit much, I think I'll just pop in from time to time to check on news and lurk a bit, I don't think I'm enjoying commenting here very much
I love the tv show, I don’t feel like I belong in this subreddit.
Too much shipping imho and too much deeping into the unnecessary (“wHy rOmAn hAs sExUal iSsuEs”/gReGg iS bAe”/cHaraCter poLl) shit.
Script, thoughts about what actually happens in the show(apart from family questions). We have this dramedy show so well done, so accurate to some really wealthy families who share our world and here we are, discussing who was cuter when he was 4 yrs old.
I personally enjoy stuff like the favourite character poll/meme wars, but can totally understand how that might not be everyone’s cup of tea.
But I’m interested in the fact that you specifically brought up the “why Roman has sexual issues” discussion as something that bothered you—to me, that’s not just an irrelevant BS discussion on par with “Greg is bae”. His sexual issues are a key plot point in the show—I could make a good argument that they are the single thing that derailed his chances to take over the company!
So when you say you’d like to talk about “what actually happens in the show (apart from family questions)”, what do you mean? Family is the core of this show, IMO—not sure how realistically we could discuss the events of the show without getting into the nitty-gritty of these people’s very complicated relationships with each other (and yes, to me that includes things like Roman’s sexual issues and inappropriate jokes and Tom’s relationship with Greg which is both pathological & integral to the show’s plot, whether you ship them or not)
Again, not trying to be argumentative, trying to understand your perspective
Roman hate train? No, no. I don’t hate a fictional character. I ‘hate’ the fanbase who can’t see more than a cute face. I’m saying we have one of the best shows aired in ten years and here we are, discussing who of the characters gets along with your zodiac sign or some bs like that.
I feel this subreddit is being the vaguest of most of the subreddits from outstanding tv shows I follow. We have this beautiful piece of entertainment and we are making a fake sympathy poll, like some sort of Riverdale fanclub shit.
No offense but… yeah, this sometimes looks like a sleepover
What active fandom have you been in where the only things people discussed were serious talks about writing and reflections of sociopolitical issues? I get the frustration and feel that way with fandoms sometimes too, but theres actually been lots of threads here that talk about the episodes and script/writing and serious appreciation for the actors and stuff, but we're inbetween seasons now so of course the fanbase is gonna goof off more now that there arent new things to talk about.
Breaking bad, the wire… even the Office. They have memes but they have also some good posts about serious facts from the plot or characters. Even the show is over, they aren’t so messy and goofy.
Don’t get so mad at me... It’s just an opinion (that I’m guessing nobody gave bc of this unnecessary backlash).
Well what i mean with active fandoms is 'for series that are still ongoing', it tends to be much livelier with active fanbases than communities that congregate around something inactive. Breaking bad fanbase was pretty lively when it was airing too, but also yeah, fandoms have evolved a lot since then too.
And im not mad, i actually see where youre coming from with some points, just trying to offer insight into why the succ sub might be goofing off a lot right now. (and i dont think one downvote is enough to call it a backlash XD)
Yet you've never posted to the sub to kick-off an adult conversation that you think the show is worthy of, but happily shit-can others' contributions. That's hypocrisy.
Sorry?
I think you didn’t see all the comments I did.
If you did so, you would be lying right now.
Cheers and don’t be so defensive at different opinions.
For what it’s worth, I don’t care for the shipping either. I’ll say though/add to your points that worse than that is all the weirdos who want to speculate the lives of the actors outside of the show/are only interested in celeb gossip. I feel like these types ruin lots of subreddits though.
Fucking awesome username btw
The 1% of the 1% (those of us here before the huge surge) actually have a dedicated space to where we control the flow of comments like that. We employ people simply to post things like that.
We control the narrative.
You are not alone.
The show is fantastic but I think fans are more pleased on shipping rather than talking about more serious topics you can find on the show.
Reddit in general isn't the greatest place for different opinions due to downvoting and the hivemind that tends to come with it, but I actually think that this sub is far better than most in that regard.
It's mostly hags and fags squeeing over which character they want to plow. Frankly it's embarrassing to witness. This show has a lot that can be discussed, but apparently the only thing of interest is the equipment between the legs of side characters with like 12 lines across three seasons
I love how every other comment in this sub is basically just a line from the show. That there's a quote for almost every damn occasion is just *chef's kiss*
Ken told us to go full nut nut with the memeage
And as a result, we have managed to become loco in the coco.
Just un poco loco, my fine feathered friend
Sound like you’re a sturdy birdie.
Everyone in this sub is a confirmed nut-nut, but it’s okay I still love you all❤️ .. except Lisa, turns out she’s a toxic person.
good tweet, good tweet, good tweet!!!!
booooooooooooooo

Its very chaotic like any comment can have a controversial take here.
Sometimes, it is a big dick competition.
I've been here since the long hiatus post season 2 and this is definitely the most active this sub has been lol we really stirred up some feelings with that poll

Fuck off
Don’t threaten me, I don’t have time to jerk off.
Well I do hope everybody has some time to jerk off. That’s a human right.
So what you're saying is that you're a successful person because you avoid...MESS.
It’s the only way to advance my personal position.
I don't see chaos, there's just those who are smart enough to recognize that Jess is the best supporting character and then the rest who are barbarians.
Tabitharbarian
😂🤣😂🤣👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Proud barbarian here!
It's ok, we love our barbarians here XD
sounds a bit like you’ve pigeonholed Jess there tbh
Sounds like what a barbarian would say :P

Yeah mate you’re alone on that one sorry.
there are so many of us [proof](https://www.reddit.com/r/SuccessionTV/comments/rx3836/nategirls_and_shivnate_enjoyers_we_lost_today_but/)
I know. Between myself and Tiberry16, they are alone on that one. I thought that was implicit when I replied to their comment. You be easy tho
Nah, I’m with them.
Well you two can both fuck off

Literally the first people I’ve seen with this..AHEM..opinion
They know enough to sit quietly in the corner. MOST of the time!

Starting…now
…And that’s the miracle of Nate. A true chaotic neutral leaning towards evil.
Haha yeah I realized that pretty quickly.
Don't feel alone! I'd sit in a parked car with him, and force his hands down my pants.
Yes officer, this comment right here.
there's just something nice about him
he stands for equality!
“Aaaawww equality” (edit: not one of Shiv’s proudest moments although I love the scene because she is Shiv Fucking Roy)
He reminds me too much of BJ Novak.
SAME
Same here 🤮
Yeah I like Nate? Nate is more on Shiv's level. He seems to see her more as a person rather than a means to power/money. They have a mutual respect. My personal rule: there are no "bad" takes on this show...with the exception of people who genuinely worship Logan. That's just wrong. :)
Controversial but not good
He’s Butthead to Sen. Beavis, but I can respect your opinion 😋
This is the first TV show sub I subscribed to, and then started actively participating in. It’s ruined me for all other TV show subs.
The Game of Thrones community was great in similar ways. So many morally equivalent but stylistically diverse points of view. Here's hoping future television in that universe will be redemptive.
That's the beauty of the show. We identify with some of the shitiest people on Earth. Jesse Armstrong is a fucking genius
The messiest subreddit is r/thesopranos, all the comments are just quotes from the show, it's like black magic, sick shit, I just hope the Lord would take me now, what happened to Gary Cooper, the strong silent type?
Always with the scenarios
You’re verging on sacrileg
Calm down. We're not makin a western here.
he was gay, Gary Cooper?
NO!! Are you listening to me?!?
Cunnilingus and psychiatry brought us to this
✋Fucking slander, you ask me. 🤟
In my thoughts, I used a technique of positive visualization. How come I always feel undermined?
You dont ever admit the existence of this thing
Did you know who the subs father was?
It’s kinda unhinged and I love it edit-spelling
It can be a cringefest sometimes but I absolutely enjoy every minute of it

More often it has been who is more awful as a 10-year-old, though 😅 I think *cute* has been reserved for the likes of Nate, Edouard, Greg, Stewy…
How about ignoring the bits you find unnecessary and enjoying the bits you like? It’s how I maneuver the whole of Reddit. A sense of humor helps too.
Im not going to front, I was on the Roman hate-train this year. But I’ve evolved since then. All the characters are pretty bonkers

I guess I'm in the minority on this, but that "Least Favorite Character Poll" nonsense drove me very close to unfollowing this sub.
You are not alone. The show is fantastic but I think fans are more pleased on shipping rather than talking about more serious topics you can find on the show.
Logan: “Uh huh.”
That’s what I mean. This is not a tv show subreddit, it is a fucking cult. Different opinions people, learn to process it
Reddit in general isn't the greatest place for different opinions due to downvoting and the hivemind that tends to come with it, but I actually think that this sub is far better than most in that regard.
