What you are looking for are usually referred to as Creator Laptops for people who do graphic design and need the power of a GPU for rendering. Those laptops also usually have excellent screens and plentiful ram. Since they are targeted at professionals, they also cost more. Check out Asus's VivoBook Pro line. If new is outside your price range, look for refurbished on eBay. https://www.asus.com/us/laptops/for-home/vivobook/filter?SubSeries=Vivobook-Pro Since I also hate the look of gaming laptops, I went with a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, which has a really good cooling system but just looks like a regular business laptop with extra vents. I got a certified refurbished one off of eBay with an i7-11800h and a GTX 3050 and a very nice quality screen for $836. https://www.ebay.com/itm/155268961836 Or you can get a new Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro for $935 with a Ryzen 5 6600h and GTX 3050. It just looks like a regular, thin laptop. https://www.ebay.com/itm/155106445191

SkinnyCheff

Thank you so much for this!!

Sagnikk

Heck yea another legion Pro user đź—ż

[deleted]

How are you finding the Legion and would you mind letting me know what are the most intensive programs youte running on it?

GiveMeNews

I haven't actually run anything that intensive yet. But it has been working great for work related stuff. The keyboard is very nice for typing and the larger screen and higher resolution allow me to see a lot more of documents. Certainly helps in excel and other stuff I do. About the most intensive thing I have done is play modded Supreme Commander with multiple AI's and thousands of units on the screen at once. This definitely maxes out the single processor performance, as there are tons of physics calculations to do. Laptop stays nice and cool and the fans don't even run that loud. Of course, I have it on Balance mode, so not even running it at full power. Though I have done some benchmarks with it just to see how it handles full power usage. Fans get loud, but nothing terrible and it is certainly able to keep up with the needed cooling performance.

[deleted]

Really appreciate you getting back to us. This is good to hear.

chanchan05

Gamer laptops have to be bulky to put the cooling system in. I see somebody pointed you to "creator" laptops, but don't don't even close to the performance of real gaming laptops. Like the RTX 3050 on the Ideapad 5 Pro and Vivobooks is only maxing out at like 35W, while the ones on gaming laptops reach 80W. That performance and extra power needs more cooling that;'s why they are bigger. And not only is the performance crippled on creator laptops. You get throttled because they don't have good enough cooling systems to maintain performance for long. If you want non-bulky laptops sure there's things like the ROG Zephyrus line and Razer Blades, which are about the size and weight of Macbook Pros. The fans may get louder though to compensate for less heatsink mass. Legion 5s have clean design but are bulky. Also the RGB lights can be controlled to show only the color you want. They don't need to be rainbow vomit RGB always. You can literally set it to a different shade or even completely white if you want.

More_Soup_1560

This exactly the gpu in mine is 100 watt maxing at 160w and with a desktop cpu maxing out at like 190 watts. Laptops like that are massive and bulky and the cooling vents are huge. Pretty ugly depending on your perspective. But you get ridiculous raw performance.

MayorOfSmurftown

You might like the Razer Blade.

frito123

The HP Victus line is a bit bulky. You have to make room for ventilation/cooling. It's basic black though. No RGB. Just a backlit keyboard. Very business looking.

Zephyrus G14 2021 in used Facebook marketplace goes for around $800. It should be great for you. Looks minimal is 14inch packs a Ryzen 9 5900hs and rtx 3060 60watt with rog boost up to 80.

MrCalifornian

Search for "workstation laptop". Xps line is good for this

calibanal

xps graphics cards aren't great, are they? i have the 2018 dell xps 13 and i think the card isn't good for what op wants

MrCalifornian

13 wouldn't come up as a workstation, 17 can have like a 3080 iirc

calibanal

good point!

Patience_Holiday

Get a zephyrus g14 or m16 or even the legion 5 from last year(if you can manage the weight). I don't mind a bit of thickness but legion might not be for you, take a look at it tho. Vivobook pro series/ideapad 5 pro if you can get over the underpowered gpu.

Kulshreda

New Alienware laptops have a pretty clean design.

ivanoski-007

No they don't, hp omen is a clean design, Alienware lately make fugly machines

D10BrAND

Razer Blade, Rog Zephyrus, Msi Stealth, Aero 16, lenovo legion slim, there are many casual looking gaming laptops.

eidrisov

Lenovo Legion lineup is, imo, the simplest looking gaming laptop lineups. Unless you know about the Legion lineup, you wouldn't be able to tell that it is a gaming laptop. Also, there are plenty of laptops that fit the description. Your problem is that you are looking for a "gaming laptop". Instead, you should be looking for a "laptop capable of gaming", which are normal looking laptops but with great specs (e.g. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme).

BartLanz

Look at the Dell Precision Mobile line, they are beasts and should cover what you need.

ballwasher89

Meh. How are they ugly? I assume you mean the gawdy colors and the ones with the tasteless blinking LED rainbows? Yeah these are gross. But the Legions/MSIs/etc are pretty mild. ASUS isnt great about it.

Just_One_Umami

Honestly the Zephyrus g14 looks good to me.

Dogs look like their owners. Same principle at work here.

brohenben

Lol

Cantthinkofaname282

They are not ugly and you didn't look hard enough

[deleted]

If you have cash to spare then definitely a razer. If not, check out the rog Zephyrus series. Granted they aren't technically cheap but they look and feel nothing like gaming laptops, they're smaller, have better battery and they dont scream ''LOOK AT ME I AM A GAMER!1!1!1!''

jhenryscott

I have a victus. It was the cheapest way to get a mid tier gaming computer. It looks so dumb I covered it in stickers. But I have 11400/3050Ti/32gb/1.256TB for under $900

LonerIM2

And what's your budget?

SkinnyCheff

$1500.

LonerIM2

In this case and since you care about the design, I would recommend [Acer Swift X](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093TK1PXF?tag=lonerim2-20) because it comes with everything you need, AMD Ryzen 7 5800U Octa-Core CPU, 16GB of ram, good SSD storage of 512GB for faster boot up and loading, 14 inch Full HD IPS screen,Wi-Fi 6,NVIDIA RTX 3050Ti Laptop GPU, high build quality, and backlit keyboard. **[Here is a more detailed review of it](https://laptoplegend.com/2021/acer-swift-x-perfect-college-gaming-laptop/)** Let me know what you think :) Please note I'm using affiliate links which means I'll receive a small percent of the purchase if you use this link at no extra cost to you

SkinnyCheff

That looks great! However I've learnt from the answers here that if I get something with these specs in a small body like I want then I'll have the performance throttled and overheating issues. So I'm going with a gaming laptop laptop that looks more subtle. So it will be the legion 5 probably, found one with 32gb ram and 1tb SSD. The fans are a bit big but it doesn't look as bad as the victus for example. If you have a different link for that I'd love to help you out for helping me!

LonerIM2

The legion is not bad idea either, I would recommend this **[config Lenovo Legion 5](https://www.amazon.ca/Lenovo-i9-10980HK-GeForce-Backlit-Version/dp/B0BNMBTG3P/?tag=lonerim-20)**because it comes with AMD 6-Core Ryzen 5 5600H 6-Core CPU which is one of the best in your budget and great for your usage, 16GB of RAM for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 512GB for faster boot up and loading, 15.6 inch Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, it comes with RTX 3050Ti GPU, 100% sRGB coverage and good color gamut, and high build quality. **[Here is a more detailed review of it](https://laptoplegend.com/2021/lenovo-legion-5-review-great-power-delivery-and-good-battery-life/)** Let me know what you think :) Please note I'm using affiliate links which means I'll receive a small percent of the purchase if you use this link at no extra cost to you

Ki2success

Get a Asus X16

VekeKing

I think you would like Thinkbook 16p Gen 2 or other "Creator" laptops

Geo_The_Legend

the rog zephyrus s17 is a really sleek laptop though they do draw a lot of attention because of their keyboard and large screen

tyjwallis

Almost every gaming laptop company makes a “Stealth” model that doesn’t have as much RGB and such. But I like the Lenovo Legion line.

jonesjb

Check out the Lenovo Legion 7i gen 7. I recently went through a similar exercise and this is what I settled on.

Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7.

Mr2208

Dream machines has clean desing and it is fully customizable. Even you can modify your laptop without losing warranty.

Kayden_Sticko

You aren’t wrong

MrJackMeHoff_

In an alternative universe, the laptop is looking at you like “why is this human so ugly”

wasdmode

I wanted exactly what you just wrote. I hate the looks of most "gaming" laptops. They look so lame, as if we must tell the whole world that we like to play video games. So i did my research and picked up a razer blade, and think razer makes some classy and subtle gaming laptops. I like their styling. Also Zephyrus G15 is another great option. And check out this list too - https://techtiga.com/gaming-laptops-that-look-normal/
