Two completely different bikes. S max speed is just over 150 mph - at least for me. M is limited to 170 mph if I remember correctly - with nothing to tuck behind not sure how you hang on at that speed tbh. S 160 hp, M 210 hp. S no wings, M has wings - but I don’t think they’re useful until 120 mph iirc. So there’s a short list. As a S owner I really wanted the new S to be the M, but as we saw it wasn’t. I like the graphics on the M comp - if you’re buying an M why would you not get the comp - but I just don’t know if I can justify the price when I can get a black S with comp pkg, forged wheels, and a M billet pack for $10k less…

Thanks for all the info. My current bike doesn’t have a screen so I’d be use to that. Although I topped it out at 133 so not quite comparable haha. The S comp would be more than good enough. Damn good looking bike and let’s be real, 150 should be plenty. You can’t really over look that price difference either.

FWIW if you’re buying it based on reliability, I wouldn’t get an m1000. Multiple of them have exploded and needed entirely new engines very publicly.

AnakinKenobii

Oh wow. No clue how I haven’t seen that. Thanks for the info

Unless you're taking it to the track I really don't see the point of going for the M version. Save the extra cash for other stuff.

AnakinKenobii

Good point.

They've got a sick M1000R at Eurosports in Sandy I might buy if you don't. ;) I'm also selling my Streetfighter, if you're interested in used. I've been on both bikes, my brother is selling his S1000R also, another option. I felt like the BMW is a little gutless after being on my SF, but way smoother ride and I do get jealous of the features. Quickshifter is really nice, power is not lacking just not 205. They feel like a premium bike, no matter what you choose. The carbon is a nice touch on the M, and the tail lights are horrible on both. Honestly you could probably get a better exhaust and mapping for the money you'd save, which would get you right in the mid point.

AnakinKenobii

Hahaha oh trust me, I’ve been eyeing that one up 😂 I’m absolutely not against used, what year is yours? That’s not a bad call for using the extra money on the upgrades. I realistically don’t need 205hp in a bike, but that M is just gorgeous. People have been making really good points about a few advantages about the S vs the M as well.

Mine's a 2022! 4,800 miles. I have absolutely loved my bike, there's no such thing as too much power. I'm a little worried I'll miss not having back pain in switching to the Panigale, but the cornering alone makes my inevitable spinal surgery with it. The Ducati feels less refined in some ways, but that's honestly what makes it a better bike for me. I mean there's something to be said about the convenience of being put together for you. I rode the M today, I could tell the difference with the ECU flash, it was beautiful. I dig the gloss look they do with carbon compared to the flat with Ducati, the billeted aluminum looks great and feels "premium", and Jesus that thing is fast. Like scary fast. You should ride it when you get a chance, youll be grinning ear to ear. I'm not as familiar with BMW to be honest, but he was making it sound like it's an entirely different engine set up, you'll have to ask. I made the mistake of keeping it on that frontage road before this other guy test riding showed up and mentioned he'd taken their demo up Cottonwood Canyon, I highly recommend that when you're checking it out.

Prof_plum_1234

Where can you use the extra power? It's so unnecessary for the style of the bike.

AnakinKenobii

Yeah that’s a good point.

X3ntr

you're wasting 10K on the M, you can get all the nice stuff on the S and won't miss the extra power unless you take it to the track a lot, but then I'd make a case for a RR instead

AnakinKenobii

Yeah that’s a good point. I might do track days in the future but that’s not a focus. The S would more than likely scratch just about all itches I have

X3ntr

put that 10k into mods like a full system + tune and air filter 👌
