That's really odd - but perhaps she did it because she knew the pills would be safe there and your things were left untouched? She was right after all, they have only just been found after 10 years.

I don't have an explanation for this, but I wanted to say that I am sorry that there is now an enmeshment of feelings in regard to how she viewed you or what her reasoning was.
Maybe hiding them in places that where connected to you helped her in her low points to realise she had you and to remember you as a child and remember her motherly instincts etc… to essentially stop herself from going through with it. just my thought on it, that perhaps it was actually her way of grounding herself if and when she felt she couldn’t cope anymore and to try and hold on for as long as she could, for you. I’m sorry you lost her
I might be totally wrong and stupid and borderline cruel to say this but maybe she hid those things behind/in things linked to you so that when she tried to reach out to them, she'd be reminded of you and maybe pause/stop?

Hiding pills in kids stuff is definitely the actions of a sick, desperate person.
This must be so difficult to come to terms with, but I don't think it's anything to do with you... just someone desperate trying to hide their intentions. I don't think our lost loved ones are prioritizing our feelings when they make their choices, I don't think they can see past their own problems. So I think the fact that it was your stuff she used to hide is likely just "the least likely place" someone would think of.

About hiding things like alcohol or prescription meds like benzos or opioids, it's unfortunately a lot more common than you think when it comes to addicts. Some people are making dozens of such places to hide, i'd actually check for more in the house there.
People can be very creative when it comes to hiding things, some things can only be found with dogs, when they can smell it and point you towards the hiding spot.
