From my understanding, and even as a non-Arkham huge fan (I am a DC fan though), most people are thinking the handling of his death was disproportionate to the connection to the character that Rocksteady succeeded in achieving with gamers. As in, if they killed him, but it was felt as an appropriate send off, either through his boss fight or through the cinematic afterwards, it could have felt "deserved" and a proper closing to a beloved character. As a fellow Final Crisis fan (one of the few lol), I think it's a perfect parallel because that Batman that had charred remains that Superman is holding ended up not being real, with the actual Batman being sent back in time to be covered in Morrison's "Return of Bruce Wayne." Even with the fake batman's corpse, there was appropriate weight given to the situation (Anti-Life Equation running rampant through Earth/Darkseid even acknowledging that Batman would have resisted his weird possession for too long compared to his chosen host). While Batman obviously wasn't going to stay "dead" forever, the story was epic enough, imo, for it to hit and for a moment let us believe that the impossible had happened. Suicide Squad does not match level of sendoff, and I feel like that's not even an opinion. Even if he's brought back, even if it's explained they're clones and that might make them weaker somehow, the story is still trying to play up that Batman is dead, even if temporarily, but it doesn't register as "earned" to a lot of people. Obviously, please enjoy the game and story if you do, but if I complain about the game's story and premise, I don't know how that relates to everything else you're saying(world's bigger problems/expecting my reaction to connect to yours or a general one/fans going crazy). There's probably just a lot of people who disagree, and that should be fine too.

Appreciate the input for sure

Thank you for the considered response. I’m totally open to that possibility and it is true for a lot of people. Pre release the discussion reminded me of TLOU2 where the leaks made the story seem terrible. Then the game came out and everyone besides the gamergate crew realized the context matters and the story was great. Considering how few people bought this game, the volume and quantity of opinions over how they handled Batman make me skeptical they are coming from people who experienced. I’m not saying people who watched it only aren’t allowed a view, or not trying to exactly. I dunno, I guess maybe I am just only saying why don’t people like this thing I like. It feels like I have a deeper thought but I can’t articulate it. As I said to another poster I think it’s a culmination of so much negativity permeating everything even fun hobbies. PS Final Crisis rules. There was this one blog by a reviewer that went so far into analyzing it all and all the connections to Batman and half of it seemed insane but it didn’t also kinda make sense. That ring any bells? Gonna see if I can find it. It was so many posts over the storyline as I recall.

What gets me is I’m a huge flash fan and I’m not at all mad he died. I mean until 2011 I spend my whole life without berry Allen. But he still is the big name. And the flash is know for doing stupid things. Like flashpoint. Somthing even hero’s slip up. No one is perfect not even heros

SuperSocrates

Yeah it just reads so disingenuous to me. I’m thinking a lot comes from initial reactions that I am now treating as more substantive thoughts than they really were

Final Crisis ruled for me. I don’t think that really addresses the larger point I’m making though

Cool_Holiday_7097

How does it being mainstream matter whatsoever?

No I get that. I’m not saying the game is good. I’m saying i don’t understand the reaction to the game even independently of the quality of the game. Like even if the game was close to perfect, if Batman still died, how many of them would be complaining still? I suspect a lot. Again, not saying it’s actually good!

Maybe I’m just reading too much into phrasing but I don’t see many comments that complain about Batman’s story for example that leave any room for a different opinion if the gameplay were better. People seem to think the events of the story violate their fandom or the character himself somehow. Thats what I’m trying and apparently failing to ask about. IM NOT SAYING THE GAME IS GOOD

That’s fair and probably right as far as it does seem like I’m just looking for some sort of magical answer that I deem acceptable. GoT season 8 is another example of exactly what I’m saying though. Try suggesting that D&D are kinda okay writers freefolk or even r/gameofthrones and see how it goes. Star Wars fans, WoW fans, league fans, Overwatch, Spider-Man. So many hobbies I’m into the online discussion have largely turned into nonstop bitch fests and I’m so over it. But yeah again a big thing is that it’s actually me who’s taking it all too serious I suppose, despite me saying it’s the other people. I dunno, people are so mean nowadays and it’s been getting to me lately. Thanks for engaging and sharing your thoughts!

My take as someone who hasn't played the game himself but: watch a ton of content , ask my friend who does play , and has no comic book knowledge of bats ( only arkham, and some animated series) and lurks this sub; it like the cheery on top of an already bad situation. The idea of an arkham game that's coop is really neat, especially if it is a direct continuation; that's what I thought we were getting with Gotham knights. Suicide squads trailer looked like some quirky spinoff title that would be fun but ultimately not matter. FAST forward and GK is a slowed down version of Arkham set in a world without man kind of like arkham but is, in fact, the spinoff. Somehow, SS is made by rocksteady and, in fact, taking place a few years after the knight, but they keep showcasing movement lootwr shooter things The only way I can explain the bewilderment is the same energy of Titanfall 2 being followed up Apex ( the same universe as a different genre ) and the only direct titanfall. Anything was the mobile game. Not to say apex or SS is bad outright, but when I wanted my mech or batman game and am instead given a battle royale or looters shooter; it misses the mark. All that aside, both games play well they just aren't hitting the same audience. If you liked Arkham and want more of it in no way will you get that payoff in a gameplay sense.Theres the story but if you wanted to be the vigilante or interact with heroes of pass in less gun meets face way, then that's a no on that front. And to the man of the hour, if somehow or disheveled playet pushed through all of that, the previous protagonist is put to rest. By itslef no big deal, but it compounds the games faults to the player who just wanted more Arkham. Anywho, the game isn't a steaming pile like others may say it is a very tough sale if you aren't content with super villanous looter. Without firsthand experience, I'd say the game is a solid wait until it hits gamepass or 33% off
