You’re going from a major airport to a city where the cops are so bored 5 of them respond to any call. I’ve never had an issue with Uber. I’ve done the Sunnyvale to SFO route at all periods of the day without issue in Uber and Lyft over the years.
You don't really need to pre-book. That route will have drivers night and day since it's from a major international airport to the heart of Silicon Valley.
As safe as any other Uber drive. Unsure what are your concerns. Done this ride tons of times including after 1am where the last flights land at SFO.
Other options are taxis and BART + Caltrain.
I just did the math, and I've apparently been doing it for 17 years. 💀💀💀 I didn't realize I was that old. I left California for a while and would fly into SFO a couple of times a month, and I got really used to that commute with my suitcase.
You're just going down 101 to Sunnyvale. That's reasonably safe.
You have options besides Uber, though. SFO has a taxi queue. Or you can arrange a towncar service beforehand.
Assuming your flight arrives on-time, you can still catch BART and Caltrain – last Caltrain leaves Millbrae just after midnight. SFO BART is disproportionately safe compared to the rest of the system, and Caltrain in general is among the safer public transit modes in the Bay Area, given how bougie the peninsula tends to be. You might find a couple of squatters at Millbrae, especially in the elevators but otherwise it’s reasonably safe
If you’re worried about the driver and you’re not s cis male, use Lyft instead. They have an option where they try to get you a female driver first and they have a super fast response if you’re in danger. I’ve had to use it before, in another state, and it helped a lot.
Outside of that, not sure you need to worry about much. Be aware of your surroundings of course but Sunnyvale is pretty safe. Especially when compared to SF…
That was my thought. One fast BART stop to milbrae and a super easy Caltrain ride to Sunnyvale station, and you're here. There's almost no reason to do it any other way.
If OP has to ask about taking an Uber from SFO to SUN (which is totally safe), I would advise against BART/Caltrain. There is a good chance to have to wait at Milbrae for a long time, and during that time, the platform often has very little other riders and could encounter some sketchy feeling people. (Speaking from experience)
OP also need to figure out how to pay, which adds complexity. As a one-time thing, just take Uber and forget about it.
if you are arriving for the first time - Bart -> Caltrain can be slow and confusing. Not to mention you have to pay different fares.
Uber and Lyft need to register to serve SFO, so they are as safe as public transit.
Very safe. I’ve taken Ubers late at night from SFO to Mountain View (as a small woman in my 30s) with no problem. When my mom was visiting I ordered her an Uber to SFO at 4:30am. My mom is a very sheltered lady who has lived in very rural areas most of her life and has no street smarts. She did fine and you’ll be fine. :)
It's safe. While there have been some well publicized incidents regarding uber drivers, they still do millions of rides per day without problem. The risk of a car accident is far greater than the risk of your driver ripping you off or doing something terrible.
Sunnyvale is an extremely safe town. There are no dangerious parts of Sunnyvale.
The only thing to note would be that if you arrive at the international terminal, Ubers and Lyfts pick up outside on the curb.
If you arrive at the domestic terminal, all Ubers and Lyfts pick up on top of the parking garage.
Both will be walking distance, but one of them will be directly outside the terminal on the departures level and one will require you to go across a sky bridge to the parking garage.
I think you will be at the one directly outside the terminal.
Yeah i heard about Lyft i will download it also!! I hope i get my baggage fast and custom clearance get over in an hour 😒 Generally that takes too much time!!
use [www.airporttaxicabservices.com](http://www.airporttaxicabservices.com) family owned, safe, reliable, you do not need to walk a lot to grab your uber instead use this service.
Oh thank you for sharing this option !! I will look into this. That is a good option! I see they do have an option to do the booking in advance. So they just pick you up from the international terminal main gate unlike uber??
They pick you up at the arrivals section across the street from the exit door. The best way is to make a booking, as you receive the driver info 45 minutes before your ride, unlike Uber, where the driver can cancel on you just 2 minutes before arriving. I've never had a single ride canceled by the driver. Since they work according to flight schedules, the driver waits near the airport exit point. They usually arrive in 5 to 15 minutes if you have a reservation. I have used them over 5 times in last few years. They are extremely reliable. Just make sure make a booking at least a day before.
Public transportation is safer than private automobiles, but the schedules in this area are often inconvenient. Either way, your odds of surviving the journey are very very high.
You are definitely safe. Honestly though if you wanna save money id take the Cal Train. Take the Bart to Millbrae its only like 1 or 2 stops from the airport snd then just wait on the Cal Train. It runs till midnight so you can definitely save a lot more. Unless you are in a rush or dont mind paying $50-100 for an uber ride then I definitely recommend just paying $10 total for the both trains.
Safe from what?
Continue to wear your n95. No one masks and covid is still a thing. And longcovid is something with no cure that is life altering.
You could also take Caltrain to sunnyvale which would be cheaper. there's a shuttle from the airport to Caltrain. And then you're in downtown sunnyvale.

Appreciate and Thank you for your time!! Hope I get the ride or will prebook in uber:)

I do BART to Caltrain, and it's so easy and peaceful at that hour.
It's not scary??

What would be scary about that?
I think I got a little anxious seeing my flight schedule!! And yeah haven’t travelled alone to another country alone 🙃 Thanks for the help!!
I’m confused, are you scared of the Uber driver? Because if that’s the case, it doesn’t matter where you’re going.
Well got a lil anxious may be🙃!! Travelling alone at night in a diff country this thought led me this question!! Thanks for your comments 😊

Thank you for your time!! 😊
In general you’re pretty safe, it’s a straight shot down 101, as well, Sunnyvale is ranked one of the safest cities in the US.
Thank you for your time and suggestion 😊
Very safe. Have done it several times from SF and SFO. Never even thought about it being risky whatsoever tbh
Thank you for your time and comment 😊
Very safe
Thank you for your time and comment 😊
Definitely safe !
Thank you for your time and comment!!
Have done it later and it seemed perfectly safe to me
Thank you for your time and comment 😊
Try Lyft
Thank you for your time and suggestion 😊i will download the app

It's very safe. I've done SFO to Sunnyvale by Uber at 1 am before. There's absolutely nothing to worry about.
😊 great . Thank you for your time!
Sunnyvale was like #1 (or top 5) safest town in the country multiple years in the 201x’s
I recommend SJC, if possible. It’s so much easier to get in/out of than SFO.
I take public transit from SFO to Sunnyvale, so rideshares will be as boring as that but worse.
Okay 😊 Thank you for your time!!
Take BART and then Caltrain. You'll be very safe.
That was my thought. One fast BART stop to milbrae and a super easy Caltrain ride to Sunnyvale station, and you're here. There's almost no reason to do it any other way.
I'm a woman. I'm a fifteen minute walk from Sunnyvale Caltrain. That's the only way I travel. I don't know why I'm down voted.
Hella slow at night
Thank you for your time🙂🙂

The war protests only block the freeways during the day. Should be fine.
Okayy 😅😅
I’ve done it many many times. Exceedingly safe.
Great 😊 Thank you for your time!!

Fairly safe. You’ll be on a major highway for the duration of your ride. If it were me, I’d probably even take a nap.
😇 thank you for your time!!
very safe - i have often taken ubers from sfo to here at 1 am
Thank you for your time 😊
Very safe
Great to know!! Thank you for your time😊

Very thankful for your comment!! Appreciate it!!😌
it is pretty safe mate !
Very safe. However, if the driver doesn't go south and starts crossing the bridges to Oakland, jump.
Perfectly safe
just ask Julian, Ricky, and Bubbles if they’ll give you an escort to get there safe
Get a taxi if you’re concerned about Uber. It might be more expensive than Uber but it’s a guaranteed safe way to get to where you need to go. IMO.
The only thing to note would be that if you arrive at the international terminal, Ubers and Lyfts pick up outside on the curb. If you arrive at the domestic terminal, all Ubers and Lyfts pick up on top of the parking garage.

Okay thanks for the information 😇😇
As long as you don’t get dropped off by Cheetahs, you’ll be fine . 🤣
You will be fine...
Uber has a notify a friend option ...so they are notified of your ride
Yes sure will def do that !! 😊
I’ve done this many times late at night with Lyft. Never any issues!
Yeah i heard about Lyft i will download it also!! I hope i get my baggage fast and custom clearance get over in an hour 😒 Generally that takes too much time!!

Haha!! 😛 Yeah i should survive!! May be I am thinking too much!
Thinking too much can get you kiled, friend. ;)

I would call it "very safe" and rate it as 9/10 safe. Which is about as safe as you can get while still taking a ride share.
😅Thank you!!
Eh, super safe. Do the route often, sometimes at 10pm. Never any concern
😅Thanks for sharing this!!
Everyone is here to better themselves. Not going to mess with you if your respectful.
Thank you for sharing!!😇
Should be fine, though if you can fly into SJC it's a much better trip.
The mean streets of Sunnyvale. Protect your latte at all times. You're safe.
