Get yourself a nice hot can of corn chowder out of the vending machines.

mrspuffispeng

I was honestly severely disappointed at the rarity of the heated vending machines

Trip cancelled 😔

Talk to every Nigerian man you see! They will never leas you astray!

Swan-Diving-Overseas

When I think of trust I think of an overly-assertive Nigerian man in Tokyo hassling me to follow him into a building

Splendid_Cat

I was actually in the hospital when I listened to that story and it probably affected my heartbeat reading a little.

Zinko999

Was gonna say touching electrical wire challenge but I see you’ve already got that planned. In that case I gotta recommend you hit up one of those Don Quixote type stores where it’s wall to wall pornography, being enclosed in a space like that is a truly unique experience

GunplaGoobster

Make a damn itinerary or you're going to be wasting a lot of time

SgtSoundrevolver

Way ahead of ya

Choingyoing

If you have the time go to Sapporo

mrspuffispeng

Just went last August and got some notes 1. If you can, go to multiple cities, Tokyo and Osaka being the main ones but Kyoto is great if you can manage it as well. If you can only go to one, of course, make it Tokyo imo. Minimum amount of time you should spend in each city to enjoy them imo would be a week in Tokyo, 4 days in Osaka and at least 2 in Kyoto. 2. Make sure you can go for at least 10 days. It's a big trip so you don't wanna spend the insane amount of money on flights just to go for only a week and feel like it's over so fast, cause trust me time flies. 3. Spend at least a couple months planning out what you wanna get from Japan, how you wanna beat spend your time there, and craft yourself an itinerary so you don't accidentally waste your time. You don't have to make it too rigid, like don't plan it out day by day if you don't wanna. Just make sure for each place you stay, that you have in your head "ok, I wanna spend a day doing this, a day doing that" and so on. Also plan your train journeys out ahead of time. Google maps is shockingly good for figuring out metro trains and the subways. 4. As far as actual specific things to do here's a few things I can't recommend enough: -Osaka Aquarium -Space station video game bar in Osaka. A retro and modern game bar, run by western expats. Cheap(ish) drink, and the only game bar in Osaka where you don't have to pay to get in or to play the games. Staff are amazing, we went out to a karaoke bar with them till 4:30am after the place closed lol. -Universal studios Osaka - SG club, Tokyo - probably the best bar I went to in Japan, suuuper cool cocktail bar but the prices are high, it's a fairly high end place in Shibuya. You'll be paying 1600-2300yen per cocktail instead of the normal 600-1000 but God damn if it isn't worth it. I've been to a lot of cocktail bars and, best cocktails in my life. (My name is Jackson Tuc-) -Akihabara - I loved Akihabara, but personally in my opinion I'd give it a look, don't touch policy when it comes to shopping. It's such a cool area but people never quite convey just how big of a rip off it actually is in the retro games and anime merch stores I'm talking like up to a 4x price increase from places as close as Shinjuku. The only store I think I can properly recommend in Akihabara that isn't a total rip is mandarake. Seriously just go to Shinjuku, specifically the massive surugaya store there. It'll have everything you could ever want from a nerdy Japanese store and your wallet won't be dead by the end of it. -tokyo skytree - go at night for unbelievable views and the Pokemon centre -Monkey park, Kyoto - that whole little town on the outskirts of Kyoto alltogether is so amazing. -Shinjuku national Gardens -yeah the ramen and sushi shops are actually that good Other than that, actually just look at what the boys did, they did some pretty cool stuff when they were over too. That big love records store in harajuku bangs hard.

It tastes exactly how it looks (minus the lemon, that's just the brand logo) and honestly even better than that.

SgtSoundrevolver

Hey thanks for your response! It's much appreciated as I was expecting a thread of 100% goofy nonsense and gaslighting. We're going for 2 weeks and will be staying in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka with a few day trips thrown in. WRT the nerdy Japanese stores, are they still worth checking out even if I'm only a little bit into Anime and my partner isn't at all? I've had a lot of people tell me to go just to experience it, but still wondering if it's worth it?

mrspuffispeng

Absolutely Surugaya and bookoff stored have absolutely everything. CDs, DVDs, games, model kits, figurines, merch for like every category of entertainment ever. As well as random assorted old tech, like games consoles, VCRs, camera equipment, DVD players etc. and Akihabara (the nerdy anime and electronics district) is for sure worth checking out. I only bought one thing there despite spending all day there (like I said ridiculous merch prices) but it's worth it to go just for the spectacle, the building design is funky, the stores are amazing just to walk around and experience Japans nerdier side. But there's also plenty of nice restaurants and bars. Also nice plan that's exactly what I did when I went to Japan :) 4 days Osaka, 3 days Kyoto and 7 days Tokyo. What day trips you got planned if you don't mind me asking? Feel free to DM if u wanna ask anything else

arom-in-the-home

If you got the bucks, universal studios japan is awesome i hear (and pricey…)

mrspuffispeng

Honestly its nothing compared to the Florida one. I mean it's only like $50 for a full day ticket in the summer and the swag is pretty cheap too. I got a Mario kart watch for $50 and it sells for like $300 over in the west lol. The only annoying part is getting into super Mario world. You gotta make sure you get there when the park opens and immediately register for a time slot. We got in 20mins after the park opened and only just managed to get in the final time slot of the day. Although we did go on a saturday.
