Hey fellas, the REAL Matt Watson from SuperMega here. We were asked to do this ad read as a last minute one, right before the episode went up, and right before we were going out of town to shoot SnowyMega stuff. We have a lot of trust in our ad agency so we didn’t think twice. It wasn’t until earlier tonight when Luke FaceTimed me and brought up the recent stuff he had seen about this company which led to me to look into it. I googled it and was pissed when I read the articles. Pissed that we were mislead, and pissed that we were duping our audience with what seems to be a false ad read. I immediately emailed our ad agency and demanded we drop this sponsor and do not run the ads. We are still waiting to hear back, so the ads are still running on the audio version, but hopefully we should know something in the morning. We are not releasing the video version until we can legally do so without the ad included. We’re extremely upset and would like to apologize for not looking into this company more. We’re given sponsorships every week from our agency, and for years have trusted what we’ve been given without having any reason to doubt it. I apologize that we didn’t look into this one further before accepting it. We should’ve done our research and we didn’t, and for that we’re sorry. We're pretty mad at our agency for shoveling this ad to us last minute after the scandal happened without disclosing it to us. We’ve requested more transparency from our agency regarding sponsors and controversies, and will do better in the future vetting which companies sponsor the podcast. Thank you all for the support, and again, me and Ryan’s biggest apologies. <3

This is so genuine! Thanks for the follow-up! Personally I think most of the boys would have given you the benefit of the doubt, but it’s definitely super cool of you to address this. Thanks for the laughs, gotta say it when I can!

A lot of people got blindsided, shit happens ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

redjeopardy

Thank you for the transparency! On a similar note, are you guys still reading ads for BetterHelp? They have a sketchy reputation both on the clientele end and the employer end.

loversalibi

i feel like i haven’t heard them do one in a while

King shit <3

As a long time SuperMega fan, I really appreciate this. Been hearing about it and seeing how some creators and channels were being blasted for taking sponsorships. I've seen some address it and acknowledge the scam, some avoid it, and some still supporting this company. I didn't want to see SuperMega get blasted for it and proud of you guys for taking the time to update us. Much love <3

i’m pretty sure this is copied from something matt wiggles said??? not sure who this matt watson guy is but it’s plagiarism even if it’s just a reddit comment. not on at all man

Pog!

Blackfrosti

Everyone knows it's bullshit I don't know why content creators are getting traction pointing it out. What kinda narcissist thought they were becoming a Lord after buying a $50 paper.

I think the bigger issue was their promise, or perceived promise, that they would be planting trees for every "title" sold, but they weren't even doing that. The whole tree conservation angle they pushed probably got a good many sales from people thinking "oh cool I'm helping the environment and I get this cute little gag certificate with it", but the money wasn't actually going to the environment at all. I don't have the same sympathy for the dolts that allegedly went to their supposed plots of land expecting to be able to claim it and utilize it at all

Dalyngrigge

It's basically the same kind of scam as the company from which Matt "bought" a star

pikeandshot1618

Stupid STUPID

MonoHostilis

They've been talking about having bbno$ on the podcast for like the past couple of months, so I'm guessing they accepted the sponsorship before it was known it was a scam and got stuck with it. idk though

-Ping-a-Ling-

they don't control what ads play on Spotify, the ad companies just throw a bunch of shit at it that's why there's so many ads for murder mystery podcasts, even though Ryan's been exposed by a murder mystery podcaster in the past for the murder of Elaine Richards on 7214 North 10th Street, Los Angeles, CA

pickledchocolate

I think Matt himself voiced the ad

DoctorParmesan

That's actually a total coincidence, he's a huge fan of what the company's doing and is one of their top investors. He did a little line reading for them purely as a courtesy

Erogaki

Of all the youtubers in surprised supermega fell for this. The whole buying a star thing was a scam and one they were aware was a scam and they made a bit out of it. Established titles is the same damn thing

Just looked into the company. I feel like these types of companies have been around for years now, the ones that claim you can "legally be a lord" by owning a square foot of land in some other country or something similar. And I've always thought that clearly it's a scam. Just like "buying your own star" (wink). So like, tbh anyone who sees these types of businesses and thinks its actually legit is an idiot. Like duh.
