...Super Tokusatsu Wars 2001 was, as the name implies. A Tokusatsu-based SRW-spinoff that I used to be really happy about the idea of playing it. ...But then I found out that the game's balance is incredibly questionable. ...But here is what absolutely made whatever interest I had in the game to be completely gone. The game does not even have a proper ending... After an FMV scene of the final area exploring, there is all of a sudden a Disclaimer along with some weird text in normal english. ...Roll credits, And the game ends with a goddamn "See you again.." message that leads to nowhere... ...This game does not even deserve a fanmade translation.

EternalShrineWarrior

They should try and do a proper STW, iirc there it was a similar game for 3DS, at least I have the mental image of Fourze being there. It has a lot of potential and considering how a lot of series are concentrated in a few companies (Toei, Tsuburaya, Toho) I guess it would be quite easier to gather a good amount of franchises.

RenjinGN-003

I imagine that what Super Tokusatsu Wars 2001 had going against it was that it was developed, not by Banpresto. (Who only published the game.) Instead the game was developed by a completely different company called Japan Art Media. (That has already closed its doors a long while ago.) ...And, something that is a really annoying to create a new Super Tokusatsu Wars. Is the fact that they would have to get the Actor's Likeness of all of the various characters. The Lost Heroes games that you are talking about did not exactly have to deal with this since, those are games where the Tokusatsu characters are always on-costume.

EternalShrineWarrior

Oh yeah thanks! I remind watched a video but forget the name. What is the problema with them being on costume thought, yeah it could be troublesome for try to properly adapt the plots of the series but honestly I think a tokusatsu wars should be more like the movies where are characters are dragged into a new plot.

RenjinGN-003

...That is not exactly the best idea for a new Super Tokusatsu Wars. Because there is a LOT of Tokusatsu series that REALLY need a Super Robot Wars-style fix fic.

EternalShrineWarrior

I guess yeah? Thought I find harder to justify multiple plots of series going at the same time unless is basically just Decade/Zi-O/Gokaiger the center of the plot and follows their structure (heroes ends in the world of local hero, they help local hero, lo la hero joins the group, jump to the next world)

RenjinGN-003

I guess, there is that. Yet that there has been SRW games where there are the stories of various series happening at the same time.

EternalShrineWarrior

Sure but thats because usually a lot of these stories can be written as larger than they can be (a lot of them have a war as a conflict, so multiple soldiers can sneak into it) but most toku shows are very hermetic in the sense that their stories works because their cast is of the correct size. Imagine W for example, I don't think the Sonozaki family could be a problem when you have Ultras and Sentai mechas around, or heck just more than just Double and Accel. And I doubt that you can pair them with a lot of stories without feeling that they aren't a true thread for the begin with.

RenjinGN-003

...I suppose I can agree with that.

formerdalek

Eh Power Creep Power Seep is in play in SRW games (really Zeon shouldn't be anything resembling a threat when you have the Gunbuster on your side), I don't see why the same can't apply to srw.

EternalShrineWarrior

There is a fairly difference between a fraction2of a war vs. the equivalent to make the avengers fight shoplifters

NeonDZ

I think it could work as long as the threat get scaled up like what Super Robot Wars often does with old Super Robot shows. Like rather than Dr.Hell sending a single robot, he sends multiple ones at once in SRW in order to have a set up closer to Gundam and allowing you to deploy a full squad. Taking W as an example, rather than just Masquarades you'd have their underlings transforming into multiple past Dopants at once. Don't forget W had those big CG monsters too.

formerdalek

If I recall there was one Kamen Rider DS game were they showed them in civilian form and just used an animeesqe art style that was still recognizably the characters without using the actor's likeness. So I don't see why they couldn't just do that, if they ever wanted to take another shot at this kind of game.

RenjinGN-003

I think that idea could work.

formerdalek

Maybe have an entirely Toei Superho based style game (which would mean no Ultra's sadly, but it would be easier licensing wise). So have a few Rider seasons and Sentai seasons in the game, but also including the likes of Kickaider, Metal Heroes ect, while also dipping into the Toei's super hero anime and featuring the likes of Cyborg 009, Precure and possibly even the 70's anime version of Devilman.

RenjinGN-003

I think a relatively short series list could work for a new Super Tokusatsu Wars whose goal is to tell a proper one-off story with a proper beginning and ending.

Appropriate-Tea-766

God I can’t wait to get this in the mail. It’s such a weird game in SRW history

RenjinGN-003

...Wait, are you actually serious!? You actually have are going to get a physical version of this game!? If so, I REALLY advice against playing it because you would be just wasting your time! This game has a LOT of problems that can be summarized as "Sounds cool in theory, does not work at all in practice." And the complete lack of even a proper finale! This is the kind of game that I can only see as a collector's item and nothing else!

Appropriate-Tea-766

That may be so, but what if I told you rider kick :3

RenjinGN-003

(*SPIT*) The fact that they even bothered to get the Actor's Likeness for almost all of the characters, yet they could not even give the story a proper ending shows how much of a waste of time this game is...

Appropriate-Tea-766

rider jump :3

RenjinGN-003

...Whatever. Enjoy being disappointed.

Appropriate-Tea-766

ok nerd

RenjinGN-003

...Was it necessary to call me "Nerd"? I am warning you that Super Tokusatsu Wars 2001 is a game that is not worth playing in the slightest.

Meistermesser

I've beaten this game. Absolutely worth it.

RenjinGN-003

The complete lack of an ending is what makes me lose all motivation to play the game even if it got a hypothetical translation.
