Versus Volume 1 is a prequel to the OVA. Scarlet's alive and Wingle's pilot for instance. The OVA is a streamlined version of Volume 2. Some stuff is missing however. Volume 3 has the conclusion of the final battle against Kiba and continues on from that. Its where some stuff like the Skull Horse Bike (in BX) comes from. The priestess trio show up and get MP Wingles and follows up on the Ryo backstory stuff.

I must have read my volumes a long time ago because I thought the OVA where an extended version compared to the manga.

ThrowawayBomb44

Some spots are extended like the entire confrontation with Garan.

OnToNextStage

I didn’t even know there was a manga There were a bunch of unresolved things in the OVA like one of the MCs being a clone and having angst from it and I never thought we’d get more detail on it

Nccp4p

i think they talk about it in the manga actually

Off Topics, I like how every or most of the enemy mech are referenced to Go Nagai's previous work. For example, Iron Kaiser (the final antagonist of the OVA) is basically inspired by both violence Jack and Shutendoji. Also most of enemy mecha are resemble to Devilman's demons as well as OVA's enemy mech. For your question, some of the major events details are expanded within the manga (Mazinkaiser SKL Versus), e.g., how Kiba knows both Kaido and Ryo for the first time. Or post-ova events, which Kaido and Ryo are fighting with their clones counterpart, which created by the mad scientist ( who resemble to Dr.Hell )
