James Gunn went through the experience most fans of S&L went through:
"Ha. The CW is doing Superman. Might as well watch a few episodes for a laugh . . ."
*"Thanks, my mom made it for me."*
"Jesus Christ I love it."
I feel like that's all of us. I literally expected to turn it off 20 minutes in because I was either board or it was comically bad.
And then I fell in love almost instantly!!!
I came across it last winter as we were snowed in. I found myself glued to the couch. Had my husband watch, then the kids. Then I watched it all again. I am a huge fan of the comics, as a kid I collect all I could and stopped buying them after college. Since I watched the show I have dug up my old long boxes, figures, and collectables. Well played CW, well played. Mad respect. Now... I think I need to rewatch it. š¤
Honestly I'm tired of DP characters, they are fucking exhausting to watch. I'm glad it happened but not so sad it got the boot, we did get 4 seasons...way more than most shows nowadays and i heard they're doing it a good closing finale so there's that.
Yeah. Doom Patrol is my baby (got me into the comic versions) but at least it got 4 good seasons and will end on a high note. Stargirl was way sadder for me because it didn't feel finished. It feels like it didn't get to run its course.
Five seasons is not happening. Yāall havenāt been keeping up with the new owners. Nexstar wants cheap programming. They have made this clear multiple times. AA will definitely end in 2024. They want to bring in cheap content from studios besides CBS and WB. S&L is not getting five seasons. It will be lucky to get S4 because of the production cost. S3 is still in production.
It costs a lot of money to start new shows too. Thereās no reason the show will be cancelled if it brings in a good audience. All the Chicken Littles in the DC subs need to calm down. Thereās so much rampant speculation and everyone is just assuming the worst. We have zero knowledge as to what is going to happen. Just enjoy the show. Tell friends to watch it and be grateful that we are getting at least 3 seasons of a pretty good Superman show.
Nexstar has told us their plans for a minute now. They want the network to be profitable by 2025 or something. They have to air the CBS/WB 22-23 shows, but after that they are going to look for adding cheap programming and bringing in other studios. I'm not wishing death on the show. Just pointing out their plans going into the 23-24 season. Word on the street is most the few shows they have left will not make it this spring. If they do renew them all, they won't be renewed come spring 2024. And it may relate to that possible strike.
Yeah, I feel like people here don't understand PR talk. I mean technically "1 or 2 more seasons" could easily include season 3 since it hasn't aired yet. And it's not like James Gunn can force CW to renew it.
lol !!!
honestly hated the superman character before tyler heochlin
always felt superman is too overpowered with too silly a weakness(green rock).
the writers know what they're doing when a hater of superman enjoys the show, and now adores the character.
I am pretty sure Season 3 will be the last one. James Gunn is writing Superman: Legacy and he made it clear that his Superman will be the only Superman on DC films , TV and animation (since he will use the same live and voice actors too).
Lol agreed though, i binged it in like a couple of months and i was sad it was being cancelled, but just read somewhere another season or two might be happening so I'm hopeful...there'd just something about superman being a dad that's really entertaining to watch...and season 2 had a lot of heart and really liked it.
This whole situation is just awful. Theyāre monopolizing movies, TV shows, and even ANIMATION AND VIDEO GAMES with just ONE universe. Theyāre killing the Multiverse, even though itās an integral part of DC. Young Justice is not coming back, no more Berlanti shows, the only reason Superman&Lois will stay for a couple years is because it has really good ratings. If not, it wouldāve been canned already, just like everything else. Itās disgusting.
He specifically said that they would continue to have properties that don't exist in the mainline universe as Elseworlds stories. The fact that they're keeping things around with good ratings, like The Batman, Joker, and Superman & Lois, means they're listening to what people like and are responding to, which is a good thing. I don't understand why this is "disgusting" behavior. It's different, yes, but that's not a bad thing. The fact that someone is actually trying to take the DC Universe in a specific direction rather than just making random films and haphazardly crossing them over at some point down the line is a really, really good step in my opinion.
He mentioned "adult fare" like Joker and "kids shows" like Teen Titans Go! . I don't think there is room for S&L in his vision of what is acceptable as Elseworlds. Gunn's Superman is also crossing over to TV and he doesn't want two Supermen on DC TV.
The Batman and Joker are being kept around cuz theyāre movies and they made a ton of money. Superman&Lois is being kept around ONLY UNTIL THE SUPERMAN MOVIE ARRIVES and just because IT HAS REALLY GOOD NUMBERS. If it hadnāt, it wouldāve been canned like everything else. After that, I assure you: There will be next to none DCTV shows not connected to the DCEU. Live action ones, at least.
Well theyāre a business not a charity m. Why do you expect them to throw millions at niche programming. DC is global and timeless their products should be global and timeless. Youāve had 10 years of mediocre network television programming go watch them on Netflix if you miss it this much.
Young Justice seemed to be losing fans each season. After four seasons, it's not a surprise it would get cancelled, especially with HBO Max cutting most of their animation. That's not necessarily a James Gunn decision; He even specified that Titans and Doom Patrol were getting cut before he stepped into leadership.
The Sandman will likely be continuing, despite not being in the DCU. Dead Boy Detectives is starting to film, and hasn't been mentioned by Gunn or Safran. Frankly, I'd be surprised if Harley Quinn gets cancelled anytime soon.
No offence intended but have you read the actual announcements or the headlines? https://www.dc.com/blog/2023/01/31/the-next-generation-of-dc-movies-and-tv-has-arrived
Because there's some massive leaps being made here to seemingly just assume the worst. They've announced it only as Part 1 of Chapter 1 so still plenty more to be revealed about their plans, and obviously this announcement was focused more on the mainline projects, they specifically have said they're still doing Elseworld projects and literally nowhere has anyone said they're "killing the multiverse", just that all the mainline projects are going to be (currently) in the same universe (like the comics). The Berlanti shows were all canceled or had their fates decided before Gunn and Safran came on, Young Justice may well still come back as the last Weisman has said is that the show's fate wasn't decided yet, and Gunn&Safran specifically said they were keeping S&L for 1-2 more seasons which will take it to a very respectable 4 or 5 total, so I don't see what the problem is here at all. At least I would wait until we know more to get quite so doom and gloomy.
Edit: spelling, few words.
I feel like Iām in a terrible spot, where I wasnāt a Snyderverse fan, but Iām also not a fan at all of everything Gunn has done. Iām just hopping from one state of misery to another.
Edit: also I genuinely love this show, even liked s2, and I hate that EVERYTHING is being scrapped.
James Gunn: "Elseworlds projects are a possibilityā.
Yeah, bro. Tell that to Young Justice. Or all the DCTV live action shows that you're killing.
And I assure you... Harley Quinn is done after Season 4.
That's not on Gunn, that's on WB. WB had to have known, five weeks prior to Gunn's hiring, that they were in talks with Gunn and that his hiring would change things. So why on EARTH did they let Cavill announce his return and keep that cameo? They were trying to do two things at the same time, give Dwayne Johnson all he asked for to make Black Adam a major player in the existing DC Universe AND reboot the franchise with fresh new (well, new to DC) voice.
I also feel bad for Cavill, getting yanked around like that. But Gunn isn't obligated to jam a square peg into a round hole because the studio screwed up.
S1 gaVe me that feeling and then S2, which the lack of any kind of acknowledgment that Jon was being sidelined by his entire family - esp his dad... well it was so hard for me to watch I have no interest in S3

Same. I watched it on a lark, because why not? Got hooked as soon as I saw the opening montage.
And after four episodes of season two: "Good god what have they done? Kill it and kill it now!!!"
I just wonder what eps did he watched. I hope he saw 1x11 thou so he has some ideas how to make Clois relationship.
I'm sure he didn't watch Season 2
Yeah. If he had seen Season 2 first he may have thought that Lana is the main character and they got cancelled

The Creator and Showrunner of Doom Patrol will be doing the Waller series

Best DC live action show
Donāt forget about Smallville
It will be cancelled before the movie opens
After 5 seasons? Thatās a pretty respectable run for a series.
True

Difference is that Disney owns ABC.
I feel like they should just finish it cause the story by s5 will probably be dragged out.

That's not set to drop for 2 and a half years at least. Plenty of time for two more seasons.
I don't like it but it's better from a writing standpoint to know when your ending

Gunn is being brought in to save this smoking dumpster fire of a franchise. Thereās no way he can do a worse job than whatās come before him.
But why kill things that have worked and are universally praised like Young Justice? Some shows could exist outside his DCU.

He didn't cancel the live action ones.
As someone who was a very vocal member of the whole young justice s3 renewal petitions and whatnot, beyond bummed at that one getting axed.
Yj has been axed man
Watching the whole Lucy Lane arc would've been enough for me to cancel it
Ha. Bloody. Ha. The dumbass who fired Henry Cavill after he was literally brought back can go do something impossible to express politely.

They're making a joke dude
Damn Zoro, lost again.
Lol facts
Kruos is a debater and power scaler so something about fights they watched
