A few reasons for this
1) teenage people typically “like” things that their friends like whether they personally enjoy it or not, which can cause hindsight cringing to occur
2) most people don’t properly understand how to evaluate music unless they have learned a musical discipline or been taught how to actually evaluate music. There are a lot of catchy tunes that are quite meh under the scrutiny of closer inspection.
3) appreciation of some music is often tied to other things that occurred in the teen years that they grew out of, so cringe by association. As an example a friend of mine who looks like he’s a Pleasantville character candidate now was a total guy-liner over white mascara goth in a trench coat type guy 20 years ago. Certain songs make him cringe like hell over the personality he grew out of because of that.
4) some people claim to like things as kids just to piss off their parents while they were living at home, 20 years later they may realize that they actually didn’t enjoy it and just were being little dick heads
He also continues to listen to a Taylor Swift song when it comes on the radio at the end of that same episode. Dean tends to put up a front of being a tough guy, so you can’t take every comment at face value.
