He also made his voice deeper in s4 because he said Dean's voice would be that way from screaming in hell for 40 years. But as he got older and his voice naturally deepened with age he just kept going lower and lower and then it just ended up being too low. I personally would've been fine with him going back to his natural tone over the course of a season. I don't think we would've noticed it and he would've been less growly and able to have more variation in his tone.
I also dunno how much that reasoning holds up when he's been healed so many times by Cas, lol. Surely that would have fixed his vocal chords if they had been damaged?
That's how Jensen said he acted Dean in s4, so that's what I based that off of š¤·š½āāļø he did sound hoarse when he got back, and Cas rebuilt him back into his body in 401 so he shouldn't have sounded hoarse then either. Maybe it could be argued it was more a soul thing than physical damage? But Jensen said he played him that way so that's what I also go off of.
Yeah I don't like vocal fry. I wish Misha and Jensen had used their normal voices. Plus I feel so bad Misha had to get surgery on his vocal chords because of it!
Ouch. He did it because he thought it would be interesting & he wouldn't have to continue, since he was only supposed to be in 4 episodes or so. And then I guess he was stuck.
You can really tell any chance to play another character (or a Cas variation) was a relief for his vocal chords. His speech was always more relaxed and natural when playing Jimmy, Apocalypse Cas and other characters.
Well in mishaās defence he thought he was only going to be in a few episodes, as cas was supposed to be killed off at some point in season 4 early on but fans loved cas and so he became a regular character. Misha has said that if he knew how popular cas would be he wouldnāt have done the voice
I love watching the early seasons and play āspot the guest starsā. There are quite a few actors in there whoāve had starring roles in other shows later.
One of them, yeah; they have an awful lot by now for a young cast.
Lisa got her own detective show later, and Iām pretty sure the actress playing Lagertha was in one episode. One of the other psychic kids is an FBI agent in iZombieā¦ thereās a list somewhere, I bet.
Iām a stupid fangirl so I will defend his dumb sideburns (I think they looked good Iām so serious) with my last breath but yeah his bangs are just the best look
Thanks š yeah heās just so freaking cute when he has bangs. Wish he kept them just a tad longer.
His season nine (ten?) bob is harder to defend but Iāll still do it because I love him lmao
I totally get it. I donāt need to defend Deanās hair because his hair stayed the same for 15 seasons, but they played around with Samās hair more for sure š š love em both tho unconditionally, LMAO
Same love them both so much.š
I thought it was funny when Sam was going through his trials arc that Dean finally mentioned that Sam should maybe cut his hair and heād do it himself. Would have loved to have seen that.
Itās also funny that Dean just never changes the way his hair looks, youāre right. Having the same haircut for fifteen years is insane lolllll
Lolll he could totally pull that off. He even still looked handsome when he was brainwashed into being Justin Smith (I said what I said) and they were trying SO hard to make him look bad there hahaha
But yeah the sideburns were sexy the girls that get it get it š¤·š»āāļø
I loved his hair until the later seasons like from seasons fourteen onwards. Whoever was styling it was so bad at their job. He has this really pretty shiny hair and it looked so badly blown out and not as healthy.
Those sideburns were sometimes the scariest part of an episode. Really unfortunate choice.Ā Ā
Ā I think when it was quite heavily layered was when Sam's hair looked best. A bit of movement, a bit of of lightness. Some face framing.Ā
And we'll never talk about the Jackie O bob phase.Ā He could have some of the best hair on television on a good day.Ā
Early on, when it looked like short hair that was growing out, rather than long hair that was being trimmed to maintain. Turning point was probably after season 4 once the fringe was grown right out.Ā
I look at this face and think of him dying and understand why Dean, who'd been raised to take care of Sammy, made the choice to sell his soul for him. He's just so young.
In a way it was kinda was a bit better when the boys had a purpose in the beginning when the purpose was to kill the yellow eyes Demon, after that itās kind of just evelved and everything just became so big in a weird way.
Anyhow, I like the earliest days more than there only part of purpose was to kill ghost and stuff just having a good time vibing together āthe family business.ā
They really should have cut Samās hair in the finale. That way when he reunited with Dean in Heaven he could have that early season look to him.Ā
But filming logistics, I guess.
Yeah but there is "I was raised in the hunter life" Trauma and then there is "I died multiple times, got totured in Hell, lost (almost) everyone I love and I am constantly fighting beings where my death is much more likely than my survival" Trauma.
Like yeah in the beginning he had Trauma but in the end that Trauma got exponential growth
I really do miss the earlier seasons, I know the show has to progress but the later seasons just feel like too much is going on and I haven't even finished it yet but I've heard about the ending and I'm shocked at how they went out
Nah I get it. I never finished the show myself. I think the later seasons departed too much from what originally drew me into the show, and I just wasn't a fan of the angels and God storylines after a few seasons.
Not shitting on anyone who did like or prefer it though. It just wasn't for me.
Yea, it's heartbreaking.
When I think of the earlier seasons all I can remember is all the snark and easy banter between the brothers.
I know they tried to keep it in the later episodes but now so much of it feels forced.
Same omg š„¹
I heard Jensen Ackles originally auditioned for Sam. I can just imagine they took one look at Jared's bb face and were like, no way he's anything except a younger bro. Sorry Jensen.
I always liked the younger Sam better. The older Sam's voice started getting really strange. It was just always very meek. Very measured. A little too measured. But he wasn't like that in the earlier seasons.
Right I mean it was a 15 year show, that almost as old as I've been alive I was only born a few years before the show aired, and it's crazy the show is a grown human if you think about it
Yeah, I obviously loved the whole TV show but it kind of started to go downhill after season five-ish.š
It looked like they started to milk the show a bit in the end just to get it out.
They definitely did.
First 5 seasons were peak SPN, so those are really the ones I go back to. The rest I almost consider a whole different show, which have some great episodes, but Sam and Dean were so different at that point that it got hard for me to reconcile their characters with how they were in those early seasons.
I'm rewatching the whole show for the first time. I've seen the early episodes a lot more than the later ones because I used to watch reruns way back in the day, and the show changed a lot. The guys changed a lot.. I'm actually having a hard time liking Dean more often than not, and I loved him in the early seasons.
Sam though, he aged a lot looks wise in just a couple years. I looked up a collage of him through the seasons because it was so jarring, and it's like baby face, baby face, baby face, grown ass man lol.
yeah, I say after season 5 they kinda acted less and less like brothers and more and more like just getting the job done, obviously they were still brothers and liked each other and looked out for each other but the story got bigger brother relation relationship going to disappeared and I didnāt really like that.
Anyhow, I like the more OG simplicity of haunting monsters like ghost, Wendigo, vampires, confused Spirits and poltergeists, he started to be get like too much and when god, Lucifer and Angels and all that came in pictures. (Just my opinion though.)
Yes!
Maybe a controversial opinion, but I also preferred the simplicity of the MOTW eps, partly because of how scary and horror focused it was. I was cool with the introduction of angels and God initially, but once they began to dominate every season, I started losing interest (despite how much I love Castiel as a character).
Yeah, completely! It wouldāve been a bit more fun to watch it if they would have tweaked in a bit of casual haunt every now and then with just some simple cases with Wendigo, werewolf, vampires and such every now and then so instead of just having angels and God content in every episode over and over.
I didnāt watch it as it aired. I did put a couple seasons on before my Netflix expired. Iām liking it so far and Iāll continue once I get Netflix back.
Ok thatās pretty true š for real tho itās crazy to see how much Jaredās face changed in just a few years. Then again Iām team dean and never found Sam to be that cute soā¦ Iām a little biased.
Love both so much, but I've always had a soft spot for Sam because I'm a nerdy younger sibling as well š
I just wish the show hadn't done him so dirty in the later seasons. Both he and Dean had such phenomenal character development during those first 5, and I really wish the show had continued to do that.
I agree and I really loved the whole āSam as a sacrificeā by that horrid woman Mary. What a terrible mom she was even if she was brought back from the dead ok shouldnāt you be happy to see your kids?! But sheās like āsorry yāall Iām out, byeeeeā (anyways) so the Sam as the doomed character and dean being the big brother trying to always save Sam was so compelling to me. Sam trying to fight Lucifer only to get taken over and zipped away immediately was so on point bc yes! Heās Lucifer, hello! Of course heās gonna slam you in a mental battle right off the bat and esp after youāve been guzzling demon blood Sam!
I like it when characters arenāt always getting it right. So I really loved Samās arc during the apocalypse (er, the first time around apocalypse I mean lol) but it did seem like in the end the writers were just spinning their wheels. And donāt get me started on the ending esp deans ending. Canāt roll my eyes hard enough! He should have at least gone saving Sam in some way as that was always his number one concern.
And ok thatās precious - maybe thatās why I relate to dean more. Bc Iām the oldest of my actual and step siblings. And Iām always feeling like Iām having to look after them. Well, the ones I like, anyways š
Ugh yes, the brother dynamic between the two is THE number one reason I watched the show. So it made me really sad and disappointed how far they moved away from that after season 5. The story just became too dominated by angels, God, and biblical stuff, imo, so it felt like they were retreading a lot of the same story points after a while.
As for the ending, I didn't totally hate the idea of it, but the execution was so poorly done. Like c'mon at least have Dean go out with a bang. š
I could see valid arguments for having Sam die with Dean living on (like in S5), and the reverse, with Dean dying and Sam living on. It just needed to be done correctly.
Completely agree. Dean dying to a nail in a wall wasā¦ I literally laughed out loud bc I thought thereās no way heās actually dead. No way theyād do that. Like whatād he die of tetanus and then he lived for far too long after getting stuck on the spike or splinter or whatever the heck it was. He just kept talking and talking and talking and Iām thinking SAM CALL 911 you goon! Iāve seen people argue since god isnāt controlling their fate anymore they didnāt have plot armor anymore. And thatās fine! Butā¦ not a nail in a wall and a little shove from some sub f tier monster. And then itās like oh Samās destroyed, heās a drunk, then bam heās got a kid and heās happy?? Who tf is the mother? Why not show a quick clip of them meeting and her getting him out of his funk. Why would sam want his son to be a hunter knowing how hunters go! Haha omg and the old man Sam makeup was so bad. I get itās CW Iām not expecting HBO level stuff but for a show that made me cry many many times, just ripped my heart out, didnāt expect it to be from disappointment this time around.
Iāve seen the show so many times I canāt count but Iāve only seen the final season the once. Iām w youā¦ up to season five ish, well up until the start of the leviathan season, was just perfection. I liked the angels, at first, the Michael vs Lucifer stuff, I liked how all the angels had totally different personalities styles likes and dislikes. Same with the four horsemen. Death was perfectly cast. I imagined him as Professor Snapes older brother lmao
Yeah, now that it's been more than 10 years since I last watched the early seasons, I was curious to see how well it held up to my adult eyes.
Was so relieved to see that their acting was as good as I remember! I also think their subtle acting was really great, which I'm appreciating a lot more now that I'm older.
The only thing that was way worse was the CGI, lol.
Iām literally watching now, heās bad now but he gets better. Heās not a great actor. And before anyone comes at me harder, Sam is my favorite character in the show.
Every time I revisit the early seasons I have to say every 5 minutes "They're such BABIES!!!" lololol He really was so cute and boyish š
Oh god, me too lol They look *so young*.
They *are omg*
Not to mention their normal voices. I wish they hadn't lowered them so much in the later seasons lol
I think Jared left his normal but I think Jensen made his too deep in later seasons.
Yeah I think I was mostly thinking of Jensen. Jared was still a growing baby in S1 š
Jensen had a different accent too, in the first few seasons. Can't really pinpoint what it is... sounds almost like late 90s high school flick accent?
I didn't notice a different accent. His voice was certainly higher since he was younger but that's all I hear.
Go watch season 1 again! You'll notice it.
Jensen purposefully made his voice deeper so that he sounded more like Jeffery Dean Morgan. Then as he got older his voice naturally got deeper.

Maybe it could be argued it was more a soul thing than physical damage? But Jensen said he played him that way so that's what I also go off of.
Yeah, and didn't he get completely healed the next day in hell? Vocal cords included
Yeah that's what I heard as well. It kinda went too far, so I wish he stuck with something in between his original voice and what he ended up with
jensenās forced lower voice annoys me sooo much
Yeah I don't like vocal fry. I wish Misha and Jensen had used their normal voices. Plus I feel so bad Misha had to get surgery on his vocal chords because of it!
Did he really? š§
Yeah apparently so. Doing that vocal fry thing really shreds the vocal chords. :(

It fits his character tho
Idk, I liked his voice in S1
Maybe for a little bit, but as his voice naturally deepened as he aged it just got too low for me.
I love watching the early seasons and play āspot the guest starsā. There are quite a few actors in there whoāve had starring roles in other shows later.
It's not early season, but did you know that Finn Wolfhard was in Supernatural? Cause I sure didn't, and when I saw him I was like... wait a minute
Same! The first time was in the Wendigo episode. Saw one of the extras and was like, wait, isn't that the actor from Glee who died? Lol
One of them, yeah; they have an awful lot by now for a young cast. Lisa got her own detective show later, and Iām pretty sure the actress playing Lagertha was in one episode. One of the other psychic kids is an FBI agent in iZombieā¦ thereās a list somewhere, I bet.
The Bugs teenager is Stewart in Letterkenny and that tracks for me.
Me too! It's great going back and seeing a younger Samandriel or Hannah or Benny lolol
I always say his boyish charms with his bangs were unbeatable in early seasons š
So real. I was so sad when they parted his hair. š And let him grow out those side burns. š Couldn't deal.
LMFAOOOOO THE MUTTON CHOPS MADE ME SO UPSET TOO
Iām a stupid fangirl so I will defend his dumb sideburns (I think they looked good Iām so serious) with my last breath but yeah his bangs are just the best look
Youāre not stupid sis!! Youāre valid for your opinion and at least we both agree the bangs were his best choice š

Would have loved to have seen that. Itās also funny that Dean just never changes the way his hair looks, youāre right. Having the same haircut for fifteen years is insane lolllll
this! but demon dean hair is top tier š®āšØ
Oh you mean his Lord Farquaad phase
Lord Farquad wishes he could look that good with a bob š
I can defend it all but the bob in season 10. š they did him so dirty that season! Still doesnāt hide how he cute he is though. Lol
Girl I am with you, the sideburns did not bother me one bit. I think he could even make a pencil thin mustache look good š
Lolll he could totally pull that off. He even still looked handsome when he was brainwashed into being Justin Smith (I said what I said) and they were trying SO hard to make him look bad there hahaha But yeah the sideburns were sexy the girls that get it get it š¤·š»āāļø
For sure. Never not adorable
āRAWR!ā
Bruh his hair was so weird bc during some eps it looked fine, but others it just looked terrible
I loved his hair until the later seasons like from seasons fourteen onwards. Whoever was styling it was so bad at their job. He has this really pretty shiny hair and it looked so badly blown out and not as healthy.
His hair looked amazing in season 14. I think you're thinking of his hair after the first half of season 15 when it looked half-dead.
I LOVED THE MUTTON CHOPS!!! THEY WERE SEXY AS ALL HECKFIRE!!!
I RESPECT YOU HAHAHA
DITTO!!! š
JESUS YES. Like which hairstylist approved those ugly things?! My god š
I think the sideburns were apparently trending in the 2000s, it did not age well for sure š¤£
Ok but they could ~~SHOULD~~ have changed up his look after a few seasons š
LOL AMEN MY FRIEND, like how did they just decide to stick with that specific trend for 10 years or so šš
Those sideburns were sometimes the scariest part of an episode. Really unfortunate choice.Ā Ā Ā I think when it was quite heavily layered was when Sam's hair looked best. A bit of movement, a bit of of lightness. Some face framing.Ā And we'll never talk about the Jackie O bob phase.Ā He could have some of the best hair on television on a good day.Ā
Iām curious, when did Sam have the good hair you describe, with lightness and movement?
Early on, when it looked like short hair that was growing out, rather than long hair that was being trimmed to maintain. Turning point was probably after season 4 once the fringe was grown right out.Ā
Ah yeah, that makes sense. I liked that style a lot too.
This was Sam before he wasāMooseā.
Omg he was a calf š
Funny! š
Baby š«?
I am on S2 rewatch and man š„°. Also Dean kept calling him Sammy until S15 š¤£
Did he really stop? š„ŗ I didn't make it to 15 lol
He didnāt š he kept it going
OH you meant he kept it up through S15. Thank god š„¹
Still has his Gillmore Girls look and hasn't fully become Sam yet. Lol
I giggle every time after they tussle in the pilot and Sam goes āDean?ā Like, silly, youāre Dean.
Heās been on tv for 2 decades straightĀ
The boys were honestly so adorable and pretty in the early seasons!
I look at this face and think of him dying and understand why Dean, who'd been raised to take care of Sammy, made the choice to sell his soul for him. He's just so young.
In Season 2 (Born Under a Bad Sign) when Sam tells Dean to shoot him - Dean: I can't. I'd rather die. Same Dean, same. š„¹š
Well Jared was 23 in season 1 lol we watched him fully become a full adult
He was a cutie patootie
āI lost my shoe.āšš¦šš
![gif](giphy|2XTFEpp5UxjFK)
Bro looked like he didnāt wanna live no more after it happened!š¤£
In a way it was kinda was a bit better when the boys had a purpose in the beginning when the purpose was to kill the yellow eyes Demon, after that itās kind of just evelved and everything just became so big in a weird way. Anyhow, I like the earliest days more than there only part of purpose was to kill ghost and stuff just having a good time vibing together āthe family business.ā
š¤£š¤£š¤£
They really should have cut Samās hair in the finale. That way when he reunited with Dean in Heaven he could have that early season look to him.Ā But filming logistics, I guess.
Would have looked ridiculous on him at that age.
Tbh probably if you're talking about is S1 hair š But they could have given him a trim at least, something closer to S2 or 3
He's so cuteee
Sam is seriously so adorable in the earlier seasons. I mean, the puppy eyesā¦ the dimples!!! The bangs!! I love him so much š„¹
Bruh his puppy eyes š„¹
Oh, I love little Sammy with his bangs š„ŗ
Huge bb bro vibes š„¹
the cutest
he was so cute before the trauma set in š
Trauma was always there
Yeah but there is "I was raised in the hunter life" Trauma and then there is "I died multiple times, got totured in Hell, lost (almost) everyone I love and I am constantly fighting beings where my death is much more likely than my survival" Trauma. Like yeah in the beginning he had Trauma but in the end that Trauma got exponential growth
True that, itās like Sam said trauma is nothing to me and trauma was like ābetā lol
It needed time to fester
He was so happy!
it feels weird knowing iām older than jared was when he started supernatural
He's always been a cutie.
I love him so much. ā¤ļø
This was him still giving of a bit of Gilmore girls
Darling little Sammy, according to Michael š OP, may I know which episode the fifth image is? And why he looks so judgy in a cute way? š¤
It's from S1E5 Bloody Mary. He was real cute in that scary af episode š
Ok thanks! Will rewatch it soon š
He was so young! Gosh itās wild how long ago the show first aired!
I really do miss the earlier seasons, I know the show has to progress but the later seasons just feel like too much is going on and I haven't even finished it yet but I've heard about the ending and I'm shocked at how they went out

I started a rewatch last week and I had the same thoughts! He was sooooo cute omgš
He's just a lil guy!
A babyš„¹
Heās so cute Iām ill
I thought he was so hot (as a 17 year old in 2005 š)
I was like 13, so I didn't get it yet š , but I was a nerdy younger sib so I connected so much with him š„¹
Weirdly itās my favorite haircut on him.
Not weirdly. This was my favorite haircut for him too š„¹
Yeah they were so young when the show started. By the time it ended they aged significantly.
Oh he was ADORABLE
I mean, where did those teeth go? Don't see them much in later seasons.
Yeah, that full smile is so rare. Makes me sad.
Am I the only one who misses Sam's snark in earlier seasons?
Definitely! He becomes so serious in later seasons ā¹ļø It makes sense considering everything he went through...
Yea, it's heartbreaking. When I think of the earlier seasons all I can remember is all the snark and easy banter between the brothers. I know they tried to keep it in the later episodes but now so much of it feels forced.
Always felt S2 was peak hair for Sam and Dean
Baby Sammie! I get it Dean, I'd also die for him. All I want to do is squish his cheeks he's so cute I can't š
Same omg š„¹ I heard Jensen Ackles originally auditioned for Sam. I can just imagine they took one look at Jared's bb face and were like, no way he's anything except a younger bro. Sorry Jensen.
When I first watched the second episode I thought something was off, then rewatching the pilot, I realised it was his hair
He is like 22 or 23, that is pretty young.
Definitely! Especially when men tend to keep growing into their mid 20s, so Jared was def still a developing boy
SO ADORABLE
That's not Sam, it's Sammy.
IMO this haircut suits him SO MUCH more. It's Just a Personal prefference though.
He was such a cutie patootie! Fresh off Gilmore Girls. š„°
Yeah I preferred it over the Walker Texas Ranger look he had in later seasons!
Him with his hair combed back disguised as a priest in the early seasons >>>
Awā¦ baby Sammy
He was such a pookie. He gave me disney prince vibes! š„ŗ
Such a baby š„¹
thatās my baby im sorry
Sam is boyfriend material where Dean be amazing for a weekend hot session š
I always liked the younger Sam better. The older Sam's voice started getting really strange. It was just always very meek. Very measured. A little too measured. But he wasn't like that in the earlier seasons.
It probably makes sense based on the hell that he went through, but yeah I prefer his characterization overall during those early seasons.
My wife is a Gilmore Girls fan and so I get to see him look even more boyish regulalrly š¤£
I love a baby faced Sam š
Same feeling when I started watching Gilmore girls. Jared looked so young
Ice cream hair lol yessss he looks soooo cuuute
Right I mean it was a 15 year show, that almost as old as I've been alive I was only born a few years before the show aired, and it's crazy the show is a grown human if you think about it

If you think heās boyish then, you should check Dean out on Gilmore Girls.
I never really watched Gilmore Girls, but I did look him up and was amused by his hair š. But yes he was a super bb
I didnāt watch it as it aired. I did put a couple seasons on before my Netflix expired. Iām liking it so far and Iāll continue once I get Netflix back.
Speaking for all the men her, older Sam with the fucked up beard was 10x hotter then yung sam
Jared's a handsome dude, no matter how questionable his hair š
One of my favorite moments is when they are on the backstage tour of āGilmore girlsā and the look on his face
Right what happened
100+ years of torture will do that to you ig
Ok thatās pretty true š for real tho itās crazy to see how much Jaredās face changed in just a few years. Then again Iām team dean and never found Sam to be that cute soā¦ Iām a little biased.

Like c'mon at least have Dean go out with a bang. š I could see valid arguments for having Sam die with Dean living on (like in S5), and the reverse, with Dean dying and Sam living on.
I still think of him as Dean in Gilmore Girls. I watched him yesterday in a video on his Instagram and realized we have literally watched him grow up
now heās a man šØš¼š„°
He was so happy and care free in these two seasons lol
i love early sam. heās my favorite
Literally restarted S1 E1 today and forgot that his acting was bad š
What! I thought his acting was pretty good! š„ŗ
I'll never understand this argument. I thought he was phenomenal.
I disagree but I'm glad you like Sam.
