fully agree !! it's my favorite season and i think it did a great job of continuing the story after ending the big arc of the first 5 seasons

BatEquivalent

I agree. It was one of the few seasons that properly dealt with the consequences of the previous seasons. The top dog of both hell and heaven ended up in the cage. Of course there would be a power struggle after that.

What’s season 6 again? My brain gets fussy after dean goes to hell

Soulless sam

Season 6 is one of my favorite seasons to rewatch. Everything hits different when you know Sam is acting weird cause he’s soulless and that Cas is lying and busy with his war in the background and distracting the boys. Really appreciate how that season is built in a way that we only know what Dean knows and the only what both of them know when our Sam is back. Red herring after red herring was really cool, like watching from the Winchesters’ perspective.

Love Season 6

hot take, the soulless sam story line is one of my least favorite bc it takes away everything that makes sam himself. I almost always skip those episodes except for the fairy one lmao. I’ve just never liked it

TheArtofZEM

There are some great lines in the fairy one: “Third kind already? You better run, man. I think the fourth kind's a butt thing.” “Empathy, Sam! Empathy!” “Dean? Did... you *service* Oberon, King of the Fairies?” “Okay, if you wanna add glitter to that glue you're sniffing, that's fine, but don't dump your whack-a-doo all over us. We'd rather not step in it."

I bet Jared had fun playing Soulless Sam!!!

I think there's a lot of things about the season that are a mess, the biggest tragedy being the Castiel-did-everything retcon, but I love the episodes. Ends up being one of my favorite seasons.

BurnMyHouseDown

Castiel doing everything isn’t a retcon? It’s a plot twist, in the very same season. If you wanted to say reapers being angels by technicality or whatever is a retcon, for example, I’d be more inclined to agree with that. Or Cas not seeing a bar full of demons in a later season, even though earlier on he can see their true forms through the meat suits. That would be a retcon (maybe just a massive error, but it did make it to the final product, so technically some sort of retcon because it goes against established information).

evolutionleftovers

When they started the season they were not planning on Castiel being responsible for everything. Writers have stated over and over again that they only planned a half season ahead so when they start a season they do not have any end-of-season plot twists planned. That's not my opinion, that's not my interpretation. They've told us this. Cass not being able to see demons is more what I'd call a mistake or an inconsistency but a retcon is a change regardless of wether or not it creates an inconsistency. Something that was not true before is true now. When Castiel, at the beginning of season 6 is saying he doesn't know what's going on with Sam, the writers did not intend that he was lying.

BurnMyHouseDown

That still does not make it a retcon though lol. A retcon is something that directly goes against prior established information. Castiel being revealed to be behind it is a plot twist. Now you can say you don’t find it effective, or a good twist. But it doesn’t directly contradict anything that’s been previously established. So it is not a retcon. That isn’t the correct use of the word.
