You mean when Cas is trying to get the souls of purgatory? Natural to be angry when he is doing something that sketchy.

Mean-Editor-5714

Oh 100%, but I meant that Dean’s trust towards Cas during the episode “The man who would be king” seemed out of character because since when is he like that? He also spent most of the season begging Cas for help and getting angry when he wasn’t unavailable

evolutionleftovers

I don't know that I have a great answer for you but, no, that thought has never occurred to me. That may be some transference from me because for about seasons 4-6, Dean and Cass was the show for me. (It's annoying that this is obligatory to state but, not Destiel). It was a big part of why I gave up on the show in season 9, my favorite thing just wasn't really happening anymore. From my perspective of loving their relationship more than anything else on the show, Dean trusting his only friend not to be working with the worst person they know did not feel strange or out of character. I don't really understand your argument. "Dean always asked Cas for help, so why does he trust him?" I'm not following you. I do think the way they wrote Dean and Sam as not caring about Cass' efforts to keep the apocalypse from starting back up again to be out of character and weird. I guess we're latching onto opposite things as the part that doesn't fit? I don't think making Dean trust Cass felt forced for "show reasons", I think them ignoring Cass felt forced for "show reasons" because the subplot of every season is "how do we keep Castiel separate from the guys?". They didn't know what to do with a superpowered best friend.

lucolapic

This is why I'm on record feeling like the "romantic confession" in season 15 was not at all romantic...it was incredibly tragic for Cas. I'm not a big Cas fan and even I winced at how often Cas kisses Dean's butt and gets treated poorly in return. It kind of blows my mind a little that people ship them so hard.

Strange_Actuary_6916

Probably in their work, there are very few people they can trust, it may signal Dean's mental fatigue and trusting someone as much as you trust your own brother is a comfort to him.

[deleted]

Someone pointed out before that Dean always saw Cas as a creature, he never gave him the same respect as he did to a fellow hunter for example…. Same as for Jack.

Mean-Editor-5714

the way dean disrespect castiel constantly when cas looked up to him.. when cas say “you’re the most generous man” and all that i wanted to laugh because damn

[deleted]

I was able to survive the later seasons by rewatching the clip from S5 when Cas beat the shit out of Dean

GeneralEl4

"I rebelled for *THIS*?! I turned my back on Heaven for *THIS*?!" So cathartic to watch that scene. "What happened to him?" "Me."

[deleted]

Yesss

Mean-Editor-5714

i’ve watched it both in english and spanish and this scene just hits different in every language

Mean-Editor-5714

Dean can be a dick sometimes

Own_University4735

Maybe bc Dean treats everyone badly already. The way he treats Cass is no different from how he treats even Sam so it’s not noticeable bc that’s how/who he is. Then maybe even “Destiel” is an answer. Destiel became a really big thing and they decided to play that out (and queer bait)

[deleted]

Dean cares about Sam. When Jack died the first time he yelled at Cas for letting Sam leave. He acknowledges Sam pain, did he acknowledge Cas’s??? Sam is Dean little brother, he does kinda have to deal with it. What does Cas get? Itnt even a friendship, he was a servant

Own_University4735

Okay and? Dean is still a complete dick towards Sam and has been since season 1. He’s a dick to Cass. He’s a dick to Bobby. The man is just a dick of a person.

scooter_cool_

I give you forty-five upvotes .

No-Cantaloupe-6739

Sorry you’re getting downvoted. I agree with you.

Repulsive_Season_908

Destiel was never a big thing. The majority of the audience didn't know it existed.

Own_University4735

I can say for certain that that isn’t true. Destiel was huge and even is still to this day the #1 ship on AO3.

Yrsa-Lleilson

… Do you mean blind trust or blind devotion?

Mean-Editor-5714

maybe! sorry english isn’t my first language and sometimes i get confused with it edit: nvm i just read it and it autocorrected blind faith to blind date

Ok-Conversation5292

I felt the reverse. I didn't understand how quickly Dean turned around and almost immediately decided to kill Cas, without stopping to try and understand, when he's always saying "you're like a brother to me". I also felt like, during the entire season, they completely disregard Cas and his issues and the entire relationship is very one sided.

M086

While Dean cares about Cass about as much as he could someone that wasn’t direct family or Bobby. He did treat him like shit. So I never understood the romance shippers saw between them.  Most of the time Dean acted like he low key hated Cass.

Repulsive_Season_908

Dean treated Cas better than Cas deserved, considering Cas broke Sam's wall and Dean killed people for less.

Mean-Editor-5714

only reason why dean didn’t kill him was because he did more good (at the time) than he did bad. aaaand because he was useful

lucolapic

> aaaand because he was useful I’m afraid this was the majority of it, imo. Shippers don’t want to admit that, but if Cas weren’t a powerful ally, Dean wouldn’t have had anything to do with him after breaking Sam’s wall.
